| Apr 23 18:17:15 | A Virtual Friend | ♥ 2 | I was sad I was unable to give my pet "love" after he turned all cute -_-. Liked it, great aesthetic. For some reason my hands are getting cold and blue... | |
| Apr 23 19:24:38 | 1h 07m | Dash and Slash | ♥ 1 | I made it to level 2, died, and then didn't want to go through level 1 again... Simple concept but pretty well executed. It took me a while to get the hang of what the ".." did vs what the right arrow did, and how to use them to get in the right place to be able to kill a slime. |
| Apr 23 19:32:31 | 7m 53s | Two finger bloody opera | ♥ 0 | I seem to have difficulty understanding what I'm supposed to do or how to make positive progress... first game score was -300 something... very unclear what's happening, and what I need to do to change it :(. The visuals are nice combined with the opera music though =). |
| Apr 23 19:40:35 | 8m 04s | CCG Shoot 'em Up | ♥ 1 | I managed a score of 305, wave 7. Interesting to see how very different [from mine](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/deck-shooter), which is also a card-based shooter, though I went for real-time and deck building =). It wasn't always clear when I hit an enemy (did I miss? Did it have multiple HP?), so some kind of hit react or health bar would have helped there. I liked combining lots of weapons to have a turn of devastation =). |
| Apr 23 19:49:46 | 9m 11s | Tiny Crusader | ♥ 1 | I made it to level 23 on my first try. Seemed there was a degenerate strategy of just clearing out everything underneath and letting them fall all the way... though that failed on a level where they were almost immediately falling to their death and I had one stuck pixel covered in blood I couldn't find an erase until the final crusader flew by =). Love the look and feel, nice a simple and clean, but fluid feeling with the particles and smooth movement. |
| Apr 23 20:12:57 | 23m 11s | Chesburgrellia | ♥ 2 | Play a little bit, but got a crash: ``` Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'name' of undefined at Order.checkOrder (bmarcelus.github.io/:1308) at Order.click (bmarcelus.github.io/:962) at Order.update (bmarcelus.github.io/:932) at Order.update (bmarcelus.github.io/:1249) at CookyGame.update (bmarcelus.github.io/:540) at CookyGame.update (bmarcelus.github.io/:1966) at step (bmarcelus.github.io/:506) ``` I was just making single orders and sending them as quickly as possible. On my second playthrough I figured out I could queue up multiple orders, or even work on multiple orders, and that worked, and I didn't run into a crash =). Was pretty fun for basically being just clicking on the words as they appear on screen. The patty cooking mechanic was pretty satisfying, had to plan ahead a little, and always felt bad when things were burnt ^_^. Made it past level 11 before I finally got bored. |
| Apr 23 22:45:02 | 2h 32m | A Knight's Bounty | ♥ 2 | I found if I hide in the corner, the enemies spawn, but do not move towards me, I can snipe them all without taking a hit ^_^. Seems like the nice start to a game. Graphics have a nice, consistent style. A little sound or visuals on getting hit or scoring a hit would go a long way to making it feel better. |
| Apr 23 23:04:02 | 19m 00s | Dangerous Fields | ♥ 3 | I was unable to survive 12 days, perhaps I invested too much in dangerous plants... And this is despite that I found I could hang out on the right side of the field and shoot guys off-screen that weren't shooting back ^_^. I really enjoyed this. Would be *really* nice if I could just hold down the mouse button instead of stressing out my fingers clicking all the time. Great entry, and great combination of genres! |
| Apr 23 23:10:08 | 6m 06s | Hanoi - City of Scooters | ♥ 0 | I like the idea of a massively singleplayer game =). Glad to see other games with high scores and/or server components too! |
| Apr 24 13:55:36 | 14h 45m | Neo Montana 18XX | ♥ 0 | I made it to level 3 before I stumbled one area farther than I should have and was one-shot'd to my doom. I love the feel of this, from the very first screen it just screamed "door game" at me, and was probably as good as some actual door games I played back in the day ;). Took me a little while to figure out exactly how focus worked, but I enjoyed it, wasn't quite like any other combat system I've played. |
| Apr 24 14:13:21 | 17m 45s | Rythm is Lava | ♥ 1 | Wow, that was great! I won, "38% finished" in 21 deaths ^_^. Game felt really good, love the retro feel. Puzzles were all pretty solid. |
| Apr 24 15:02:57 | 49m 36s | In the Details | ♥ 1 | Great title =). I managed to play all the way to the end, got a little long when hunting for that last guy. Controls were very difficult for choosing where to spawn my devil, seemed kind of random regardless of where my mouse was, I couldn't get it where I wanted half of the time. I was playing the WebGL version. Nice take on the theme. |
| Apr 24 15:34:58 | 32m 01s | Aloisius | ♥ 2 | Great mashup idea! I played through all of the scenarios except for the last one, really enjoyed it. Only lost my first game, then settled on a "build a barracks diagonal from their base" strategy and ignored everything else, buying a pikeman every other turn for 6 turns, and that worked too well ^_^. The game felt very polished and I didn't run into any issues, everything seemed pretty clear. Took me a couple turns to realize units were costing gold, perhaps a negative symbol and having the gold coin animate downward would have been better than the slightly redder icon. |
| Apr 24 17:53:10 | 2h 18m | 土星の台頭 - Saturn Rising | ♥ 1 | Quite a combination of genres, that was neat! I managed to beat it (I think - there is no end screen after all are dead?) on my second try, with lots of energy mines to spare. Having different control schemes for the different avatars worked surprisingly well. A little sound or visuals when you were taking damage somewhere (sometimes off screen!) to know what was going on would help a lot, I think. |
| Apr 25 14:52:02 | 20h 58m | Cooking Mamba | ♥ 0 | Sound was good! Would have been nice to have more feedback on whether or not a note was correct or not. Noticed there was a tiny score in the corner, if that was more visible would have helped too. |
| Apr 25 15:07:05 | 15m 03s | Shady Tactics | ♥ 1 | That was surprisingly amusing! I thought I had every down, and it was going to be easy to win when suddenly two tiles disappeared leaving my robot embarrassingly exposed. Great genre combination. |
| Apr 25 16:30:29 | 1h 23m | Red and Black Wordly | ♥ 0 | Hmm, ended up getting a 5 letter word, "dyelc" as letters... and couldn't think of any solution... internet word unscramblers confirm no English 5 letter word exists with those 5 letters except maybe "ycled" which isn't in any real dictionaries... you might want to use a smaller dictionary =). Second game went much better, although I decided to mostly ignore the word guessing part until there was only a little bit of time left, only had to guess 2 words and concentrated on the top part to win. Took me quite a while to understand what all of the buttons did, especially button #2, which I thought required me to have 3 tokens of the same type in hand. I also didn't realize the players' hands were separate for a while (I guess the first time I clicked, the hand contents changed in a way that seemed to reflect my action, so I got stuck on a wrong idea). Would be good to see both players hands at any point in time. That was an interesting and unique combination. I liked that there was time pressure, but that it wasn't *too* much, gave me a little time to think and plan and try to think of words. |
| Apr 25 16:43:24 | 12m 55s | Rhythm Escape | ♥ 0 | Those colors in the menu *really* hurt my eyes, that's definitely combining two incompatible somethings. Was strange to not have to worry about the musical rhythm, or, rather, to set my own rhythm, but I think I liked that. Having the notes being played being a bit more musical would have really helped the feel, I think. Neat experience though, I managed to survive after two real attempts (ignoring the other two attempts where I was just figuring out mechanics and walked straight into a guard ;) |
| Apr 25 16:54:49 | 11m 25s | Tetris shooter | ♥ 1 | Seems after I died and started a new game, I could not see the previous game's blocks, but the blocks were getting stuck on them. Also, sometimes bullets seemed to pass right through blocks. Would have been interesting if I had to move the pieces at the same time as dodging and shooting them! |
| Apr 25 18:02:12 | 1h 07m | Realm Guard | ♥ 2 | Really great game! For some reason, I expected cards to be removed from my deck when I played them, though that's obviously not "deck-building", so I was surprised when things started showing up again =). I'm glad someone else did a deck-building game as well =). Graphics and sound all go together nicely for a retro feel. My first game ended when the purple-spawny guy set a spawner within my castle, out of range of all of my guns -_-. I think I'll play a second game now... and a third... and that level 13 purple guy keeps getting me... and a fourth... finally made it past level 13, purple guy left a spawner in my castle again, but an appropriately placed minigun saved me, leaving me with 1 health, which was just enough to survive to the end of the game! Wave 19 I finally got to try out the flamethrower, and wave 20, as if an intentional joke, my hand was... 3 Shock Towers and 2 Rifile Towers =). Still won though. Really liked how, unlike a normal deck-building game, I really only cared that about 2/5ths of my deck was good, as the rest couldn't be played anyway. |
| Apr 26 16:25:36 | 22h 23m | Deal Them 21 | ♥ 1 | Got close to completing it... took me three times... first time I didn't realize I could do anything about the A/C, thought this whole thing was a joke, then saw some comments, figured that out, then didn't realize I could know which cards are which, and figured out what the right mouse button did, then, finally, managed to deal some 21, 'til a card bounced onto the wrong placemat -_-. I had a lot of difficulty getting cards to land, maybe 1 in 10 shots, not sure if I was missing some technique or if it was just hard. Cute and ridiculous genre combination ^_^. |
| Apr 26 16:44:41 | 19m 05s | Bullets of Insight | ♥ 0 | Great game-play, a bullet-hell dodger that I can actually play ^_^. I managed to beat the first to levels and about half-way through the final, but failed to beat it. I liked being able to watch my replay of my whole game at "real-time" speed at the end. Wish the "stage select" would stick so I could keep retrying the last level without accidentally starting the first level each time. |
| Apr 26 16:51:19 | 6m 38s | Investment platforms | ♥ 1 | The platformer was really troublesome for me - I could never tell which platforms I could jump up through, which ones were going to fall away suddenly, and often was left with no possible place to jump to survive. I barely had any time to pay attention to the other stuff going on. I thought the jumping sound was me getting hurt, which confused the heck out of me until I realized it was just me jumping. The music integrated really well, gave it a nice feel. |
| Apr 26 17:00:19 | 9m 00s | Stealth Casual Farming Simulator | ♥ 1 | I managed to get a score of... 5, and I felt that was a bit of an accomplishment ^_^. I would often use a tool and it would interact with the wrong square, sometimes to devastating effects when my hoe removes the grass that is hiding me instead of the tile next to me I was trying to interact with. Some sort of roll-over highlight showing what is going to be interacted with would have made a *huge* difference. |
| Apr 27 16:32:36 | 23h 32m | Hit the Green! | ♥ 4 | Heheh, that was great, and well advertised! I beat the second/large course in 93 strokes. I mostly used my 1 Iron and 3 Wood, didn't find the 2 Iron particularly useful. Mouse sensitivity was *way* too high for me, had to change it in my OS to be able to actually aim my swings within the game. |
| Apr 27 16:42:30 | 9m 54s | Card Runner | ♥ 1 | My high score was 1077. Nice genre combination! Game was pretty solid, although I swear once I did a Move 2 Left and it only moved 1 left... but it was pretty frantic, so I could have been mistaken ^_^. I think perhaps having a pseudo-random "deck" where you're guaranteed to see each card with some frequency would have perhaps helped the randomness, I did often end up on one side with moves only toward that side, though it felt reasonable to have to burn those to draw new cards. |
| Apr 27 17:00:36 | 18m 06s | 4F - Faith, Forests, Fire and Floods | ♥ 1 | Wow, a "web" game without a giant, long Unity loading screen, cheers! I wasn't sure what to do for a while, seems like mostly just clicking "End Turn" over and over again, without being able to influence much. Tried starting a fire to clear out some forests and everyone died. Tried again and let the people grow quite a bit before interfering with them, and then had a little fun using fires to remove forests, and managed to get the whole map covered in farmland and settlements for the most part, I guess I'll burn them all to the ground now... |
| Apr 27 17:09:50 | 9m 14s | Card Royale | ♥ 1 | Those are quite the incompatible genres! Was frustrating at first, but then I started paying more attention to getting myself into positions where I could burn the cards that made negative progress, and I stuck with it, and it was very rewarding to finally defeat my enemy. Perhaps some way to just discard a card (still pay the cost?) would have been nice, and less frustrating. |
| Apr 27 17:34:27 | 24m 37s | Dr. Snake | ♥ 2 | I love it! Wow, what a brilliant combination that works so very, very well. I love caring about the color of my snake's head. I love figuring out weird ways to ram my snake into a wall to have it fall in the right pose onto the other blocks. I really like being able to spin my snake in circles for a bit to give myself some time to figure out a clever placement. I also love that just from the title and 4 color picture I could guess almost exactly what the gameplay was going to be like, yet it felt so fresh. I managed to get through two levels, this is quite challenging! Only thing that felt a little frustrating was having no way to speed things up, not sure how that should be done, perhaps just a button to press to immediately jump forward a space, or even a "freeze" button that would drop the snake, but I think that would ruin the elegance and trickiness of finding a place to get in the right position. Really tempted to throw together a competitive local multiplayer version of this before my next game day... |
| Apr 28 00:48:50 | 7h 14m | Haiti Kitty | ♥ 1 | Managed to baseball bat the Maid-mer on my 3rd try, but somehow only got 3 stars after the cooking :(. What a cute combination of themes and genres! |
| Apr 30 14:35:03 | 61h 46m | Element Crush | ♥ 1 | Final score 563 =). I made a level 3 water tower in my second game, hoping its range would get bigger, but it did not, and it was not strong enough to get any farther than I did in my first game. This was a great entry, I really enjoyed it! I think maybe the number of swaps should increase as levels go farther, as things get awfully difficult and that would help offset it a bit. From reading other people's comments, I had absolutely no idea the gold arrows would clear enemies! I thought it was to clear rows of your board that were getting ugly, that could be clarified. Maybe I need to play it one more time, knowing that... |
| Apr 30 15:03:39 | 28m 36s | Deck Cutters: Hearth of the Cards | ♥ 0 | Interesting combination! I found it mostly confusing... I spent a while building my first deck, and then died before I could figure out how to play a card (thought I just had to press the number based on the instructions). Next game I made it a few rounds, but spent all of my time just running, had no idea which creatures were mine and which were enemies so just ran, ran, ran. Looked nice, and sound a music fit quite well. |
| Apr 30 16:04:15 | 1h 00m | Text Based Adventure | ♥ 1 | I like that the edge of the world is nulls =). Having shift change weapons combined with it catching my shift presses in the background makes it really hard to type this feedback when I can hear my weapon changing in the background... I had a heart drop from a monster that spawned on top of a wall, so I could not pick it up :(. Or so I thought, maybe it was because my health was full, but it looked wrong so I was confused =). I did run into an invisible wall (lower right of level 2, I think - the wall you need to go around to start going back up extended 2 characters beyond it's visible length). I think I accidentally entered Z's cavern without realizing it, as it didn't look like the rest of the screen transitions, I didn't think I'd be unable to go back :(. The graphics are just lovely, really enjoyed it. I liked the enemy AI, they often felt quite different from each other, not sure if it was just random or if each letter was different, but it definitely felt good. I just barely managed to defeat Z, that was a great boss fight and difficultly ramp =). |
| Apr 30 16:23:01 | 18m 46s | Sleeping Titanium | ♥ 1 | It's an idle game, but it pauses when it's in the background, that's not fair! I'll admit I removed the window.onblur handler so I could leave this running in the background... Being able to click and drag to swap might have been nice. Also bonus points for making 4+ in a row would be nice. It would have been nice to have some numbers displayed about what the upgrades do, so I could make a reasonable choice on what to buy next. Something made the match-3 start making more energy, but I wasn't able to figure out what, and soon the energy number was going up so fast I had no hope of figuring out what was going on, so the game basically turned into clicking randomly :(. I like the visual aesthetic, nice and clean, except where the sheep or chickens are randomly placed slightly outside their pen. I'm not sure there's an end to the game or not, but after 100,000 energy it seems the text is cut off, only showing the most significant 5 digits. I haven't seen any upgrades in a while, so maybe the game is over... I guess I'll just buy more chickens... |
| May 1 15:56:44 | 23h 33m | Power in Numbers | ♥ 1 | Had a lot of difficulty with the controls, the combination of inverted mouse and not keeping focus on the window meant I kept turn the wrong way, then clicking off of the window, and getting murdered by police while trying to get focus back on the window :(. I managed to destroy 17 buildings, however at some point I just got swarmed with police (maybe around half way?) and then I just kept running for the rest of the game, which did avoid getting hit, but wasn't much fun. When things got fast paced, I ended up just targeting odd-numbered people, which was much easier than trying to figure out if they were divisible by 3 but not 4 ^_^. I liked the concept, and despite the control issues, this was pretty fun at the beginning. |
| May 1 16:25:11 | 28m 27s | Age of Spires IV (Text/Console + RTS) | ♥ 1 | Note for others with this problem, if you try to run this on Windows and just get a bunch of ANSI escape codes, run "javaw" instead of "java" and it seems to work. Running the post-compo version - my first game ended by me being attacked before I figured out how to do anything. Second game seems to have ended but didn't tell me anything... maybe I was about to run out of food (have more warriors than I had food on the status screen), but it didn't say anything this time. Next game I was defeated as soon as I built my first farm... next game I literally died before I could press any buttons, game timer is at "4m59s" -_-. Noticed there are 7 players in these games, and maybe a stray javaw.exe process, maybe some change a previous bot was still playing and had lots of stuff or something? Killing all Java instances between runs seems to make me not die in the first 3 seconds now. It seems I'm maybe losing farms as well as warriors when I get attacked, some message about that would be nice. Once I managed to live more than a minute or two, final score was 32. I like the console aesthetics, though having to reposition windows each time and having to switch focus to the right window to be able to (q)uit was rather annoying. Some status about the enemy - perhaps strength of neighbors and a time-delay on attacks so you can see what's coming would be very useful. |
| May 1 16:34:20 | 9m 09s | Legion Academy (LD41) | ♥ 1 | The buttons are off the bottom of my screen when running at 2560x1600. Switching to a 16:9 resolution seems to fix it though. Managed to get a score of 6! Nice little game. Quickly got very difficult to stay alive, and didn't seem like there was any possibility of doing so for long ^_^. |
| May 2 14:18:17 | 21h 43m | Sheet Music Editor Shoot'Em Up | ♥ 0 | My high score: 2778! Took a while to get the hang of it, but finally felt like I was doing okay. Gameplay felt super fluid which was nice. I love the take on the theme. It was sometimes too easy to drop off the bottom, seems like I often tried to drop down a couple whole steps and ended up falling to my bass clefy death. |
| May 2 14:46:32 | 28m 15s | Time Tug | ♥ 0 | Nice game, mechanics work pretty great! The first level seemed a little too dependent on memorizing where things spawn, the first time guys would spawn and shoot at me before I had any chance to move out of the way or kill enough so there wasn't a solid wall of bullets coming down (although, from playing more, maybe my hit box was small enough I could have fit through some of those bullets, but it sure didn't look like it). I had to play the first level a couple times before surviving through it, but then died on the third level. Was exciting to make it that far! Letting the movement happen on your turn was nice, it eliminates the "where exactly are the bullets going to be by the time I get done moving" guesswork in other turn-based shooters. |
| May 2 15:04:24 | 17m 52s | sequencer tower defense | ♥ 1 | That was fun! I tried a second time after reading about the bonus towers if you hit the rhythm, however I only managed to do so a couple times, it's really hard without much warning that the wave is about to start and you need to start hitting the rhythm again. Some feedback on hitting it right would definitely help. I couldn't figure out what the different towers did, at first I thought the size of their circles when you hit them was their range, but that was clearly not the case, so I just placed towers randomly =). |
| May 2 15:17:24 | 13m 00s | Crash Crops | ♥ 1 | Brilliant combination, I could see this being a ton of fun as a more fleshed-out game! I had a lot of difficultly getting the tools I wanted at the right time, I think if there was a separate button for each tool (I know, can't do that in PICO-8), it would make the gameplay a lot more interesting and rewarding. As you mentioned, physics problems were an issue... missing the traditional physically "round" paddle from breakout meant it was impossible to have any control over where the ball went after hitting the paddle, which left it often going in the same exact patterns, which got boring, if profitable ^_^. |
| May 3 16:45:26 | 25h 28m | Between Dimensions | ♥ 1 | That was hard! I often got switched to first person, and found myself making lots of progress... backwards... was hard to know which way I should be going. Controls (on the downloaded Windows version) seem to have a *lot* of latency.. have to hold an arrow key for quite a while before I start moving, makes moving mid-jump really difficult. Great visuals, impressive how much art you got done, and how expansive the level was =). |
| May 3 17:00:24 | 14m 58s | RPGs Done Quick | ♥ 1 | Mine time was a little over 10 minutes, however I did the whole rat quest (no rewards! :( ) first before figuring out what I should be doing ^_^. I really like being told I set a world record at the end, though clearly I didn't ;). That was really well done, great set of content for a compo game, and looks great, a little sound would have gone a long way, I think. |
| May 4 14:27:42 | 21h 27m | SUSHI IS FISH + RICE | ♥ 0 | Nice game! A little sound or visuals when an order was properly filled (since I'm never looking at that part of the screen when I'm frantically clicking) would have gone a long way to improving the feel, I think. When deciding what cards to draw, did it bias towards giving you rice if you had none on the board/in hand, or was I just getting really lucky? =) I didn't seem to make much progress, ended up at $77, which I think is less than I started (though I did have a bunch of cards in hand). Perhaps always buying rice too late every time, effectively for $3, was hurting my profits :). I think if the profit margins were a little bigger it would have left me feeling like I was accomplishing something, and not just treading water. Eventually the game got stuck - I could select cards, but it would no longer make sushi. I think maybe I had a card selected when I clicked Refresh. |
| May 4 15:03:56 | 36m 14s | Witchbeat | ♥ 0 | Wow, amazing work! I love the art, music, sound, even the writing was charming! Rhythm gameplay felt good, and since each target was sometimes a little different it didn't feel too repetitive. Great work! |
| May 4 15:50:18 | 46m 22s | Platform Hero | ♥ 1 | Pretty good! I had a lot of difficulty with the platform parts, there was one coin on level 2 I just couldn't get to in the upper right... ran out of time trying to get it, and when I died and had to start again from level 1, that was the end for me ^_^. |
| May 4 16:19:58 | 29m 40s | Rhythm and Cruise | ♥ 1 | Great little game! I love having to concentrate on not running aground at the same time as trying to hit the notes, was very challenging. Got my hi score the first time I played, at 310. On a later playthrough I realized I could slam the arrow keys at the beginning and get to an immediate 3x multiplier, however then so many notes started coming down I lost immediately =). |
