| Aug 13 13:50:59 | Running Out of Space LDJ42 | ♥ 3 | This is a pretty creative idea. combining a match 3 game with a platformer is pretty clever and leads to some fun gameplay. I really like how hectic the game can get as the boxes just keep piling on. It just goes to show how a few simple rules can come together to make something really enjoyable. The visuals are also well done, and I like the cute robot guy. The music is pretty groovy and adds to mood of the game. Overall, this is a simple, yet effective game. Nice work! | |
| Aug 13 14:10:47 | 19m 48s | Dash Brawler | ♥ 3 | This is a pretty unique concept. Dashing feels energetic and is fun to pull off. I like how dashing both shrinks the arena and also stuns the opponent. But dashing also comes with some risk, as it knocks out the platform you land on and leaves you open to an enemy attack should you miss. It feels like the game gets a lot out of this one simple dashing mechanic and has a lot of depth because of it. The pixelated art-style looks nice and I enjoy the monochrome aesthetic, although the lack of a walk animation and music is a bit disappointing. Despite some issues, I enjoyed my time playing this clever little game. Nice work! |
| Aug 13 14:42:11 | 31m 24s | Super Crate Hoarder | ♥ 1 | Taking an existing game and adding a small tweak is an interesting idea. Even though it's a small change, it really does change how the game plays. The constantly changing shape of the level made for a very dynamic experience. It's interesting that the enemies are also blocked by the crates, meaning you can use them as barricades and play strategically around them. I found that enemies tended to bunch up because of the crates blocking their way, which created these no-win scenarios where a whole bunch of enemies were surrounding the next crate. Perhaps some other small change could have remedied this problem. In the end, making a small tweak to a game's rules is an interesting thought experiment, but I think it could have used a few more tweaks to really make it shine. Still, I had a lot of fun playing this game and it is definitely a solid entry. |
| Aug 13 14:59:42 | 17m 31s | Into Asteroid Belt | ♥ 2 | This is a fairly simple game. but it's well put together for what it is. I like how the asteroids bounce off of each other, creating a chaotic and dynamic environment. The Game Boy inspired monochrome aesthetic is neat, although it would be nice if you could make the window a bit bigger. Overall, is a fairly bare bones game, but it's solid for what it is, and I certainly had fun playing it. Good job! |
| Aug 13 15:21:42 | 22m 00s | A New Kingdom | ♥ 1 | This is a fairly simple game, but there a lot of small touches that really elevate it. I like the fast fall mechanic, as it adds an extra layer of depth to the movement and contributes to the fast paced, manic feeling of the game. Having optional people to save is a smart design decision, as it creates a tension between going slow to help the people and going fast to avoid the lava. The color pallet really helps to contribute towards towards this hot feeling and the up tempo music makes me want to go fast. Even though the premise and gameplay are pretty basic, all of these small elements help reinforce the the fast paces, hectic tone of the game. Overall, this is a solid entry. Good work! |
| Aug 13 15:36:19 | 14m 37s | CLAMPRESSOR File Archiver | ♥ 1 | I like it! The premise is pretty simple, but well executed. While most puzzle games tend to feel slow, this one was very fast paced. I like how energetic the whole thing feels, especially when the music speeds up as you're running out of time. I really like the narrative theming as it fits well with the gameplay, since you aren't getting rid of tiles, but rather just compressing three into one. The cutscenes were also pretty funny. Overall, this is a simple game, but one that was a blast to play. Nice work! |
| Aug 13 16:11:56 | 35m 37s | The Not Very Golden Age of Piracy | ♥ 5 | This game is pretty brilliant. First off, the audio and visuals are just top notch, with excellent sprite work and amazing voice acting. The humor was on point too; in addition to the initial premise and funny dialog, I especially love the little Easter eggs that would sometimes show up as the enemy ship was pulling away. On top of all that, the gameplay is also amazing. I like the micromanagement you have to do, and the tension between repairing the ship and arming the cannons makes for some hectic action. I especially love how the broken floor creates an obstacle for your babies, adding an extra twist to navigation. Overall, this game is spectacular. Fantastic work! |
| Aug 13 17:10:22 | 58m 26s | Mob Floor | ♥ 1 | I like the detailed pixel art style and the little character sprites. The music is pretty groovy too. Having to throw enemies off of the stage is an interesting idea, but I feel that the combat is a bit bare bones and repetitive. Despite my issues with the combat, this is an overall solid entry. Good job! |
| Aug 13 19:05:11 | 1h 54m | Warehouse | ♥ 1 | This is a pretty interesting concept. I like the idea of combining Tetris-like block sorting with a top down perspective and a controllable character. It's also interesting that you let the player decide when they want to finish, giving the game a sort of risk/reward aspect. One thing I noticed is that you can just use blocks to clog the conveyor belt so that no blocks will ever leave the screen, giving you as much time as you want. Overall, this is a pretty solid game. Good job! |
| Aug 13 19:22:16 | 17m 05s | Pig Pile | ♥ 1 | This is a pretty unique game. I like how you're given a short period before the pigs start to spawn to gather ammo, and the music change that comes along with it is a nice touch. One thing I'd like to praise in particular is the enemy death animations, which are very smooth and fun to watch. My main criticism for the game would be its repetitiveness, as I feel like I'm just going around killing the same enemies without much change. Perhaps some sort of ramp up in difficulty or a wave structure with breaks in between would help the pacing. Despite any criticism, this is definitely a solid game that I enjoyed playing. Good work! |
| Aug 13 20:06:37 | 44m 21s | Globulator | ♥ 1 | This is a pretty unique concept. It took me a little while to figure out how everything worked, but, once I figured it out, I had a lot of fun. I like how you can kill enemies by ramming into them, but doing so creates harmful waste, creating a sort of risk vs reward mechanic. I enjoyed the crowd control gameplay, although it could get a bit out of hand when the crowds of enemies get big enough. Overall, this is a solid game. Nice work! |
| Aug 13 20:53:45 | 47m 08s | S.P.A.C.E. Module Collectors | ♥ 1 | This is a pretty well put together game. I'm really impressed that you were able to make something fully 3D in just 72 hours. One detail I appreciated was how the character aims up when next to a wall so that the gun doesn't clip into the wall. That said, the gameplay is pretty basic and gets repetitive. Instead of repeating the same room layout over and over, it would have been nice to see rooms with different sizes and shapes, different enemies, and maybe some rooms without enemies. Despite the lack of variety, this is a solid entry and an impressive one for 72 hours. Good work! |
| Aug 13 21:09:52 | 16m 07s | Dilan vs. Trees | ♥ 1 | This is a pretty neat game. I dig the fake 3D sprite based look. It felt satisfying to mow down all of those trees, although it did get a bit repetitive after a while. I really like the "reality bending" effect that happens when you get enough crystals. The game was pretty tough, and I found myself dying a lot whenever I came across a group of skeletons. Despite that, I had a lot of fun with this game. Nice work! |
| Aug 14 01:13:48 | 4h 03m | As the world burns | ♥ 1 | This game is really fun. I love how fast paced and hectic it feels. The constantly encroaching fire really puts the pressure on you to hurry up, and the rad background music really adds to that feeling. On top of that, I also like the colorful pixel art style. I don't really have many complaints for this one, it's just a really solid, fun game. Amazing work! |
| Aug 14 01:30:09 | 16m 21s | Will Survive | ♥ 3 | The visuals of this game are pretty good. I like the little chibi pixel art lumber jack character. The opening cutscene was also well done, and the music was fitting. The obvious complaint would be with the basic, repetitive gameplay. If the gameplay doesn't have much variety, it would probably make sense to lower the time limit, as 6 minutes was a bit too long to be doing the same cycle. Still, this is a pretty solid entry with a lot of visual polish. Good work! |
| Aug 14 01:45:58 | 15m 49s | Crystalmancer | ♥ 1 | This game is pretty fun. I enjoyed the zelda-esque dungeon navigation and the gameboy inspired aesthetic. The chibi pixel art style overall was very effective. Having dead enemies block off spaces is an interesting idea, as it makes you change your tactics with the shifting terrain. My only major gripe with this game is how tricky it is to dodge certain enemies when they first spawn in. Other than that, this is a very solid entry. Nice work! |
| Aug 14 02:03:33 | 17m 35s | The Flesh Pit | ♥ 1 | This game is pretty freaking great. First of all, I am in love with the fleshy, hellish aesthetic. The enemy designs are totally wild! The background audio, while minimal, does do a good job of reinforcing this theme. On top of all that, the gameplay is really well designed. Slowly building up a tower of meat is really satisfying and makes the gameplay very dynamic. Not only does this allow you to go further up, but it also lets you access areas to the side you couldn't reach before. I also like the rump up in enemies as you get further into the game. The game always felt like it was changing, never getting dull or repetitive. I also like all the different weapons you get to pick up, and how you can throw them right before they run out of durability. my only gripe with the game is how jumping could feel a bit clunky, as you lose a lot of horizontal momentum when jumping. Despite that one small gripe, this is a fantastic game. Excellent work! |
| Aug 14 02:15:15 | 11m 42s | Reaper Boy LD42 (Remix) Edition | ♥ 1 | This game is really cute! It feels like something out of an old arcade game. I really like the design of the reaper and all the little enemies. The lighthearted music is also very fitting. As for the gameplay, I enjoyed the use of screen wrapping. Needing to screen wrap to build up enough speed to squash the enemies is a clever idea. Overall, I enjoyed this game a lot. Great work! |
| Aug 14 02:24:32 | 9m 17s | Shrinking Dungeon | ♥ 1 | The link you posted is the link to your account's dashboard to edit the game, so it won't work for anyone but you. |
| Aug 14 02:44:14 | 19m 42s | TINY TOWNS | ♥ 0 | This is a pretty clever little puzzle game. I like how you have to work around the limited space to complete your objectives. The visual style was also very cute, like a little diorama. It would have been nice to see more buildings and rules introduced, as the game gets a bit repetitive after a while. Despite this issue, I had a fun time with the game. Nice work! |
| Aug 14 19:54:40 | 17h 10m | Overflow | ♥ 0 | This game is really good. The pixel art style is very colorful and appealing. I enjoy all the cute designs for the various characters, and they're all so well animated. I like how all the different characters control, and combining them all together at the end is a neat idea. That said, the final character did feel a bit difficult to control, since all of the special moves are mapped to the same button. I felt like I always wound up fluttering when I wanted to dash. That aside, this is a very beautiful and well made game. Nice work! |
| Aug 14 20:21:45 | 27m 05s | Encumbered - Deckbuilding Inventory Action | ♥ 1 | This game's pretty neat. Having to adapt to the different cards I was drawing forced me to think on the fly, which was fun, and I like the variety of cards on display. Alternating between combat and shopping gave the game a nice pacing. I like the pixel art style and the little enemies look cute, although the lack of sound was a bit disappointing. That aside, this is a very solid game that I had a lot of fun playing. Nice work! |
| Aug 14 22:45:21 | 2h 23m | Spaco | ♥ 0 | For your first Ludum Dare entry, this is pretty decent. The art is nice and I like how your ship thrusts forward a little bit whenever it moves forward. The game is pretty basic, but it's well made for what it is. It could use some background music and sound effects, but I'd say that I had a good time playing this game. Good job! |
| Aug 15 00:07:04 | 1h 21m | Slime Mine | ♥ 1 | This is a pretty cool game. I like the idea of a Terraria style game where you get bigger over time, and that feature is pretty well implemented. I really like the jump animations for the various sizes of the slime, although the jump itself has this weird delay that makes it awkward to perform. My main gripe with the game would be its repetitive nature. This game really needed some form of progression to keep me going. Still, this is a pretty solid game and I had fun with it. Good job! |
| Aug 15 00:21:38 | 14m 34s | Samu's Way | ♥ 2 | For your first Ludum Dare, this game is pretty good. I like how the tiles I step on go away, so I have to think before I move. The music is very fitting and contributes towards the samurai theme. I do feel that the combat could use some work. It doesn't have much weight to it and it just sorta feels like I'm rubbing up against the enemies until they fall over. Some added depth and polish for the combat would go a long way towards improving the game's overall feel. Despite some issues, this is certainly a solid entry for your first attempt. Nice work! |
| Aug 15 00:58:21 | 36m 43s | Closing In: Barney's Daring Escape | ♥ 1 | This game is super neat. I love the dedication to making an actual NES game! I really like how this game captures this weird, almost creepy pasta esque vibe, with its authentic NES look and steadily deforming music. The game itself is fairly simple and perhaps longer than it really needs to be, but it is fun for what it is. Overall, this is a really interesting game I'm glad I got a chance to play. Great work! |
| Aug 15 01:38:48 | 40m 27s | Reasonable Claustrophobia | ♥ 1 | This game is really clever. I like how the walls closing in make you slow down and take a more cautious approach, since spamming bullets will get you killed. It almost feels like a puzzle game in that sense. I also like how the enemy bullets can also activate the wall, making it necessary to take enemies out quickly. But what's really smart is how you can use the wall as a weapon to kill enemies, adding an extra layer of depth to the experience. I also appreciated the final boss fight at the end, making the game feel complete. On top of that, the art is fantastic and the music is super groovy. My only real complaint is at the lack of level variety. It would have been nice to see more different kinds of enemies and obstacles as you progress, although I suppose there's only so much you can do with the time limit. Overall, this is a really fantastic game that was a blast to play. Amazing work! |
| Aug 15 02:33:44 | 54m 56s | Back to Base | ♥ 0 | This game has a pretty neat concept and I like the trippy, space distorting visuals. The pixel art on for the title screen also looks really good. That said, my main problem with this game is that it feels very barren. It definitely needs enemies or some other mechanic to spice it up, as the game gets pretty repetitive after a while. Overall, this is a really interesting game, even if it's a bit underdeveloped. Nice work! |
| Aug 15 14:19:22 | 11h 45m | Dyson's Fear | ♥ 2 | It's really cool that you made a game for the original gameboy. I admire that dedication! It looks and feels really authentic. It is a bit disappointing that there's no music or sound effects; I would have loved to hear some gameboy bleeps and bloops. The game itself is a pretty basic runner, but it's competent for what it is. One thing I noticed is that the box obstacles slow you down, but going slower actually makes the game easier, so there doesn't seem to be much of a point to avoiding them since it takes hitting a very large number of boxes in a row to kill you. Overall, this is a solid game and it's impressive that you made it for the original gameboy. Nice work! |
| Aug 15 14:55:06 | 35m 44s | Path of Excess: Hoarder vs Horde | ♥ 0 | This game is pretty fun. Having to manage a lot of things at once gives the game a very frantic, fast pace feeling. As always, it's enjoyable to slowly grind better and better loot, although it would have been neat to see later items take up more space and have more complex shapes. My main complaint with the game wold be the cluttered UI with, like, a million stats on screen. There's a lot of information there, yet I never really payed attention to any of my stat totals, so you could have definitely cut down on some of the UI elements. The tutorial was also a bit unnecessarily long winded and could have been shortened. That aside, this is a really solid game that I enjoyed playing quite a lot. Nice work! |
| Aug 15 15:37:26 | 42m 20s | Cronus' Tomb 2 | ♥ 1 | This game is pretty fun. I love the whole rogue-like setup, going back and forth between the dungeons and the town to upgrade your character and find clues. It reminds me a bit of The Consuming Shadow by Yahtzee Croshaw, if you've ever played that game. The cute pixel art was great and the music added to the tone of the game. The platforming felt nice and responsive, but the combat could be a bit frustrating at times. I like a game with a good challenge, but most of the difficulty in this game stems from the player character's short change combined with their fast movement speed, leading me to accidentally run straight into enemies. Also, either I'm missing something or these dungeons are really long, cause I never found a single clue no matter how far I went. Despite these flaws, this is a really great game that I had a fun time playing. Nice work! |
| Aug 15 16:22:26 | 45m 00s | Amobo | ♥ 1 | Congrats on your first game! This game is pretty simple and repetitive, but it's a good start for your first attempt. I will say that it was a bit disappointing that I didn't get to see any of the titular Amobo(tm). Getting to see different little figures with every opened box would have kept me interested for longer. Still, this is pretty good for your first game. Good job! |
| Aug 15 16:46:08 | 23m 42s | Bag Man | ♥ 0 | This is a pretty cute game. I like the Pitfall inspired aesthetic, and the pixel art character design looks good. The game is sorely lacking background art and music, which was a bit disappointing. The premise of the game is neat, as it puts time pressure on the player, creating a tension between going fast and avoiding obstacles. My biggest complaint is that the game got repetitive after a while as the same obstacles kept repeating without variation. Perhaps making the game shorter with only 8 bags would have been more appropriate given the low amount of content. There were also some long sections without a way to get back up to the top, making it difficult to get certain bags in time. Overall, this is a simple, yet solid game. Good job! |
| Aug 15 17:05:54 | 19m 46s | Running out of Toaster | ♥ 1 | This game is pretty fun. I like the action packed gameplay. There was a healthy amount of enemy variety and a good number of checkpoints. One thing I noticed while playing is that, because the camera only starts moving once you move a certain distance towards one side of the screen or the other, there was always more space behind the player than in front of them, making it hard to see what's coming up. I liked the music, but the environmental art was a bit chaotic and could have been more cohesive. Overall, this is a solid entry. Nice work! |
| Aug 15 22:00:05 | 4h 54m | Crushed | ♥ 1 | This is a pretty unique and interesting game. I love how the quick growing slime keeps you moving and thinking on your feet. I will say that the controls felt a bit off. The jump felt too quick because of how fast you fall, and you only just barely jump high enough to reach certain platforms. There where a lot of times where I was trying to jump onto a slime block but wound up getting crushed from the side for some reason instead. That said, I do like the pixel art style and the music is nice too. Overall, this is a solid game that I had some fun with. Nice work! |
| Aug 15 23:28:16 | 1h 28m | Running Out in Space! | ♥ 1 | This is a pretty neat game. I like the art style and the ambient music created a really relaxing tone. I liked how the hazards closing in both served as an obstacle to be avoided and a potentially useful tool, as they moved certain platforms around. My main criticism of this game is that the level designs were fairly simple and didn't really challenge me very much. I feel like the game needed to introduce an extra mechanic or two in the later levels to keep things fresh. But, for what it is, I enjoyed playing this game. Nice work! |
| Aug 16 01:57:05 | 2h 28m | Pats Pack | ♥ 1 | This game's pretty neat. It has this very frantic feeling as I'm scrambling around looking for weapons. I like the variety of weapons on display and how they all act in their on unique way. I will say that I never really found my self "running out of space," since I pretty much used each weapon as I picked it up. I also felt that the controls lacked a sense of momentum and weight, and the one hit deaths were a bit punishing. That aside, this is a very solid game that I had fun playing. Nice work! |
| Aug 16 02:08:17 | 11m 12s | There is Never Enough Space!!! | ♥ 1 | This is a really charming game. I love the Wario Ware like aesthetic, and the music gives the game a totally chill vibe. I like how each mini game provides its own take on the theme "running out of space" in their own clever ways. I also really like how the menu is controlled in the same manner you move things around in the actual game. That's a really nice touch that adds a certain level of consistency to the experience, even acting as a sort of tutorial. I will say that the time limit on the second game was perhaps a bit too short, but I got past it none the less. Overall, I had a lot of fun with this game. Amazing work! |
| Aug 16 13:56:09 | 11h 47m | The Flopp | ♥ 1 | This is a pretty fun game. I like the parts where there's an error and parts of the level look all glitched out. It would have been cool if that had affected gameplay and wasn't just an aesthetic thing, but it's a nice effect none the less. I'm not a big fan of this game's jump; it's a bit too fast due to the high gravity. I like how you get new moves along the way, keeping the game new and exciting. That said, I feel like you missed an opportunity to have obstacles I couldn't get through before that I can go back to once I've acquired a certain disk, instead of the obstacles only appearing once I've gotten the necessary power up. I feel that this game missed a few opportunities to really shine, but, overall, this is a solid game that I had a lot of fun playing. Nice work! |
| Aug 16 14:33:01 | 36m 52s | LETTERBOX | ♥ 1 | This game is really great. I like how the screen closing in is tied to jumping, forcing you to be more thoughtful with your movements. I love how the letter boxing serves both as an obstacle and a useful tool for wall jumping, adding an extra layer of depth. I also love the guns that get added in towards the end, as they add another layer of interaction with the letter boxing. The trial and error could get a bit frustrating in areas where it was difficult to react to what was ahead, but it never got too frustrating to handle. Overall, this is an excellent, thoughtfully designed game. Amazing work! |
| Aug 16 19:30:59 | 4h 57m | Welcome to BURELAND | ♥ 1 | This is a pretty cool game. I like the level of strategy you have to use when navigating the level to trap the enemies while leaving yourself a path to the door. I also like the amount of enemy variety, although more distinct visual designs could have helped the player differentiate between them. I like the little wiggle the character does when he jumps, although the visuals became a bit hard to see when the when the camera zoomed out. Also, the lack of music and sound was a bit disappointing. Overall, this is a solid game that I enjoyed. Nice work! |
| Aug 16 21:36:12 | 2h 05m | Blueberry Adventure | ♥ 0 | This is a pretty cool game. It's always impressive to see a fully 3D game made for Ludum Dare. I like how getting hit isn't an instant death, but rather it does slow you down and forces you to take detours. One complaint I have is that the little holes you're supposed to fall through are so small that I didn't even realize they were holes at first since you had to be right in the middle to fall through them. Also, it was a bit disappointing to not have any music. Overall, this is a solid entry. Nice work! |
| Aug 16 22:34:24 | 58m 12s | Jumpless | ♥ 1 | This game's pretty neat. It has a very clever interpretation of the theme. Restricting the number of jumps a player has forces them to take a more thoughtful approach. That said, the control scheme feels a bit awkward when dashing. It would make more sense to control movement with the arrow keys and control dashing and jumping with the other hand. The visuals are pretty good looking, but it was disappointing to not hear any music or sound effects. Despite some flaws, this is an overall solid game. Nice work. |
| Aug 16 22:56:24 | 22m 00s | Void Incoming | ♥ 1 | This game's pretty good, especially for your first Ludum Dare. I like how you sort of have to ration out the pickups so that you'll have enough left over to make it to the end. I enjoyed the variety of mechanics on display, but I feel that they were all introduced too quickly at the very begging, meaning the rest of the game lacked new mechanics to introduce. Instead of introducing all of the mechanics at the very beginning, it would be better to spread out their introduction so that the player is continually introduced to new mechanics throughout the game. I think this would help with the game's pacing. I did enjoy the final boss as it was a nice change of pace from the rest of the game while still incorporating the main mechanics. The visuals were simple yet effective, although the pixel art looked a bit blurry on my screen. There's probably an anti-aliasing option in your engine that you should turn off to fix that. The sound effects were good, but it was a bit disappointing not to hear any music. Despite some flaws, this is a solid game, especially for your first Ludum Dare. Nice work! |
