LD48 — Deeper and deeper

INNER DEMONS by Wanooknox 2021-04-28T00:00:03Z

I liked it... the lasers going through the shields caught me off guard at first. Took a couple of tries to get the hang of it. It definitely takes some skill to used aim the curved shield to get the bullets to hit the enemy.

Changes I'd consider... zoom out... I found it too easy to move out of view of the enemy. Additions I'd suggest... add a health power up that gets emitted now and then to give me some longevity. Someone suggested using the button to turn on the shield... if some of the bullets were health packs (different colour) the left click could be used to temporary turn the shield off and let the health pack through.

Would/will play it again.

I Wanted A new Tower Defense Game by Lerc 2022-04-10T16:09:53Z

Good tower defense game. Graphics are well done. Game play is solid. I appreciated the time multiplier... it allowed me to speed to the next threshold of money I needed for the next defense.

As @martink mentions the amount earned per mob kill seems low but I found this to be okay as I used the multiplier a lot.

Overall I quite enjoyed this game and will play it again. Congrats on the great entry.

Carpentangle by Jimbly 2022-04-11T06:06:32Z

Good game but needs to find a more relevant theme. I liked the puzzle aspect... really liked the puzzle aspect. It is a nice different take on matching lines. The music and sound were fine and I like the fade out/in when you toggle the music... nice touch. Game play was interesting and challenging. Does not take long to catch on but takes a lot to get good or master.

However, plugging leaks in a ship... just did not work for me. It needs a different backstory... or even none at all... It's a puzzle game where you fill in the shapes before you run out of turns. It make the player develop a strategy, use the turns and mistakes wisely, keep an eye on the build up of large clusters, etc. It has a lot going for it as is... in my mind it does not need a back story such as you are fixing a boat.

Great little puzzle game and there are many aspects I like.. the high score board was a nice touch.

Push, Rethink, Undo, Repeat by RAC-Games 2022-04-05T05:59:41Z

Great puzzle game. First... thank you for the volume slider for the music. Music was okay but I dropped it to 25% almost immediately. The unlimited undo is very nice and the controls are easy to use (I played on keyboard). Puzzles where challenging and fun... good mix of easy, medium, and real thinkers, for levels. On one of the larger levels I would have appreciated being able to see more of the level... made a mistake and had to move around quite a bit before I realized. If I could have seen maybe 5 more grid vertically it would have likely allowed me to fix the error and squeak by. Fits the theme very well. Nice reto-style graphics. Fun to play (yes I like puzzle games). Will play again.

Farming until bankruptcy by atomicptr 2022-04-11T04:58:44Z

Nice farming game. I could not get past the 80K payment... Managed to get 76K and change. If I had not made mistakes on some moved I suppose I would have made the 80K but not sure how to make the 100K. One bug.. after bankruptcy if you start the game again the payment is at the next value (-100K in my case) until you make the first payment.

Okay the game... fun game, it is really about optimizing your moves to earning money. It is easy enough to figure out a pattern of moves to minimize the number of non-paying moves. I did not experiment too much with increasing the field size, increase productivity, etc. as I had a pattern down where the trees were ready for harvest again by the time I completed one cycle. Maybe I missed purchasing bufs that could have made it easier to get past 80 and 100K... but as the game says bankruptcy is inevitable.

Great LD entry. Love the monochrome graphics, simple sounds, etc. Fairly well balanced. Would love to see how this develops further.

Ghost In The Washing Machine by foxxy 2022-04-08T18:09:34Z

As others have said and I agree... very good comedy, cut scenes, and background sound effects. The typing minigame caught me at first... the shifting of hands to the home row and then back to wasd to move... but it became natural after the first couple of fixes. I ended with Rank C. I'm assuming rank A is the best. I was expecting to lose more... batteries run out or something. Would love to see an expanded game of this including other appliances, and more humorous running commentary. Overall very good, would play again, will be recommending it to others to try.

Get Out Me Dungeon! by BlooAlain 2022-04-10T05:13:44Z

Great concept... I love it when someone turns a classic game on end and gives the player a different perspective. Enjoyed playing the game would play again.

I would consider adding to the tutorial or descriptions an example battle resolution... I did not quite grasp the numbers the player had on each type of mob at the top... is this the amount of damage per attack the player does on the dungeon mob/trap? I could see the player was upgrading and could see the numbers increasing when they killed a particular mob (can you kill a trap?) but it was not clear how the outcome of an attack was calculated.

Graphics were great... sort of the 8-bit classic look, which I love, and the music is simple but also good. Long enough to not have the repetition get boring or on your nerves.

I like the suggestions of adding critical hits (or misses) against the player that is given in some of the other comments. Overall, great game and well executed.

Re: Placement by Outfrost 2022-04-05T05:17:27Z

Smooth movement, outstanding graphics, appropriate sounds. Was very hard to figure it out at first... how to get the parts to fit was hard to figure out. Learned it after playing a few games. It is really hard to see what the slots on the back of the assembly looks like... Maybe raise the camera angle some? Or allow the chasis to rotate 180 degrees?

This is a great game to play after you have played it several times and gotten past the frustration of trying to figure out how to get the parts to fit. Tweak the issue of seeing the slots on the far side and it will be even better.

Battery Low by Milestone Games 2022-04-05T05:35:04Z

Okay I really like this game... and the fake loss at the end after getting all the science object caught me... like... ooooh, sigh, wait... YES! Would I play it one more time... No, several more times. The UI is great, I loved the faded tracks the show where I have been from attempt to attempt... that acted as a helper and was appreciated both from a game play and from a game design point of view. The minimap with the hint on the last item to go was a nice touch also.

The only low rating I felt I had to give was on the theme. It seems there is a way to win after all... you can collect all the science object if you try hard enough... to me it made it seem that I had won. But my interpretation of the theme is that losing is inevitable. In this case it is the death of the robot that is inevitable... but you can win before it dies if you help it successfully complete the mission.

Ignoring my take on the theme slip-up this is a great game and deserves more visibility.

Uranium by Simpathey 2022-04-05T04:36:55Z

Interesting game... unique idea. Very hard to keep it going but I was using keyboard...controller *may* be easier. I like the graphics, music and game play. Took me a moment to catch on but ya I'd keep playing it. Congrats on the great game.

Down with the Ship! by Yellowscope 2022-04-10T04:12:00Z

Played a couple of times and found a bug that made it easy to get all of the crew away safely... go full screen on a 4K monitor. When I did this the incoming missiles disappear before hitting the ship and my missiles disappear before hitting any enemy ships. Once all 40 pods were away I then hit escape to get out of full screen and died pretty quickly.

Untitled.png

Okay thoughts about the game... music is very fitting and sets the mood. I'd like to see it either longer or switch between a couple of similar tracks. With the current length I find it repeats too often. The graphics are good and appropriate... adding more ship detail in the future would give more interest. Also for some reason I did not catch on that the objects firing out the bottom were escape pods until later in the game when I had time to look around (in full screen). Not sure if a sound or something would clarify that, or maybe a countdown to the next escape pod. The ships and missiles scaled well to the different monitor sizes.

As someone else mentioned the enemy patterns are quickly learned... maybe this is a good thing since it is balanced with the slow speed of the turret and the limited number of missiles... and typical games are likely short due to the number of enemy ships and incoming missiles. I'd consider randomizing the entry of the enemy ships a bit though.

Overall... a good game that I enjoyed playing. Would like to see it expanded beyond the game jam and more features added.

Keep it Secret by Zettabit 2022-04-05T05:01:44Z

I agree with others... great take on the theme and the subject... stopping the spread of gossip... is very cool.

Good humour with both the sounds of the employees gossiping. Fun to play and watch others play. Not sure about all the ways one can lose reputation though.

a by mdnr 2022-04-05T02:14:46Z

Okay I played this game far far too long... partially because of the music (which will be in my head for days now, thank you...I think that is a good thing) and partially because I was trying to prove that I would eventually lose... I did with over 17,000 sand having dropped (did not catch the final number as it ended).

The one change I would make immediately is the game over screen... tell me how many grains of sand dropped... PLEASE. Yes I cashed out with $459M. But is that the amount I had at the time of losing or the total amount earned over the game?? I swear I had about that much when I lost as I was saving towards another debuf and need 2.5 Billion!!

Ya I like the game. The time multiplier, the music, the constant challenge to keep the game stabilized is what kept me engaged. Over all this one surprised me. At the start I was not sure if I'd get into it, glad I kept going.

Bar Up! by realicraft 2022-04-10T04:41:06Z

I think others have covered the bit about being unfinished. It would help if it was explained in the description what was trying to be accomplished. That way we could judge it on the intentions also.

Graphics were straight forward and good. Not sure what the items are that give the negative sound and subtract time but one quickly learns to avoid them. Moving and collecting the 3 good items works well, the background was interesting. I'd be curious to see this game again when more is complete including the upgrades.

It seems to have potential to be fun and easy to pick up. Keep working on it and good effort so far.

Tick Tock by Mandytoh 2022-04-05T01:04:47Z

I'm mirroring much of what others have said... Graphics, sound, and mood where great. Mouse feedback of some sort would really enhance player interaction. I could not tell how my clicking on things had any affect on the game except that it caused the character to move in that direction. I liked the variable speed clock ticking... that is unique and interesting. If I could tell which of my clicking actions resulted in the clock slowing down and which, if any, resulted in the character speaking then gameplay would be much better.

Congrats on the submission.

The Fastest RPG by DaylonWilkins 2022-04-10T04:27:58Z

Played the web version. Interesting idea. I want to like this game but I couldn't pick up on the meaning of all of the icons on the enemies and how they related to which attacks I should use. I also had difficulty figuring out what to do when the second screenshot above (new attack) would show up. Finally figured it out after a few games that you select which slot you want to trade out. My difficulties were nothing that could not be solved by more detailed instructions that explain the UI in more detail. I lost a lot of games of course. :-) I also really was not clear on how playing quickly improved my outcome in the game... perhaps some visual clues of what delaying or playing slow causes would help.

I do like the game and the genre and I think this one has a lot of potential to be addictive.

Holy Ship by jamjamix 2022-04-11T03:54:03Z

Like someone mentioned previously, it would much improve the game if the mouse was locked to the game screen. I was continually fighting to bring my mouse back to control the camera. when I went full screen the game did not react well, so that was not an option.. 4K monitor may have something to do with it. I wonder what it would be like if the camera was simply locked behind the player (third person view)?

Other than that... a lot of elements to like... the graphics are great, the music and sounds very appropriate and keep you engaged. Running around patching leaks and drinking kept me busy enough not to be able to explore the other aspects too much. Bailing worked but fitting with the theme I could not keep up... lol.

The one other place I had difficulty with is that as the ship got deeper into the water I could not visually locate the leaks. Not sure how I kept missing them but maybe a better visual clue when the ship is low in the water.

Overall great game and great job.

Delay The Asteroid by Techsposure 2022-04-11T05:37:13Z

A good start to a game. The basic mechanics are done but now more needs to be put into game play... there is a lot of potential.. - increasing the mass of the asteroid - decreasing the number of fired bullets and therefore you have to fire more often - give score bonuses for keeping the asteroid on the screen - set up proximity zones on the screen that change the score multiplier while the asteroid is in them

As it is the "game" is very repetitive and accept for falling asleep one can get the interval of firing bullets down to a pattern so you will never lose. I went until 10 minutes and then gave up.

The background music is a good match, actually used it to set my timing. The graphics are very simple (layers of the same shape in different colours) but it works. This has the potential to be a great little game... keep going on it and good luck.

Jupiter Station - v0.5 by Kyra Sanchez 2022-04-07T00:11:21Z

Interesting concept and I really like the card playing / hand building aspects. It took a bit for me to catch on to what exactly was happening... only played two games but bookmarking to play more.

Was not sure I would like it a first but it is quite intriguing and I quickly wanted to explore how the ship stats worked how things were affected and how to develop a good strategy to last longer. I'm looking forward to seeing this game developed further post game jam.

Time Dash by Agyrzstar 2022-04-08T17:55:46Z

Nice clean implementation. I would have loved to have controller support for this... maybe there is as I have a Logitech Dual Action and noticed the left stick moved the player but nothing else caused a reaction. Played several games using keyboard mouse. Fun little game, simple but effective mechanics. Was challenging enough for me. Not sure how it will be to play over and over... maybe there are further challenges higher up. Certainly I don't think I discovered all of the collectable items.

Overall I also enjoyed playing it.
