Pretty good job! I really liked the art style and the music. Some of the animations maybe improved and other than that that is a fine platformer.

svr-audio 2017-08-01 00:41

I felt like I was playing a SNES game, loved the art. the best part of the game, the atmosphere is awesome, and the gameplay is fun. btw I played the html version and it was not buggy at all, it runs well here on the html version.

xavierseal 2017-08-01 00:44

The art is dank. Is there any way to recharge myself? It's so easy to run out of power.

besslaaneshi 2017-08-01 00:51

very nice art and sound. I like it. But... attack on space is bad, because u will die faster. and can i complete it? i have no damage taken, run fast. never you space bar and always die on activating 4rd generator :(

will-walters 2017-08-01 00:52

The pixel art on this is really good, and I really like the idea. I wish the running wasn't so slidy - it takes forever to turn around, which usually left me running into every enemy. Also, is it even possible to win? I think you may lose power too fast to actually beat it.

superpokeunicorn 2017-08-01 00:56

This game has great visuals. The pixel art is very detailed and the color pallet is atmospheric, setting a dark and gloomy tone. I also really like the music. The gameplay was simple and a bit unpolished, but I like the tension between attacking and self preservation, with each attack bringing you closer and closer to the grave. That tension turns what is otherwise mundane gameplay into something more engaging. Overall, I enjoyed my time with this game. Good job!

superpokeunicorn 2017-08-01 00:57

(Also, the Price is Right failure horns were a nice touch)

aleal-dev 2017-08-01 01:00

I really love the pixel art, but after a few dozens of trys... i have the feeling that you can only beat the game with a perfect run, ant it is a bit unfair :(

Great job anyways!! ^^

tinfoilboy 2017-08-01 01:11

Just finished a run through of this game, and it was super tough! I dug the art and the sound a lot, and I laughed at a few parts (the DLC joke made me laugh out loud, literally). I also enjoyed the concept and felt that you made it fit the theme super well. Though, the game, as I said is hard. I feel that, with that sole attack that you do, it can instantly kill you, to the point where I mainly would jump over enemies as opposed to hitting them. I feel like a less power hungry attack would definitely help a bit (at the very least stagger the enemy).

Overall though, this was a super solid game! Continue working on this!

boboman 2017-08-01 01:21

Nice work! The game felt very polished and the music was a perfect choice. The story was cool and had me interested! The electricity mechanics were intuitive, yet simple while the level design and monster AI still added in challenge. Being nit picky about the control scheme here but I hate when UPARROW or W is jump. Otherwise once I got over the controls (ended up using arrows and W,E) I had fun and I HAD to play it until I beat it!

I really enjoyed your level design. If this was mostly unintentional kudos for the natural talent ---

I like how the beginning of the level introduces the player to movement and jumping without pressure from dying with the platform area. As you charge (pun intended) into the level, the generator mechanic is immediately apparent, followed by the first area with scaffolding platforms and enemies blocking you, and the kite. I even knew the kite intuitively was an interactable because, its all about electricity - power running out - you're charging the world back up and the whole kite and key ben franklin bit right? That's some damned fine gameplay right there. The "Buy the DLC to fight me" guy was a nice touch of humor, but the end was a little lackluster with the typos pulling away from the overall polished feel.

Nice!

eretzoum 2017-08-01 09:53

@xavierseal, @besslaaneshi, @will-walters, you recharge by pressing use on the kites!

deadlyalive 2017-08-01 10:03

@boboman, thank you so much for the detailed feedback! The typos in the end are just a reference to the Ghostbusters NES game 😄

ganny 2017-08-01 10:16

Wow great pixal art. Need to put in some more tries tough becouse I'm still struggeling with the game (is a bit hard for me). Enjoying it still though Thanks!

stracker 2017-08-01 21:29

Very nice looking with a bit flawed gameplay, the character feels slippery and it makes navigating kind of frustrating.

connor-hagan 2017-08-01 21:43

I liked the art style a lot, and definitely liked the gameplay. The character controls really nicely and responsively. Also, when's the DLC coming ;).

Two recommendations. The spacebar attack isn't totally clear what it's range or hitbox is. Also, the perspective on the platforms looks really nice but it's a little bit hard to tell where the platforms edge is. I found myself often jumping way too early because of this until I got the hang of the perspective. I ended up beating it in like 6-7 tries but wishing there was more!

bocodillo 2017-08-02 01:45

Best victory text in a game jam yet! Really good aesthetics, nice smooth animations & good music/sound effects. Gameplay is pretty good, although the controls are a little floaty and the movement feels like an ice level. That said I had fun and enjoyed the game to the end!

angry-squirrels 2017-08-02 09:59

Good art, the gameplay is a bit tricky with the player's slides.

It would be nice to add an element that indicates you can reload energy when you pass over the kites.

Nice entry overall

shaolin-dave 2017-08-02 15:21

I noticed you used a stock sound effect for "FAIL" deaths (not sure about other sounds). You should remove premade sounds/music or opt out of audio voting.

These are among the best visuals I've seen in an LD game, great pixel art.

carsen-d 2017-08-02 19:20

Very cool! The art is very nice, and the gameplay is pretty cool if not quite challenging with having to manage your energy for everything. It does force you to go as quick as possible to get to the next kite though! Nice level design too, the difficulty ramps up pretty quickly but it doesn't feel overwhelming at all. Great job!

battle-buddy 2017-08-02 20:13

It took about 10 tries for me to realize you basically want to avoid all enemies, rather than attack any single one. Beat it once I learned the kites give energy back. Totally missed that feature! I felt that the randomness of the enemy spawns acted as artificial difficulty: some arrangements were trivial to get past while others were completely impossible.

Overall, the art style, music, and theme really played together. I could see this being a classic SNES game back in the day.

ganbaregameskyle 2017-08-02 23:53

Nice sprite art even if they could use some more frames. The gameplay on the other hand...

mike-cullingham 2017-08-03 19:09

Cool art and love the music. I think the basic premise almost requires multiple playthroughs because you need to know where the kites and enemies are to choose when to jump and when to discharge. Nice job for a ludum dare game.

grandtheftmarmot 2017-08-03 22:53

Amazing art! Wow!

christina-antoinette-neofotistou 2017-08-07 10:54

excellent music and fun brawling! The kites were a cool idea!

mrerdalural 2017-08-10 13:13

Artwork is very nice! You should work more on controls though. Its impossible to jump over enemies once you lose your momentum. I really enjoyed playing the game thanks for making it!

blk-dragon 2017-08-10 14:32

Nicely dystopian art. Player movement has waaay to much inertia, makes platforming (unnecessaryly) hard.

dragojt 2017-08-10 15:15

Nice game. It needs so many tries to beat it, but it's enjoyable. There's not enough power to fail a bit :( Nice graphics but some sounds do not work with the game theme. Anyways, good job :)

shess 2017-08-10 18:01

Fun and stylish, definitely challenging, and maybe a part of it is due to controls. But the art and music made up for it (yeah, I know I shouldn't probably rate the music, but dear god was it nice!)

Stalker/Lovecraftian monster design is what sold the game for me, personally.

shiitman 2017-08-10 20:02

Great game, concept, graphics, gameplay, everything is on top level.

klowner 2017-08-10 21:01

Nice! I like the color choices, very apocalyptic and dirty feeling. Creative story. My only complaint is that the movement feels a little swimmy to me, but overall it's a fun little platformer.

battlecoder 2017-08-10 23:30

Loved it! It's really challenging and fun. Good graphics, mood, music and concept.

I kinda missed a dedicated Jump button though. Jumping with "up" feels weird when you are not using a gamepad. The bit of randomness in enemy placement/movement sometimes created pretty unfair scenarios where (for instance) two enemies would be in the way when normally there's only one, making me use two attacks in a row, which depleted my energy entirely, so I think there's room for improvement there as well.

Overall a pretty solid entry, and in fact, I'm pretty sure this is the game I've given the highest scores in basically every category so far. Kudos for such a great job!

schizoid2k 2017-08-11 00:53

Once I read you comment on what to do with the kites, I replayed the game and I loved it. I kept running out of fuel and didn't see a way to energize at first

Music, sounds, and graphics were very nice. Deciding whether to fight or avoid is clever too.

Nice job!

kiirohanabi 2017-08-11 20:07

A great game here! The graphics are really good and the audio fits well. The story is easy to get and give an understandable goal.

The fail and DLC jokes worked for me haha :D

The only things I would say is that the game was a bit rough with the transitions between start screen, game and end (the music too), and that if you gave something special to the kite (like a glowing outline, a color that is different from the rest, or just subtle indications that thunder could interact with it), players wouldn't have to read the line about it here and could finish the game by themselves.

Still a good experience overall!

tjakka5 2017-08-12 12:21

The art looks really nice and the music complements the game well too.

I have an issue with the controls however, they are rather floaty and it's hard changing directions.

With the edges being somewhat 2.5D it's taking a guess about where the actual end of the hitbox is.

The enemies can also combo you into the air, only happened once to me though.

The game doesn't leave much room for mistakes, you just gotta redo the level. Which works because it is rather short.

Recharging with flying kites is a pretty cool idea in my opinion.

Overall i must say the art outshines the gameplay here

daragongames 2017-08-14 15:09

This game looks good and is very creative, but some Gameplay elements made no sense according to the story: Why does the player die once he runs out of Power? Why does he lose Power when he is hit? Also Interactions and energy attacks made did reset the speed, which you also gain to slowly so that if you are hit by an enemy you have to attack them, which does punish the player twice. Some Checkpoints would have been nice as well. Overall a good Game with an very innovative concept.

jason200101 2017-08-16 22:56

Great game! The graphics look nice, the music is great, the idea is also great and the game feels both solid and completed! No negative feedback to give! Well done!

2017-11-16 01:27

Challenging game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXq5UkQ9iWI
