okay.... This wasnt really much of a game yet, but I liked where it was going. Here goes. The Good - Tower defense with sending out resources being the method of gaining funds. Neat. The Bad - Graphics where nonexistent, as was gameplay and challenge. It took me a second to figure out how to place towers. The Ugly - Why would you ever mix reggae and house music? Where you just trying to piss me off?
okay.... So, The Good - Random island generation was perfect. The islands looked awesome, and the procedure to generate them ran instantly and did the job damned well. The Bad - Gameplay was basically non-existent. The Ugly - People are 1 pixel dots, making it utterly unplayable (moreso) on a high resolution. The Boat moved painfully slow. I occasionally spawned on an island and couldn't move. Utterly unclear on what the point of this was (pick people up?)
Well umm... that friggin sucked. That being said.... The Good - EXCELLENT use of theme, great graphics, decent use of sound, tho minimalist, kind of almost fun to play... kind of burned to look at... The Bad - kind of burned to look at, terrible use of theme... The Ugly - the theme.
That was kinda fun, actually. The Good - graphics did the job, everything scanned well, puzzles where fairly fun. The Bad - tapping a direction to move, holding down a key would have been better, took me a while to figure out what I supposed to do. The Ugly - total lack of sound... booooh.
I won, omg! So, the good - Graphics where simple, but worked pretty well. Controls where relativity intuitive, The title screen looked nice, level pacing and difficulty increase was dead on. the bad - Totally by the books game-play. You score an n/a in innovation. I also didnt realize the clouds where moving at first due to scrolling everything but the water. It looked like I just arbitrarily started floating. Didnt help matters that the clouds moved or didnt move totally dependent on the level, so I had no way of predicting what was going on. the ugly - well, nothing was outright ugly. Im a little unclear on what the player was. Was he an island? Did this game even use the island theme? Those floating blocks could have been pretty much anything... (I mean, they did LOOK like islands, but then they sank for some reason, and where mostly floating in the sky...)
Okay. Its timeeeee The Good - Graphics where charming as all hell. I loved the use of the theme as well, and the audio was sparse, but AWESOME! Did you just record yourself making cannon noises? SWEET! Totally went along with the bathtub theme, this took me back to being 6 and playing with toy boats in the bath. I approve. I dug the mini map powerup too. The Bad - lacking in overall gameplay. Part of that could just be that Im on a laptop, so it was kinda annoying mouse aiming, but the gameplay was overall pretty simple. The Ugly - nope, this game was gorgeous in every way. A+ on presentation.
... The Good - ... umm... err.... it used the theme? The Bad - STALL WARNING! STALL WARNING! CRASH! There was nothing I could seem to do in this game other then die. The Ugly - spritework. Single frame sprites with no detail, and rotation. Great. Flixel pretty much did everything for you. The tiles where pretty much nonexistent too. The audio actually was nonexistent. SFXR would have gone a long way. This was kind of brutal, sorry.
Damn worms. I really liked that once I made some sense of it, very alien feeling. Unfortunately, when I found the palmawhateverthingy to worship, on of my islands had died T_T... Still, pretty rad.
well, its a start. The Good - graphics looked good, interface read well. Its a nice start. The Bad - its... and rts with no objective? You put alot of cool stuff in this, but its lacking any of the things it would need to actually be a game. The ugly - no, this was actually rather pretty, just not much going on.
kay.... I seem to have come up with a quick system of reviewing things, inspired by spaghetti westerns. The good - The soundtrack was rather nice, super minimalist, but it worked really well with the game. The Graphics where kind of the same way. Minimalist, and not astounding, but they worked (almost) perfectly. The Bad - Controls where almost to responsive. I had to re do so many jumps just because I moved ever so slightly to fast, or wall jumped slightly to high or low. It got kinda aggravating. The Ugly - so umm... your trails where backwards. Why?
All in all, it was pretty good, although slightly heavy handed. I couldnt decide if I liked the narration, or hated it, honestly. Good message to the game overall, but the heavy handed presentation detracted from it. I also thought you where going for the copout that he was dead and the island was purgatory, so Im glad you shied away from that option (as it would have basically been the final straw and tipped me into hating the dialogue.)
Neat. Okay, on with the by the numbers commentary. The good - graphics like wow. This game was gorgeous. Where the islands randomly generated? There's no source, so I have no idea. The bad - simple gameplay, frequently got killed from behind by enemies that didnt seem to exist a second ago. The Ugly - nope, it was pretty. Sound was minimal, but what was there worked.
Game wasnt properly linked... whatever. The Good - Totally awesome island rising/sea level dropping thing. It worked, it was intuitive. The Bad - nothing else really worked. My score whent up for no reason whatsoever, I got stuck on islands, the ships controls where not nearly responsive enough for how fast it moved. The Ugly - total lack of sound. Cmon man, sfxr has existed for how long? You also didnt link the game so I had to dig around in your posts, fortunately there weren't that many. Also, why am I saving starfish? How the hell do I win? WTF?
Huh, I actually really like that. The Good - Water pseudo-physics where awesome. Tight controls, good music, appropriate sound fx. Death sound was charming. The Bad - nothing really. Could have used more levels, and maybe an encouragement for speedruns or jumping really high or something, just so it wasnt jump left, okay, wait a second for the water to chill out, jump left again. Whats that your done? Jump right. Lather rinse repeat. The Ugly - programmer art. It was actually kind of charming tho, so Im not scoring you down for it.
First off, hi cai! I gave you a 2 in community despite you not having any posts on LD, largely due to how awesome you are in the flixel community (If I was just rating that you would have gotten a 5 fo shizzle.) This is zez, btw.
Allright, stuff. The Good - Its pretttttyyyyy. The atmosphere was awesome, sound was great. I really dug how you used collide to generate islands, and the reflection effect on the water was an awesome touch. I also dug how plants grew when they got wet, really nicely done. The Bad - well... this wasn't really a game, now was it? It would have been pretty awesome as background stuff in a game, you could use it to randomly generate the levels and have them mutate over time due to weather effects. That would have been tight. There really is a lot of potential here, it just isnt reached. The Ugly - You really should have set the bounding box on the trees better. I know its tricky to do when you are using scale, but currently its possible to make trees that float in mid air, and that totally ruins the feel of this game. Still, all in all, it was pretty rad, despite not being a game.
Neat. This was kindaa fun. The Good - robots where super cute, tiles looked fine, I liked the way the shots slowly destroyed the island. The Bad - Death doesnt seem to matter, I wasnt sure what I was doing, enemy robots and the giant shot both dont seem to kill you.... The Ugly - that giant... thing? at the top of the screen? I dunno what it was really, some sort of space station? The half assed pillow shading on it kinda killed the overall graphical feel tho...
Huh. Cool. Not really theme appropriate, at all, but cool. The Good - Evolution mechanic was awesome. Im a little unclear on what the tuxedo and the turtle shell did, and it would have been neat to have more evolutions. It DID make for a neat potential metroidvania if you ever finish it tho. The Bad - Well... this wasnt much of a game. It also didnt have much to do with islands (I mean, I guess it was on an island. The Ugly - almost total lack of audio. The little bit of audio there was, was clearly made with a single click in sfxr. All in all, kinda neat. Ima look at your source, despite the fact that I dont hate myself, mostly because I want to see what you did for the player evolving graphics. I have a theory you just made him in multiple parts and loaded different graphics when he evolved, but I want to see if you came up with something better then that.
what? huh? Where? You dont say? This game had all the fun of talking to an alcoholic in the midst of a binder. So you know, a little bit, but mostly just confusion. The Good - neat gameplay mechanic, cute graphics, for some reason. The Bad - WTF IS GOING ON? I cant do anything but turn things red and cry. The Ugly - nothing really, this game was cute... but umm... what?
huh. weird. The Good - controls where innovative as hell and well implemented. You get 5 stars on innovation. The Bad - there... isnt really a game here. You die super fast, and there is next to nothing to do in the game. also, it generates infinite vectors then crashes when you die. The Ugly - this game, basically. Total lack of presentation. Thats not really a big deal, programmer art is allowed, and even expected, and I understand you didnt have much time, but all the same I cant give you high marks on graphics either.
Tehee. That was cute. Nothing new, but well done. The Good - Graphics where, for the most part, good looking, audio felt appropriate, and the level design was mostly pretty rad. I also liked the lack of consequence for dying, that was good considering... The Bad - Leaps of faith frequently ended in death, except for the times they ended in orbs, or switches.... groan. The Ugly - Rotated sprites had terribly anti aliasing. Im sure that was just because of the program you used, and I am guilty of using rotation to save time too, but god that looked bad.
Okay... so. The Good - the music was well done, You made alot of feeling with just a few notes and midi. The Bad - Gameplay. This really wasnt verry fun. It was painfully easy despite there being moments when I took damage due to no real fault of my own. The Ugly - when you get near the treasure, a new song starts playing, but there is no fade, and the old one keeps playing, so you end up with two simultaneous soundtracks that are totally out of synch with eachother. I like dissonance when its done well, but that was just annoying.
kay.... The Good - Graphics where mostly good. The title screen and explanation was awesome, felt like a b-movie, and Im always for pretty girls looking terrified of giant monsters. The monster... was well drawn. Ill get into the monster more later. Also, you have a good moniker, so that's cool. The Bad - Gameplay was nonexistent. Straight up. There was no game here, I moved left, sometimes I hit spacebar to crush a car. I couldnt even climb and destroy buildings, or eat people. I was really hoping for a rampage knockoff, and instead just hit left for awhile. The Ugly - First off, the monster was just a penis with legs and gills. I dont know about you, but Im not that scared of a wang. I mean, I guess the size was a little bit intimidating. My cock is nowhere near the size of a skyscraper, so I guess I should have feared being emasculated? The sound... might fall under good and might fall under ugly. I flip flopped on it. I liked that you actually bothered recording audio for it, and it sounded thoroughly cheesy. Thats a good thing, helped the feel. That being said, it got old, fast. It was also sampled fairly poorly and ofsuch had a bit of feedback on it that kind of hurt my head. I probably wouldnt have noticed that last part if I wasnt an audio engineer though, so Im giving you 3 in sound.
Well, okay... not bad. The Good - Light effect looked awesome, the soundtrack was pretty good, although utterly minimal. The Bad - Steep difficulty, shaking the flashlight was mostly annoying. The Ugle - graphics lookeed... yeah. They might have been passable without the rotation messing everything up, but I cant really say.
fun. Okayyyy... sooo The Good - good pathfinding, intuitive gampeplay, graphics worked well, randomly generated islands worked well. The Bad - kind of boring pacing, little risk involved.
... ugh. Okay, here goes. The Good - umm... not that many people made trading games? Everything worked fine. The pictures of people where kinda cute. The bad - clunky controls, boring as hell to play. The Ugly - spritework. Lack of audio. Total lack of innovation.
It should be noted that Im not really that into trading games, so this review may be unnecessarily brutal. I also got frustrated by silverlight crashing my computer on install, but thats not really your fault (although it definitely made me a little aggravated by the time I started playing this.)
Neat idea... ummm... The Good - Interesting idea, good looking water effect... The Bad - There wasnt an island, or gameplay... this was really boring. The Ugly - the windsurfboard looked like a sailboat... also there wasnt a person on it... also umm...
