LD46 — Keep it alive

Trollwoods by zondarg 2020-04-22T13:43:35Z

Really like the concept and the art and humor are both great (I really like the conversation about how the music is the same the whole night). The gameplay felt a little slow. I found myself waiting for a few minutes between each run for wood. I think there are two ways to fix this: either make it so that time passes and the fire depletes faster, or add more objectives. One thing I thought was, if light seems to scare the trolls away, why doesn't my flashlight scare them away? Maybe that could be part of the objective: there are places in the campsite where shadows block out the fire's light, so you must shine your own light to protect these places.

Pupper Truckers by tweedle 2020-04-22T14:10:13Z

Loved the humor and art and I can really see the potential in the gameplay. The only thing that really bothers me is how it's hard to tell how the upgrade system works. Other than that an amazing game! Love to see something like this coming out of KC!

Sheep Sheep Halloumi by Dining Philosopher 2020-04-21T13:43:32Z

So cute! Really fun to play! Could definitely see myself pulling this up to de-stress when I have only a few minutes to play

Nortan Antivirus by Cambryx 2020-04-21T14:52:26Z

Very intuitive and fun! Love all the little visual details. The only things I can say are that the music loop could be improved and that it would be neat to see more features added to the game to keep the gameplay loop from getting to repetitive.

ORB by blaster391 2020-04-21T18:30:07Z

Very fun and unique! The only major problem I have is that the controls aren't very intuitive. I think switching the pick up/put down button with the shop button would help a bit. I feel like making it so there's only one strength of push and pull would also help, especially since the lighter options seem kind of useless.

Bear Naked Polar Party by stuckne1 2020-04-25T21:41:26Z

Very clever spin on the theme. It's a bit confusing how everything you can do affects the hype meter, but it's fun to just see what each action does visually and audibly.

Tracer by ctrble 2020-04-21T15:03:36Z

Love the atmosphere!

My Pet Tulsi by Flash22 2020-04-21T14:28:29Z

I generally enjoyed the game and was really happy to save Tulsi. I think some of the color choices could've been a bit more intuitive and some definitely needed to have higher contrast (minerals and ions especially). Taking people with color blindness and those with other difficulties telling colors apart, it might have just been a better idea to center the challenge around something else. I think similar pictures with noticeable differences (but not so noticeable you'll always catch them in a few seconds) would generally work better, but I can see how it would be hard to make the good and bad things look alike.

Charge it! by TwistedHawk 2020-04-21T14:32:37Z

@zondarg I know. I worked really hard to get a hud going. It worked just fine in testing, but for some reason it didn't make it in when the game got exported :slight_frown: Glad to hear you like the music though! @gablue worked really hard up until the last hour to get everything just right (and I think he's still not satisfied with it)

Charge it! by TwistedHawk 2020-04-22T13:47:37Z

@tweedle This is definitely a game I want to continue working on, but I definitely want to use a different engine for it. I'm pretty new to game development, and rpgmaker was all I had experience with to make this game, but it's a really limited and bizarre engine that makes it difficult to make really unique games. I'm thinking in the future I'd like to use gamemaker or Unity.

Charge it! by TwistedHawk 2020-04-26T22:39:45Z

@drumgadget-433 Oh, I have heard of Sweet Home! That's one of the games that's supposed to have inspired Resident Evil, which is kind of funny because RE is what I kept thinking of when I was designing the map. Anyway, I'm glad you like it. I'm planning on doing some more work on it to work out the kinks and flesh it out for something that could be a full release.

Defend Pangolin Eggs by MightyCode 2020-04-21T15:51:14Z

Love pangolins and love tower defence games, and this one was decently fun for me. That being said, there seem to be a few significant problems.

There doesn't seem to be a reason to buy anything other than the basic rocket turret until you get to the point that you have to place them so far back that they're not in range, since nothing else does enough damage to make up for its cost. Mines should do a lot more damage, since they're one time use. The high caliber turret fires so slowly that it only ends up being half as effective as the basic rocket while costing twice the price.

I think it would be better in level 2 if the first few waves alternated which side they were on. It may be a little annoying for someone who's new to tower defence to place everything on one side, only to find there was a second side, but since it's early in the level, this wouldn't be too frustrating, as they could quickly try again without losing much progress.

The sides seem to be uneven on level 2, which isn't too much of a problem, except that one side definitely ends up with a lot less turret space than the other. Uneven terrain mixes things up, but take care not to let this make one side weaker without making the parts of the waves that go to that side weaker as well.

Doing as much damage as I think was possible, it was still impossible to destroy the enemies on waves 25 and 26 of level 2. It would be very unfortunate for a player to have lost 2 eggs a lot earlier, and get to the end only to end up losing arbitrarily. Moreover, I think going from introducing that tanky of an enemy to having two of them show up (with the sides being uneven) is not really fun. It would've been more fun if one side got the tanky enemy, while the other side got just a huge hoarde of enemies.

Tree of Life by noneegy 2020-04-22T13:57:50Z

Fun concept. A little buggy as others have said (I mostly had problems with hitboxes). Overall an amazing game for your first attempt! Keep up the good work.

Keep the Party Alive! (Solo project) by Alexander Crane 2020-04-21T14:56:51Z

Very cute and a nice, tight gameplay loop. Love being bananaman! I know you're tired of hearing about the camera, but I think the problem of it being inverted isn't so bad. The sensitivity is the thing that makes it really tough to deal with.

Keep the Dream Alive! by DrumGadget_433 2020-04-24T15:27:04Z

Great music, art, and writing! Even as someone who normally doesn't like baseball games, I can say this was really fun too!

Meal to Kill by spidamoo 2020-04-21T14:10:08Z

Very fun and easy to understand, and great humor! Love the fact that it's in multiple languages!

Rabbit Ears by dry-squid 2020-04-21T15:01:23Z

Definitely fun, and I love the ambience. One thing I'd note is that it would be nice if it was a little easier to find your way back to the den, but I guess that getting a little lost kind of adds to the foreboding mood, and it's a small enough map that it's not really a problem.

A 90s Game! by John Snyder 2020-04-21T14:44:49Z

So cute and fun! I love that you defeat the bad guys with hugs, very wholesome! and that game over screen is literally fire!

EXTREME Garden Simulator by VectorWolf 2020-04-25T16:22:23Z

Difficult, but also very fun. I just wish I had someone to try out the multiplayer with.

Feed The Slime by PythooonUser 2020-04-21T18:21:17Z

Love the sound effects and the ending! Very charming!

The Genie of Light by Wilko 2020-04-21T15:15:39Z

Very fun and challenging. It would be nice if there was a way to deal with the traps other than just activating them and hoping for the best.

Feed The Monster by Svalinn85 2020-04-22T13:27:13Z

I love the art style and humor. I would love to see more occupational hazards. I thought the death screen when you fall into the pit was very clever and it would be great to see what you can come up with for other death screens.

Snowball's Day In by Anthony Pengelly 2020-04-25T16:13:32Z

Funny and cool game with great art and audio. Seems like there might be a glitch on the web version where the food meter just will not go up.

shopalypse by Keravon 2020-04-22T13:15:49Z

Really well done and unique. Produce is a bit overpowered. I feel like the meats and breads should give you a lot more days of survival. They may not be healthier, but they definitely keep longer and feed more. But those are really small nitpicks. It's a fun game overall.

Keep the Dark Lord alive by Heho 2020-04-21T13:54:05Z

Love the concept, but it's very difficult to get potions to land on the dark lord. Maybe their splash radius could be increased? healing also seemed a bit buggy. Most of the time the commands I entered wouldn't register, and the dark lord never healed. Playing on Windows if that helps with troubleshooting.

Feed The Fire by Nuanda79 2020-04-21T18:16:15Z

I like the humor with some of the objects you can find, but the recharging the flashlight mechanic felt a bit more annoying than fun. Maybe it would be better to make it so you have to move your mouse to a certain spot to recharge it?
