Could do with more player feedback like music and little flurishes like when the customers take the food, it could pop up above their heads etc etc but awesome game overall <3
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD44 → Croissants From Hell

This review is only for the jam version:
The art style was really clean and polished. Good job there. I felt like the gameplay was on-theme, but content-light. By introducing new challenges and goals, you could potentially make an interesting gameplay loop. But of course, I recognize that there's only so much that you can do in a weekend, and this is a good effort. Nice work.
This is such a cute game!! Please change the links to have "dl=1" at the end so that it downloads right away when clicked from the Dropbox link!
@instafluff Thank you so much! Hopefully I took your advice correctly (: <3
I got audio only when I lost (just letting you know in case that's not intentional).
This game plays pretty well. I didn't realize that customers could buy stuff from the spaces behind the display platters at first, so I only ever had 3 baked goods out at once. The pizzas seem to be in a weird place balance-wise. I definitely killed myself somehow by buying too much.
Overall, it plays well. I would have loved some audio to really put the cherry on top. Nice work!
Edit: I didn't realize you opted out of audio until after I wrote this. Disregard that part of my comment :)
@kimily YUP the links work great now, thank you!!
Great stuff, and a solid entry!
Would have liked som more sound and music but otherwise this is the perfect jam game according to me
Really cute, loved the art and really fun, having multiple buns in the oven at the same time somehow feels super cosy despite your life slowly being sucked away :)
That art is very cute, I was also a bit surprised by that small demon to close up on me, and that face when you die xD
The game in its concept and realization feels very well done, but first customer takes too much time to come whereas others rush in in a great number, there should be some curve imo.
Even simple sounds from freesound.org would make this game just so much more interesting combined with the graphics.
There is a bug when someone takes the sandwich but time runs out you see the bar fill up but still die after a second, and finally the life should decrease just a bit slower or customers choose faster to compensate for that.
Overall a very strong entry and made me smile here and there !
I enjoyed playing the game, it was quite fun. The art was so cute and it went well together with the "I am going to take your soul" pressure that you have. After first time dying, i fugured out how to play and then stayed alive for like 12 minutes untill i accidentally pressed twice on buy and died xD
Technically i could play forever if the prices would never reach higher than the sell out price. Otherwise i really love the game, the only thing missing is the music and audio. I understand you had not time, i really wish there would be something though D: (you could have taken some free music and referenced the authors, i think that would have been better than nothing, but since you opted out of audio i won't rate you on it)
I would love to see your future games including Ludum Dare, if you have an itch.io, i will surely follow you for upcoming titles. Good luck in your other games and continue the good job.
great art
Funny game. I found the art very cute. I was very sad because there is no music.
Congratulations!
This was really cute! I played the jam version which seemed a little too slow-paced, I didn't feel like I really had to fight that hard to keep up with the time limit. I wonder if I would like the hard mode version more. The graphics and animations were adorable!
I played the Jam version and I think that this is a really good little game. I like the artwork and enjoyed the gameplay loop. very good game
(This is a review of the original jam version) This was such a cute and fun little entry! The gameplay, while simple and not all that innovative, was still super addicting and offered up a nice challenge. I did feel like the characters that came to purchase your goods went a little to slowly, i died with my shelves fully stocked and nobody bought anything. It fits the theme perfectly- it is incorporated in a simple way, but a way that is easily recognizable as the theme and works nicely with the gameplay without feeling forced, like it was built around the theme rather than being stuffed into it. However, I think that where this game shines is its graphics. Everything was so cutesy and fluffy and generally pleasant to look at, which I think gave it a sense of personality and charm that isn't too common in jam games. I especially loved the little duck-demon character that taught you the basics and then peeked out from behind the furnace later into the game, and the characters who came to purchase your pastries were nice too. The game definitely has a sense of humor- from the wacky semi-jumpscare in the intro cutscene, to the guide apologetically saying that he would need to take your blood every second, and even the way that he just smiled at the end of the death animation all made me smile. Overall, nicely done! I'd say this is a solid 4-star game!
Art and animations are awesome! Also the pacing of comedy in the beginning is on point, it was pretty funny. It's nice to see a distinct artistic vision. I guess everybody already wrote about the sound. For what it is it's a very solid entry!
Too bad the music arrived only on my death! :D Funny little game. It reminded me of some Nintendo DS game. The theme was followed well and I liked the signing part and the demon hiding behind the oven. The game play is a bit too simple but this is a nice entry!
@kylazaur omg thank you for the feedback Kyla <3 And you're right, I agree! I want to make the customers look really happy when they buy food and put a little thinking (...) animation above their head when they're staring at the dough :3
@jofersgames Aww, thank you Jofers! I liked the idea of multiple doughs being cooked at the same time, like in a real pizzeria or baker! You're the first to say it felt cozy, haha. I was thinking that if you could cook multiple doughs, then it would add some depth to gameplay because skilled players could put a few doughs in the oven at once.
@anion-z Oh yeah, I have no idea what inspired me to make the death animation like that XD But it makes for a really great screen transition!
Thanks for telling me about the issue haha. Before, there was a 3-6 second delay after spawning where they'd just stand off-screen, so that's why a few would spawn, then swarm in all at once) (In my version it's fixed, not the ludum dare versions.)
It dawned upon me when I tried out a bunch of other jam games that a LOT of them used free sounds and music, and I was like OH SHOOT, I COULD'VE DONE THAT! I just wasn't thinking about it and didn't realize the rules/norms of the ludum jam haha. Next time, I'll use free sounds for sure!
Oh shoot, I didn't intend to put a sandwich in my game. I'll try to figure out why there's a sandwich in there XD (Haha just kidding, but I know what you mean! I think it doesn't happen anymore in my version, but unfortunately the bug fix never made it in the LD versions.) Although I do know that I tried to fix that bug at least 3 times before the LD deadline!
Thank you for your feedback!
@codekoto Haha, sorry about that. Since the game doesn't have an end, I wanted the player to die at least once, and quickly, so that people don't just quit from boredom.
I think out of anybody else who tried out my game, you played it the longest, haha! I'm happy you enjoy the game. Because of your comment and support from other awesome individuals, I decided to launch an itch.io game page so that people can follow me. (I wasn't sure if I needed a game page or not to link my profile)
I'll be sure to update it when I make more games or release more versions of Croissants From Hell! Here's a link if you want to follow me: https://kimily.itch.io/croissants-from-hell (and this version is the exact same as the version in the ludum dare haha)
I actually am working on a new feature for Croissants from Hell, but it's not completed or polished yet. I'll be releasing a version with new features intact to get feedback. (: I'd be happy if you tried it out when I do!
And the new version will have music and audio, I promise. xP
Cute graphics! I played v0.9 and enjoyed the graphics and gameplay mechanic! I loved the "Contract"! Wanted to do the same on my game but I felt like the Signature part would be a bit too much hehe.
The game felt a bit unrewarding to play -- there's no score and I can stay alive until I fall asleep :P You might wanna invest some time in making the game enjoyable for more time on your next entry, like, adding a Progression panel and some Music/Sounds.
The mechanic is VERY interesting though! With some additional features this could turn into an excellent game and possibly be released! Well done!
This is super cute. Everything works well and it's fun. All that's left is some tuning and polish, but that's really hard to do in just a few days. It's really great game for the time constraints.
