LD57 — Depths

Downstairs by Sn4pi 2025-04-10T05:45:53Z

I think in games like this it’s important to regularly give the player bits of content to keep them engaged. At times, my brain was only focused on holding the up arrow (which, by the way, felt a bit unintuitive), and during long descents where nothing was happening, I just felt like quitting.

That said, I really loved the visuals and the sound design. The core idea is super cool!

The Chromatic Window by egawag 2025-04-10T05:23:47Z

Hard to call it a game, but it’s absolutely amazing. I didn’t make it to the end (was expecting it to be a quick 5–7 minute experience), but I’ll definitely set aside time to finish it properly. You guys did an awesome job — I’ll be keeping an eye on your future work!

Listening Winds by Hoichael 2025-04-08T06:45:07Z

Really enjoyed the game! The graphics were beautiful, even though my brain sometimes struggled with everything being black and only white lines visible. Got a bit lost on level 2 — not sure where to go. Also stopped at the white room, not sure if there's more after that.

Potato Planet Driller by Corbak 2025-04-08T12:43:38Z

The game turned out pretty cool! The moment I realized I could adjust my flying direction to burn less, my brain exploded 😄

It’s not always clear what to deliver and where — maybe having specific tasks like in Overcooked would help. But overall, it was a fun experience!

Journey to the Centre of the Ocean by GoogleFrog 2025-04-08T06:56:07Z

Took me back to school days playing Hill Climb Racing with friends all day!

Feels like two-button controls would've worked better — I kept trying to turn the car with A/D, but here it's W/S. The music didn’t quite fit, but overall it's a fun game!

Undercity by Monado 2025-04-09T08:16:47Z

I really liked the visuals and the characters — super charming! It wasn’t very obvious that you need to press space to talk though 😅 Wall jumping also felt really tricky. I’d recommend checking how it’s handled in other games for reference, especially in terms of controls and feel. I couldn’t get very far because I kept getting stuck in spots where I just couldn’t make the jump.

Knights From Inside My Walls by WelshDivision 2025-04-08T07:35:04Z

Really cool game!

If I could change something, I'd add the ability to level up manually instead of automatically — it’s not always clear how my attacks are changing. Also, during the battle with the worms, they teleported around the field. There were also some issues with animations.

Deep Underground by Thrawn911 2025-04-08T12:58:27Z

I found the movement sound really unpleasant — though maybe that was intentional. The descent felt a bit too long, with not much changing, so it was mostly just waiting. But the game looks pretty cool!

Lumen Dephts by MartRoks 2025-04-08T12:15:14Z

The game was fun to play! I definitely wanted to see more levels. I didn’t quite understand what the health was for or what I was supposed to be afraid of 😄

Maybe adding some monsters would make it more exciting!

Void Plunder by Malte Hedenstrom 2025-04-08T12:19:45Z

Nice game, really liked the music!

Maybe the controls could be a bit more responsive, but overall it was good.

GoldenDepth by Bassilij 2025-04-08T13:15:37Z

Really enjoyed the game! Awesome graphics and atmosphere. I agree with the other comments — it would be great to move up and down independently from regular movement.

DEPTHS - FLOOR 404 by ybzpp 2025-04-08T13:06:38Z

Very atmospheric and cool game! While carrying the "elevator thing," I had flashbacks to Amnesia. Really enjoyed it!

Illuminat! by Thieme55 2025-04-08T12:33:47Z

Really cool puzzle game! I didn’t expect to spend so much time on it, but I did. Sadly, I couldn’t finish it — always felt like I was missing two more mirrors 😅

A Strike In The Dark by Mateu 2025-04-10T05:50:38Z

The game feels really nice to play. Lovely visuals and a great concept — you did an awesome job!

Obsidian Deep by Joseph Tan 2025-04-08T13:18:58Z

Ah… I came to this game after the dev commented under mine saying our games are similar — and they really are! I’d love to add some of the mechanics from your game into mine (I had them in mind, but knew I wouldn’t have time to implement them).

Either way, your game plays great — I ended up spending quite a bit of time in it!

Blackout Protocol by eggsscrambled 2025-04-09T06:05:39Z

Cool little horror game — I liked it! There’s this lingering feeling that something’s missing, but I can’t quite put my finger on what exactly. Overall, though, it was a good experience.

Mine For It All by Ji-Li 2025-04-08T07:15:39Z

Cool game! Just like others said, I got hooked and ended up spending more time here than I expected :)

Into The Mousehole by Baldurs 2025-04-08T08:07:29Z

Didn't quite figure out how to kill with the dash, but overall the game is awesome! Looks stunning, and the animations are fire. Controls felt a bit clunky — I think with some tweaks to make them more responsive, it would feel even better. Would also love to see the mechanics progress over time (like more dashes, blasting through obstacles, temporary invincibility, etc).

Criminal deep dreams by Natahan 2025-04-09T05:55:02Z

Really liked the visuals, especially how the handheld lanterns glow in different places. The controls felt a bit counterintuitive, though. Pressing Enter to read letters is fine, but I only figured out that I had to press W to pull them out by accident. At first, I thought you could only read the ones that were already visible.

KILLWARE by deadjolly 2025-04-10T05:30:43Z

Pretty solid game! Gave me some Armored Core vibes :)

After a while it starts to feel a bit repetitive — would be great to see more enemy variety, noticeable speed increases, or some extra challenges over time.

Overall, nice work!

Sub-mersed by Aynu 2025-04-10T05:36:00Z

Wow, this is really impressive — especially considering you’ve only been learning Pygame for a month! Wishing you lots of success in the future.

As a suggestion, it would be nice to have more pleasant music, and maybe add a score system or some kind of goal to work toward.

Not Too Deep by Crak 2025-04-08T07:19:59Z

The game turned out pretty fun! I never quite figured out if there was a "right" way to do things — it always felt either too weak or too strong. But overall, really cool!

Sin & Seasoning by AlexDawn 2025-04-08T13:33:22Z

Even though the visuals look really cool, I couldn’t figure out how to actually play :( I gave a rating just for the visuals. Hopefully someone explains how it works so I can come back and rate the rest!

Avoid the void by Danigabe 2025-04-08T08:01:13Z

The graphics are super cool — I really liked them! Turning felt a bit awkward though. I often couldn’t tell if I was standing correctly or too close to the edge, or if that even mattered. Other than that, it was fun. If you made the models yourself during the jam, that’s really impressive!

TLYA by Fenix131113 2025-04-09T08:21:21Z

Cute and fun little game! Dodging the monsters was pretty tough though. Also feels like it could really use some more sound effects to bring everything to life.

St.Amsel by Liquid 2025-04-08T07:48:45Z

Very relaxing game. It was a pleasure to explore the world — I really enjoyed it!

Stolen Heart by LyaMgtt 2025-04-09T05:43:51Z

Wow, the game looks absolutely amazing and so cute! I spent a long time just throwing all the cards one after another, and I even thought it didn't really matter in what order, but then the dragon defeated me :) Incredible work. I really enjoyed it!

Though, I feel like there could be more animations and effects when the enemy takes a turn. Also, I noticed some bugs where cards would pop up over the menus.

DigDig by Overlix 2025-04-08T13:28:38Z

The game has a cute, cozy vibe like Terraria or Minecraft — the music really adds to that feeling. But after digging for 5–10 minutes, I still couldn’t figure out how to craft anything besides the pickaxe and the lamp :(

Treasure Down Under by cmaks 2025-04-10T05:53:01Z

Such a cute game! It's a shame it’s so short. Also, I really missed having some sound effects.

Below Birdsong by levi kingma 2025-04-08T07:53:51Z

I left overall rating just for the visuals, because I didn’t really understand what to do in the game. I walked left and right but just hit dead ends. If someone explains what I’m doing wrong, I’d be happy to give it another try.

Cult of the Whisker by Artel 2025-04-09T08:05:28Z

Really cool visuals and sound design — some parts were even a bit creepy in the best way! I’d love to see more levels, the atmosphere is awesome and I definitely want more. Great job!

Trapped by depths by cRoxx 2025-04-08T07:04:08Z

Very meditative game. Nice music, simple visuals, clear goal — overall, I really liked it!

Cursor Descend by FoxEcho 2025-04-08T06:49:01Z

While playing, I realized how badly my desk is set up 😄 Cool game, really nice visuals!

Miner by basekeet 2025-04-09T05:15:49Z

I’m really happy that @510, @lrdjj, and some other guys have completed the game! It’s also great to see that many of you enjoyed the mechanics I’ve implemented. I was surprised to find out that there are players like @joseph-tan who made similar games.

A big thanks to @510 for the feedback! I’ve already added card descriptions to the page. I hope this helps new players or even gives you a reason to dive back into the game!(@glebsviripa, @justuspan)

Initially, I didn’t want to add too much text with descriptions and wanted to let players figure out the cards themselves, but since many of you requested it, I’ve decided to add them.

Also, @justuspan — when a card is glowing, it means it’s activated. It gets activated when you dig the ore specified on the card. And yes, it can activate multiple times depending on the rarity.

Miner by basekeet 2025-04-09T07:34:25Z

@sangheli Thanks for the feedback! In order for the card boosts to work, you need to activate them first. To do that, you have to dig up the ore shown on the card. I recommend giving it a try next time and see how it goes!

Webbed In The Depth by Livelypersimmon 2025-04-08T07:25:47Z

When the spike killed me, I instantly got flashbacks to I Wanna Be the Boshy 😅 Other than that, fun game!

HellDigger – A Cozy Idle Game by sangheli 2025-04-09T08:08:13Z

At first, it was a bit hard to understand what to do, but once I figured it out, the gameplay became pretty fun! Not a big fan of the AI-generated art — it’s okay, but not really my thing. I also think some cool background music could really help elevate the experience!

Helluva Ride by Lazar Cvetkovic 2025-04-08T14:03:36Z

Really liked the visuals and music. The controls felt nice most of the time, but the car's collider could use some tweaking — almost every time I touched an edge, it turned me straight into the wall. Maybe rounding the collider a bit would fix it :)

Light - Ludum Dare 57 by based.on.life 2025-04-08T07:40:28Z

Such a vibey game!

It really gave me feelings of fear and discomfort, which I loved. At first, I didn’t quite understand the goal (I spent a lot of time trying to reach the island above with the anchor and kept losing for some reason). The idea of falling with the anchor is just awesome!
