It was a fun experience to play it
I really like this game. At first I was confused but then it clicked and I couldn't stop!
You really get a sense of urgency here with the never ending encroaching fire and I love that. Good polish and fun to play. Great work!
Nice game with fun mechanics and amazing art.
Very nice! Good graphics and satisfying feeling when harvesting, building and stopping the fire. Managed to get to 21239 on third attempt. Love that Wilhelm Scream. :D
My idea was also about stopping an exponentially growing fire so feel free to check it out if you want to see a different take on the concept.
Anyway, great job and good take on the theme!
I'm a sucker for construction games and this was amazing =D
Love the game! Interesting idea, funny realisation))
I really like the controls, and sound fx. One thing I might add in a post jam build is to have an ability to place multiple fences at once. I think also some kind of tick or counter would help the player better dodge fire.
5 star in humor for the wilhelm scream!!! XD
The friking scream was the best one! haha, this is great funny game, it is stressful but easy to understand and control, the art and sounds are fantastic, great work! :v:
Really cute graphics. The gameplay was a bit confusing at first but when you get the hang of it, it's really fun. I think a pixel font could be better in the UI.
This was really nice. The gameplay are simple but very effective!
That was a fun fast-paced game! The placement of the blocks was antagonistic for me, but I think there may be a point to that in a game about trying to delay forest fires!
I found myself just "playing" the game instead of trying to analyze it for a bit, which I think means huge success. :D
Well done!
Yay! I saw this on Simpathey's stream and forgot to play it. Really well done guys! Fits the theme super well and the runs are short enough that I keep going "I can do one more, I can do better". Game jam aside this is just a fun little game that's put together super well. Great job everyone.
Fun game! really keeps you on your toes, harvesting, building and trying not to get burned.
One piece of feedback would be to put the controls on the Title Screen before you start playing. The first time I played I was so focused I didn't see the info on the side, and wouldn't have time to read it anyways with how fast things start.
Nice game! In some situations the movement was a bit buggy. The instant death is fitting but a bit sudden in combination with the discrete map movement. +1 Humor for the Wilhelm scream as well!
Hard game, but the short length let me play through a couple of times. I liked the pixel art and the gameplay was very unique. Constructive feedback: placing the barriers accurately with the keyboard was hard to do in a pinch. I would have preferred to just click with my mouse.
Fun game. But it become too easy when I know how to play. I want to see some new thing, but nothing comes. Maybe the tree can burn(but need two turn) can make the game harder.
I like the consept and graphics. But I found a strategy where if you collect a lot of materials in the beginning and make a complete wall across the entire screen, you can collect enough materials to make another one by the time the wall of barriers has reached the top and has been destroyed. But other than that I would say its a good jam entry :)
It's a hard game and it took me a while to understand what is going on. I like to play the game before I read the manual to see if I need it. What I like is the movement that felt quick and snappy.
trying to guess the right strategy is fun, that's a great dynamic to have in a game. Good job
I had tons of fun being burned alive multiple times! It was simple enough yet challenging. Great submission.
cool basic concept that goes a long way, some player animation would be a great addition though.
funny death sound, nice movement, simple but fun gameplay loop
would be nice to have a tutorial before im thrown in i need my handholding
i feel like the game is too hard right off the bat (im very bad at this game if you couldnt tell lol)
walk animations and some effects when collecting would be nice but i understand that that's hard to do in 72 hours it also feels like the grid isnt necessary and kind of takes away from the graphics
placing barriers where you want to is a bit challenging
verdict: some polishing & balancing tweaks and this could be an excellent mobile game :D
I had a lot of fun playing this game. The music was fitting with the fast beat to heighten the sense of urgency. I keep finding myself trying again to give different strategies a try. I think this game gave a good amount of challenge paired with the sense that it always seems like it would have been possible for me to make it further.
The one thing that felt off to me was the player movement. I feel like if each resource can only occupy a single tile, and the fire can only occupy a single tile. I expected the player to only move in whole tile increments. Most of my deaths were caused because I wasn't quite precise enough and a little bit of my head was sticking in to a tile it shouldn't have been but, maybe that just because I am bad at games.
Thanks for this game it was a ton of fun... I think I might play it between 1 and 10 more times before I move on to another game.
I like what you did with the theme.
i was able to survive for quite a while! i thought that with my strategy that i could play indefinitely but it seems like it gets more difficult over time. i'm happy to see that! overall a solid entry 👍

The idea of this game is simple and great. I somewhat had this feeling of "just one more game". But I could have it even more with some UI improvements.
As @Yellowscope said, the game is tile-based, so the movements should also be tile-based. The hero should occupy only one tile. When I press a key, the hero should move exactly one tile in the specified direction. For the difficulty balancing, you could add a little movement cooldown between each moves, if needed.
Sometimes, my position is exactly between two tiles. When I hit the space bar, the resource is not taken, and I stay blocked.

The problem is solved by just going a little up or down. But in the urge of building barriers and evading fire, I have no time to handle these movement glitches. These glitches would solve themselves if the game was entirely tile-based.
It's hard to lay barriers where I want to. The barrier is put in the direction I'm facing. Usually, I place barrier between me and the fire. So I have to move slightly toward the fire. Sometimes, this little move makes me step on the next tile, and exactly at the same time, a fire is generated on that tile and I die. Laying barriers should be done by pressing the "B" key + the direction key where I want to lay it. So that i don't need to make a slight move. This problem is more or less related to the not-entirely-tile-based thing.
The fire spreads quite rapidly, which is a choice of difficulty that I have to deal with. But the fire spreads without any warning. Very often I was at a distance of one or two tiles of the fire, and it immediatly spread to the tiles where I am. It's rather frustrating, it gaves me the feeling I died because of unluck and randomness, not because of lack of attention. Maybe, some seconds before the fire propagates to a new tile, you should show little harmless flames on the tile. So that I know I have to quickly go away of it.
Speaking of fire, does it spread diagonally ? It seems so, but I'm not sure, as it's really fast for me.
The sound is great, and we all love Whilhelm sound. But the sound played when a barrier is laid is too long. Hammering noises that lasts about 2/3 seconds, whereas we sometimes lay more than one barrier in one second. It sounds weird and it can break the concentration.
The score calculation is well-thought. It is quite simple to understand, but it can provoke an "emerging behavior", where we are driven to contain fire as much as we can, to have more clean tiles that generate points, instead of just running away to survive as long as we can.
All right... Just one more game, even if the movements are unpractical... See you next time !
Interesting concept. I have not had one in the form, which always pleases me to learn new. Great work :)
Great concept, I liked it a lot. I think it would have been better with mouse controls for keyboard, as in placing barriers around you, but the directional controls certainly made it difficult. Nice work.
