| Dec 4 03:08:47 | Hoarding Havoc | ♥ 2 | I lost my first game, with a Blink in hand, 4 steps from the goal, because I couldn't resist picking up a Shiny Sword. Sounds like me in every RPG I play. My second game went more poorly, got horded by a goblins, and couldn't help hoarding their rocks, and never made any forward progress. I like the simple card game mechanics. Could use a little more explanation - had no idea what the "uses" icon was until after I sat through the "tutorial", but I managed to figure out what all of the rest of the icons were during my first game. Maybe a flag or road icon would be better for the "distance to goal" value. | |
| Dec 4 16:35:54 | 13h 27m | RedCell | ♥ 2 | Cute character, I love it! Jumping was weird, when I'm holding the jump button, but it's no longer doing anything, it seems to block the horizontal movement, which was really annoying. I guess just tapping the jump button and then moving horizontally worked okay, but whenever I held jump, it felt really awkward. Good job for your first entry! |
| Dec 4 18:24:31 | 1h 48m | Bubble Sort | ♥ 1 | My high score: 21.1. The instructions say "drag", but it seems dragging makes them grow and split, so I found that just clicking/flicking them was much more effective (usually got to 15 seconds before they split the first time, then things go poorly!). Nice, fresh mechanic. I like the clean visuals. Audio seemed intermittent - exactly one game it said "10 seconds to new high score" "5 seconds to new high score", but I didn't hear it beyond that. |
| Dec 4 18:36:02 | 11m 31s | Imbalanced | ♥ 1 | My high score: 200. That was kind of fun. Graphics are cute, gameplay was pretty good, eventually I got the hang of keeping the wolves under control, only to lose all of my grassland, and my next game I managed to balance both pretty well until a stray lightning bolt killed my wolf pair -_-. Controls could definitely use some work - some way to pan without moving the mouse to the side of the screen (drag, WASD, Arrow keys, anything) would be great. However, I usually just zoomed out so I could see the whole map and played from there anyway, so just being able to maximize the window and see the whole thing instead of a tiny window on my giant monitor would be great ;). |
| Dec 4 18:43:38 | 7m 36s | Bring Your Own Bullets | ♥ 0 | First time running I couldn't figure out how to fire (saw some kind of countdown?) and then the game crashed when I died -_-. Managed to fire some on my second try, though usually could only managed to click on a small fraction of the prompts, I think this game depends a lot on what kind of mouse/touchpad you use ;). I also had trouble figuring out which direction the bullets were going to go - was it where I first clicked, or where the mouse was when I finish clicking through the prompts (so, someplace random), or some random offset of one of those? Couldn't tell, so made it frustrating that when I managed to fire a bullet, I had no idea if it would go towards anything useful or not. I really like the concept though, and picking up discarded bullets was lots of fun =). Edit: Sound is working now, somehow it got muted on my system between playing the last entry and this one, sorry =) |
| Dec 4 18:46:44 | 3m 06s | Chaos Space Kitchen | ♥ 1 | How do I run this? Download is just a .jar? I tried running `java` or `javaw` `chaos-space-kitchen.jar`, which I thought was how I might run jars, but nothing happened. |
| Dec 4 19:04:31 | 17m 47s | Purr-suasion | ♥ 2 | I'm confused... what kind of cat is *afraid* of a mouse? :P Great entry, love the sound and style =). Or, maybe I just love cats. Difficulty curve was a little low, I don't think I lost a single cat before getting through all of the levels, would have enjoyed failing and needing to retry a couple of them. |
| Dec 4 22:19:54 | 3h 15m | The Good Boi | ♥ 0 | Couldn't figure out where to herd the cats at first... I guess.. the trash? I had a problem where pressing space often did not bork. Seemed like it was usually when I was holding down movement keys or just changed directions, but I could not narrow it down. It was definitely not due to being out of power, just sometimes wouldn't bork. I ended up changing my strategy to just constantly tap space instead of carefully place my borks, and then was able to get through all of the levels. Love the bork sound =). |
| Dec 4 22:39:51 | 19m 57s | Fluffy Space Escape | ♥ 1 | Great little game! I played all the way through, finished with 44 deaths, though I could not figure out the logic/patterns of the enemies, sometimes I just won by trying random things. I'm always pleased when I pull out my NES emulator to play a Ludum Dare entry =). Also, is your take on the theme a commentary on the capabilities of modern gaming hardware? |
| Dec 4 22:57:13 | 17m 22s | Rabbit Farmer!!! | ♥ 1 | Heheh, I love it! I especially love how the day continues even after hundreds more bunnies have escaped than my limit allows, as my screen just fills with bunnies =). Managed to beat the game on my second try. |
| Dec 4 23:38:25 | 41m 12s | Rise Of Corruption | ♥ 2 | Great game, quite an accomplishment for 48 hours! My first game failed horribly, was getting attacked before I could figure out the basics, second game I seemed to build up an impregnable defense and mined out a large amount of the mountain before the game finally froze. I was really confused with workers not doing anything until I remembered what you wrote and realized those weren't workers, but guards, smiths, etc, and weren't supposed to be doing anything. Just a color swap on that would have gone a very, very long way to getting a better feeling of what was going on. I had a lot of difficulty cancelling tasks - sometimes alt-click would work, other times they would just stay there, or a bunch of random clicking, right clicking, switching tools, etc, would eventually make them go away. I think these were often tasks that I didn't have enough resources to finish or something. Final hang was when trying to remove a "Clear" task though. |
| Dec 5 00:19:50 | 41m 25s | Observer: Bunker Sim | ♥ 1 | I had a lot of trouble being interrupted while clicking on things and not being able to figure out how things were working... seems the time delay for the day didn't serve much purpose... at the beginning it's just staring at a blank screen, and later it's not even enough time to read the description of a new item and equip it. Some of that was I had a lot of difficulty figuring out how to equip things - seems clicking on an empty box didn't always bring up the list of items, maybe just clicking on the first one? I ended up losing because, I think, I had too many computers turned on which drained all of my energy. That sounds like something I'd actually do, but I was frustrated trying to figure out how things were working and constantly getting other things popping up, and having some dialogs I couldn't get rid of (sometimes there was an "empty room" dialog up, maybe I clicked on an empty room somewhere, but I couldn't close it). Despite the frustration, I enjoyed running my base for the time I did =). |
| Dec 5 00:33:14 | 13m 24s | Nano Life | ♥ 1 | I couldn't figure out how to get nanomachines to grow, and not die. Is there a certain amount of bacteria they need to be around? Is it the circular area they take up, or just the cell they're under? How much is "too much"? The one time I got my nanomachines to, randomly, grow, the simulation speed went crazy fast (seemed to be 50-100 simulatino ticks per second) and my temperature skyrocketed in just a few seconds and then everything burned up :(. |
| Dec 5 15:21:42 | 14h 48m | A Dying City | ♥ 0 | I ran out of funds and popularity on turn 10 ^_^. I had problems feeling any sense of agency - I would choose things, but got absolutely no feedback on what their results would be, and were. Usually I could watch the numbers change on just one district when I ended my turn, and get some feedback ("yep, cutting a deal increased crime"), but not enough to make any interesting decisions, or answer the obvious questions of how much things cost and how much they helped. I like little sim/strategy games like this, it's a nice change from most entries. I did enjoy playing it, even if I was confused =). |
| Dec 5 15:34:25 | 12m 43s | Sunken | ♥ 1 | Love it! Really like the art. Dungeon exploring was fun. I was amused by the fact that Charisma was not a useless stat =). My high score was 528 (although I might play it a couple more times). As others mentioned, double-tapping to move was rather annoying. Getting feedback when I open a chest would be great, I never notice what stats change, until later I'm like "why do I only have 4 max health?". Similarly some kind of feedback on damage dealt/received would feel really good. Great job! Played it one more time, got over 700 points =). Only now did I realize the "time until flooding" was real time, not steps! I assumed it was number of steps I could take, perhaps because of the icon. I'm not sure what I think about that, but it definitely could be clearer (change the text to "seconds until flooding"?), as something realtime is relatively unexpected in a rogue-like. |
| Dec 5 15:56:00 | 21m 35s | Conquer | ♥ 1 | Hmm, seems to crash if you try to shoot an arrow and you're out of arrows! I guess that really hurt. Was fun until then. Was a little difficult telling what was going on some times. It was nice the trees faded when you were behind them, but the huts didn't, so I was sometimes behind a hut getting attacked without realizing it. |
| Dec 6 00:53:06 | 8h 57m | Permanence | ♥ 2 | That was amazing =). Great gameplay, polished, great art, and a moody story, too. Almost no complaints here =). I found the turning controls a little awkward, I think I'd prefer just simply L/R or A/D to turn and U/D or W/S to move forward/backwards (although, of course, some people hate that since when you're facing downward on the screen, Up moves your forward which is down... but I find it way less confusing). On the other hand, every time I moved or turned instead of turning or moving, I could just undo, so I'm super glad that was there =). Levels were all pretty great, with good progression, except 4-2 has a *way* simpler solution than yours... just, uh, walk straight to the right, taking a single step out of your way to step on the green switch (walking backwards after each switch). |
| Dec 6 02:39:13 | 1h 46m | World Domenation | ♥ 4 | I seem to have horrible luck, but I kept on trying... I almost always built a builder first, and sent it to the nearest gold, the first few games, spawners just poured guys at me before I have enough to even build a couple infantry, and I was quickly overrun. The next game, the spawners kept spawning right next to my base, and my two infantry could just squash them, and there were only 3 gold tiles, so I won trivially. My final game was actually a decent challenge.. got up to a a few bases, lost some (all of my gold producers!), was trapped in a corner and only surviving because the AI wasn't smart enough to move around their own guys, and I was able to build a couple safe bases and slowly turtle my way towards them, pumping out and losing a few infantry a turn. Perhaps the initial experience for LD players should be a fixed random seed that generates a known beatable level =). Controls were a bit awkward, didn't like how much I needed to click to do things (though finally stumbled on right click to move, that would have been good to know!). Hotkeys for the build menus would have been good. The game was pretty complex and making it in a weekend is an accomplishment you should be proud of =). |
| Dec 6 02:52:13 | 13m 00s | Mines of Dorkia | ♥ 1 | Nice game! My first try I just randomly built towers and dwarves (and won), and on the second try I tried making towers that controlled the flow of enemies, which turned out to be a very bad idea, as it also limited the flow of my dwarves to walking through the oncoming horde =). That one didn't go so well. I liked sound and music, nicely sets the mood. |
| Dec 6 03:16:29 | 24m 16s | Avaricium Mines | ♥ 0 | Controls could really use key-repeat or something, my arm is sore from all of the tapping S and W. The progress/balance seems way off, I was able to afford just a couple upgrades, and then it was a the point where the next ore was so far down that I could only survive carrying 3 ore up, which got mindnumbingly boring quickly. I really like the take on the theme, it works really well, it was fun balancing the risk and reward of grabbing just a little more ore, until the point where it became very clear how many I could carry ^_^. |
| Dec 6 03:20:41 | 4m 12s | Excessive | ♥ 1 | Though getting a .BAS file to run is fun for some of us, you might want to put up a download bundled with DOSBox so people can just download and run it (like I did for [my entry a few Jams ago](http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-36/?action=preview&uid=55346) when the theme was... Ancient Technology ;). Grab that .zip and replace the .bat file and you can probably have something workable in a few moments. |
| Dec 6 03:29:12 | 8m 31s | Puzzle Progress Prototype | ♥ 1 | Interesting idea. Seems the last level depends a lot on luck of which way the blue ones move though, I was not able to solve it :(. |
| Dec 6 03:41:12 | 12m 00s | One Million Dollars | ♥ 1 | Where did my wife go? :( At least I have a golden yacht... |
| Dec 6 04:08:52 | 27m 40s | Intergalactic Misfortune [Compo] | ♥ 1 | Interesting! Reminds me a lot of an old game PAX Solaris. Difficulty is spot-on! I had to play most levels 1-3 times to beat them, which is perfect =). Ran into one bug where sometimes ships would just orbit an enemy planet that claimed to have 1 enemy there, but no one would die, and they'd just stay there. A few levels (not sure how many... the one where I start with like 500 ships on one planet) in this happened and the framerate plummeted until the game hung, as hundreds of ships kept attacking one planet (mine in this case) which wouldn't die. |
| Dec 6 04:38:12 | 29m 20s | The Weissman Challenge | ♥ 1 | Final score: 2.83 (missed one?). This was fun, and challenging because I'm so used to typing whole words ^_^. Nice, simple, and well executed. |
| Dec 6 22:52:16 | 18h 14m | Gods Fate | ♥ 0 | Interesting. Without any objective or goal, I found myself lose interest pretty quick though. I like the look of it. |
| Dec 6 23:07:16 | 15m 00s | GLORIOUS INTERNET POINTS | ♥ 1 | Geocities, LOL! Somehow after eating a ghost pepper a couple times, I ended up with negative followers, and I was able to immediately sell -100,000 data to wrack up incredible debt... On my second game, I died surprise hugging a stray cat. Yep, that's exactly how I would want to go. Quite amusing, I liked the random comments people generated =). A little more sound or music (some feedback on success/failure) would go a long way, I think. |
| Dec 6 23:15:21 | 8m 05s | Lava Lamptris | ♥ 1 | Seems to crash whenever I rotate a piece near the edge (I see it go outside the board for one frame before the crash). Similarly, if I rotate near other blocks, the falling piece seems to stick in them. Also, it says it's running at 4000 FPS, you might want to enable V-Sync =). This doesn't seem different enough from vanilla Tetris to me, it would be more interesting if something was different, either new pieces, or, to play on the lava theme, the pieces melt/flow a bit, or something like that. |
| Dec 6 23:24:25 | 9m 04s | Sky-Corsair | ♥ 1 | Nice look! My first game I was destroyed by a rock while some bucko was trying to explain how to use cannons :(. Second game I managed to shoot some cannons, but was unable to kill anyone, and didn't want to sit through the first part of the game again ^_^. |
| Dec 6 23:35:07 | 10m 42s | Tangram Technologies | ♥ 0 | It would have been really nice to indicate which piece was being dragged, so you could see what is left (e.g. dim the piece (on the board) you picked up). I managed to get through a handful of levels and then it went black, did I beat it? =) The levels always seemed like they would be really challenging at first, and then I quickly stumbled to a solution... did most levels have lots of solutions, or was I lucky, or is it something about this kind of puzzle that once you put down a couple pieces, the others are almost guaranteed to work? I don't think I ever had to pick up my first couple pieces I placed, which surprised me. New (to me) puzzle idea and the visuals and art were both nice too, pretty nice submission! |
| Dec 7 00:43:44 | 1h 08m | Triage Towers | ♥ 1 | Incredibly deep for being made in such a short period! Tutorial was great. I had difficultly figuring out how to make a profit though... built some of anything, and my money kept on draining... Graphics were nice and varied, having the different colors for the different wings was great! |
| Dec 7 01:12:13 | 28m 29s | Apokalipsa | ♥ 1 | Nice work! I was able to beat the game on my first try, but it was a close thing, which was exciting =). I felt like the placement of settlements and the movement on the map was a little unneccessary - didn't seem to matter where I placed them and really it was just me choosing "option 1,2,3 for risk/reward tradeoff" - map could have just been a line of 3 squares you moved between. However, it seems the game might feel even more contrived without a map... So if there was just a little something to it - maybe settlements giving bonus items if you go revisit them, or if looting the same place a second time gave less, I think it would have made the map mechanic really tie things together, instead of feeling like random wandering. At least, I'm assuming where I was didn't matter on the map, I didn't seem to get any worse loot from re-looting. Overall, was a lot of fun though =). |
| Dec 8 00:04:56 | 22h 52m | Leader's guidance | ♥ 1 | That's pretty great, it definitely is similar to mine, thanks for recommending it =). I really like that the restrictions are phrased in terms of social advice, each one was amusing. I tried for quite a while to bring 5 steel bars (the final level?), but just couldn't do it. Exactly once I had 5 bars, was one hop from the end, with 1 second left, and failed at consecutive jumping -_-. My hand is sore, I'm going to stop playing now =). I was often cited for consecutive jumping when I had not "jumped" in quite a while, which annoyed me until I realized that falling from a platform counted as jumping, then it was okay, but still slightly bothersome. A little sound, especially a landing sound to time when the next jump is legal, would have gone a long way. |
| Dec 8 21:25:59 | 21h 21m | Greed Mania | ♥ 1 | That was a lot of fun! Not much for interesting choices to make or anything, but I like that the level specifically got worse when I picked up some loot, never felt like the game was randomly punishing me. My high score was only 390, though I kept on playing one more game for a while =). First game I died as soon as I picked up loot for no apparently reason. Reason was apparently the loot was next to the wall and I had no idea the (non-red) walls could kill me! |
| Dec 8 21:34:43 | 8m 44s | Mo Money Mo Problems | ♥ 1 | My high score: 34461 Who picks up pennies anyway? I usually had difficultly dropping coins into bags, having a rollover effect when the mouse was in the right place, or making the hotspot much bigger would have made the game a lot less frustrating. Same with sometimes picking up the wrong thing when things were nearby each other. Progression was nice, I liked that the amount of stuff on my table increased both my, and my character's, stress! |
| Dec 8 21:41:29 | 6m 46s | Mo' Gold, Mo' Dragons | ♥ 0 | Neat idea! Nice and simple. I loved the movement, both character and dragons, they booth seemed fluid and different enough. My high score: 41. |
| Dec 8 23:05:57 | 1h 24m | The Invasion of Terra | ♥ 1 | I can't get past the first zombie... he seems to destroy me before I can even figure out if I'm attacking and if I'm doing any damage... and I don't want to deal with the spiders one more time, so I guess that's as far as I get ^_^. I enjoyed the MS Paint style graphics. Sounds were pretty good =). |
| Dec 8 23:14:37 | 8m 40s | Work Master | ♥ 0 | Cute game. I wasn't able to get my work queue down under 60% or so :(. I like the look, and audio is solid. Having to click the small gray border before any input is accepted (even after clicking an earlier OK button!) is really bad, took me quite a while to figure out how even get the game activated and accepting input! |
| Dec 8 23:25:46 | 11m 09s | A simple man | ♥ 1 | Lot the hat falling off on the jump =). Would have liked to not have to jump to get up over single block inclines. By the time it asked for Olive and Sugar Cane, I was way, way to the right (in some new biome), and it said to go left :(. Then it said go right, and I don't think I'm willing to walk all the way past that area I already went through -_-. Great style. Total wheat collected (I couldn't resist holding space while running): 754. |
| Dec 14 21:34:00 | 142h 08m | Mountain Diver | ♥ 1 | My score when I finally beat it - 76/50. Really unique mechanic, it is a wonderful tradeoff on how many crystals to grab on the way down! |
| Dec 14 21:39:59 | 5m 59s | To the other side | ♥ 1 | Great sprites an animation =). I really liked how much worse things got the more I had. Unfortunately, it got so bad after 2 that I killed myself with my own bubble, didn't manage to get three crystals :(. The one-hit kill was a bit rough -_-. |
| Dec 14 22:07:24 | 27m 25s | Crimson Assault | ♥ 0 | I had a lot of problems with the tiny window, kept clicking off it, loosing control, and my guys died :(. I liked watching the guys fumble around though, when I got up to 6 guys, but could never keep more than that alive. |
| Dec 14 22:15:52 | 8m 28s | The Legend of the Bikini Armor | ♥ 1 | Looks great! I love the take on the theme. My first two times I just tried to not get hit, and I died. My third time, I just handed my armor to the first rat I cam across, and then smoothly danced my way to the goal. Definitely worse having more. |
| Dec 14 22:22:51 | 6m 59s | Feature Creep Inc | ♥ 2 | Took me a while to realize you meant I *had* to use a controller if a controller was plugged in. A bunch of text was clipped off the screen, including something that started with "SU" in the upper right which apparently ended the game :(. |
| Dec 14 22:33:30 | 10m 39s | Perigee | ♥ 2 | My continent of not-antarctica quickly became a porcupine of lasers. Not being able to build things where bunnies were seemed rather annoying, although I guess it enforced the theme... I found I just needed to click randomly all over the screen and hope it let me place something down, somewhere, which was not fun. I did like the initial building up of my planet, though! |
| Dec 15 17:11:23 | 18h 37m | Slum Lord | ♥ 0 | I saved to 20,000, then pressed B to buy an extra house, but it bought *two* houses and I immediately lost :(. The controls are incredibly frustrating, I would suggest: * Just press the number once, don't need to hold it, highlight the house that's selected * Show the letter required to be pressed to fix things * Or, just allow clicking on them? * Don't buy multiple houses if B is held down, just buy one per press I was unable to get past 2 houses ^_^. |
| Dec 15 17:34:46 | 23m 23s | Cohesion | ♥ 0 | Great level design, quite a few levels, and very challenging! I got to level 15 before I had to use the Reset button. Web version crashed (maybe crashed Chrome?) when I switched tabs though :(. I enjoyed it enough that I replayed the levels to keep going though, and managed to make it to the end, yay! Good music and simple aesthetics as well. |
| Dec 15 17:52:19 | 17m 33s | Usagi Story | ♥ 0 | Great styl! I had some collision issues, it felt like I should be able to give food to the bunnies from above, but I always failed, and had to move closer. It was very good that there was the name popup so I knew when it would actually work or not. Tiny sized window was also a problem on my giant screen :(. I got a little bored, and unchallenged, and just say idly by starting at day 8, then on day 9, Roy, and all of his brothers and sisters except Chise passed away. Somehow Chise had twins, and then I stopped playing. =) |
| Dec 15 17:58:19 | 6m 00s | Archer's Defense | ♥ 0 | My score: 297. That was fun. Sound sound would have been very nice. |
