I can't seem to rate the game, but it was fun! The terror of dying of asphyxiation in outer space was very felt. Well done! I also loved that the space ship was like a wooden ship, lol.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD54 → Space Knight

Graphics are cool and the movement controls are really satisfying, but I didn't really have any clue what I was supposed to do or how it was all supposed to work. What was there was well-executed, but as a game it was a little hard to make sense of.
I really enjoy games set in space so it was really fun to play! I only had 2 small issues, i thing the player decelerates a bit to fast, and a bit of a background music would make it so much more immersive.
But a really fun game.
Good game, I'm not really fan of the movement but the graphics are really nice!
Man, it is better than I expected. This just needs some simple UI like a bar or something so I can know what is going on. just a chef touch on the UI part.
Nice game, the controls are a bit odd, but apart from that it was really cool, great job!
The wooden space ship is amazing XD kinda expected to see a Viking on it than a medieval knight though XD. Was rly fun to play and dying from lack of O2. <3
Cool game! It has nice graphics and interesting gameplay.
Interesting game, the movement feels super jank but I think thats the point loll. Wish the pickup animation was faster though, it swing felt very sluggish.
It's a goofy little game, I can tell you had fun making it. I had some trouble getting a good feel for the controls, I kept overshooting my targets, but then, that's space, momentum is everything lol. Good effort!
Ah yes, a classic tale of a medieval knight being shipwrecked in the middle of outer space. Fun concept!
I thought that on one hand the screen started to fade a bit too soon when you were running out of oxygen, on the other hand, I never made it back to the ship once it started fading on me, so it was probably fair, heh.
Outer Wilds Origin Story. Impressive !
Something super poetic about this game. Found myself feeling all the emotions. Great work!
Good game ! there are ways to improve the game feel, and movement controls I love reference to Outer Wilds <3 Good job :) !
I love the wooden spaceship !!! Congrats !
Neat idea, good luck with your engine!
Wow, definitely a challenge. Well done!
loved the concept! I found it really fun managing the space physics. Soaring through the stars was really cool. Unfortunately I feel like in my playthrough I disproportionally had more ore than oxygen and so my ship ran out of air once I couldn't see any more oxygen molecules. Great game overall!
Well polished graphically!
Interesting idea!
The classic scissors for sword sound! Lovely graphics, somewhat interesting game mechanics and as an audio person I'd love to have heard more sound! I can't rate for some reason.
Cool game! The flying physics were cool to play with. I enjoyed high graphics mode. Thanks for the entry.
@night-on-mars Actually two kitchen knives but yes, more or less! I hadn't made game audio before and recorded it in the last hour--our next submission will definitely have more sounds!
Interesting game!
It felt a little hard to control, but I believe the real issue was the camera position -- the character obstructs the camera, so I had to turn the camera to be able to see my goal and ended up not going exactly where I wanted.
I eventually died when I could see no oxygen nearby :') Good job!
[Edit] One more thing: I think there's no way to let go of something you already picked up, that may cause problems for the player if he mistakenly gets fuel instead of oxygen as I've done just now hehe.
Like @night-on-mars I don't see the option to rate for whatever reason so I'll be checking back but I did play and I did like it! Since there was no music I put the Brinstar theme from Smash on and it was quite amazing :p
I like the concept and the gameplay, after I learnt not to accelerate for very long in any given direction not to zoom away to certain death. I think I reached the end (no more yellow seams were appearing and the ship stopped) but nothing happened and eventually the reserves ran out. Controls felt a bit complicated and I think I would've just preferred to have one acceleration button that made me go in the camera's direction. Had a lot of fun mastering the right amount of momentum!
**Edit:** I've now rated after you turned it on C:
Screenshot 2023-10-07 115531.png Died once trying to figure out what to do... but it was fun learning the space physics and going fast to collect the things. Would have been nice to just be able to slam into them to collect, as using a sword attack a bit slow feeling... but fun!
Interesting idea! I struggled a little bit with the controls but I got used to it after a while. Must have been fun to make it :)
I really loved the look of the stars and and the bubble surrounding the ship! The rigging on the knight was also cool! It was fun to swim around in space!
That said, I found it a little too hard to navigate to the O2 and use it. I do like the concept of keeping your ship refueled though!
Interesting idea, but the feeling of controls are a bit oddly to play with. Anyway, GJ
Really cool! Loved the graphics too. I did find it a bit hard to control but I'm not very good at playing games haha. Good job! ^_^
Thanks everyone for playing!! The "opt out of ratings" checkbox was accidentally checked 😬😬😬
If you don't mind leaving a rating, we would really appreciate it!!!!
Pretty cool game! I enjoyed it!
Cool idea, I love the idea of a knight in space! But unfortunately I struggled with the controls, and it took me a minute to realise what I was supposed to do, floating in space is really difficult to get right! A bit of music or even a spacy drone would have gone a long way :)
Nice! Cool concept and the overall vibe works well with the theme. Controls felt pretty floaty (which I suppose is appropriate) but weren't too bad once I got used to them. Balance felt fine though it seemed potentially pretty easy to get too far from the ship and run out of oxygen given how fast it runs out (especially since I misread the ship O2 as personal O2 for the first couple minutes of the game). Eventually I ran out of things to collect and won, which was a bit of a surprise, I had assumed that I was just gonna die out in space :P Would be cool to see this with some more variety of obstacles or mechanics. Nice work!
Cool concept, though I believe there could be much more here. The controls are complicated, but I see how that's intentional. The knight seems like there'd be more stuff to him, but unfortunately there wasn't enough time. Looking forward to more of your projects!
I had a really hard time controlling my character but I'm not super experienced with keyboard movement anyway so it's probably just me 🤣 I liked the concept though and I agree with another comment that the "wooden ship in space" is super cool! Having someone outside of the ship to grab fuel and oxygen from space is a super dangerous job (evidenced by my dying several times lol) but I bet it pays well! Plus it seems like this is a "lone captain" kinda situation, and I'm imagining they're a trader hauling good from one place to another while recycling the junk in space into oxygen and fuel!
Very cool game, and very cool work on the engine. I think the camera being directly behind the player made it hard to see sometimes and awkward to control, maybe putting the camera a bit higher would help. Also, the game could probably use some more sound.
I couldn't quite see how to win, as I had collected almost everything in the level and the ship just kept going, but I had a good time anyway.
cool concept with interesting movement!
This game was a fun challenge. I think it would be good if the game was longer and got progressively harder (i.e. less and farther resources). I also liked how the spaceship was a sea ship in space.
Also, I'm impressed that you made the 3D engine!
This game was fun! At first when I would start the game the mouse cursor was still visible, which meant that when I would move to look it would move off of one monitor onto the next causing me to not be able to control anymore. Then I finally clicked at the beginning of the game, this makes the cursor disappear and then I was finally able to actually play the game. Once this happened, I found that the mouse really helps move the player to rotate up and down. Before this I could never leave the ship and then come back. Anyway, long story, but if the player had to click to start the game I think all of this could have been avoided. The game itself was fun after I read this page to figure out what I was supposed to do. I got really close to the end but must have missed some oxygen. My only suggestion would be to have a few things close at first. This gives the player some immediate success and then just progressively have more and more things farther and farther away. Well done!
You guys built on your own engine, amazing! The movements were very fluid and the game was fun!
Loved the movement of the knight and that you can still hear the sword after you died, like he's still trying!
The controls were somewhat clunky but anyone who makes their own engine gets big props from me
I think the concept is pretty cool, but maybe a bit hard to navigate. However that's pretty normal for LD entries, especially a 3D game! So don't worry about that :) Graphics are pretty cool and sound effects too, maybe some ambient background music/sound would be great, but again, it's not easy to do everything in one weekend.
PS: My wife was passing by and said "Hey, that looks like that space game you play... No Man Sky!"
So that's pretty cool aint it? :D
the game is very interesting, I liked it, the idea is good, continue at the same pace and you will become more professional
Wow, it's awesome!
Unfortunately, no webGPU support on my PC(
Reminds me of my submission for LD46, but a lot prettier! If you keep working on this, would love to see an item to speed up the ship and a timer, make it a little speed-runny.
Pros: * Gameplay was some of the most engaging that I've experienced in this jam. Constantly needing to manage resources, all while trying not to suffocate, made for a lot of tight and entertaining situations. Especially near the end, needing to manage fuel / oxygen for the long stretch where you aren't given any added an element of planning. * Visuals were some of the most consistent. I especially liked how you included graphics options; very innovative considering the 3 day time stretch.
Cons: * Including the sword initially made the game's purpose unclear; it conflicted with me being told that LClick was the grab control. I appreciate its charm, though, so it might work better as an "idle animation" of sorts; either that, or having enemies you need to kill. * The inertia felt a little unmanageable at times. I found, once I was headed in a specific direction, that it was very hard to suddenly flick the camera to change direction; I often continued moving along my original path, regardless of what I had to say about it.
Bugs: * Boat teleports back to its starting position after you win a round.
This game is overall among my favorites that I've played on this site; I felt constantly pressured for time, and its visuals gave it quite a lot of charm. I could see this taking off post-jam if the concept was expanded on; maybe having the boat land at certain destinations, which in & of themselves have sub-tasks? Either way, very solid presentation, and a lot of future promise.
It is nice to see that you made this game on your own game engine. Good luck with developing it further :D The game itself is quite humorous. I've managed to beat it with negative O2 in my ship. Also, the choice of assets is very interesting. (Spaceboat is great) :D
Fun game. At first control feels weird, but I get used to it.
