the game is so original, In addition to being fun and creative, the entire narrative of the wizard in search of his duck, not to mention the villain who is... bald, bald villains are truly evil, the game is fun and the mechanic of returning the correct color makes the player observe before pressing the button

2024-04-16 16:37

The game's premise is very good, like the project needs to be polished, but nothing that can't be resolved

I really liked the gameplay!

cresceda 2024-04-16 18:24

The narrative and gameplay are fun! It's cute, and these games fit right up my alley. I agree with that there's some polishing that could be gone, but it's functional and enjoyable!

lonelygamedev 2024-04-16 18:31

Interesting game. I like the guitar hero style mechanics and the music itself is great. but part of me felt like the actual gameplay was disconnected from the music. alot of the game felt like it was missing a pulse of some kind. And I do miss there was a bit more thought put into the attacking phase. But other then that it's a fun enough game. and a very cool idea

literally-void 2024-04-16 18:35

This is a nice core game loop, and the story's great too! I do feel it's a little repetitive, and I think mixing up the incoming patterns would go a long way; but regardless, I had a lot of fun!

tomtomgome 2024-04-16 18:58

This was very fun, the music, especially the first ones, I really liked. The story is quite funny and I am a big fan of that haha. My main complaint would be a timing issue, I kept loosing my combo because the wave of enemies was ending or the boss would end its phase just when I was pressing a key. But I had a lot of fun regardless

asfdfdfd 2024-04-16 19:18

This little guys want to kill me with such happy face.

flamingrat 2024-04-16 23:59

Great rhythm game, loved it! I would have paid a little more attention to audio balancing since rhythm games are all about that; the music could loop seamlessly and the SFX could use some volume balancing. The art was very neat and the game didn't seem to have a lot of bugs so nicely done there! I'd also cut back on the text a little bit, but that's mostly personal preference.

rumiaobsessed 2024-04-17 02:11

I really liked the concept of a spell casting rhythm game and the sprite for Phinneas is really cute.

The timing the button presses and bgm was off though. I also really disliked how long it took for you to get feedback from your controls when you attacked the boss. There is a lot of waiting around when you make your attack, making the boss fight very underwhelming compared to the regular gameplay.

skizil 2024-04-17 07:11

Loving the old-school vibe!

heretic 2024-04-17 07:50

it was very cool, the game keeps you well in suspense, reminded me of the days of guitar heroes on xbox 360, I suggest playing on hard difficulty for a more dynamic experience

breadley 2024-04-17 07:58

Really fun rhythm based combat with some cute art!

The songs matched surprisingly well with the inputs and having a rock, paper, scissors section against the boss was a nice touch! Only big issue I had was having a hard time differentiating between the yellow and orange boss colors leading to more than a few hits from the boss.

Y'all made a legit fun game, great job!

dywanix 2024-04-17 08:27

Interesting game. Rhythm combas was enjoyable but I would love to see how much hp is left for my enemy (or maybe this is and I am blind)

unrealkazu 2024-04-17 08:57

Nice spin bringing in a rhythm game! I finished it on hard, and it felt right on point regarding the difficulty. The graphics were nice, and I really liked the mechanic of having to hit the boss in between sessions. I was initially a bit confused because for me orange on the boss looked a bit more like yellow, but it seems like the bosses never turn yellow? Other than that, great effort!

smidgens 2024-04-17 18:22

This was a lot of fun. The graphics, audio, style, it all hangs together really well. Maybe just have the bosses start flipping out a little the closer you get to beating them to give you a sense of progress / intensity? (Toss more enemies at you, bounce around erratically etc.)

cananaman 2024-04-18 02:08

My little brother adored this game, you did a great job! He was bopping his head to the music and we took turns fighting against all the monsters :) It was fun when it was my turn and he was like "PRESS Z!!! now X!!! now M!!!" haha I'm glad the game was easy for him, but for me, I'd love to see if you return to this and make more difficult modes, maybe with some simultaneous key presses or more complex sequences! And for the attacking the boss part of the game, three things that would improve it: * if the bullets already in transit when the boss changes color just get reflected instead of punishing you with damage, or... * if the bullets you fire went a little faster so the risk-reward element makes more sense * if for colorblind accessibility, you make the relevant button flash the relevant color when you need to attack the boss! I'm not personally colorblind but I did have a lot of trouble distinguishing between yellow and orange! Best of luck in the jam, tossing you 5 stars all the way

dmitry-mozgin 2024-04-18 19:32

Why have you chosen Z, X, C, N, M, but not Z, X, C, V, B keys? :D

Aside from that, the game plays and feels well!

the4thcircle 2024-04-18 20:16

I know I should judge the game by what it is and not what it isn't, but I really felt the lack of a rhythm behind the attacks. The interface is so like a guitar hero or rockband game, with the right music it would really pop, especially if there was a timing to the return attacks.

vphyre 2024-04-18 20:34

@dmitry-mozgin Thanks for the question! By the way, excellent question! haha

So, we were in doubt about which keys to choose. We chose Z, X, C, N, M, thinking about using two hands, on the same "keyboard row". Especially because we believe that most people would not prefer to play "using one hand", even if this was possible using the V and B keys. Our idea, too, was to give a small space between the hands.

But it's a good question. I think that maybe in an ideal scenario, we could let the player choose which keys he would like to use, but for a gamejam (especially for our idea, and the way we implemented it), maybe we "lacked time" to design all the possible keys, to put on the in-game buttons (and also implement this). I know we could try other solutions like using a font and visually transforming the buttons into UI elements. But at the time of implementation we ended up opting for this first approach... Although in a future update, we can improve this. :)

spex130 2024-04-20 04:31

This one's really fun! I like the concept, and the execution was really good! I did a playthrough on Medium difficulty. If I had any complaints at all: * The game slows down a bunch when the enemy goes into its damage phase, because you can't mash and also the enemy doesn't take damage until the bullet physically reaches the target. Maybe make it so that just pressing the button at all does damage so the damage phase can feel CRAZY AND FUN instead of having to slow down a ton and be more careful so you don't accidentally take damage for being too aggressive. * There's no feedback on how much health the enemies have - maybe giving a healthbar of sorts would be nice? It's hard to tell the timing on when the damage phase is going to end, too. Any way the player can get feedback for that?

Nice work with this one!

kamizenki 2024-04-20 05:49

Greet game but somehow the music of the game over is too loud.

lenny-rudeberg 2024-04-20 06:20

Good game! Art was super cute and funny and the music was great. Had a lot of fun with the gameplay too, I did experience a bug on my first run where after I got killed by the first boss, it sent me to the final boss when I clicked "try again"

Aside from that I had a great time and tried it on every difficulty, great job!

jean-francois 2024-04-20 07:33

The game is enjoyable :) My only issue revolved around the key bindings; they didn't feel quite "natural" to me. Using ZXC and NM felt a bit off, perhaps utilizing QWE and IOP across 6 rows would have been better, but I'm not entirely sure.

Nevertheless, artwork, gameplay, and music — all very cool!

(Also, I'm using an AZERTY keyboard, but I can easily adapt to find the corresponding keys.)

fenix131113 2024-04-20 07:42

Pretty good work!

fabula-rasa 2024-04-20 08:35

You had me at "save your rubber duck" The guitar hero meets the elemental summoning combo is quite interesting and plays well. It's very nice to have 3 difficulty levels available - this way anybody can enjoy the game without frustration of it being too easy/too hard.

Music is nice, and it's a great touch to have it change with the bosses. There is some strange inconsistency to the art - most things are pixel art, but Phinneas. There doesn't seem to be a purpose to that exception, so it just feels out of place. Pixel sizes also vary widely.

Anyway, quite an enjoyable jam game! And I just love your main menu - it's so cool

doonutsaur 2024-04-20 16:15

i enjoy the mechanics!good job. i was thinking maybe adding spells/weapons to the slots would be more fun!

oatmilkmaid 2024-04-20 17:42

As someone who loves Guitar Hero, this game was such a treat. What a cute concept and idea, love the setting as well. Really well polished, and very cute graphics :)

dotiocat 2024-04-21 11:31

A really charming game! I really liked the simplicity of the gameplay yet it was difficult enough to keep me engaged (played on hard). Music is fitting, the characters are nice and the story is humorous yet very serious! A thing that I would like is (and it might be the case already but I didn't feel it) if the slimes didn't always have the same 'delay' between them, as in having like a few really rapid presses in a row instead of always same tempo of pressing between each slime. And in regards to feedback, it would be nice to have some information like how much health the bosses have left, or how much damage you'll take if you hit them with the wrong spell as I was really surprised when I lost over two thirds of my health to a single miss against the final boss! Still a really awesome game, thank you for making it.

13x666 2024-04-21 16:56

Ahh, good old Guitar Hero buttons! Same colors, I see you! :)

The "notes" not being synced to the music threw me off a couple of times, and the ZXC-NM mapping was confusing to my brain, this gap between C and N didn't want to make sense in my head. But overall the entry is funny and charming and I had a good time completing your game, great job!

k-toll 2024-04-21 17:13

I thought it was going to be as hard as Guitar Hero, but it's okay.

It's a good idea to vary the game mechanics by sending the requested color.

Good project!

emaigualmc2-art 2024-04-21 17:14

The idea of the game is very fun! He is a great magical guitar hero xD The music and sound effects are great, the art seemed a little confusing to me since many styles are mixed. Maybe that was the idea, but I think that with more consistent art, maybe 100% pixel art, the game would look much better. Well done!

tucan 2024-04-22 00:23

I really like your game! The mechanics, how it looks and the music! As a suggestion, using either only hand drawn or only pixel art will make feel consistent! Great job! Have a great jam!

aivaxela 2024-04-23 00:18

Fun little game, I enjoyed the artwork and the music was catchy! I typically am terrible at these types of games, but I was able to run Hard fairly easily...not that I am complaining ;)

baluj 2024-04-23 01:55

Nice game, the only thing is that the controls seem strange to me. Good job!

sodaro 2024-04-23 05:38

Nice job! The "boss phase" starting without warning broke my combo several times, which felt a bit frustrating. I would've also liked the inputs to match the music more, even if it limited the game to one level with one song

spiralhalo 2024-04-23 05:53

It's a cool game that plays and looks like a rhythm game, and it almost feels like a rhythm game but I wish the sound effects are much snappier and on beat! Also orange looks too much like yellow on the bosses, but since it has rubber ducks in the story I'll forgive it.

holyperceval 2024-04-23 07:39

Fun game, impo i would add a sound when the boss is ready to be hit and effect to notify the player, i lose precious seconds each time realizing it's the case. Also on the skeleton level, the orange and yellow color are way too similar, i kept throwing yellow at him when he was orange. Overall a solid entry gg. *edit also the since this uses the layout of a rythm game i was a bit threw off that it was not a musical game

troggzor56 2024-04-23 09:37

Probably my favourite so far. The boss should have a health meter. Yellow and orange were too similar. Would be good to show in some way that you will lose health if you throw the wrong color at the boss. Other than that I liked it. It actually had gameplay where you can be skilled, sort of. Oh btw, if one could turn off the dialogue it would be great... :)

Another thing: It would be nice if the _next_ color of the boss would be show, so that one could fire faster. Would add more skill potential asw.

littlegamer 2024-04-23 11:16

Very nice entry, although I was a bit lost at first, being on an AZERTY keyboard. The whole challenge is really nice but an explanation on how the player can lose health in game would have been welcomed (I saw after playing it was mentioned here). Really nice entry despite this ; I could imagine a bigger game with this gameplay.

digital-bacon 2024-04-23 11:23

Didn't expect to see a rhythm game! Nice concept, good graphics, and I like the difficulty levels. Bosses could do with energy bars or something, so you can see your progress against them. Excellent work!

frozenfire92 2024-04-25 01:46

This was a really great entry! I had a lot of fun playing it, good difficulty, great sound/art design, and was funny throughout  My only feedback is to have a bit more leeway when changing from rhythm mode to attack mode (and back). Sometimes I would lose big combos because it shifted when I didn't expect it to. Keep on making games!

mgkagamer 2024-04-28 00:05

Definitely had some fun with this game. Generally I enjoy rhythm games and this was no exception. The premise and art style were fun and the gameplay felt pretty smooth for the most part. Only thing I didn't like was there was no transition between hitting the notes and attacking, which made me mess up a few times since it changed right as I pressed a button.

trexxak 2024-05-04 00:20

The difficulty is just right! Very fun game with awesome 2D in 3D Sprites :D

alchemic 2024-05-04 00:55

Cute graphics~ I finsihed the game on hard and it felt way too easy... the patterns definitely need some variety and more challenge. Loved the artwork and audio though!

(Also I think some of your sprites are suffering from texture compression issues)
