LD44 — Your life is currency

Assault on Crown Archipelago by aurel 2019-05-07T01:27:32Z

I really like the story-telling of this game! (as in, I like how you just wake up in a cove next to a giant pile of grog XD) My favorite parts of this game were the harpoon gun(although it was glitchy and hard to use sometimes, but at least it was cooler and better than the other weapons) and collecting the coins. The puzzles were really confusing and THE NIGHTMARE HORROR MONKEYS SCARED ME SO BAD. It was supposed to be a pirate duel/battle kind of feel but my experience was HORROR MONKEY NIGHTMARE FUEL whenever the monkeys spawned BY THE MILLIONS so it made it even worse for me xD But the only island where it wasn't bad for me imo was the one where there were monkeys out in the open so I could see them in the world and the waves of monkeys spawned them in less amounts.

The harpoon gun is love, the harpoon is life. It was so nice to use both as a weapon and as a way to parkour. Although some parts were strange (I had to jump weirdly/awkwardly to parkour well). The hitbox on the harpoon can be strange sometimes. I would suggest when you spawn monkeys in waves, put an extra wave in front where there's a few monkeys, and then ramp up to the millions of monkeys (player expectation and all). The island map grayed out areas makes people think they should go there, but they can't. I love the little graphics all around the room of the pirate ship. Very homey and wholesome.

I think there should be a quick-travel button on the map that just teleports you back onto your ship (as long as you're outside of combat). The water shaders look REALLY GOOD however it kinda clashes with the rest of the game which is darker and broodier. I really enjoy the water shaders. Very nice game! Lots of content for a ludum jam game. In fact I think it was because the map editor code was re-used, you were able to have a game with so much content. But it's fine, I'm pretty sure if you were seriously trying to win the jam(which has no prize money anyway) you'd have a lot more reviews! Good luck with your game!

GARUA by dietzribi 2019-05-05T09:06:02Z

The controls and the movement was very satisfying! I loved jumping around and swinging my sword and sliding everywhere. It felt really awesome! The combat for me quickly just devolved into running through their attacks and spam hitting them with my sword until I won. not saying to make it harder, just saying maybe the combat mechanics could be tweaked me to reward more... un-cheat-y gameplay? I tried to play fair and not use the spam sword technique, but the enemies hardly gave me any time to hit them because the bosses were also spamming their attacks(it felt like) so I was like, okay, you wanna spam? I CAN SPAM HARDER THAN YOU. *spam hits the enemy with sword because he won't hold still* I mean usually a boss holds still for a few seconds so you can hit him, but these bosses were like nope, gotta faster dududududu. Overall, GREAT GAME! Lots of polish and I enjoyed it :D

Your life is my money by squaredev 2019-05-04T21:55:31Z

The artstyle was really well-done! usually I don't like 3D graphics, but yours had a clear distinct style to it that made it really nice to look at! The gameplay is innovative; I've never seen another game like this before! The animals are cute! Please fix the audio, my ears hurt ;-;

Bloodslinger by ryusui 2019-05-05T04:30:02Z

Great entry into the Ludum Dare! I love the gunfighting scene, very satisfying and visually it showed who won instead of only relying on text to say who won. The UI was very clear and I was never confused about what I could click on. After first I didn't get that I can to pick my cards in order of attack, defense, and luck. I just thought I drew such-and-such for attack, such-and-such for defend, such-andsuch for luck, then had to pick if I wanted to attack, defend, or use my luck for that round. XD Idk why, but then I figured it out afterwards. The only real feedback I have other than that is the lack of more strategies in gameplay. All I did was reroll if my numbers were low and put the highest numbers up as possible XD

Reap into Cash by vulpineblazeyt 2019-05-04T22:49:45Z

Too easy ;-; which isn't a bad thing, but because I think the game was supposed to be fast-paced and challenging, instead of a zen relaxing experience, it could've benefitted from being more challenging. Either that or if you want to go for a more zen experience, relaxing music or nice artwork to look at XD idk

Cat Outta Hell by tifu 2019-05-07T06:26:54Z

I love the jumping sound effect! It made it much more pleasant to jump around. I love the light and the double jump and the shield power-ups. And I enjoy the checkpoints (thank you!). The only things I think could have been improved is the platforms could've moved up and down a little faster or something. Then again, maybe I will regret that advice. Anyway, pretty great for a platforming game! (i'm not really a platformer, so I'm just happy that I was able to beat it)

Meat Your Unmaker by freakoftheyear 2019-05-01T13:56:51Z

I love the concept and theme of this game! It doesn't exactly fit the theme but I don't care! The theme was holding this game back! XD (as a compliment, of course). It's amazing what your team did in just 2-3 days. (: The only feedback I can give is it would make the ending paragraphs easier to read if you split them into at LEAST 2 paragraphs instead of one ginormous paragraph clump. Other than that, I'm loving it haha.

The Joy of Creationism with God Ross by AndideBob 2019-05-01T11:05:20Z

I love it XD The smooth jazz, the voice acting, and the mood overall haha. The sound effect for the rain was kind of jarring though ;-; And also I couldn't tell what the coin buttons did. The FIRST button I tried pressing other than the ones bob told me to press was the exit application button, and I thought it crashed! XD

Bob the Zombie by Sanguis 2019-05-07T05:31:58Z

Sorry that I couldn't play it too long ;-; I'm hyper-sensitive to scary things(even though this wasn't even meant to be scary at all)

Trading Lives by meskaline 2019-05-05T08:29:41Z

Overall, pretty great for a game made in only 48 hours by yourself! Most people wouldn't be able to do this! Once you get into the flow of the game, it's pretty mesmerizing. (Assuming the audio has been muted, because the audio will chase people away from the game sadly) Some visual elements aren't very clear. For example I thought the sword was a cape (because he could kinda fly with his jumps XD so I just thought he was like a kid icarus) and it wasn't very clear that I could cut the spikes with a sword(in no other game have I played in which you could cut spikes with a sword, also the game didn't convey it to me) or that the vine thingies were souls you had to cut to get HP back. I didn't know that the top meter was the HP bar O.O My favorite graphic was the soul of the daughter. She was really pretty and I wish I could've played as her! XD

NEOLITE by Extrone 2019-05-07T06:38:10Z

The settings menu was extremely impressive XD My favorite noise of the entire game was the click-y sound when you press the buttons in the menu. I really like the gun, although sometimes it seems like I should've been able to hit them when it didn't hit them. There's some strange visual artifacts on the enemies around certain bits. I wish I felt stronger because no matter how much I upgraded my gun it never really felt like I had a strong. It felt like I was just shooting a peashooter or something.(the amt of damage it did was weak) I gotta say though, how you spawn in this game surrounded by a bunch of people and obstacles (so you're trapped) felt pretty unfair. I actually died because I spawned and got stuck in the middle surrounded by people and there were blocks in the way of my escape route rip XD

The Ice Cream Man by Cole 2019-05-05T02:06:41Z

The graphics are GREAT! There was a lot of customer variety, the ice cream toppings were very intuitive to put together. (It wasn't exactly clear though where to put the order; I instinctively put the ice cream on their face XD) The deaths were funny but also really sad in a way. (the first guy I served just dropped dead and I was so surprised lol) All in all, pretty great. Another feedback I can give is for when the customer is telling you what they want, you could put a picture of the completed order that they want OR a bunch of pictures of the toppings instead of the names of them to convey the order more intuitively.

Scarf Scarf by Memedev0 2019-05-05T02:15:32Z

I like the gameplay! It's an interesting take on the bullet hell and shooter genre, kinda. You just point and "spray bullets" at enemies and they die while you dodge their attacks. Learn more about shaders and watch out for those nasty shader and fps and resolution compatibility issues!

Project Slorgan: The Escape by CodeKoto 2019-05-04T22:19:42Z

LOVE the audio and visual feedback for what was happening! That part was extremely polished. The idea is very innovative, gutsy, and interesting. My favorite part in terms of movement, since this is meant to be like a roguelike platformer, was WASD to move, the short periods I was able to move mid-air, and Q and E to breath, although I wish Q and E to breath served more of a unique purpose other than just a thing that you do every few seconds just as a chore to do. I think the jump would be cooler if I could consistently control my character midair during a jump. (: Good job you peeps!

Battery Life by Attala 2019-05-05T08:04:37Z

This was a really good solid game for your first ever ludum dare and first ever game! I really like the concept of batteries charging and the puzzle mechanics, however I totally didn't expect the enemies and the enemies were annoying to me . Once they start shooting at you, BOB AND WEAVE, BOB AND WEAVE! And then fail puzzle XD Also the door takes forever to open and it makes a really jarring sound effect (like a phone vibrating on top of a desk) that hurt my ears. But really good considering you did everything by yourself and in only 48 hours!

Darkling by jordantanner 2019-05-07T01:35:48Z

I'm probably not the target audience for this game. very scary, very spooky can't play too long

Arrow of Light by sylvie 2019-05-05T07:31:29Z

This game is super adorable! I love the pitter patter of the walking sounds, I love all the dialogue of the NPCs, I love the arrow of light ability (I just wish it could also unveil secret areas like an AOE reveal effect!) The difficulty spikes could be worked on. (easier at the beginning, and ramping up to 10 at the end?) And yeah, pretty great game :D I could see a lot of people just rage-quitting this game in the starting area, the lava puzzle area where you get the key, the tower where you just get funneled into a bazillion enemies that shoot balls through the wall at suddenly double damage and there's no heals, and after you break the circle of light at the end (because people might not find the way out and then just think that there was no ending and leave unsatisfied.)

Reaping Riches by Purrfexionator 2019-05-07T00:14:04Z

The movement was really good! My favorite part of the game was collecting the coins and hearing the coin collect sound. That's why at the 2nd boss fight I was just farming the coins because it is very spiritually rewarding. XD I think the difficulty scaling/ramping is a little ridiculous at first. Some visual feedback that the enemy is taking damage would make it feel better. The player is expected to conserve their ammo carefully, however the game doesn't make it clear when I shoot a bullet where exactly my bullet spawns(vertically-wise) and the enemy collision hitboxes on them compared to their sprite is a little annoying(when you use your well-earned money bullet carefully to clip the bottom part of a octopus's tentacle, and it just goes through because that doesn't count as hitting the octopus RAAAAAA XD) Also it's a little unclear at the beginning that you're just not supposed to kill certain enemies, narrowing different approaches to your levels and undiversifying gameplay a bit. (Like how do I kill the pyramid enemies without dying? "You're not supposed to kill them" "oh okay") xD All in all, great progress was made during the jam! :D

Shadow Seekers by Caveman54 2019-05-06T23:32:52Z

My favorite part of the game was being in the shop listening to the shopkeeper speak to me XD Art design-wise, the trap door is a little difficult to see. Gameplay-wise, the character still walks too slow ;-; How slowly he walked made me not want to play anymore. And the dungeon looked the same and it was like a labyrinth so I didn't know where to go and I didn't feel like exploring anymore because I walk so slow. I didn't end up finding any treasure after trudging through the dungeon for a few minutes, and I didn't feel like playing til I found one because my character walked so slow. D:

Prospector Stanley by kypello 2019-05-05T04:07:51Z

This was a pretty solid entry! Prospector Stanley getting rich cracked me up. I love how all the different things were animated and the pencil/pen sound effects and voice acting was funny. The only feedback I have to give is that some of the UI elements weren't following the same rules as the others. (the arrow being interactable because it was the only ui element that wasn't outlined in white while all the others were interactable and outlined in white). Also the pencils stacking on top of each other were building up after a while started to hurt my ears a little bit xD Other than that, great game! Solid entry into the compo!

Jumpcoins by Shawn Moore 2019-05-05T03:16:54Z

This game was extremely well-polished and I really enjoyed the coin jump mechanic! (although I like jumping a lot so I killed myself a lot just cuz I like jumping) The art was very clear and intuitive, there were no conflicting visual design choices. The sound effects were satisfying and none of them disturbed me while playing. I usually don't play platforming games (and I suck at them) but this game made me feel really good while playing it. It made me feel really accomplished, I love all the badges and achievements for each level. Overall, amazing! One of the few games I gave a 5/5 :)

ORBid by Martynas 2019-04-30T22:18:50Z

The music, sound effects, and mood are spectacular XD I love the chiptunes haha. I have a few suggestions: When you introduce the first enemy, don't have it spawn right behind the tutorial box. Also it blends into the green background. That's all, really :3 <3

Mahou Shoujo Monster: Promised Fate by jadedResearcher 2019-05-03T00:27:15Z

It confused me so much trying to play this XD I thought the sound effect for throwing the chick at the monster was really funny. I won by spamming throw chick at it until died in two shots OwO

Collecting Really Nice Cats! by cheesepencil 2019-05-05T03:53:55Z

The voice acting was hilarious! Easily the best part of this game was the dude saying "MEOW?!" when you pick him up like "Excuse me?" Needs some background music :D

60 Days Till Summer by Fnkee 2019-05-03T00:35:06Z

The game is great! Just needs more content and endings ^-^ <3

Axed by Flamboozle 2019-05-04T20:57:30Z

I enjoy how clearly design-wise the enemies were! It was never confusing which ones were the enemies and what was the background. The "Regen" item was very misleading! I suggest renaming it to "Heal" instead.

Croissants From Hell by Kimily 2019-05-03T00:11:53Z

@instafluff Thank you so much! Hopefully I took your advice correctly (: <3

Croissants From Hell by Kimily 2019-05-07T19:19:24Z

@kylazaur omg thank you for the feedback Kyla <3 And you're right, I agree! I want to make the customers look really happy when they buy food and put a little thinking (...) animation above their head when they're staring at the dough :3

Croissants From Hell by Kimily 2019-05-08T05:36:13Z

@jofersgames Aww, thank you Jofers! I liked the idea of multiple doughs being cooked at the same time, like in a real pizzeria or baker! You're the first to say it felt cozy, haha. I was thinking that if you could cook multiple doughs, then it would add some depth to gameplay because skilled players could put a few doughs in the oven at once.

Croissants From Hell by Kimily 2019-05-08T05:49:35Z

@anion-z Oh yeah, I have no idea what inspired me to make the death animation like that XD But it makes for a really great screen transition!

Thanks for telling me about the issue haha. Before, there was a 3-6 second delay after spawning where they'd just stand off-screen, so that's why a few would spawn, then swarm in all at once) (In my version it's fixed, not the ludum dare versions.)

It dawned upon me when I tried out a bunch of other jam games that a LOT of them used free sounds and music, and I was like OH SHOOT, I COULD'VE DONE THAT! I just wasn't thinking about it and didn't realize the rules/norms of the ludum jam haha. Next time, I'll use free sounds for sure!

Oh shoot, I didn't intend to put a sandwich in my game. I'll try to figure out why there's a sandwich in there XD (Haha just kidding, but I know what you mean! I think it doesn't happen anymore in my version, but unfortunately the bug fix never made it in the LD versions.) Although I do know that I tried to fix that bug at least 3 times before the LD deadline!

Thank you for your feedback!

Croissants From Hell by Kimily 2019-05-08T06:13:42Z

@codekoto Haha, sorry about that. Since the game doesn't have an end, I wanted the player to die at least once, and quickly, so that people don't just quit from boredom.

I think out of anybody else who tried out my game, you played it the longest, haha! I'm happy you enjoy the game. Because of your comment and support from other awesome individuals, I decided to launch an itch.io game page so that people can follow me. (I wasn't sure if I needed a game page or not to link my profile)

I'll be sure to update it when I make more games or release more versions of Croissants From Hell! Here's a link if you want to follow me: https://kimily.itch.io/croissants-from-hell (and this version is the exact same as the version in the ludum dare haha)

I actually am working on a new feature for Croissants from Hell, but it's not completed or polished yet. I'll be releasing a version with new features intact to get feedback. (: I'd be happy if you tried it out when I do!

And the new version will have music and audio, I promise. xP
