Incredible style and juicy effects! This game is punchy and satisfying right off the bat. The sound effects and VFX are top-tier. I also really love the teleport/dash animation. This is a brilliant blend of Snake and something akin to Geometry Wars. Great job, you guys!

zungryware 2023-10-03 08:08

Fantastic graphics and polish! This game just feels good to play. I especially liked the teleport animation even if I didn't use the ability much at all.

The fact that you only have one life makes things very tense all the way through, so there's no real rest break. There's a lot that can kill you in this game and missing one thing sets you all the way back to the start. I lost most of my runs to the Lazy Laser since there's no warning before it shoots. You just have to recognize the enemy by its model and know to stay out of its way. That's really hard to do when you have seven other things to keep track of.

Oh, and forcing me to take my hand off the controller so I can click the submit button after every run was rather annoying.

But overall this was a fun and well-polished game. Great work!

logicon211 2023-10-03 16:16

Very solid entry! I liked the change to the classic snake game. 360 movement and being able to portal through yourself and enemies is a cool addition. Having a leaderboard setup is also great, really makes me try to break into it.

I'm definitely coming back to this later. Good job!

nozomu57 2023-10-03 16:19

Awesome game! Would love to be able to skip the submit part and get straight into the game. Also most of the time I died to the laser enemy, too hard to react properly. Even a small telegraph before attack (drawing a line where the lazer will shoot) would be super helpful.

Anyways, replayed like 20 times, very addicting!

vyndilis 2023-10-03 16:27

This game is addictive! Great mix of genres. Good job!

kyle-farwell 2023-10-04 06:37

Fantastic! Fun take on Snake with great visuals, music, and voicing :)

driagonv 2023-10-04 11:24

Really well-polished, loved playing it. Always thought a snake twin-stick shooter was necessary lol.

n-feofentov 2023-10-04 14:23

Looks supercool and movement feels great. But it's a really requires skill to keep track on so many things: enemy projectiles, your position, your tail position. Couldn't get far but had a great time!

thebmxeur 2023-10-04 16:32

I'm very bad at that sort of game. I can't aim and at the same time avoid projectile, and avoid my body. I had a hard time distinguishing between enemies dying particles and enemies projectiles. Otherwise it was well polished, nice work.

rolferm 2023-10-04 16:49

awesome stuff! I wish i had more lives never really got very far.

picross 2023-10-04 17:05

@chompdev thank you so much for playing! Geometry Wars + Snake was our exact inspiration - i'm glad you caught that!

@zungryware appreciate all the feedback, thanks for always playing our games <3

@logicon211 great to hear!!! let us know if you get a high score on the leaderboard!!

@nozomu57 Great points! Glad you found it fun :D

@vyndilis @kyle-farwell @driagonv @rolferm thank you all for the kind words!

@n-feofentov @thebmxeur totally hear you. we plan on tweaking the difficulty and adding in some more difficulty modes post-jam. Thanks for playing, despite how hard it is!

tricky-fat-cat 2023-10-04 17:31

The game looks and plays fun. Like visuals and music, but aiming on arrows isn't a good idea in my opinion, mouse would have been better.

polite-prinny 2023-10-04 17:39

this feels really polished for a jam game, great job guys!

devook 2023-10-04 19:16

Amazing entry! Only thing I'd change is maybe shrinking the player's hitbox a little bit - had a couple "oh come on!" moments when trying to squeeze through a tight corridor. Otherwise though this is super polished; gameplay feels well-balanced and is incredibly addicting! Leaderboard was a great idea!

noagard 2023-10-05 07:24

Sounds and effect amazing! Very imprasive game!

kira-platon 2023-10-05 11:03

Amazaing game! The graphics are amazing because it matches the name "Cyber serpent". Everything is done in the same style and it's gorgerous. The effects in the game are cool, the mechanics are also clear and simple. Yhis is a very good job!

vr-corry 2023-10-05 16:35

An interesting iteration on Snake, it was a little unclear what would happen when something hits your tail. Bullet Hell meets Snake?

Graphic direction is amazing <3

shmi 2023-10-05 19:59

Really like this game, its confused me to need to use both hands independently but the fact that all the enemies have unique abilities and graphics look amazing in general.

rusty2117 2023-10-05 20:02

A nice take of snake but still has a kinda retro feel about it. The different enemies really add to experience. How do people get such a high score?! Love it

spicymarcus 2023-10-05 20:04

Very cool and polished game, as well as a super addictive gameplay loop! Well done!

smiley405 2023-10-05 22:26

this one is actually good. really good take on the calssic snake game. i can see the potential in this game. enjoyed playing it and loved the music. yah keep working on it after the jam ends aswell.

gentoogames 2023-10-06 00:20

didnt realize i was also getting an asmr experience with this game. those whispers activated my inner cyber-serpent! awesome entry, any game with a leaderboard is also such a perfect fit for the jam experience.

deadjolly 2023-10-06 02:42

Initially tried with keyboard controls but swapped to gamepad and the game was immediately much more fun. The gameplay was super smooth, the soundtrack was boppin', loved how when enemies died the cymbals crashed. Cool mashup of some classics like snake and geometry wars. PS: Thanks for rating our game!

allenski 2023-10-06 04:57

Really great game and really well polished :D

nondev 2023-10-06 16:28

Lots of fun. The only thing that bothered me was the delay in horizontal beams dissipating after you killed the enemy that shoots them. Great job!

picross 2023-10-06 17:20

@nondev thank you so much for playing! Nice high score, I see you on the leaderboard! :D And yes agreed, it's a bug we're ironing out!

bobbie 2023-10-06 18:00

a bit overwhelming at times but a SUPER fun entry! i'm very impressed you guys managed to not only put up an infinite mode and a curated challenge mode, but you also had time to set up an online leaderboard

catusfelony 2023-10-06 18:14

I love the gameplay loop, and though juggling moving and shooting is a little tough for me, causing to run into myself very often, even after learning how the dash worked, I couldn't get a good enough score to get to the top 10. Still, I liked this entry a lot!

Yes, yes, yes!

I thought the movement a little wonky at times, having played with the keyboard, the serpent takes a while to change directions, and though it *is* quick, for such a fast paced game, it still feels slow, and I've ran into enemies because of the "steering" delay...

jamesw 2023-10-06 18:17

A solid entry! Really love the fancy effects. Gameplay is a bit tough to me since I'm not good at this kind of shooting game. But it's still very fun. It's well polished and could be a mobile game in app stores. One of my favorite ones.

hagamosvideojuegos 2023-10-06 19:22

Wow! So addictive! I like it so much!

Well done! Take a candy! :candy:

falestress 2023-10-06 19:57

Really great game and so addictive. Very good job on this game ! :o The game is really well polished !

GG ! :)

kuviman 2023-10-07 00:39

sometimes my snake dashes without me pressing space/right click, am i missing smth or is it a bug?

picross 2023-10-07 03:45

@kuviman ah good catch, that was a bug! it was because we accidentally left the mobile touch screen controls on, oops! We updated the post-jam version to fix it. Thanks for letting us know, and congrats on your high score - I saw the leaderboard!

picross 2023-10-07 05:40

@devook ayyy thanks for the kind words! agreed, hitbox could definitely be a tad smaller!

@gentoogames LOL i love the old mac whisper tts voice, had to use it. thanks for the kind words!

@deadjolly yeah gamepad controls are definitely more appropriate for the game, glad it was easier once you tried that. Thanks for playing!

@catusfelony very fair! Would love to iron out the keyboard controls in a post jam build. Would rec trying with gamepad if you have one! Thanks for playing!

@jamesw appreciate all the compliments! thanks for playing even though its hard :D

@allenski @bobbie @falestress @hagamosvideojuegos thanks so much for playing!!

polina-fl 2023-10-07 15:23

Interesting game, kinda like snake, just an improved version ahahh

woergbi 2023-10-07 17:36

I love the modern take on a gaming classic. I think I spent too much time playing it, but I will definitely come back and play more anyway!

yndajas 2023-10-08 00:06

Brilliant. Great mashup of genres. Very tricky but very replayable. Somehow manages to balance feeling like classic snake with limited directions of movement and feeling really fluid. The excellent animation, style and polish really help! The game feel and the art style really go well together, and the animation and particle effects are very nice. Implementing two game modes in one weekend is also really impressive!

The only two suggestions that came to mind when playing it were: - a quicker way to restart an infinite run - you get kicked back to the main menu if you select the play again option - keyboard controls in the menu, and fixing the focus when hovering with the mouse

But overall, great entry!

kuviman 2023-10-08 04:15

- faster way to restart would be nice to have - when you put your name into leaderboard it puts me into main menu after 1 sec automatically - sometimes the horizontal beams kill me even when they have completely disappeared already. looks like their timing is shifted - they dont hurt in the beginning too - the shots from cheese blasts disappear but still look very similar, sometimes hard to know if they will or will not kill me - would be nice to have some visual indication of cheese blast enemies shooting cooldown - after you are dead you still can dash - need particles on players head when you die i think

good game. @camden-obertop im coming for that 1st place

picross 2023-10-08 17:45

@yndajas thanks so much for all the kind words! We’re so glad you enjoyed it :D Great feedback, I agree with both your points

picross 2023-10-08 17:46

@kuviman fantastic feedback, thanks so much!! @camden-obertop watch out 😤

ategon 2023-10-09 04:13

Hey, I’m the host of the Ludum Dare score chasers tournament for this jam

Wanted to ask for score chasers if you were fine with me playing some gameplay of your game in the background + play the music from your game in the waiting period. (As well as if you were fine if I played your game music while competitors are playing your game if it gets picked as one of the games played in the competition). In the waiting periods its going to play tracks from games one at a time (entire track unless the waiting period ends) and while a track is playing itll cycle through gameplay from a bunch of different games in the background

picross 2023-10-09 14:19

@ategon Sure, we’d be honored! I can send you the bgm file that has the kick drum playing the whole time (it ducks down in audio if you stop shooting in game). Let me know what the best place to send it would be (or i can upload it to youtube or something and link it here!)

ategon 2023-10-09 14:33

@picross Thanks, Best place would be on discord, would need an actual audio file so it can be edited into a video properly. Score chasers discord is at https://discord.gg/FhP4jaZ7KS for sharing a server so dms work. Discord username is just same as my name here

kuviman 2023-10-11 07:51

Ok it took way longer than I thought it would but here we are ez game

picross 2023-10-11 20:53

@kuviman congrats you madman

martenscedric 2023-10-13 02:04

I love games that are mechanically simple and super well polished! Good job!

petunio 2023-10-13 03:24

Excellent entry, the polish on this is incredible. I feel with some polish this bad boy could be at Steam as well. Good job all around!

senso 2023-10-13 07:15

Yes, please provide me with some juice! This presentation is exceptionally well-crafted. I appreciate the unique approach to the voice-over(whisper-like) top quality. The addition of the Portal feature adds a captivating and stylish dimension to the overall experience.

Furthermore, I'm curious if you've also incorporated dynamic music into the project? The interplay between visuals and sound enhanced the immersive quality of any interactive venture.

I experimented with various control methods, such as using a controller, a mouse, and arrow keys, and I must say, all of them functioned seamlessly and offered a truly exceptional user experience. Your entry is truly impressive and stands out among the competition. This feels like a finished game :)

picross 2023-10-13 08:00

@martenscedric @petunio thank you both for playing, and for the kind words!

@senso we're so happy you enjoyed it! There is a touch of dynamic music, good ear! The kick drum track only plays when you're shooting bullets. The bullets have a fixed rate that roughly syncs to the BPM. I also created all the SFX so they're in the same key as my backing track. If they don't have a melodic pitch, I make sure they fit into the soundscape (like the enemy death noise, which is a 909 crash cymbal that fits with my other house drums). The music's segments roughly time with the backgrounds changing. I really wanted to create that authentic early-2000s acid trance/techno vibe!

Glad to hear all the controls worked for you! My favorite way to play is by moving with the left thumbstick on controller, but by aiming with my right hand on the mouse. Best of both worlds! Thanks for all the kind feedback!

senso 2023-10-13 08:42

Ah yes good one, mouse and controller haven't tried that combo. Thanks for explaning what you did on the audio (learened something).

keely-brown 2023-10-14 12:18

The voice over work really pushed this from "incredibly well polished game jam game" to "experience that I will carry forward with me for the rest of my life."

Thank you Cyber Serpent, for telling me how much of a good job I am doing.

fupi 2023-10-14 17:53

This is outlandishly polished and juicy, goddamn. Beautifully cohesive audiovisual style. I couldn't get very far unfortunately, but this game is so satisfying to play I could keep going again and again. The words of encouragement in my ear helped a lot too lol, that's a funny touch. I really have nothing to say about this that hasn't already been said, this game is so perfect, precise and intentional, that it doesn't feel like it was created by humans.

Captura de tela 2023-10-14 145214.png

picross 2023-10-15 01:39

@keely-brown aw shucks we appreciate it! yes i was tired of games insulting my skills so i added words of aspiration LOL

@fupi omg thank you for the art I love it so much! we definitely went for a simpler idea this jam and it allowed us to polish it up a ton. I promise it was lovingly crafted by humans... or was it ;) thanks for playing :D

btw we are big fans of The Rock that game cracked us up, we streamed it on our dev discord on 2 separate occasions

fupi 2023-10-15 02:56

@picross And you didn't invite me to watch?! Shame on you 😭😭 (thanks <3)

I'm still in awe of the style, this game has that Polybius-like quality to it where it feels like a forbidden piece of technology engineered to brainwash the masses, in this case with words of affirmation. This is the kind of game I could see a dead-faced teenager play with a neuralink in a post-apocalyptic cyberfuture movie. Simply unreal.

dsk 2023-10-15 15:30

Really like the core gameplay and art style, nice job:)

its little hard for me at first ,but I get hang of it quickly XD

kanity 2023-10-17 21:34

Wow, that's the best take on the old "Snake" game I ever saw +_+ I didn't realize it right away, but halfway through playing it suddenly struck me xD and I am a big sucker for nostalgia! The audio for the game is just fantastic, definitely giving this one full 5 for audio because it's the best I heard in this jam, for me personally. It fits the game so well, music and sounds, and at the same time somehow adds to my feeling of nostalgia <3 Loved the enemies designs as well, so unique and pretty. Really cool game!

picross 2023-10-18 16:50

@dsk we are so glad you enjoyed it! i'm glad you got the hang of it - it can definitely be tricky!

@kanity thank you!! i love snake and i love geometry wars and they just seemed to naturally fit together. i'm so happy you liked the audio! i'm still pretty new to audio design and music composition so it means a lot!!

daveco 2023-10-18 23:49

Wow! This is such a cool idea to build on top of snake!
