Apr 23 07:26:45 A Puzzling Combination ♥ 1 I really like the art-style and overall presentation. Everything was very well stylized with thick outline and lots of color. I particularly like how the main puzzle piece wasn't totally static and actually moved its face around a bit. The cartoonish sound effects were also very fitting. Also, the menu was nicely implemented with pop-ups and everything. The narrative was cute, too. My main point of criticism of the game would be its overly repetitive nature. It would have been cool if new elements were introduced over time instead of the game just going faster and faster. But, for what it is, the presentation was enjoyable on its own merits. Nice work!
Apr 23 08:11:32 44m 47s Space Chess ♥ 1 Really fantastic concept overall, and impeccably well implemented. I like how the rhythm aspect made timing your placements really important, and the friendly fire made it crucial to think out your positioning carefully. Introducing more pieces and more enemies over time kept the game constantly fresh, and the audio and visuals gave the game a very energetic vibe. This is a truly fantastic, well rounded entry, a case of a simple and creative premise well executed. Great job!
Apr 23 08:26:40 15m 08s Rapid Bullet-Hell Blitz Chess ♥ 2 I love the vibrant, energetic vibe this game gives off. The constant barrage of enemies combined with the upbeat music kept me pumped and ready for more. Shaping the weapons and enemies like chess pieces was an excellent way of communicating their function. Since I already know how a knight moves in chess, I can immediately tell how the knight moves in this game and don't have to memorize its pattern. My one criticism would be that the power-up is also shaped like a chess piece, so I initially thought it was an enemy to be avoided. Later, when green, invincible enemies were introduced, I assumed they were power-ups as well and got killed without warning. Having some clearer way of distinguishing between friend and foe could have saved me some trial and error, but, overall, that didn't detract much from my enjoyment. Excellent work!
Apr 23 08:51:52 25m 12s Deck Cutters: Hearth of the Cards ♥ 1 This is a pretty interesting concept. I like the idea of adding a real time element to a card game, having to manage positioning while playing my cards. I also really like the animation of throwing my card to the ground and a monster popping out of it. I think that the controls could be greatly improved by binding card selection to the scroll wheal instead of Q and E so I wouldn't have to take my hand off of WASD. My other criticism would be that the arena was a bit barren, with little in the way of interesting obstacles or terrain. I just sorta went back and forth throwing down cards until I died. Still, I really enjoyed the premise and there's definitely something here to expand upon. Nice work!
Apr 23 09:05:41 13m 49s Six Shooter: Cowboy vs Aliens ♥ 1 This is a pretty cool game. I like how the bullets keep ricocheting until you pick them back up. It prevents the player from just mashing attack and forces them to focus on positioning. I also think there's a nice balance of enemy types, with a close range charging enemy and a long range projectile enemy. The acoustic guitar background music was also a nice touch. The game could use some polish overall, but it's still a solid entry. Nice work!
Apr 23 09:21:38 15m 57s Manly Thomas ♥ 1 I like the pixel art and the vibrant color pallet. The gameplay was unique. I found it interesting that colliding with walls got rid of the dots, limiting the area you could move in. This added a layer of depth to the movement system, although it took me a while to figure out how to play. My main criticism would be that there is quite a lot going on all at once, making it hard to keep track of everything on screen. Still, this is a really interesting entry. Nice work!
Apr 24 00:57:01 15h 35m Apocalypse Tycoon ♥ 1 This is a pretty cool concept. I like the idea of leading around a small group of people using positioning in order to get them to do what I want. Only needing to using the arrow-keys helped keep the game nice and simple to interface with. I'd say the cell shaded, isometric visuals are definitely the highlight here. The a cappella sound design was also very charming. My one complaint would be that the spawn rate for allies was too low early on and it took me a while to find even one more guy. But, once things got going, I had a lot of fun. Nice work!
Apr 24 01:19:09 22m 08s A Knight's Bounty ♥ 1 I like the idea of adding rpg elements to a bullet hell, though it's certainly unfortunate that you weren't able to fully implement your plan. Still, I have to say that the visuals are pretty nice. Good effort!
Apr 24 02:56:27 1h 37m Pinball Gardener ♥ 1 Combining pinball with farming is a neat idea. I really love the cute, hand-drawn aesthetic, and the chipper, upbeat music is very endearing. It all came together for a very relaxing experience. My one complaint is that I did run into a few physics problems. Most notably, the ball would occasionally get stuck in the launcher before getting to play, causing me to lose a ball and have to buy another. Those issues aside, I had a really good time playing this game. Nice work!
Apr 24 03:32:23 35m 56s Transmute ♥ 1 This was a pretty cool game. I like how many different ways you use the shooting mechanic; the disappearing blocks were a good way of combining platforming and shooting. The visuals were also good. One suggestion I'd make is to change the control scheme a bit. Having jump be one of the face buttons means that I have to take my thumb off of the right stick in order to jump. Perhaps binding jump to one of the bumpers or triggers would have worked better for this game. In any event, I had a pretty fun time playing this entry. Nice work!
Apr 24 04:02:33 30m 10s Rhythm Escape ♥ 0 I really like the concept for this game. I enjoyed how having to keep up with the notes made me slow down and take my time instead of just gunning it as fast as possible. It added a certain level of tension to the movement. I also like how the notes had a very stealthy, quiet vibe to them. Overall, this is a very solid entry. Nice work!
Apr 24 04:23:06 20m 33s Motorhell ♥ 1 I really love this game! First of all, the visuals are top notch. I really dig the low res 3D thing you have going on. That along with the color pallet really contribute to the heavy metal atmosphere, with the music really tying it all together. As for the gameplay, I really enjoy how the movement changes how you have to approach this game as compared to other first person shooters. I also like how you aim independently of movement, letting you pop shots off at dudes behind you. I also enjoyed the enemy variety and how the different unit types are denoted by their bright, glowing colors. They force you to prioritize certain targets and change your strategy around them. I particularly enjoy the blue dude who just tries to ram into you. A melee enemy wouldn't normally work well in an FPS, but, in a biker FPS, he's right at home. All in all, this is an excellent entry. Fantastic work! There's definitely a lot here you can expand on in a future version.
Apr 24 07:42:33 3h 19m Infiltration Addict ♥ 5 I found the premise of this game very funny. Seeing the game turn into a visual novel as soon as I got spotted really caught me off guard and made me chuckle a bit. The game was pretty bare bones overall, but the gameplay was serviceable enough to get the joke across. All in all, a solid entry. Nice work!
Apr 24 07:51:44 9m 11s One More Arm ♥ 1 This is a really fun game! The physics of flying all over the place is well implemented and the shooting feels great. The presentation is also top notch; you really nailed the look of a slot machine. I particularly like the thick, black outlines everything has. It does get repetitive after a while, but I had a blast while it lasted. Great work!
Apr 24 08:01:02 9m 18s Flee, little guinea pig! ♥ 1 This is a pretty unique concept that is well executed. Theming your golf game as a hamster in a ball is a very cute and clever idea. The physics felt good and the level design created lot of varied scenarios. The visuals were also top notch and did a good job of communicating the gameplay. I had a great time playing through this entry. Nice work!
Apr 24 08:49:47 48m 45s Revenge of the LuchaDorks ♥ 1 The highlight here is clearly the visuals. I absolutely adore the masterfully hand drawn background art, and all of the characters look great too. It would have been nice if there was some background music, but the visuals more than make up for it. Still, I'm not sure why the menu music doesn't play during the actual game. That aside, the gameplay was your basic dower defense fare, but it was all very well implemented and worked as it should. Overall, this is a solid entry with standout artwork. Great job!
Apr 24 08:59:42 9m 55s Body Counter ♥ 1 This is a pretty neat concept. I like how deciding what numbers to go after and which gun to use added a layer of strategic decision making to the game that you don't see in a lot of shooters. I also like how the randomized target number gave the game a certain degree of replayability. The visuals were a bit basic, but serviceable. Overall, this is a solid entry. Nice work!
Apr 24 09:15:12 15m 30s Dedicated User Defined Entity (D.U.D.E.) ♥ 1 This is a pretty neat concept for a game. I like the idea of not always having the same set of skills in a platformer and having to make due with what you get. I also think that the character art is really good and I particularly like the little puff of smoke that happens when you start moving. That said, I think that the card game element could have been better implemented since you can always pick the best stuff if you don't really care about score. That, said, you really have something cool going on here and it's a solid entry overall. Nice work!
Apr 24 09:32:27 17m 15s Ce n'est pas un jeu de pointer-et-cliquer ♥ 1 This is a very provocative, surreal game. I really enjoyed my time with it. I constantly felt like I wasn't sure what was going to happen next. I'm not sure if there's necessarily a meaning to it, but I enjoyed the experience none the less. I am familiar with the painting the title references, so maybe I'll figure out what it all means eventually. In any event, excellent work!
Apr 28 04:01:02 90h 28m Blocks'N'Blaster ♥ 0 This is a pretty neat premise. Combining Tetris with a platformer is certainly unique. I also like how shooting certain points on the blocks activate special effects, giving a greater purpose to shooting than just moving the blocks. I do wish that the hitbox for the laser was a bit bigger, as it can be hard to hit blocks in mid air. Also, I feel that the platforming itself is relatively underutilized and mostly just serves to make the process of playing Tetris a bit more difficult. Perhaps adding more elements in the platforming area aside from coins would help make the game more interesting. That being said, I enjoyed my time with this game. Nice work!
Apr 28 07:39:56 3h 38m Angry Mush ♥ 2 This game is pretty fun. I like how you use the gardening mini game as a replacement for the standard reload mechanic. There's also a great amount of weapon variety on top of that. It would be nice to be able to use the scroll wheal to swap weapons since you have to take your fingers off of WASD to access the arrow keys. I also really like the art style and audio, it was very charming. Overall, excellent entry. Good job!
Apr 28 22:12:16 14h 32m Toppen Ultimate Anime Defense ♥ 1 I really like how you went all the way with this premise. The amount of different anime references is staggering. I also like the enthusiastic voice-over and big, bold text. The visuals were also very charming. The gameplay could get a bit repetitive, even for a tower defense game, and I felt that the weapon and enemy variety was a somewhat lacking. I also wish that there was some in-game explanation for what all the weapons did so I could use them more effectively. That said, I had a fun time with this game. Nice work!
Apr 28 22:30:16 18m 00s Eyes on the Prize ♥ 2 This game is pretty cool. I didn't get a chance to try the co-op, but the game felt nice to play overall. Adding crafting elements to a twin stick shooter is a neat idea, though the crafting menu was a bit fiddly. The game is very fast paced, yet the crafting menu is small, in the corner, and dense with information, making it difficult to stop and read in the middle of a fight. Simplifying your UI and crafting system to make it readable from a glance would go a long way to make the game flow better. That said, the visuals and audio were very nice, contributing to a good overall mood. All in all, this is a very solid entry, Nice work!
Apr 28 23:24:27 54m 11s Shuffle Climber ♥ 1 This is a pretty neat concept for a game. I've seen a lot of games this jam attempt to combine action games with card games, but I feel that this is the most successful on I've played overall. Needing to use cards to get more cards leads to tough decision making, which is made even more tense by the game's punishing difficulty. I had a really fun time with this game. Nice work!
Apr 28 23:45:28 21m 01s Twin Stick Town ♥ 1 This game does a pretty successful job of combining twin stick shooting and city management. I like how the calm city building aspect acts as a bit of downtime between high intensity shootouts. I also like how the two halves of the game connect to each other, your facilities giving you powerups during the shooting sections and needing the defend the houses you built during the building section. My one complaint is the lack of additional buildings and enemy types as the game progressed. Having all of the buildings and enemy types from the very start made the game get a bit repetitive, although things did change a bit as the city got larger and more difficult to defend. That aside, I really enjoyed my time with this game. Excellent work!
Apr 28 23:55:36 10m 08s Shootanoid ♥ 1 This is a pretty neat idea. I like how the balls are both necessary for success but also potentially harmful; that's really clever design right there. The levels provided a good variety of situations to test your skills which require new strategies for optimal play. The audio is a bit lacking with one sound effect and no music, although the block hit sound combined with the screen-shake is very effective. I particularly like the little confetti effect that happens when your character dies. Overall, this is a very solid entry. Nice work!
Apr 29 00:04:51 9m 15s Gods' War ♥ 0 You forgot to add a download link to your game's page.
Apr 29 00:06:06 1m 15s Let us Dare... ♥ 0 You forgot to add a download link to the game's page.
Apr 29 00:17:53 11m 47s Futbolvania ♥ 0 This game is pretty interesting. I like the idea of combining soccer with a platformer. It took me a while to figure out how to play, but I figured it out eventually. That said, I think there's something wrong with the kicking mechanic, as the ball just stays in place when I try to kick. I got to the final boss, but wasn't able to defeat him because I couldn't kick the ball. I did like the Castlevania visuals and music, however. Overall, this is a solid attempt. Nice work!
Apr 29 00:29:28 11m 35s Super Platformer RPG ♥ 1 The idea of combining a platformer with a turn based rpg is great, but I feel that this game fumbles the execution. The platforming and combat are both overly simplistic and one doesn't really contribute towards the other, the game just sort of alternates between being a platformer and being an rpg without much crossover outside of the health pickups you can find during the platforming sections. That being said, alternating between action focused platforming and strategic combat does give the game good pacing. Also, I like the little characters' design and animations, plus the black and white contrast is striking. This entry could be much better, but it is solid overall. Nice work!
Apr 29 00:54:11 24m 43s Type Gear ♥ 1 This is a pretty funny concept. I like how you made the turn command "turn left/right" instead of just "left/right" so you have to frantically type out this long command every time you want to turn. I also like how you can speed up or slow down, allowing the player to control the difficulty. Overall, this is a very frustrating game, but intentionally so, and I had a good time with it. Nice work!
Apr 29 01:03:57 9m 46s Orcs Attack ♥ 1 This game is pretty neat. I like the idea of combining tower defense and city building. Having to gather resources makes the whole thing a lot more frantic. My largest criticism would be that the game goes a bit too fast and never seems to let up. Having waves of enemies as opposed to a constant barrage of them would give the game a much better pacing. Despite that issue, this game is solid overall. Nice work!
Apr 29 01:26:13 22m 16s PathMatcher ♥ 0 This is a really clever idea and an interesting spin on the match 3 genre. I like just how far ahead I had to think in order to map out a path, as just matching any blocks I could often times cut off potential paths. It's a simple concept, but it works really well. Nice work!
Apr 29 02:30:22 1h 04m The Bonding of Isaac ♥ 1 This is a really nice, wholesome game <3. I like how there is a certain puzzle element to it, trying to figure out what you had to say to win them over, while also maintaining action, bullet hell gameplay at the same time. The lack of audio is disappointing, but I don't have many problems aside from that. Overall, this is a pretty fun and creative little game. Nice work!
Apr 29 02:56:42 26m 20s Snakes and Ladders: A Texted Based Adventure Game ♥ 1 This is quite a funny premise. I love the hilarious writing. Many other games like this would probably repeat lines quite a lot, but every square here seems to have a different line, which is impressive. It did get repetitive after a while with how many snakes I landed on, but I made it eventually. Also, I'm not sure if the examine function works; it never seemed to do anything. That aside, I had a really fun time with this game. Nice work!
Apr 29 06:47:50 3h 51m The Dark Of Winter ♥ 0 Combining tower defense with wilderness survival is a neat idea. I like how I have to go out scavenging for resources. One criticism I have is with the controls; having your movement direction be based on the mouse position is super unintuitive in a top-down perspective. That being said, I think that the overall atmosphere of the game is really great, especially with the wind noise and the blurring of the screen at the boarder. Overall, this game is a bit rough around the edges, but shows some potential. Good job!
Apr 29 07:25:08 37m 18s Gradioid ♥ 1 I really love this game! Combining metroidvania with a shoot-em-up is pretty genius, and it is so well executed here. You've really managed to capture the winding cavers of Metroid with the gameplay of Gradius, as the name suggests. Also, I'm a total sucker for that authentic NES look, and the music is fitting, adding to the overall atmosphere. My one major complaint is, as many others have pointed out, that the first segment before the metroidvania aspect begins is far too difficult, taking me several attempts to complete. It's not necessarily that any given obstacle is to difficult, but that the whole thing goes on for so long without a checkpoint that a new player is bound to die at some point before they reach the end. For something that should really just be a basic tutorial to get the player used to the gameplay, that first segment serves as a major gatekeeper to the main part of the game. As many of the above comments have shown, a lot of players never got far enough to even realize that this is a metroidvania, which is a shame, since that is what makes this game special. But once, you get past that roadblock, the rest of the game is fantastic. Excellent work!
Apr 29 07:49:00 23m 52s Skeletons and Fireballs ♥ 0 Combining a puzzle game with a rhythm game is a neat idea. I'll admit that I couldn't figure out how to play until I read one of the comments explaining it, but it was a lot more intuitive after that. The red visuals are a bit of an eyesore (kinda reminds me of the virtual boy), and the music is a tad repetitive, but the game overall is pretty solid. It's rough around the edges, but I certainly enjoyed my time with it. Nice work!
Apr 29 09:11:08 1h 22m Grid Gunner ♥ 3 This is a really amazing concept amazingly well executed. I love how the turn based nature of the game allows you to take your time and carefully make decisions; it makes for a very different type of bullet hell game. I also like just how many new mechanics got introduced as I progressed through the game. The game never seemed to run out of ideas. Add onto that solid visuals and audio and you got yourself an excellent entry. Great job!
Apr 29 09:19:21 8m 13s BIRKANOID ♥ 1 This is a pretty neat premise. I like how the fast paced action of Arkanoid is balanced out by the slow paced decision making of a card game. Choosing the order in which to use the cards in my hand made for some difficult choices, keeping the gameplay involving throughout. The visuals are also very nice, as is the sound design, although the lack of music is a bit underwhelming. Still, this is a very good entry. Nice work!
Apr 29 20:44:41 11h 25m YOU LEFT ME. ♥ 1 This game has some amazing visuals, especially for a compo entry. I really like the surreal, abstract aesthetic this game has going on. It's astounding that you were able to make something look so gorgeous in just 48 hours. The audio was also fitting and added to the overall mood, although it was a bit overwhelming at times. I'm not sure if I fully understood what was supposed to be going on, but maybe that's the type of thing I'd need to do multiple playthroughs to find out. In any event, nice work!
Apr 29 21:02:43 18m 02s Felocity ♥ 1 This is a pretty cool game. I like how you have to pick up your gun from the projectiles shot out my enemies, although it took me a while to figure out that was the case. The silly, upbeat audio is also very fitting and adds to the game's charm, especially the track that plays when you lose. I also like how your kitty hovers up and down, even when idle, making the game feel more alive. Overall, this game is really well build and solid. Nice work!
Apr 29 21:14:36 11m 53s Cardramino ♥ 0 This is an interesting premise. I like how the player has to work within the limitations of the cards they are given. That said, I feel that to rotation cards are a bit too rare, making it difficult to play the game effectively. The audio also got very repetitive quickly. Overall, this game could use some polishing, but it shows some potential. Nice work!
Apr 29 21:23:10 8m 34s KEYBOARD WARRIOR ♥ 0 This game's core mechanic is pretty fun. I like how I have to reach my hand all around in order to use my weapon, almost like I'm playing twister. This game really takes advantage of the mechanics of the user interface. That said, I really wish the game was more challenging. I mostly just wandered around killing zombies with no problem. Having the game ramp up in difficulty with more enemies and new enemy types would be nice. Also having a map that isn't completely blank would add some needed variety to the game. As it stands, this game feels a lot like a tech demo as opposed to a full game, but the core mechanic definitely shows a lot of promise. Excellent work!
Apr 29 21:41:58 18m 48s Escape ♥ 1 This is a pretty clever game. I felt that the puzzles were tricky but do-able enough for me to reasonable be able to figure them all out. I like how the puzzles were very faithful to escape the room games, being more about thinking it through rather than traditional video game block puzzles or color matching puzzles. I also like how the clues to the last puzzle were sprinkled throughout the game, letting the player slowly piece together the puzzle as they go along. The gameboy inspired aesthetic was also nice, and the audio was fitting. Overall, this is a pretty nice game. Great job!
Apr 30 08:26:42 10h 44m Flappy Blocks ♥ 1 I love it! The combination of the meticulous strategy of Tertis with the frustrating imprecision of Flappy Bird is genius. I've played a lot of Tetris close this Ludum Dare, but this has to be the best one. Having to line up your pieces really adds to the game; you wind up making these back boards to make it easier to line up your shots. I love the feeling of trying to keep things together as everything slowly goes terribly wrong. Also, the dialog and story are incredibly clever and witty. Overall amazing package. Excellent work!
