LD46 — Keep it alive

Defenseless by Cocosar07 2020-04-21T21:08:33Z

I dig art and the idea of two friends camping and one being oblivious to his friends heroic deeds. Game-play is simple, but fun enough. I know the lack of sound was disclosed from the start, but it really could have benefited from sound effects for the bugs only even. Good job.

"IT" dies by PineappleGladiator 2020-04-21T21:41:37Z

I enjoyed this! You did a lot in a little bit of time! The tutorial part was maybe twice as long as required, but was the tower defense part finally kicked in I found myself really engaged. Nice work.

LD52 — Harvest

Harvest Hewn by bwalter 2023-01-13T02:49:13Z

This was delightful! Very impressive for doing in a weekend. The core loop is fun and juicy, the sounds, music and art are great. Clearly you only had a little bit of time do this, but I could TOTALLY see this game in an rpg/adventure form, where you explore caves and terrain in this manner. Great work!

Farm Island by Nikolaj 2023-01-13T04:38:38Z

That was fun. I tried I think 3 times. The controls are little hard to get used too, and found myself really wishing for d-pad input however; I realize that would make the challenge much less of a challenge. It was worth the play though, good work!

Heroes, Please by Quoclon 2023-01-11T23:43:37Z

It's like a Middle Earth Paper's Please! A simple concept, easy to learn, and didn't have any bugs. However; it is lacking in the fun department as the only real challenge is remembering 3 rules. But you completed it in a weekend! Good job.

Carrot: Journey to the Surface by DJTequila 2023-01-14T20:52:47Z

This was a fun play. I liked the arrow key specials! They felt good and the especially the drill down mechanic. You achieved a lot in little time. Excellent work!

Barn Busters by UnitedFailures 2023-01-14T20:43:07Z

Great game! My son and I got a lot of laughs and giggles out playing it. P.S. We used the same assets and used traps! However; yours were more fun. Great work!

Village of Plenty by p0l4r 2023-01-10T23:30:55Z

I really enjoyed the game! I played for a lot longer that I thought I might. I just got caught up in the flow.

Some notes on the good: - It took me a little bit to understand why I would buy some of the cards, however it wasnt that long before I figure it out and immediately got it into the flow. - The addition of the Forage card was perfect as it helps get out of those ruts where your input == output. - Wheat => Flour => Bakery feels nice and balanced.

On the bad: - None

Ways it could be improved: - A cap on pair count in the barns. Once you get going with animal pairs it gets out of control fast, mostly because- - Identical cards don't collapse, so you have 40 cards at the bottom of your screen it's hard to make out what card it is. - Honestly, I didn't want to stop playing and really wanted to expand the land available go the mogul route.

All in all, great work! Thank you!

Souls harvest by PlusMinus 2023-01-12T17:13:46Z

This was fun! Drawing cards while action is happening feels good. It was hard to notice sometimes whether the effects on the cards were being applied, and the first time I played the game, I simply clicked on the first card in the row and the game crashed, but overall its a fun game worth expanding on I think. Great work!

Christmas Carols by exofrenon 2023-01-13T03:24:44Z

This was an interesting play. I enjoyed trying to play Jingle Bells terribly as the input timing is pretty well calibrated. Some attempts of these rhythm games can be frustrating when the metronome for the song isn't accurate, but you nailed that. The art is also cute, the dialog and scene wipes are bit slow moving, but all-in-all its a good entry. Great work!

The Onion Quest by Dekajoo 2023-01-12T05:07:15Z

This game brought me back to when I was just a wee eggplant. Its fun, the art is cute, and while it may not be that balanced in regards to stats or whatever, I enjoyed it. Like others have mentioned, the complete lack of sound/music does feel like I'm in a vacuum. Some simple sounds can go a long way. Great work though and Havest!

Hotline Harvest by Skvader_418 2023-01-10T21:02:00Z

I had fun! Shooting wheat to collect it is kinda funny and I like that there is no depletion of ammo. The shop is a nice touch to keep the wheat collecting interesting. The only I found myself wishing for was a short break between waves versus one never-ending wave. Overall great job though.

Soul Trapper by Yahel Dooley 2023-01-09T21:54:34Z

If you are pressing Left Shift to pickup a trap, but it doesn't work, it's because its Left Alt...

Soul Trapper by Yahel Dooley 2023-01-10T23:35:52Z

@pinapl Thank you for the feedback! You were right! The LudumDare build had a light baking issue and the traps were still triggered by the player. I thought I had updated the LudumDare build with that fixed but it was the Itch.IO build does not have those issues. I corrected that issue here with the V1.1 build. Thanks for playing!

Soul Trapper by Yahel Dooley 2023-01-10T23:42:34Z

@meinewn Thank you for the feedback! I have not had this spawning issues, but seems to happen to everyone else (including my wife). I'll have to look into whether maybe the issue is multithread/coroutine related.

Soul Trapper by Yahel Dooley 2023-01-10T23:59:13Z

@nick-saulner Thank you for your feedback/playing!

Soul Trapper by Yahel Dooley 2023-01-12T00:58:22Z

@stephenwhoskins I didn't do the art! I only made the chicken circle, bear trap/animations.

Soul Trapper by Yahel Dooley 2023-01-12T02:56:31Z

@stephenwhoskins Thank you! You're game actually impressed me more. I was a big fan of Dejavu on the NES when I was a kid, and have considered making something inspired by it for years.

Soul Trapper by Yahel Dooley 2023-01-13T01:49:51Z

@jelliott Thank you! But did you have fun being eaten alive? Thats the important part :D

Soul Trapper by Yahel Dooley 2023-01-13T01:53:53Z

@cemkaanu Yeah, unfortunately the lightmaps took a poop right before I uploaded. I'm glad to hear the traps felt good! It was important for me to get that right. I also wanted to added coyote sounds and animation for the souls being collected too..Thank you for the feedback!

Soul Trapper by Yahel Dooley 2023-01-13T01:56:00Z

@silurus Yeah I should have given the tutorial part a little more of my time... as well as making the controls on the HUD more readable, but I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for playing!

Soul Trapper by Yahel Dooley 2023-01-13T04:44:50Z

@deadjolly Thank you for playing and that feedback! Adding some health pickups certainly crossed my mind, but due to time constraints I opted for just increasing the players HP, but you're right, health pickups would have been a better solution I think.

Soul Trapper by Yahel Dooley 2023-01-18T18:08:15Z

@blushingcrow Thank you and you're right! They are a little tricky, especially if you aren't using a gamepad. Thanks for playing!

Soul Trapper by Yahel Dooley 2023-01-20T04:56:29Z

@deprecat Thanks for playing and that helpful feedback! The flutter + platforming could be an excellent extension on the core loop!

Bop To The Chop by RTDMFN 2023-01-11T00:58:14Z

Its got a nice atmosphere and the music is nice. I do wish more of it, as chopping trees starts to feel like my finger has become a metronome.

Apple farm by Geo3D 2023-01-12T05:33:24Z

Pretty simple idea. There is not much of a game loop at the moment because the money only buys another tree, but clearly there was some effort put into it that is commendable. I think the balance would feel better if after collecting all of the apples from the first tree, it allowed you to either: - buy 2 trees - a tree that produces bigger or different fruit that either grows faster or is worth more.

I was a little bummed to discover my reward for collecting all of those apples was to simply do it again with an extra 4 dollars, but good work!

The Harvest by EpicGameFan 2023-01-12T00:16:24Z

I enjoyed it. I had a couple "aha" moments that were nice. Really nice work, especially considering the time allotted for it. The cursor speed was a tad slow for my taste, but everything else was well done. Good job!

SEED HUNTER by MFauzan 2023-01-12T05:12:43Z

This was interesting, I enjoyed playing it. The controls felt good, the art, sound effects and music are perfect. Growing your ammo is interesting idea and probably worth exploring more. Great work!

FERTILIZATION FRENZY by Nick Saulnier 2023-01-10T21:11:58Z

I really enjoyed playing this! Core loop, art, music, sound effects, everything was on point. Besides the admission about the code not resetting the scene upon failure, I really enjoyed it. I saw someone mention about having too much money, but I honestly think it's in the sweet spot. It made me excited to see it shooting up there. Great work everyone.

Those Gosh Darn Flies by FarawayDrip30 2023-01-10T20:46:28Z

There is something here that I do enjoy, as it's simple and doesn't require a lot of explanation to get going. Seeing the fruit of my labor is satisfying and there is a flow state that starts. However a few things break up the flow for me:

- Clicking the Trowel button to toggle whether you are digging or not starts to feel tedious. I think simply giving the dig action its own button (right click or spacebar) would solve it.

- The flies always move horizontal and their heights appear to be random, which doesn't leave much room to develop a strategy to avoid them. Since this is the case I think some vertical or even sine movement could help break up the repetitive movements.

Otherwise good job!

Combative Crops by AntonioTheReis 2023-01-13T02:23:11Z

I enjoyed this! The idea is a good one. I wish there was some audio though, I think it would have gone a long way.

There is certainly something further to explore with fighting what you sow! It might be worth exploring some elements of how deck builder board/card games work, in that you purchase a card that continues to come into play throughout the game. You could maybe try: - Sowing a creature/plant that continues to grow things everyday (to limit the amount of times you need to visit the store) potentially setting a lifetime for it so it doesn't last forever (if it's over-powered).

- The current pace was a tad slow at getting me into a flow state. One slime a day, doing the same loop to gain one coin feels a little unrewarding. I think if I started with enough funds to sow 2-3 slimes on Day One and collecting 3 coins the next day, would feel a bit better, even if you scaled the cost of a slime up to be the same amount comparatively. Overall good job though! And I hope you consider exploring it further!

The End Of The Art As We Know it by paci 2023-01-12T05:45:27Z

I really suck at this game lol. I played it twice and didn't do great. I guess I am not sure what the requested art description at the top left has to do with the actual art on the floor itself? Just flavor, or? The art and sound was fun, I'm not sure pushing around blocks on the floor got me that excited, but the experience of playing it as a whole was certainly entertaining. Good work!

Highway Harvester by deadjolly 2023-01-13T03:14:00Z

This was an interesting spin on Spy Hunter, that never ends! The art and music are nice, the gameplay itself was a little lackluster. I just stayed in one lane and kept shooting and nothing ever changed or challenged me.

I think some simple horizontal movement/lane changing or return fire would be the simplest way to add some complexity to it.

Kudos for finishing in one weekend and publishing!

"Neighborly Love" by seltzerfish 2023-01-10T21:28:26Z

This was really a treat. I really enjoy the gameplay and cutscenes were adorable. The only thing I found myself wanting was a short burst of speed to add a little strategy to avoiding the neighbor's tractor. Great work everyone!

Unhappy Beaver by Zidoolan 2023-01-12T05:22:39Z

That was an experience! A classic "shmup" with some funny, albeit super distracting voice effects lol. While the game has humor, the gameplay itself was a bit simple and stiff. It was your first submission and you completed it in a weekend though! Kudos!

Jumping Bean Harvester by therealjtgill 2023-01-10T21:40:32Z

The game is pretty challenging and certainly tested my patience. I can tell that a lot of work went into the logic of controller, and that alone under the time constraints is commendable. The core loop itself was a bit too frustrating for my liking, as even after managing to capture a bean, the vehicle could still simply drove over and past it. That said though, I do think that frustration could be solved by giving it a little "magnetic attraction" once you've grabbed a bean. Good work!

Carrot Season by Dacs 2023-01-14T20:09:17Z

The games was fun and I liked it. I couldn't quite figure out what the truck actually was doing lol. I think more of a waves approach would help it, instead of the constant onslaught, but overall its fun. Good work.

Esflora by TooSalty0000 2023-01-13T04:56:27Z

That was fun! Good sound, art and gameplay! I'm quite impressed you were able to put in solid tutorial with dialog over a weekend. Great work!
