Did a very small patch today where some wall tiles in a room would appear above the player. In the web version, you'll need to clear the browser cache (or do a forced refresh) if you played the earlier version.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD40 → To the other side

Good job for a compo short time restriction. Graphic is enjoyable, the game itself is clean and overall left good feels. However i would suggest to to raise a bit player movement speed, if the enemy get too close you don't have time to run or to try shoot him down. Also try to rate and left some feedback and other games, otherwise you wold not get any attention wich will be a shame. Nice job, keep going.
Love the death animation!
@zirconcode happy you like it, it's what I'm most proud of!
A bit like Zelda with instant dead. A bit too hard for me, but nice for someone who likes challenging games. Maybe add an easy mode with 3 hitpoints? Nice game :)
Solid simple game, very well done for a compo entry. I liked the story that went along with it! Great work!
Cool game, But the controls were slightly weird, It would have been more normal to have movement with WASD and shooting with maybe space or the mouse. The game had music i'm amazed! not that many compo games have it. And the sound effects were pretty good to. The the game was now a about lining up your shot before the enemies notice you, if they do you were in trouble and almost almost died if they diagonally from you. So I think it would have been better if you had the aim with the mouse and maybe more enemies. But that is just an idea not a criticism of the game.
Altogether a very nice game!
Maybe raise the player speed, or allow it to run, because it is really slow, which is too bad
The graphics, while simple, were really well animated :)
Great sprites an animation =).
I really liked how much worse things got the more I had. Unfortunately, it got so bad after 2 that I killed myself with my own bubble, didn't manage to get three crystals :(. The one-hit kill was a bit rough -_-.
@dodormeur this is the most common complaint I've received. But if the player ran faster:
* He would be able to escape from enemies, which would remove all difficulty from the game * The time window between an enemy entering the screen and bumping into it would be too small, which would make it frustrating
So it isn't a trivial matter. Moving the camera towards the direction the player is facing could help, but was out of scope for the game.
Happy you like the animations, it was my first time making any!
Congratulations on finishing the jam!
I agree that the difficulty is a bit high. It's not impossible, but dying after having two crystals and having to start over isn't challenging but somehow frustrating.
I think that the simpler solution for this would be to give the player one or two lives before Game Over. Perhaps a Difficulty selector with Easy, Medium and Hard more.
I really like the graphics in this game! Both the graphics and the audio really help establish the mood. A couple things: The audio wasn't very loud, and I didn't even know that the game had sound until halfway through (I had my computer volume on a little above half). Also, I didn't know to press z at the menu to start or after death to respawn.
The main thing I am going to have to bring up is the controls. If you are running away from a monster, you can't fire at it! It's really annoying; as soon as you turn around, you lose. There's no way you can recover. If you made firing WASD instead, that would be a lot better. Then I could press UP to go away from a monster, say, but press S to fire at it. Then you could also add more enemies, and more difficult enemies. Otherwise the game basically got reduced to hiding along the walls and sniping.
I really like this game and hope that you keep developing it! You've got a cool retro game on your hands.
@conrad123 Thanks for the feedback! I've added a warning here on the game page regarding the audio.
This entry reminds me of an old DOS game
I liked how the wizards powers change with the more crystals you collect. Until I ran into one of my own "bubbles"... and died... that was a sad day. haha.
Cute and fairly fun.
I have a weak spot for lo-fi graphics like this, particularly when they are animated! That plus the monophonic music really gave this a nice game jammy indie zine-type feel.
The first time I died by running into an enemy. The second time I died by running into my own bullet...not great. I didn't have the patience to win. But I did have some fun!
Great death effect! Feels like an old school 32-bit game. nice job!!
Good Game, but the cave is a bit to big, because there is nothing to find or explore. You are creating negative possibility space by having dead ends where nothing can be found. Also dying by attacking once you found the 2 second piece felt really unfair. Nevertheless good and interesting game.
Instakilled myself with a bubble that takes four hits to kill a minor enemy. That's a nice game, I'd say.
I love the pixel art in this, the shading on the character's very nice! Only issue I had was that the enemies speed is the same as the player character ones which made for awkward situations where I'd run away from an enemy so close behind me that I couldn't stop and turn around to shoot him; a slight speed difference would've been good. Aside from that, it's a very cute little game!
Very good game!
Pretty cool game! It was a little bit annoying that the spell didn't fire instantly when you pressed fire, and when the monsters started chasing you, you were pretty much dead. The atmosphere and mood was good!
