I had a good time playing to your game ! ^^ Playing a Kitten trying to save the world made me smile tho. I finished it twice. The mechanics are pretty fun and I really appreciated the puzzles. Nice work !

2021-04-27 14:31

Challenging game! I included it in my compilation video series of a bunch of LDJAM games! https://youtu.be/R25_tXZwmbw

nazorus 2021-04-27 15:14

That was really good! I like the aesthetics, the cute animations, the lighting, and how fluid the game feels. My only gripe is that aliens seem to detect you from any distance, even when they're off-screen, which can make the game pretty difficult at times, but other than that I had a great time. The music also does a good job at setting the mood.

One last thing as a fellow french dev, I appreciate that you included ZQSD in the control schemes, merci bien

Good job on this entry!

sheinxy 2021-04-27 15:27

@nazorus je n'oublierai jamais mes camarades en azerty! :D

tim4 2021-04-27 15:36

HA-HA that was funny! I died many times on each level, but that was cool. Good Job!

quantumseagull 2021-04-27 15:54

I enjoyed this game. The idea of distracting the aliens with light and sound was perfect. On the final level took some trial and error until I understod what I was supposed to do, and when I figured out I think there was some kind of glitch where instead of showing me the end-screen, the level reset. It worked on the next try though. Well executed and a good take on the theme. I can totally see this turning into a longer game with more kitten-inspired mechanics. Good job!

My only suggestion is that a more traditional "fog of war" effect would perhaps make more sense and fit the graphics style more than the invisible light source.

sheinxy 2021-04-27 15:58

@quantumseagull Oh, a "fog of war" effect would be a clever idea indeed, I didn't think of that!

klaus-peter 2021-04-27 15:59

It was kind of difficult to understand the map layouts in the pitch dark but I played through. It was really fun :D

Edit: also the music really got me. Props to your boyfriend.

A story about a courageous kitten and malicious aliens...

Fantastic opening. The art is lovely. The decoy is such an interesting mechanic. I had trouble using it since it felt like the cat attracted more attention than it did, but that may be intentional. Cats are more interesting than decoys, after all.

sheinxy 2021-04-27 16:17

@abigailcorfman yeah, cats are more interesting than decoys ! :3c

adamsmccall 2021-04-27 21:23

Awesome game ! I like those kind of simple yet fun stories. The levels were quite challenging too, I was stuck for some time on the third one. Really nice, great job ! :ok_hand:

xxnolanxx 2021-04-28 03:11

Really enjoyed this one! The graphics were awesome and the gameplay worked super well. Got to the end wishing it was longer. Great job to you both!

thearchitect 2021-04-28 03:15

Wow!! A interesting game WITH a cute cat? is there anything better ?

sheinxy 2021-04-28 03:22

@thearchitect an interesting game with TWO cute cats would be better :3c

toreole 2021-04-28 10:18

This is really nice. I like the text with the sounds, that even stop when you skip the text writing effect, nice little touch.

Sometimes its a bit hard to tell where the aliens are looking / where you can be seen, but once you figure it out it plays out really nicely. Good game!

squerf 2021-04-28 10:28

Nice, I like it :) I sometimes felt I was winning levels through chance more than skill but that just added to the entertainment.

metalfox-dioxymore 2021-04-28 10:33

Damn, one of the only games that made me smile doesn't have a "humor" rating xD !

That game was solid ! Getting rushed by off-screen aliens was a bit frustrating at times, so maybe having a wider camera angle could help, but otherwise, that was really good ! I loved the art, the light work and the music, and the luring mecanic is an interesting twist ! Also, games with proper introduction/ending are not common in game jams, so kudos for that =) !

sheinxy 2021-04-28 11:09

@metalfox-dioxymore yeah I was a bit unsure about whether or not I should opt-out of the humor category because I was like "yeah nooooo people are probably not going to find it to deserve to be in this category" But looks like I was wrong on that x3

iorena 2021-04-28 11:21

Great game! Difficulty was perfect, had to try the last levels a couple of times but finally figured it out. Wish there were more levels to play.

skvader-418 2021-04-28 12:47

the graphics look extremly good, some of the art and sound effects remind me of the escapists, wich i like a lot ,the enemies are visible in the dark areas wich is a thing i completly failed at so good job at that ,the stealth gameplay can be fixed a little bit for example the guards shouldnt be able to see behind them selves, wich is a problem i had on the 3rd level, where he ignores the decoy and just goes straight tworvards me ,the difficulty scaling can be fixed slightly but its not a huge problem ,the controls are really easy to learn an understand ,the game its self teaches you the controls trough the game rather than a massive boring tutorial level ,the scrolling text is really cute .overall a briliant game that is simple to learn and play i am impressed ...........................

oh and thanks for saving our planet

eugenik 2021-04-28 14:51

Atmosphere is very impressive, so love it

lithia-studios 2021-04-28 15:56

Nice graphics and music and gameplay as well! Was pretty fun..

akronsus 2021-04-28 20:10

Thanks for saving the world from this alien invasion ;)

dotsquare 2021-04-28 20:57

I loved it! currently the only stealth game I’ve played on this LD so that’s refreshing! The only thing that was annoying is the same text that always pop over and over when you die (I suck at video game so a lot in my case haha), maybe it would be better if it was desactivated after your first try Apart from that it was super cool! huge congrats for this entry :)

nikolaj 2021-04-28 21:00

yeah the part where i get devoured by a cat-come-green-alien is a positively terrifying use of only a few pixels.

extar 2021-04-28 21:00

Lovely graphics in this game. I'm on board for pretty much any game that lets you play as a cat. There's a really steep learning curve with this game, I think it would be nice to maybe have some less attentive aliens at the start until you learn the ropes. Also, pretty brutal that the aliens can see you from any distance. Still, stylish graphics, cool stealth mechanics and some moody glitchy music. Love it :)

wouter52 2021-04-28 21:13

Love your game, it its relaxing for the mind and the music fits perfectly. The graphics are outstanding, I like that style a lot. Well done sir!

Also, I'm a impatient guy. I don't like reading, so lots of text I just skip. Good thing it comes back everytime the cat dies, because I did not read that I could use a decoy

sheinxy 2021-04-28 21:52

@dotsquare well just see @wouter52's reply to understand why I decided that the text should not be deactivated when you respawn! :3c

wouter52 2021-04-28 21:55

😇

tofubravado 2021-04-29 14:08

Very cute and I love the style! I'm not good at it but I love the decoy mechanic, very good idea.

jfroggg 2021-04-29 15:28

The comment like and share definitely worked. I need to remember that for next time. I love the graphics btw the audio seemed laggy on my computer not sure if that issue is on my audio driver though. Very nice though guys can't wait to see what you do next :)

iluvatar 2021-04-29 15:54

This was fun. Very challenging but fun. I really loved the NES-ish vibes from graphics and audio.

asdehielo 2021-04-29 18:41

Such a cute game! Nice art and illumination work, and the gameplay was simple and effective. I liked the story too.

One minor complaint is that I couldn't see the enemies on the bigger levels because the camera view was too small. Perhaps allowing to move the camera with the mouse would solve this.

Very enjoyable entry!

fenno-boomgaarden 2021-04-29 20:46

Loved it. Nicely polished, cool mechanics, solid gameplay, good music. I would like to see some more levels

trexxak 2021-04-29 21:49

While on the shorter end, your understanding of a sensible learning curve really shined through. I never felt like the game was cheating me, and every level felt fresh and interesting. I was also very fond of the decoy-mechanic :D

littlew00d 2021-04-29 22:21

The story and humour was wonderful, but the aliens being able to see you regardless of their movement direction and your ability to see them on screen felt a little unfair.

Overall a nice short story with nice graphics and music.

willjardine 2021-04-29 22:39

This is adorable and super well made. Awesome job!

norris-eldridge 2021-04-29 22:46

Awesome! The second level was really hard for me until I realized I was just way overthinking it lol The game works really well, the art and music is solid and the story / writing is really well done! Good work!

srrinio 2021-04-29 23:36

That was a cute game, the pixel art, text graphics and sound was really great, but was a bit out of the theme

doctortm 2021-04-30 01:13

Nice jam, a bit hard though.

digital-bacon 2021-04-30 01:19

Nice game. A bit hard, I died waaay to often. Love the art style! Good work.

rubixnoob13 2021-04-30 06:19

Fun little game, and a different take than a lot of the submarine-related games I've played so far :) (Even tho most of them were good, that was an idea I noticed a lot of people seem to have come up with all at once lol) Anyway, I'm rambling. The pixel art is adorable, really one of the only critiques I have is that the hitbox for pushing buttons was a little bigger than the cat, so sometimes I would push a button before I even got to the button, which threw off my brain just a tiny bit. But still, fun game, catchy music, and thanks for your suggestion on my game, because you were right about positional audio being why things were only coming out of the left ear :)

wizard-sino 2021-05-01 15:43

The art is cute and the game is fun!

peace-of-cake-games 2021-05-03 05:45

Wow, that last level really challenged my puzzle-solving skills.... took me a while to figure out that the aliens target buttons.

Really nice job! No bugs to report, great graphics, and some epic beats to set the mood.

omiya-games 2021-05-06 02:23

Uh, oh. I'm, like, the worst person to rate stealth games, since I hate them with a dying passion. So, uh, take that into account when I write my review below.

I generally like the dark atmosphere the game provides. The use of lighting and shadows does a great job of instilling the feel of how dangerous this mission is. For the most part, I like the decoy mechanic as well. While it's use is a bit short-lived, it still opens up a lot of possibilities for the player to come up with creative ideas on its utilization.s

That said, one of my least favorite attribute is how sensitive the aliens are to your presence. Given each alien is lit with a red lighting circle, I thought that meant the aliens detection system was based on distance. After a bit of testing, though, it became clear to me their detection-system was based on line-of-sight; distance had no effect in deterring their attention. This often lead to moments where an alien off-screen would ambush me, despite me having no way of reacting since I can't see the party-pooper. It would have been nice to add a method to change the camera location, e.g. with mouse or right-stick on the controller, so it gave the player a method of look-ahead. I also honestly think the game should probably be better lit so it's easier to convey the line-of-sight based system you have.

I also would have liked it if the alien detection system wasn't so insta-death. Adding a method for the player to improvise would have helped. For example, perhaps add a margin of time where the alien detects your presence, but also stops at that spot before dashing towards your direction. Perhaps one could drop a decoy if they're fast enough to ward away their attention briefly.

Still, the experience was short and sweet enough to be entertaining. I can certainly see this game expanded with a few more improvements.

super-hadoken 2021-05-07 10:09

I second the fog of war idea. Fortunately, the levels were small so working out where to go wasn't that bad after a few deaths. Cute graphics and neat decoy idea. It could have done with a few more levels but overall the game was fun and engaging.

qyouk 2021-05-15 12:21

I don't know it was what you wanted but I played it like a "trial&error" game instead of a true stealth game. Some ennemies can't be avoided if they see you, sometimes they even see you before you do and the fact that the levels are short was helping me to memorize what path to take after a few tries. So in the end I had a lot a fun playing it, the mood was cool, the pixel art is beautiful, good work!
