Looks great for a Compo game! Clever twist on the theme. Good replayability and holds the attention for a while.

nox282 2023-05-01 04:27

Clever! We thought of that interpretation, but we couldn't find a way to pull it off. You did it though, and it's pretty well polished. Great job!

cheesepencil 2023-05-01 04:33

I love how it fits in one fully coherent package, and has a distinct mood (the color scheme and fisheye zoom in camera effect really brings it home)

jakeblake 2023-05-01 04:37

The art was really good! And I enjoyed playing something without deliverables in it

netrunner-nobody 2023-05-01 04:42

Here we go, my first five star rating of the night!

This is incredible. It's a unique twist on the theme 'delivery' that still very much fits. The art is buttery smooth, the voice font adds a lot to the atmosphere, the mechanics are functional and interesting - while also leading to funny results.

I think I would've maybe liked a bit more of it - but that's just a sign that the game is good, you know? Anyway, great work - I'd be happy to see this win the compo.

seurimas 2023-05-01 04:45

I like the style. I also considered a stand-up game, but I think yours is a lot better than mine would have been. If you could have found time for just a little more feedback on scoring, that would be my first ask. Good job!

glove 2023-05-01 05:05

@nox282 I know what you mean. I was worried people wouldn't understand the connection to the theme so I felt I had to plaster it in the title of the game and tutorial.

@cheesepencil @jakeblake I'm glad y'all enjoyed the art! First time using unity's post processing and yet I am very happy with how it turned out! Also, yeah... not that the standard deliverable game is bad, but it is repetitive so I'm glad I could break up some monotony

@netrunner-nobody Aw shucks! That is the single nicest comment I have received in a Game Jam! (other people reading this, feel free to one up them; I don't mind :D) I agree it would be nice to have more stories and more cards and more content overall, but when is that not the case in a Jam.

@seurimas Totally agree, I wish I had time to balance the scoring and to make it more intuitive, but as it stands I made something that is too complex for me to understand yet it outputs score similar to what I would otherwise award.

dzejpi 2023-05-01 14:14

That was very fun and original take on the theme. You nailed the colors down, and everything together created a great mood! Card choices were very funny and I think this could even be its own card game. Well done!

rickylee 2023-05-01 14:59

Amazing! ^^ I played a few times, got different stories and I still wasn't very good at gauging what would be good for score, I also love to play a longer mode, did you keep it shorter because after a while every card would become a call back? haha. These are 2 scores that when playing one of them seemed to me way better but in the end they both came out basically the same score :skull:

snakemuho 2023-05-01 16:46

I'm something of a comedian myself

nick-baggett 2023-05-01 17:27

Really unique take on the theme, nice job!

elementary 2023-05-01 19:28

You really nailed the overall atmosphere. The tutorial could have been better explained, since it took me a while to figure out how to combine the cards. Maybe add an option to restart after finishing would be a good addition, since the game doesn't really take too long and you'd usually want to increase your score after finishing.

corporation 2023-05-01 19:48

Very clever and original idea to combine card game with standup performance. As a card games lover I enjoyed it. Some mechanics were not clear to me, also I found some problems with cards text and sorting, that led to me not being able to play a card, that was covered by others. Also the visual style is very nice and fits to the game mood.

@dzejpi @nick-baggett Glad y'all enjoyed it!

@elementary I wanted to have a whole sequence where you are introduced to the mechanic by helping the guy introduce the crowd. Sadly time crunch is ever-present, but that is the origin of "the crowd here tonight" card.

@rickylee Fun fact, the game is fully prepared to incorporate more stories were I to have had a chance to have written more. Additionally, I added then later removed a "forgetting" mechanic in which cards would lose their Call Back after a couple of turns, but once I saw how short the game was going to be I got rid of it.

@snakemuho We do occasionally partake in tomfoolery.

@corporation As a card game lover myself, I stated before seeing the theme that I would make a card game and here we are! The text bug is thanks to me not fully understanding Unity's TextMeshPro.

nathan-franck 2023-05-01 21:33

Graphics make the text hard to read THOUGH the camera work over the pixel surface with the edge distortion is really nice - so, mixed.

Sound is a bit anxiety inducing, but I appreciate the banjo-style voice work.

Scoring, is it arbitrary? Ultimately I couldn't figure it out. Maybe scoring would be a good task for ChatGPT :)

The idea is great, but the execution makes it a hard game to play. --- If the music and sound were appropriately up-beat and the colors were cooler and more comfortable, it probably would have meshed better.

sudocoffee 2023-05-02 00:06

Sound design here is awesome! I loved that every single sound effect had a pool of sounds that were randomly selected between. It sounded very natural (for a bunch of beeps and boops).

At first I missed the part of the tutorial that explained where to drop the cards, so it took a second to figure out where to place things. It might be more intuitive if the dialogue box got pointed out when picking up a card.

dishwand 2023-05-02 01:54

i'm not sure if you intended for it to be read as a sort of surreal, pilotredsun-esque fever dream, but that's what i got and i totally love it. really great use of visual & audio polish to create an atmosphere, and clever combination of mechanics! could totally see a "singleplayer jackbox games" mechanic taking off

torte478 2023-05-02 14:31

Great visual and main idea. Nice submission!

delequesce 2023-05-02 14:37

This was a really cool idea, almost like a cards against humanity comedian game. I love the idea of card combining, but I did find in my play-through that I quickly ran out of cards that made any sense and just had a bunch of nonsense. Still a fun concept though and very impressive for a Compo!

yellow-attic 2023-05-02 21:07

Awesome idea and implementation! I really like that you thought "out of the box".

theguy 2023-05-02 22:51

The interpretation of the theme is quite unique, but so well done. Also the graphics are amazing.

A well rounded package. Nice job!

glove 2023-05-03 02:10

@torte478 @theguy @yellow-attic I'm glad y'all enjoyed the game <3

@delequesce Unfortunately a safety feature turned into an annoying bug that I only realized after submission time. Basically, you would get soft-locked if you didn't have a noun, so I made it check to see if you had a noun in hand already and if not, find a noun in the deck to draw guaranteed. However, I guess something bugged out with the HandHasNoun check meaning you only draw nouns at the start of each turn. It's a bummer but I feel like the game has enough replay value for people to restart and get new modifiers. Regardless, glad you enjoyed!

@nathan-franck I hadn't thought about that interpretation, but you're totally right. I was going for the warm-and-cozy vibe with a hint of anxiety (the increasing vignette during the joke reading) to match how the novice stand-up comedian was feeling–nervous. On one hand I'm glad that side of things came through, but I hope you still had a chance to enjoy the rest :)

@dishwand That is quite the complement to be compared to pilotredsun! Glad you enjoyed.

lvl99chicken 2023-05-03 02:56

Really unique game! Loved the art style, audio and mood. The sound for the cards being distributed was really cool and added nice touch.

t-c 2023-05-03 05:44

I really enjoyed the combining of cards. Never got higher than a C, but it didn't matter, the game itself was very well done!

hcs-hades 2023-05-03 16:20

wow wow wow, you Compo crowd are mad lads! This is unreal for one person in 48 hours!!!!

Art on point, mechanics on point, SFX reminded me of Banjo Kazooie aka on point.

Nice work!

lady 2023-05-03 18:41

oh man i don't know how to land a delivery in life or this game. The game is a great take on the theme! Even if I'm not funny I enjoyed it.

noobman64 2023-05-04 00:59

I can't really say much that others have not already said. Excellent twist on the theme, amazing art and fun game-play. I appreciate the ability to skip the tutorial too. I think having some kind of UI element to restart the game instead of refreshing the browser would be nice, but that's not a big deal. Unfortunately, much like real life, I am not a good comedian and only got a C on my standup. In any case amazing work, I hope you expand on it!

macs 2023-05-04 03:06

I can't believe this is a compo game! So polished all around. The mechanics seem pretty unique and interesting, I would love to play with the content fleshed out more. It felt a bit too easy, or maybe that was just the luck of my draw. ItsAllInTheDelivery.PNG

olddog 2023-05-04 14:57

cool game idea!!!like this game so much, and game mood is perfect

island-jam-2-group-3 2023-05-04 20:56

Loved the style of the game :-) I felt the text too slow, missing it to be faster or even skippable but other than that I enjoyed it. Congrats!

glove 2023-05-05 03:01

@olddog @lvl99chicken @hcs-hades @lady @t-c I really glad y'all enjoyed it <3

@island-jam-2-group-3 I get it is unlikely for you to replay the game, but holding down the mouse button speeds up the text (and my banjo-esque voice to the point I sound like a chipmunk). Glad you enjoyed otherwise!

@noobman64 Totally agree, just wasn't time. I'm happy that you wanted to replay it though; I tried to ensure each run is different, and it seems like stuff like skipping the tutorial was appreciated too :)

@macs those callback points 0_0! That aside, the only thing I didn't get to in my 'necessary' to-do list was to add more cards and stories; maybe I can add that on after the jam is over.

grid96 2023-05-05 12:01

Very cool and unique interpretation of the theme! I also love the visual style, that makes it even more artistic. The voice felt a little bit cut off though, maybe there is a way to make it sound more smooth somehow.

All in all a very good concept and implementation with a lot of potential! Looking forward to seeing your entries in the next jams :)

fabian-denter 2023-05-06 13:01

Great idea, was hoping someone interpreted the theme this way! Great execution and though I am not a funny guy (apparently, I got a D) I had a very good time with this game. Nice entry!

hakro 2023-05-08 09:13

I really liked the idea, and how the theme was interpreted in this particular case. The graphics, mood and audio are working very nicely together as well. Over all, a very good entry; Cheers

katamary 2023-05-08 12:40

Brilliant idea! It's really fun to make a sentences that make me laugh. Nice work! Good luck!

surweaver 2023-05-09 10:27

Great game! The mechanics with callbacks are very cool. I went on my first date to the zoo and got ready for a session with the preschool's janitor. I also took a flamethrower on a date, and it was stolen from me next to the bookshelves. It's very funny even without game conventions :D

I would to see more stories to tell. It's a single player card game, it's great. I don't know the name of that non-single-player-game where you insert nouns but it was cool to play by myself! That's a nice palette for a game but I suppose comedian's neck is merging with the background because of small amount of colors. I'm saying just in case.

Awesome entry!

gamescodedogs 2023-05-18 12:16

Impressive! Great amount of work was made in just a 48 hours. I hope, you can make it a good big game. Good luck and thank you for your entry.
