| Apr 24 00:39:06 | PlatSCII | ♥ 3 | Really precise level design, more intuitive controls than originally expected, and I had a blast with the overall music/sound design. I wouldn't mind a shorter respawn time, and the need to press "+" to input simultaneous commands tends to "break the flow", but really nice work overall ! | |
| Apr 24 00:49:41 | 10m 35s | World of WarPETS - LD41 | ♥ 1 | A funny take on real-time skirmishes, but there doesn't seem to be any interaction at the moment (health bars don't move ?) The graphics and the particle effectare are quite great though, and kept me playing for a few minutes even though I haven't had much of an impact on the adversary. To sum up, a silly, beautiful shell that I would really want to see filled with actual gameplay. |
| Apr 24 00:57:55 | 8m 14s | Idle Racing | ♥ 3 | After the 10 deconcerting first seconds, I really enjoyed your game. The upgrade system is a great idea, and the simple time attack mode is efficient enough to keep one playing for minutes. I would just advise to make the initial quantities of oil/tires/... a bit bigger, so that one doesn't see his playthrough ruined by a bad start. |
| Apr 24 01:17:09 | 19m 14s | A Relaxing Time At The Arcade | ♥ 2 | I started the game more or less unaware of the horrific twist, and the end of the first minigame combined with the great sound design and the expanding environement prevented my fearful self from going very far. A great execution of a great idea ! |
| Apr 24 01:25:10 | 8m 01s | Rhythm Command | ♥ 2 | Nice mix between a "rhythm" game (grabbing the aidpacks ?) and a traditional shoot them up. However, some heavy balancing seems needed. Kudos for the online leaderboard, a great addition to a pure socring game ! |
| Apr 24 01:44:43 | 19m 33s | GUNSLNGR5000 | ♥ 1 | The card-based ability system is really well handled and has some incredibled potential ,although it was sometimes a bit difficult to keep an eye on both moving an enemies and the deck. The death system (reshuffle + death enemies) is a nice touch. Maybe try to make the player start with less cards (or even less cards than given at the beginning, if it was already the case), so that one can get a feeling with this nice system before starting the hard stuff. |
| Apr 24 01:54:06 | 9m 23s | Dance Masters of the Universe | ♥ 1 | Trying desperately to survive against the swarming monsters was pretty fun, the 3 abilities allow for some nice gameplay ! Kudos for the protagonist (these moves !) and the theme, I had a smile on my lips during the whole playthrough. The game would hugely benefit from mouse-based controls though. |
| Apr 24 02:18:30 | 24m 24s | Fintastic Escape | ♥ 1 | Beautiful low poly art and clean soundtrack ! The fishing system that helps you to progress through the enigmas is a lot of fun ! It must have taken some heavy design work to manage to fit several giant aquariums in a closed room and still make it look natural... |
| Apr 24 02:31:25 | 12m 55s | Beat Boxer | ♥ 2 | Great graphics (loved the details on the crowd !), and the gameplay was more balanced that what I would expect from a rhythm game developed in 72h, with a nice difficulty curve (and some sweet error tolerance in the input) and a game that's actually possible to finish. Nice work ! |
| Apr 24 02:39:40 | 8m 15s | Shump Racing | ♥ 2 | Nice concept, good music and nice-homemade graphics. I think he game would feel a bit more intuitive if we could control the direction with the mouse (but also much less challenging...), and if there were more indicators (when do the ennemies die ? when do I die ? so many existential questions...) |
| Apr 24 23:07:34 | 20h 27m | Bad Beat | ♥ 1 | Great idea, now that's a mix of genres I hadn't seen coming ! The gameplay was fun, although I wish a global score meter was next to the combo meter. A little screen shake for each note played would also have added some juice, but all in all, nice work ! |
| Apr 24 23:13:37 | 6m 03s | Groove Chase | ♥ 1 | Great idea, well executed ! I absolutely loved the music, which made the end of each playthrough kind of epic. The difficulty curve is a bit off and the game would have benefited from a little juice (screenshake when a note is played, ...), but great game overall ! |
| Apr 24 23:24:08 | 10m 31s | Love and Hate in Hell Café | ♥ 1 | That's a really neat prototype of what could become a great game ! The gameplay is addictive and flows naturally (kudos for the all-mouse gameplay), the graphics are crisp (and your whistling is okay !). Some balancing issues remain, as the game gets hard really fast (it might help to better reward "not-perfect-but-not-bad" couples). Great job ! |
| Apr 24 23:37:01 | 12m 53s | PataPata (Survival Rhythm) | ♥ 2 | Let's that out of the way : your pixel art is straight up amazing ! On the gameplay standpoint, it's enjoyable to get a feel of the beat and advance through the island, even though the combinations are not that easy to remember and use for a non-qwerty user (alt-tab to the game page sure is trivial, but it kinda break the flow that you carefully implemented). Once you get through that little hurdle, great game ! |
| Apr 24 23:48:54 | 11m 53s | Flying over Farm | ♥ 0 | The gameplay loop is a really nice twist on the Harvest Moon formula, making it more fast and intense ! However, the shmup part is frankly hard, the laser being quite small and the ship hard to maneuver on a keyboard. Nonetheless, the "growing stuff" part is great, and is as satisfying as one expects a Harvest Moon-y game to be ! Some music might have helped, but 72h remains extremely short... Good job ! |
| Apr 25 00:08:25 | 19m 31s | Trivia Kart! | ♥ 1 | Great game ! I had a lot of fun, even though I did not have an eventual "Player 2" at hand, which would have made the game infinitely funnier than it already is. The gameplay loop is refreshing (are you guys perchance Danganronpa fans ?), the graphics do the job and the music puts you well in that trivia mood. My only complaint would be about the driving, with a rotations that tend to accelerate brutally, making the many turns of the game sometimes difficult to apprehand. All in all, great job ! |
| Apr 25 00:22:51 | 14m 26s | Judgement Day: The Board Game | ♥ 2 | I love narrative game, and yours had me on the edge on my seat ! The writing definitely kept me going forward.. The gameplay was well-executed, I don't know if this was intentional but I really enjoyed the feeling of "trying to grab whatever was near your hands to stop the demon before he hurts you". You even made the game somewhat accessible, so great job ! My only remarks would be regarding the font and the lack of sound, but that might be more related to the time limit than to design choices. |
| Apr 25 00:28:46 | 5m 55s | Driving simulator | ♥ 0 | You managed to craft an okay 2D driving scheme in 15 minutes, which is still something ! And there's some sensible stuff to be said about lack of content in current racing games... Good luck for the next jam ! |
| Apr 25 00:38:23 | 9m 37s | 5ive 4 me, thr3e 2 u !1 - a turn-based platformer! | ♥ 0 | The main mechanic works well and is fun, turning your platformer into something more akin to a puzzle-game. Seeing a first seemingly unbeatable enemy being tricked by the time step sure is funny ! The graphics as well as the audio do their job, but I would recommend shorter levels (more like a succession of one-screen puzzles), as the turn based system makes it frustrating to have to start over. Overall, great job ! |
| Apr 25 01:00:18 | 21m 55s | Modern Fairway 4: Spec-Ops in the Rough | ♥ 2 | A brilliant idea, quite well executed. Pushing the ball through this huge green space is sometimes a bit tiring, especially since your sprint is limited (through I once found myself running after the ball hoping for my sprint to come back in order to reach it and fire the decisive round, so the limited sprit has its perks too, I guess). On the aesthetic standpoint, I had a grin thoughout both my playtrhoughs, the music choice being excellent and the level design being ridiculously upsetting (in a good way ! the ball just never stops). The menu might however be a little broken ("Misson start", broken cursor), but all in all, great game ! |
| Apr 25 01:11:22 | 11m 04s | Tower Knight - Our First Game Jam! | ♥ 2 | This gameplay loop is really well executed(satisfying firing sound, noice combination of having to place the tower and move around the zombies) ! The difficulty curve might be a little off, but that's normal in a game jam. Aside from the unreadable UI (on my navigator) and the lack of an indicator that you are (or not) in build mode, really nice work ! |
| Apr 25 01:19:11 | 7m 49s | Tennis Defense | ♥ 0 | Great idea, tennis might indeed be a sport where there is a form of survival (holding against an attacking adversary), so expanding on the matter by adding zombies is a great idea ! The mechanic est simple enough and the game is enjoyable, even if the aiming system is a little strange (positioning your racket accordingly isn't really intuitive), but kudos for the sound design ! (Was that an apple ?) |
| Apr 25 01:32:36 | 13m 25s | Colossal Cat Adventure: Maze of the Elder Gods: Lazer Turret's Revenge Part 2... | ♥ 0 | Great idea ! The introduction to the mechanics in the first few levels is very well done ! The retro design works well (I dig the simple yet effective design of the cat !), and the audio does its job. I wonder if the fact that having trouble to recover after being stuck in a corner slightly too from a keycard (and thus having to go back far enough to process both the walking command and the grabbing command) is intentional. If it is, then all the power to you, this adds some challenge in the early levels. If it isn't, maybe giving the player the ability to plan his moves by allowing him to enter two commands at one would makes his early playthrough easier. All in all, great game ! |
| Apr 25 01:42:26 | 9m 50s | PLYDRIDIE - Multitasking Racing Flappy Game | ♥ 3 | What a beautiful game ! The interior of the car, the japanese town, these were much more detailed that what I expected to find in a game jam entry ! The car handles very well too, which is great given the amount of multitasking needed to not immediately die in both the driving game and flappy bird. Overall, a very solid entry with a very original premise and a great execution. Maybe the addition of a simple soundtrack could have completed the great graphics, and I wish the driving timer was longer (but I guess that not everything is doable in 72h...) |
| Apr 25 13:50:24 | 12h 07m | Dirty Race | ♥ 1 | There some really interesting puzzles in there; as well as really clean 3D graphics the like of which you do not often see during a game jam. Maybe the game would have benefitted from a camera located a bit higher to help the player apprehend the distances. Props for the sound, certainely handmade but works well as a loop ! |
| Apr 25 14:02:51 | 12m 27s | Suit 'em Up | ♥ 1 | The animations are awesome, and the drawings are great (some serious creativity regarding the clothes out there !), and I believe they would be advantageously completed by some stupidly epic soundtrack. Regarding the gameplay, the idea is great and the whole thing is well executed, I just wish there was a bit more "juice" after the impacts (screenshake, ...) Nice work overall ! |
| Apr 25 14:15:45 | 12m 54s | The Iron Front | ♥ 0 | Cool game, the various actions are doable with simple and easy to remember commands (which would beneifit from being case-insensitive), and the writing is enjoyable. However, during my whole playthrough, the ennemies never moved and inch, and past a certain time (after having input a location where I had no troops), the move command stopped working. I would be interested in playing this game after a potential AI rework so let me know ! |
| Apr 25 14:26:42 | 10m 57s | Dachshund League | ♥ 3 | Even though I didn't have a friend to give me a hand, I really enjoyed what I saw from a game that could become tons of fun in multiplayer. The graphics are neat (with a more expressive audience than in so many sports games !), the audio does its job, the gameplay has many subtleties (rocket jump, angle of the ball, ...). Maybe the animations felt a bit too long/detailed at times, but great job overall ! |
| Apr 25 14:41:02 | 14m 20s | Seven Ate Nine | ♥ 1 | Really great game ! I was immediately drawn in by the art, and the sound design definitely adds a lot to the whole experience. The tutorial is really well made, and explains immediately the simple yet fun mechanic. One possible upgrade would be to add powerups and to add the ability for other numbers to get feral, but these would only be the cherry on the top of an already delicious cake made in only 48h ! |
| Apr 25 15:00:09 | 19m 07s | Tetris of the Colossus | ♥ 2 | On an aesthetical standpoint, I feel like you totally grasped what made both games so enjoyable (the first slow, yet gradually intense rhtymic gameplay of tetris (here it gets trickier the higher you go) and the atmospheric melancholy of Shadow of The Colossus. The art as well as the audio are top-notch (are these the colossus' noises ?) , and the decision to make the blocks as well as the player fall in a "discrete" way is genius, truly merging both atmospheres in what becomes a unique game. Gameplay-side, I really enjoyed my playthrough, but the game would benefit from a short tutorial or at least some early guidance (72h is dreadly short to craft an introduction as brilliant as the one in Shadow of the Colossus). All in all, excellent game ! |
| Apr 25 15:14:48 | 14m 39s | Bari - The Fisher Plane | ♥ 1 | What a beautiful game ! This is by far the most beautiful water I've seen in a LD game ! I also really enjoyed the sound design and the quiet atmosphere, even if I feel like a few guitar chords here and there could add a lot to the mood. Gameplay-wise, the arcade flight works well, but I was soon confused by the unability to pliot the plane with the mouse. The fish are a bit too fast and thus a little hard to catch for a plane that sometimes behaves strangely, but it did not prevent me from enjoying this relaxing experience. |
| Apr 25 15:24:33 | 9m 45s | CARED | ♥ 3 | When I saw a Bandcamp link on your submission, I immediately had a good feeling, and man my guts were right ! From the amazing pixel art to the soundtrack and sound effects, this is an aesthetical gem, the likes of which you do not often see in a game jam ! Gameplay-wise, I also had a blast, with the game being better balanced than one might expect, and the fighting actually feeling great (I fell in love with the feel of the axe !). A really really great take on classical metroidvanias ! Are you guys perchance fans of pandora's tower ? |
| Apr 25 15:31:28 | 6m 55s | aegisCMD | ♥ 1 | Mixing a classical shoot'em up with a tower defense is a great idea ! However, the difficulty curve is totally off here - unless I messed some gameplay elements, it is nigh-impossible to survive the three fist missiles ! If you have any idea of what I could've missed of if you decide to tone down the difficulty down, let me know, I would be glad to play the game again ! On an aesthetical standpoint, I dig the design of the building and the missiles, and the music was really enjoyable too, especially that melody shift when the fight strats ! Overall, nice work. |
| Apr 25 15:45:03 | 13m 35s | Think Hockey | ♥ 0 | Great idea, and good execution. The game indeed requires a bit more balancing, with the puck changing team a little too often to make the match as exciting as it could be. The sound and the graphics do the job, and the UI is quite clear. Maybe make the retrieving of the stamina a bit shorter to that the player has more possibilities during the whole match. And I personally found the AI acceptable for a 48h-developed game ! |
| Apr 25 15:52:49 | 7m 46s | Dream World | ♥ 2 | This is a nice take on both roguelikes and platformers ! The first thing I did when I started my playthrough was, obviously, falling down, and you can imagined how surprised I was to see a procedurally generated level come to my feet gain ! The jumping might feel a bit stiff, although I guess it adds the necessary challenge. On an aesthetical standpoint, I really loved the music and the minimalist graphics, although I felt like not having the same pixel size for the sun, the clouds and the platforms made the whole thing a little artificial. I'm nitpicking though, on what is otherwise a really good game ! |
| Apr 25 16:02:55 | 10m 06s | POLITICS VS GAMES LOL | ♥ 1 | Aside from the balancing curve that's sometimes a bit off, I really enjoyed my playthough ! Your game has all the juice one expects to find in an isometric shooter, and the leveling/game desing linked with the political commentary is awesome addition to an otherwise classical formula. The graphics do their job, and the audio is top-notch ! Thanks for that great game ! PS : I first wanted to write "This is not a real review", but hey, my fault for being reliant on known UI's ! |
| Apr 25 16:08:53 | 5m 58s | Endless shooter | ♥ 0 | Great game ! Firing feels good and the combination of having to shoot the bad guys while doging the planes sure is thrilling and immediately engaging. Like the previous comments, I did not really see the link with the theme, but aside from that, you got yourself a nice lettle game ! On the aesthetical standpoint, the art is functional and the music works well as a loop (kudos for the firing sounds). All in all, good job ! |
| Apr 25 16:17:04 | 8m 11s | Turbo Viking | ♥ 1 | Nicely done ! The random levels are coherent (and fit the clock !) and the difficulty curve is okay, while the various ennemies provide a nice variety of challenges. I just felt like the car was quite hard to control (maybe having it rotate with the mouse would have made the game easier ?). On the other hand, the graphics are clean, and the music does its job. Overall, nice work ! |
| Apr 25 16:25:44 | 8m 40s | Ping Bang Pong | ♥ 1 | What a great idea ! I started my first playthrough as if I was in an action game, only to understand that it was all a matter of patience and precision. Aiming works well, even if I would suggest to make it more obvious when the ball is going to it the enemy (here it sometimes take time adjusting the shots despite the helper crossing the enemy). Props for your level design too ! On the other hand, the music is great, and the graphics are functional (nice animations !). The noice of ping pong ball made me nostalgic as I used to play it a lot back then. Overall, really solid entry ! |
| Apr 25 16:36:56 | 11m 12s | Devil's Doll | ♥ 1 | I found the game funny as hell (now that's a self-deprecating tone I can get behind !), it is one of the few text based games where the writing actually supports the game and keeps the player going forward, so kudos for that (yeah, I went left...) You mention "programmer's art and music" in your description, but both were very fitting and functional ! The way you introduce the player to your commands is also quite creative, and had me instantly hooked. The game is indeed tough as nails and each jump requires a good deal of preparation, which prevented me from going very far. That's a shame because I really wanted to read the rest of your story ! |
| Apr 25 16:55:50 | 18m 54s | Fire Duck Football | ♥ 2 | Great game with a great atmosphere and sense of humor (goooaaal !). The graphics are functional, but I really loved the sound design, and especially the choice to put random sportsmen in the background. Shooting works well, and the physics of the ball (going slightly up when being shot at) helps moving out of some positional lockdowns. Nice work ! |
| Apr 26 13:24:34 | 20h 28m | Torrejón Love Story | ♥ 2 | It's always pleasant to see a narrative game come out from a jam, especially when it's packed with as many idea as this one ! I loved the few first choices with the dead ends, the glouriously stupid story kept a grin on my face throughout my playthrough and I enjoyed the various fighting modes. Now on to the nitpicking : the turn-based fights tend to be a little easy, and the shoot'em up segments have problems of their own (the acceleration of the ship and the nice visual effects that sadly prevent you from seeing anything when you're against a boss). However, the game is incredibly polished for its size, the sound is great and the art is serviceable. Props to the whole team for this nice little adventure ! |
| Apr 26 13:32:45 | 8m 11s | Don't Shoot (Visual Novel / Tac Shooter | ♥ 0 | Nice narrative game, since visual novels and shooters often adopt the same first-person view, this choice is really relevant and could give birth to a great game ! The writing is good, especially during action scenes, and the audio is serviceable. Timed choices make a lot a sense given the context, but like @Dovakla and @OddballDave, I would have loved too see them better introduced/more forgiving. Nice work though, I would love to play a full version of this ! |
| Apr 26 13:41:25 | 8m 40s | Ready Set Box | ♥ 1 | The graphics are amazing considering this was made in one week-end ! The also definitely has enough "juice", and the main gameplay loop was entertaining enough to keep me coming back several times, considering the many subtleties of the fighting system. Like @jk5000 , I would have loved an end goal, but this is a super-neat prototype. |
| Apr 26 13:52:56 | 11m 31s | Cocaine McBain - A Farm Rush Adventure | ♥ 1 | Traditionally, farming games are associated with a calm, relaxing environment and gameplay... I really love your take on the rural cliché ! The graphics are top-notch, the game is so expressive ! Regarding gameplay, I found it quite intuitive and enjoyable (the long jump is a godsent). Had a great time, thanks for the game ! |
| Apr 26 14:01:38 | 8m 42s | Can't Get Along | ♥ 1 | What a beautiful game ! To think that such quality artwork was made for a 72h game... The gameplay has a lot of potential in multiplayer, the controls are simple and the goal is clear. The items somewhat lack maniability, but all in all I enjoyed my few playthoughs. Nice work ! |
| Apr 26 14:10:20 | 8m 42s | Excessive 2: Excessively Incompatible | ♥ 1 | The writing is top-notch, every sentence being carefully crafted in order to deliver an original message. I know how time-consuming this kind of thing can be, and I'm glad you pulled it off in 48 hours ! I also really enjoyed the way you played with the repetitions, regularly switching the rhythm of your story (I'm a sucker for this kind of thing). Being a lover of kinetic novel, there was definitely enough interaction for me, but I guess other players might want a little more on that front. All in all, nice work ! |
| Apr 26 14:21:43 | 11m 23s | Gem Labyrinth | ♥ 1 | A great take on the "Crypt of the Necrodancer" formula ! The pixel art is really neat, and the gameplay flows naturally along the exceptional soundtrack (where can I get this ?). On the nitpicking side, I just wish some displacements were a bit shorter, sometimes you spend a little too much time wandering through the level. Overall, nice work ! |
| Apr 26 14:31:02 | 9m 19s | Tetris Breakout | ♥ 1 | Nice mashup ! I did not spend that much time reading the description, so you can imagine my surprise when I saw these Tetris blocks coming from atop ! I really enjoyed it though, especially when a bigger number of blocks started to fall. Maybe you could reduce the cooldown of the powerup and increase the firing rate to add a little dynamism. Overall, great job ! |
| Apr 26 14:38:51 | 7m 49s | Time Spike | ♥ 1 | What a great gameplay loop ! Seriously, I had so much fun crawling through the level, the time intervals flow naturally, and once you get the hang of it the game becomes pretty epic, especially during the boosfight. I don't know if adding a little more "juice" would be detrimental to the experience, but you have my congratulations for such a neat title. On the aesthetical hand, the graphics are serviceable, and the music works great, so kudos for the polish on that part ! |
| Apr 26 14:45:40 | 6m 49s | Tetris Space Shooter | ♥ 0 | The gameplay mashup is great, the difficulty is balanced, and it has all the "juice" required from an action game, so nice job ! I would try to make the game a little more difficult (for example by making the pieces immediately fall in place when they collision with a ship), but I had a good time as is. |
| Apr 26 15:07:33 | 21m 53s | The Last Word | ♥ 3 | Great mashup between visual novel and strategy ! The artwork is absolutely outstanding, and I didn't expect to be blessed by adaptative music while playing a jam entry. Definitely one of the best LD games I've played from an aesthetic standpoint. The narrative is also strong, each description being carefully written and impactful (I found myself sending troops in other regions just to enjoy the art and the lore !). Gameplay wise, the loop is well rounded, and the rts part is functional. The game is well balanced, although the impossibility to select several units at once sometimes was a little overwhelming. The lack of resources also made the win unavoidable at some point, but that certainly ensures that player can enjoy more of your amazing artwork. Great work ! |
| Apr 26 15:22:53 | 15m 20s | YOU LEFT ME. | ♥ 1 | What an amazing experience. Every sequence of the game is carefully crafted, with a visual aesthetic that supports the great writing without ever slightly wavering. Plus, I was blown away by the non-linear strucuture that you successfully implemented with so few time and means. The audio successfully complements the whole to form a true piece of art. An absolute blast, the likes of which I did not expect to find after a 48h jam. |
| Apr 26 15:30:54 | 8m 01s | Battle Bots | ♥ 1 | A seriously polished entry, with a totally functional AI ! The graphics are really neat, and the sound design in particular gives to impact to the moves and shots. Gameplay-wise, this requires much more anticipation than I thought it would, and overall I had a great time. Nice job ! |
| Apr 26 15:39:56 | 9m 02s | Rootin' Tootin' Shootin' | ♥ 1 | A really nice game reminiscent of both Superhot and Hotline Miami. I really enjoyed having to plan my moves carefully to proceed through the levels, and the bullet time/reloading mechanics are neat ! On the nitpicking side, I only found out about reloading after looking at your submission page, but it all worked out in the end. The animations are great, and the graphcis are serviceable. Good job ! |
| Apr 26 15:50:07 | 10m 11s | Oni Hunter | ♥ 4 | A wonderful display of proficient game design. Each mechanic is introduced seamlessly in the different levels, and the loop really is addictive : the "juice" of the game is so well crafted that it is always a pleasure to see our little ninja fall back on his feet near the elevator after a job well done. Add to that great feel the variety of challenges, and you've got yourself one of the most promising prototypes I've played during this jam ! On the aesthetical standpoint, the pixel art is really neat, and the sound design contributes to the "feel" praised above. All in all, a really great entry, I can't wait to see more of this ! |
| Apr 26 15:58:09 | 8m 02s | Beat Date | ♥ 1 | That's a fun game, props to the drummer ! As you said, the game is astonishingly hard, but I was warned accordingly. Maybe try to add a little "juice" (screenshake, ...) when a note is successfully played to enhance readability. Nice work ! |
| Apr 26 16:07:05 | 8m 56s | First Person Platformer | ♥ 1 | Loved the concept ! The backjump are a bit confusing at first, but it gets better once you get the hang of it. I really loved the variety of mechanics (the speed boost is a great idea that adds some juice to a genre that tends to be a little slow), but I sometimes found it difficult to understand where I was or what was happening. Great job nonetheless ! |
| Apr 26 16:18:45 | 11m 40s | Dirty Pink | ♥ 2 | Now that's an art direction I can get behind ! Great hotline miami vibes, funny writing, top-notch music, and the graphics man... Even the UI look is so polished, the whole is really cohesive in a way you don't often see in a game jam. Gameplay-side, it really is a great mashup, and an addictive one ! It has all the juice I expect from a retro action game, and the difficulty seems balanced enough (I went through some trouble, but I'm really bad at this kind of stuff). Great work ! PS : I clicked on "play" before seeing there was a tutorial... And here I thought it was kind from the game to ask if I was truly ready... I chuckled after pressing "no" ! |
| Apr 27 13:30:19 | 21h 11m | Back in TIME | ♥ 1 | Nice execution of a good idea. I found back the thrill of killing wave after wave of ennemies while expanding my own base, so you got yourself a good tower defense ! The difficulty was rather well balanced, which is something you do not often see in jam games, so props for that ! The graphics are serviceable, but as @Nehvis said, I would be wary of reusing that many licensed assets. The music is good tho, so all in all, your game is enjoyable to play, to watch and to hear. Nicely done ! |
| Apr 27 13:39:37 | 9m 18s | Type-Zero | ♥ 1 | I love the certainly unique visuals, you did a nice job emulating the "Outrun" feel ! The music is also great and fits the mood ! Regarding the gameplay, I found the implementation of your idea really solid. The commands are easy to rember, it's quite easy to know how each command will affect your car, ... That made it easier to grasp than most text-based games. However, the car sometimes behaves strangely, and it is nigh impossible to go beyond the base speed and stay on track. But all in all, great job ! |

On the gameplay side, there is certainly potential in your formula, which is a bit reminiscent of Tokyo Jungle. I would just add some form of tutorial and add a big layer of polish so that it clicks more immediately ! Great job though, there is a truly apocalyptic mood in your game, and you've got yourself a nice base to build upon. |

Regarding the mini-games, like @drprettypatty, I think that the game would have benefited from a little more juice, and from a tutorial delivery. Aside from that, the various games are all fun and well executed. A well rounded game that has a tremendous lot to offer ! |
| Apr 27 14:15:02 | 10m 38s | Manic Tower | ♥ 1 | What a lovely take on the touhou fomula ! Gameplay-wise, the game flows well, the pattern, while classical, are enjoyable, and the tower mechanic is awesome and really adds something to the table ! In addition, the game is well-balanced, which is rare enough to be mentioned. My only problem was that I did not understand immediately that you had to place the towers during the "next level" screen, it would maybe help to grey out the button until all the towers are placed. From an aesthetical standpoint, the graphics are good, as well as the audio which is well above LD standards. All in all, congrats for that pretty neat game ! |
| Apr 27 14:25:04 | 10m 02s | Star Brawler | ♥ 1 | Gameplay-wise, I had no gripes with the control scheme, but rather with the way your beautiful animations translate into gameplay - the hitboxes are hard to read, and the length of the animation creates a small "input lag". However, I wouldn't know how to solve ths, maybe check some recent 2.5D fighting games such as SFIV to take inspiration. But all in all, I had a great deal of fun stomping ennemies and throwing them at their peers ! As I said earlier, the animations are really awesome, and the graphics generally are great. The audio also sets an epic mood, which is a great addition. To sum up, I would love to play an extended version of this game with a little more "juice" and readability ! |
| Apr 27 14:34:21 | 9m 17s | 'Lil Lost Squashy | ♥ 2 | The introduction of the commands in the best I've seen in this LD, so props for delivering a proper tutorial ! The gameplay works well, some jumps are a little too close from each other, but I guess that you need challenge at some point. The graphics and the audio are really neat ! The "cough cough" of Squashy quickly got on my nerves, but the game wouldn't really be the same without it - I just wish it had some more vocal expressions (I think I heard another one at some point in the game ?). Overall, great job guys ! |
| Apr 27 14:46:11 | 11m 50s | Learning with Mr. Bear | ♥ 2 | Hey, I actually kept playing for the voice acting (the "tictoc tictoc haha" really brought a grin to my face !). The gameplay is great, I love the use of props and lighting to make retrieving the right cube more difficult, even if it looks like there are some collisions problems, and sometimes some small props combined with the low lighting produces a glitch-like effect. But on a design and artistical standpoint, this was top-notch. Thanks for the game ! |
