| Dec 17 15:10:00 | Evil Wall | Although simple, I loved this game. I think this is a great first entry on LD. I got 25 points on my first play through.

I really like the idea you came up with. It is original and fun. Movement was really smooth, and the "wall-enemy" transition was nice. The game keeps score, which always improve the fun, and I liked that the good guy counter changed color.

Some suggestions:
* Sounds would make a world of difference in this game. Try to use the "bfxr" program, which is available online, to make sounds!

* You should leave a "play area" somewhere, so that the counter and the score do not block the view of your game.

* You should write in your journal/blog! Half the fun of ludum dare is sharing the development process with other people.

Thanks for the game, and I hope to see you again next LD! | |
| Dec 17 15:31:00 | 21m 00s | Invasion! | Interesting idea. I liked that you added many "quality of life" options in your game, like the separate intro, high score and ending screens, and the mute button. You also posted a lot in the blog, which is always nice.

Playing the game felt a bit like I was passing a big eraser on the enemies :-) The bullets felt a bit too fast, and there was not much point in trying to dodge them -- did you insert any sort of loop control in your game, to make sure it ran at the same speed in most machines? The game looked a bit accelerated in mine.

In one of your blog screenshots, the alien ship was among stars, above the sky. I think you should have kept that :-)

Thanks for the game, and I hope to see you next LD, you have a lot of potential! |
| Dec 17 15:44:00 | 13m 00s | Burglar | Interesting game. I liked the graphics a lot, it gave a consistent feel for the game. Maybe increasing a bit of contrast like the others said would make it better, but it does have a Gameboy-esque feel.

As for the game itself, it felt a bit short. You go into the house with the dog, then there is the item shop, and that is it? The jump was a bit too high, and I couldn't figure out that you needed to press X THEN Z to attack, as one commenter wrote it.

Also, crazy story with the party and the mugging in your blog! I'm happy that you are well, and managed to take something from the experience :-)

Cheers! |
| Dec 17 15:53:00 | 9m 00s | Black Knight Blockade | That is a cute little game! I really liked your spritework, and the game was fun to play. Sounds were nice too.

Some comments:
- I really expected the bridge to mean something. I understand that the game won't quite work if the peasants can only walk through the bridge, but what if walking across the river made the peasants/knigh move slower?

- Mashing the space bar to attack was not so good. I usually don't like it when games make me mash a key. Maybe just holding it should suffice to keep attaking?

- A minor note regarding packaging: Put all your files in a directory in the zip file! With so many games to play, it is nice if I can open the zip and drag the game directly to my LD folder, without worrying about creating a special folder to it :-)

Thanks for the game! |
| Dec 17 16:04:00 | 11m 00s | Wearhouse | A bit on the difficult side. I liked that you went for a somewhat different interpretation of the theme. The commands are a bit too sensitive, though. The game felt more like getting the execution right, than really figuring out the puzzles. |
| Dec 17 16:17:00 | 13m 00s | Meteors: Look at them go | This is a very different game, and I like the idea a lot. Watching the meteors approach earth while the small green turret tried desperately to defend it was quite fun.

But to be honest, I felt more like an spectator to the game than a player. I didn't manage to make a single meteor that I was controlling hit earth -- all the meteors that hit earth were by the computer. It was pretty to watch, but I didn't felt I was helping much.

Also, I know that in the space no one can hear you scream, but it would be nice to hear a satisfying "Crunch" or explosion every time a meteor hit the earth. Maybe some cries of despair? :-D

Nice little detail with the news ticker at the bottom!

Congrats on your first LD and your quite original idea! |
| Dec 17 16:32:00 | 15m 00s | The other side | Ha, I was so happy about my reverse pacman... not only you did it, you also did two other reversed games, and with a gorgeous style to boot! :-) Awesome!

I loved your art style, and the controls were very slick. Everything fits nicely together. Also, what a gorgeous font!

That said, I did not have a lot of fun. I don't think the "you have to let the player win" idea really worked for me :-/ But great work on the visuals and polish! |
| Dec 19 04:18:00 | 35h 46m | Cure 48 | Hey Sonny, Awesome game like always. The art style is really put together nicely, and I loved the songs.

Quick comments on the game: when you switch screens, keyboard input stops - so if I was pressing right to move, I'd have to release the button and press it again to keep moving - that is kinda bad in the final sequence, when you want to hurry the player. Like you mentioned before, the "sword breaking" animation is kinda hard to notice. I actually realized what was happening on my second playthrough, but the first time around I thought it was a bug.

Also, on my last playthrough, I decided to go through the game without killing any enemies, and without catching any pellets - the game ended as soon as I reached the spaceship screen (I didn't need to go under the ship) - and I got no rank! Is it supposed to be that way? I managed to get two ranks (villain and hero) and the top three medals.

Anyway, now for some more rambling:
When I was 3/4 of the way into the dare, I finally realized that something like this could fit the theme as well: you play a normal game, thinking you are the hero, but in the end you see the game from the other side and realize you were the villain. I'm happy that you took this route, it was an awesome game. To be honest, I kinda realized what was going on right away, and managed to finish my first and second playthrough without killing any slimes. I was surprised on my "villain" playthrough to realize that the slimes also held cures inside them. That makes the killing of slimes a little bit justifiable, doesn't it?

Do you have any hints for the bottom medal and the third rank?

Anyway, thanks for the great game! |
| Dec 19 04:41:00 | 23m 00s | Lucky Luddite | The art is really funny. It was cool to see a dozen cavemen trying to light the fire at the same time. But the gameplay was a bit repetitive, and it was hard to see where you should actually throw a stone to get a caveman's attention.

The game has some bugs: if the lightning rises the "fire-o-meter" gauge above its max value, the gauge will reset to zero - in effect, you can never lose the game if you keep "machine gunning" gold into the cavemen, so that the lightning always put out fires when they get too close to max.

One very simple thing that would improve this game immensely (besides fixing that bug) is adding a timer, so that the player has some incentive for playing again (beating his previous time).

Thanks for the game! |
| Dec 19 04:53:00 | 12m 00s | Ludum Dare: The Musical | It was a very cute game, very original, I liked the idea a lot :-)

It was a bit on the easy side. Maybe instead of being an "all-or-nothing" you could have lines that gave you more or less penalty (or even removed some penalty!)

Also, you should look into having some LD'ers read the lines for you in a post-compo version, that would be awesome!

Thanks for the game! |
| Dec 19 05:05:00 | 12m 00s | LS-MAN | Oh man, if we merged your pacman and my pacman, we would have the best reversed pacman ever :-)

I loved the idea of clicking the ghosts to select them. I think a mix of your control scheme and mine (click the ghost to select them, click for the destination, or control with the arrows) would be great.

Also, those voice sounds were just too adorable. The "nam nam nam" had me lolling at my chair!

Thanks for all the motivational posters! |
| Dec 19 05:13:00 | 8m 00s | YOU ARE THE VILLAIN! | OMG! Public Lynchings!

Your spritework is really cute, I liked it a lot. To bad you didn't have time for sound, the "whack! Bam! Woop!" would be much cooler with those :-)

Why is the villain an old guy with a suit?? :-( I'm an old guy with a suit! Don't kick me ok?

The way that the characters moved reminded me of the "infectionator" series. It would be nice if you drew a street, or something like that, as a background and added it to your game.

Thanks! |
| Dec 19 05:35:00 | 22m 00s | Agents | I didn't manage to get this running :-( I downloaded it to my Android phone (SH007), it opens the "phone" screen, but then nothing happens. Trying to call agent 1 and 2 gives no result. Trying to call HQ asks "do you want to restart the mission"? And clicking yes to that gives no results :-(

I'm not sure if that is a problem with the sound on my phone, or if the game is just failing to start. :-( |
| Dec 19 06:07:00 | 32m 00s | MEMEX | As always, your games are gorgeously beautiful! I loved the fonts, the level designs, the sounds.

The puzzle element is also nice. The idea of having to "open up" paths by choosing which block to collapse was quite novel.

As for the story, I must confess that I didn't quite follow what happened by the end of it. So who is the player controlling actually? Is it the "dark eyed girl" wiping out the narrator's memories? Or what? The story was a bit vague, and I was lost in the end.

Thanks for the game! |
| Dec 19 06:28:00 | 21m 00s | The Hunt | The graphics are quite trippy. And the difficulty made it rather fun. Even if you didn't have the time to make a game to your own liking, this is not at all bad :-)

Thanks for the game! |
| Dec 19 06:41:00 | 13m 00s | Show Me The Money | Interesting idea for your game, but it needs a bit more balancing.

For instance, If I simply spam boats in the lake, I can get to 10.000 quite easily. On the other hand, if I try a more balanced approach using all the options, I can barely go past 4.000 coins.

I like the way that the lake changes color, and the clouds start to gather.

The first time a goat appeared, it almost scared me to that! The goats in your world are quite vicious creatures :-)

Thanks for the game. |
| Dec 19 06:54:00 | 13m 00s | Fagin | Hmmm, Interesting concept, but the execution needs work. Some ways to improve the game:

- the difference between the gentlemen and the cops need to be clearer. It took me three or four tries until I understood why I was dying all the time.

- You don't ever need to leave your hiding role, since pick-pocket works from hiding. Just hide and hold the "down" key.

- Sometimes, if you alert the guards while hidding, they will spaz all over the screen and begin moonwalking! O.o?

- It would be interesting to have some sort of limit (time?) to avoid the "I can hide and steal at the same time, neener neener" thing.

Thanks for the game! |
| Dec 19 07:02:00 | 8m 00s | RPS Battle | Avast is reporting your game :-( |
| Dec 19 07:11:00 | 9m 00s | (Don't) Save Christmas | Very cool music! I liked that when the music picked up, a lot of santas appeared at the same time -- timing the music tempo with the game tempo was great.

While I like these kind of shooting games, I found yours a little difficult to control. It was not clear to me when was the cooldown for the weapon -- was it when the explosion ended? I could never tell when I could shoot again. Maybe you should improve on that somehow?

Thanks for the game! |
| Dec 19 07:56:00 | 45m 00s | The Villain Complex | Hhm the weapon design system was genius. I loved thinking about how to design weapons that help me but not the enemies. Maybe weapons with a large arc of fire are a bit broken, because the enemies don't know how to use them well.

I really liked the game and the idea. The story didn't do much for me (other than duragon and dragon), but it was fun to play :-) |
| Dec 19 08:15:00 | 19m 00s | Lil Assassin | Short but sweet. I really liked the difficulty and the puzzles in the game. The last scene, with all the guards after you kill the king, was well thought out too.

On the other hand, there is room for improvement in the puzzles - I managed to end the game without using the wall-jumping mechanic even once. Running jumps were enough for this game.

As others have mentioned, some sound would have been great for this game - maybe jumping sfx and guard killing sfx? You can generate those using the bfxr tool.

Cheers, and thanks for the game! |
| Dec 19 08:32:00 | 17m 00s | Hunter to Hunted | I loved the graphics and the music - did you compose it yourself? or did you use some sort of generator?

To be honest, I didn't understand the game very well - you have to feed your monster, but it seems that sometimes when you get close to adventurers they kill the monster? There doesn't seem to be any reliable way to deal with the spikes. Basically, I was trying to throw adventurers at my monster's mouth until the starting adventurer dug himself out of the world :-( I'm not sure what could be done to improve the learning curve of the game - maybe easier initial levels?

Thanks for the game! |
| Dec 20 13:29:00 | 28h 57m | Critter Criminal | Very cool graphics and specially the music - you got yourself a game with a very clear personality!

I didn't "feel the evil" that much, but other than that, the game was fun.

Maybe you should add some transitions between the battle and field screens? The changes were kinda sudden.

Thanks for the game! |
| Dec 20 13:56:00 | 27m 00s | A Villain By A Chance | The concept of the game is very interesting - you have to balance spending resources to gain victory points, with keeping your resource sources active. The song was also really nice, and fits well with the abstract nature of the game.

On the other hand, the game was a bit too abstract - it felt that any theme could have been tacked on it. Something that might help in this regard would be some brief texts or images describing what are the "help" and "trouble" actions for each character - why do you have to pay morality to help the mayor? why do you lose fortune if you trouble the traveller? I believe that would make the game a bit more interesting.

Cheers, and thanks for the game! |
| Dec 20 14:01:00 | 5m 00s | You Are The Ghost Beta | Interesting idea ;-)

A few bugs you might want to try and iron out:
- Pacman doesn't eat coins or pellets (you know this one)
- If pacman goes into the teleporting tunnel, he disappears from the game (but he still seems to eat power pellets from time to time)
- You should work a bit on the "repeat" of the key, holding a movement key down means the ghost will stay stopped for a second, then move really really fast!

hope you take some time to try to fix those :-)

Cheers! |
| Dec 20 14:12:00 | 11m 00s | Mordor Must Resist! | Heh, I have a weak spots for games that go "pew pew pew", and the pews in your game were really satisfying :-) Although I must complain about your decision to require frequent clicking - My wrist was hurting after playing your game twice. It would have been better if I could just hold the button to keep shooting.

I liked the graphics. The horses were kinda bad, but the people and the eagles were nice.

It would be nice if your game stored the best scores in a session, so that the player would know if he was improving or not. BTW, I got about 1200. Not such a great score, I guess.

On an aside, have you ever heard of the book "The Last Ringbearer"? It is a retelling of Lord of The Rings, with the point of view that Mordor were actually the good guys :-)

Cheers! |
| Dec 20 14:25:00 | 13m 00s | Stop Him Now! | Wooooo, awesome game! I came here from Sonnybone's "rad roundup", and I was not disappointed! Great showing for your first ludum dares!

Let me give you some suggestions from my playthrough (some may already have been addressed in the post-compo version)

- There seems to be a bug when you kill James: Once you press Z to restart the game, the sounds gets all wonky. I think maybe the music may be playing twice at the same time.

- You need some sort of score. Probably "best time" would work best here.

Other than that, add some polish to the message screens, and you got a great game! By the way, what kind of AI does James use? |
| Dec 20 14:35:00 | 10m 00s | Twisted Neighborhood | That was quite fun and original. I liked playing with the tornado, it also felt a bit katamari-sh, which is always a good thing.

It would be cool if there were more things to blow up!

The only complaint I have is the need to tap a button - are you trying to be the villain to our poor carpal tunnels? :-D |
| Dec 20 15:00:00 | 25m 00s | Rude Bear | This game has a lot of style! At first I was "WTF", and then I got into the swing of the bear, oh yeah!

But why is the bear coming out of the water? Is it a princess bear or something?

I liked the game! Only complaint is that the relation to the theme was kinda thin. |
| Dec 20 15:18:00 | 18m 00s | Happy Little Murder Friends | The game looks really cool, and the controls are very smooth. The randomness does add some really memorable scene, such as when cars starts to collide with each other, or run over you mercilessly.

On the other hand, I found it a bit repetitive. Does anything changes when you go to the "next stage", other than the number of targets increasing?

Also it seemed to me that the only consistent way to succeed on a level was by surgically killing the targets with your punches, and ignore other weapons - it would be nice if the game was a bit more forgiving, so that we could cause more mayhem :-D

Anyway, great game!

PS: you can hit people through walls. Bug? |
| Dec 20 15:29:00 | 11m 00s | TYRANOFORCE | Very Pretty game, and fun to boot!

I know everyone is talking about music, but what I really missed in this game was some way to restart! I tried to play three or four times, and having to reload the screen every time was a bit of a shore.

Congratulations on the great game! |
| Dec 21 12:03:00 | 20h 34m | The Hill | This is a gorgeous game. The story is clear enough that we have some idea of what's going on, but at the same time vague enough that it is open to different levels of interpretations. Congratulations on the great art - both in the visuals, as in the concept of the game.

Some suggestions for improvement.

1- Since you are so focused on the narrative, maybe you should abolish the opening screen altogether. Overlay the control description over the game screen for a few seconds, before removing them and letting the game begin.

2- Sound. The lack of animation did not bother me much (could be seen as adding to the "storytime" feeling), but the lack of sound did. Even with minimal sound effects, some music to set the tone would be welcome.

3- Interactivity: It made no difference at all whether you tried to defend yourself or not, whether you were good at it or not. Some people may think differently, but I think the interactive element is very important in the game. Something should change if depending if you defend yourself or not. It doesn't need to be the ending, for example, maybe the stronger looking enemies should not appear until a bit into the game.

Cheers, and congratulations on the very moving story! |
| Dec 21 12:18:00 | 15m 00s | A Maze Game | Welcome to Ludum Dare!

You took the time to make a title screen, and the acceleration felt nice. The collision detection was also without problems!

A few simple suggestions to improve your game:

1- Regarding collision detection, you could try to detect if the collision happened in the horizontal or vertical axis, and remove the speed in only that axis. The end effect is that the player will "slide" when colliding to a wall, instead of stopping immediately. I think this would make the controls more satisfying.

2- When you collect all the pieces in a level, it is not obvious that you need to go to the exit. I thought that the game had ended there! You should light up the exit or something.

3- One think that make even the simplest game a lot of fun is score! If you kept a running clock, the player could try to challenge himself to finish your maze in as little time as possible.

See you next LD! |
| Dec 21 12:55:00 | 37m 00s | Cinders | This game taught me that trees burn up faster than humans! :-)

The screams! The screams with the tranquil song in the background! And is that the bear laughing that I hear? This game made me FEEL evil - I enjoyed the screams!

A few things that would have improved the game:
- A minimap?
- Some variation in the human sprites

A small bug:
- The game did not close when I clicked the "close window" button

Awesome game, made me laugh! Thanks :-) |
| Dec 21 13:22:00 | 27m 00s | against your past | The "Villain is your previous self" idea is very good, and very promising.

The "arrow keys + mouse" control scheme is a bit awkward. ASDW+mouse, or arrow keys + space button would be easier to use. Or better yet, make multiple options!

Also, the difficulty curve was a bit high, I'm not sure what could be done to improve that.

Thanks for the new idea! |
| Dec 21 13:39:00 | 17m 00s | THE PRINCESS IS MINE | This game is incredibly fun! I loved it!

The graphics are simple and to the point, they work very well. It would be interesting if there was some indication of what upgrades a minion had. Or are the upgrades applied to all minions? After a while I lost track of which minion had which upgrade.

The movement is very smooth. Although I found some bugs: once two of my minions got stuck and wouldn't move. Other times the minions or enemies would jerk around.

The music works very well! It could get boring if the game was longer, but it was the right length. The ending screens are also OK.

Loved the little cameos of the enemies.

Thanks for recommending this game to me :-D |
| Dec 21 13:44:00 | 5m 00s | The Villain - Christmas will not be | Got this error:

Could not find the main class: EpicEngine. Program will exit. |
| Dec 21 14:23:00 | 39m 00s | MidBoss | This game is FRUSTRATINGLY fun. It caused a serious case of "just-one-more-try" syndrome on me. You sir, are the villain for torturing me so.

I never made it past the first level - I try to go for the bat for leech, and then for the skeleton for XP. If I make it to the skeleton, I can clear most of the level, but I almost never make it that far.

It would be nice if there was some sort of indication about how far you are from learning a new skill. Since the game is so difficult, all information that can be used to make a strategy is welcome!

Thanks for the game.

Also, some way to restart the game, other than closing it and opening it up again, would be more than welcome. Cheers! |
| Dec 21 14:34:00 | 11m 00s | It Should be a Crime! | Very unique take on the game and on the gameplay as well!

The game was kinda short, but I liked it a lot. Maybe longer lines with more time to work on them would make the game more interesting :-)

Thanks for the game! And oh yeah, line cutting should be a crime! |
| Dec 21 15:00:00 | 26m 00s | The Quite Annoying League | That was villanous. That small talk guy was awesome :-)

Like always, I love your spritework. This game was quite fun, and the dialogue was great.

It would be cool if more scenes had more than one way to finish them.

Thanks for the game! |
| Dec 21 15:10:00 | 10m 00s | Bad Santa | The game is interesting, but it is kinda full of bugs. For example, if I shoot while facing left, Santa will dash while shooting. Sometimes when I hit a present, santa dies for no reason.

Some sort of progress indicator (x out of y presents collected) would also be nice.

Cheers, and good luck next LD! |
| Dec 21 15:37:00 | 27m 00s | Elevator Evil | Very nice idea, and very nice music! This is a cool puzzle game.

The guys exploding because of stress is kinda surreal :-)

I think that the background has a bit of too much contrast with the building and sprites. If you make a post-compo version, you might want to address that, to give your game a more consistent feel.

Also, you should take a look at your texts, some parts are quite hard to understand :-)

Thanks for the game! |
| Dec 21 15:56:00 | 19m 00s | Makarun | The game is pretty cool, and pretty fun. I think the goat thing was a bit too gratuitous, and detracted a bit from the overall "groove" of the game. I really liked the in-game message icons.

Cheers, and thanks for the game! |
| Dec 22 16:09:00 | 24h 13m | Dr. Vile in The Greater Good | SQUEE, this game was so cute! And fun, I loved it!

I was surprised by the challenge level. I had to go hunt trees for healing myself, while keeping away from all the townfolk. Like an apple vampire or something. And I was really sad for Dr. Vile's fate.

One thing about the game... is it possible to beat it "peaceful mode"? At first, I tried to clear the game without killing anyone, but then I soon gave up... it is impossible, or is it? I mean, the enemies don't forget their aggro status, etc.

It would be cool if there was a different ending (even if a minor variation), if you could finish the game without killing a single civilian.

Also, one little downside, the music got repetitive after a while.

Thanks for the very fun game! |
| Dec 22 16:27:00 | 18m 00s | Trina of The Depths | The movement scheme was really unique, and rather fun. I had no problem moving the octopus around (even pre-upgrade), and I enjoyed a lot "swimming" like that.

Too bad that the game had such an abrupt ending. I would have enjoyed playing a more complete level.

Some sounds for coin collecting would have been great.

Also what is the last enemy? |
| Dec 22 16:37:00 | 10m 00s | Dr. Villano | I really like the sound effects and music of this game. The pixel work is very nice too. The player's spaceship felt a bit out of place when compared to the other sprites, for some reason.

One big complaint about this game is that we need to keep pressing mouse button to shoot. This hurts the hand and eventually gets people tired of playing, so maybe you should consider letting the player hold down the button to fire continuously.

It would be really cool if the cars could collide between themselves. |
| Dec 22 16:52:00 | 15m 00s | Kill The Day! | I found the "horde of zombies" mechanic very interesting - I was using the zombies as baits, so that I could take a clear shot at the soldiers from a distance without being shot.

I think the game could use a clearer hud. It was hard to tell when my life was getting near zero with so much going on the screen.

Also, it was hard to tell apart the zombies from the soldiers in the beginning.

Thanks for the game! |
| Dec 22 17:02:00 | 10m 00s | My damn coffee. | Humor and voice acting is something really hard to get right. I almost gave up on your game because, frankly, the narration in the beginning was too annoying :-P

Luckily, I didn't, because the game was rather fun. It was fast paced, and the enemies spawn was fast enough that sometimes fighting them out was simply not an option.

I think you did pretty well on the gameplay department. Work a bit more on the graphics and sounds (by the way, the game over sound would keep playing even if I restarted the game immediately), and you will have a great game!

Also, a suggestion: once you beat the game, it is really easy to speed run it. You could try to implement some sort of random mazes to keep the game fresh.

Cheers, |
| Dec 22 17:23:00 | 21m 00s | GLORPLAX III | It is a very novel idea. And very frustrating, perhaps a bit too much.

I got stuck at the 356m room, the one with three spikes in a row. After spending almost 4 minutes there, it started to get repetitive and I gave up.

Cheers, |
| Dec 22 17:29:00 | 6m 00s | Villain | The sounds were cute, specially the jumping sound, but that is about it. In the game description you said to kill at least 500 cats, but I couldn't go on past 60-something. Maybe reduce that goal and make whatever happens at 500, to happen at 50 or 100 instead? |
| Dec 22 17:40:00 | 11m 00s | Dungeon Tycoon | Very interesting concept. The dungeon might be a bit too big though. Maybe start with only two or three rooms, and expand as necessary? I played three times and I don't think I've seen the entire dungeon.

Also balance could be improved a bit to make the game more dynamic (making heroes, skeletons and hearts spawn faster)

Thanks for the game! |
| Dec 22 17:51:00 | 11m 00s | Infect the World | It was really interesting, but a bit too much on the easy side. Needs some balancing to improve :-) Is it possible to actually lose a stage?

One very big complaint though: When the virus spreads to the world, Madagascar is the first country infected! That makes no sense! Madagascar should be the last place infected! If it was infected at all :-)

Cheers, and thanks for the game! |
| Dec 22 17:56:00 | 5m 00s | Power Grab | Nice music, and a somewhat fun game. The link to the theme is a bit tenous - you could improve it by using enemies that reinforce your idea of "a villain stealing artifacts". So instead of robots and aliens, put in some police officers or something like that!

Thanks for the game. |
| Dec 23 03:27:00 | 9h 31m | Angry Purple Monster | Good work on the graphics. The animation of the monster was really smooth and realistic. The Otomata made music was the right choice for the mood.

I think it would be nice if the score was in the play area, so that the player knows how close he is to beating his previous score.

Some sort of feedback when the monster gets hurt would help a lot - I didn't realize that touching the planes caused damage until I noticed my health bar had mysteriously been reduced. Or maybe make the health bar more noticeable?

Thanks for the game! |
| Dec 23 03:32:00 | 5m 00s | Space Liberators | The game froze for me every time I tried to buy a new ship.

Some sounds would have made quite the difference - you can make very simple and effective sounds using the BFXR software :-)

The gameplay was quite interesting, and it is a solid take on the theme. I like how the player's ships have a more "evil" look than the enemies.

Good luck next LD! |
| Dec 23 03:41:00 | 9m 00s | Sir Cat | Good try! I found the game a bit constraining, since you couldn't move the cat around - all you could do was try to shoot straight ahead and keep the mouse away. It would have been very nice if you could move the cat, or at least aim the shot somehow.

Also, the hit box of the cat was too big, sometimes a mouse would fly way below the cat, and still count as a hit. Even if you can't implement a tilted hitbox, I think just reducing the cat's hitbox would help a lot!

Maybe you should add some way to tell if a mouse hit you or not? such as a "hit" animation from the mouse, or some sort of sound?

Finally, after finishing the game, I couldn't hit the "close" button in the window to quit.

Good luck next LD! |
| Dec 23 03:46:00 | 5m 00s | CostumeD | 1- PLEASE don't name your file "LD25.jar". This is the fourth java entry that I rated that was simply named "LD25.jar".

2- I couldn't run your entry. Either the web version or the standalone version didn't work. Windows 8 with latest java. |
| Dec 23 04:15:00 | 29m 00s | Princess Sheltering | It was actually quite a fun game! Got up to the fourth stage (Getting hard? Great!)

I really liked the simple graphics, specially the piles of knight corpses at the base of the tower, and the happy, smiling wizard.

I think the earlier stages were a bit too long - specially the first stage.

One thing that would improve your game a lot (besides sounds) is adding a score - hitting multiple knights at once should give you a bonus to the score. This would add a risk-reward component to the game.

Also, I would reduce the frequency of the goat clouds - the WTF surprise is funnier when it is rarer :-)

Thank you! Pretty decent game! |
| Dec 23 04:42:00 | 27m 00s | THE CONDEMNED | Very nice atmosphere and story. I specially liked the sound effects. The little easter egg comments on the shift menu were welcome! (In fact, Windows asked me if I wanted to engage accessibility mode for pressing shift so many times in a row)

A few bugs and issues I noticed:
- Flashlight not working on sewers: I know you said it is a feature, not a bug, but it confused the hell out of me that it worked in the lit areas but not the dark ones. Just remove the batteries altogether?
- Flashlight remained in my inventory when I went for a second play through of the game.
- Since the game focuses so much on the story, it would have been nice to have the options for subtitles. Some ESL players might not get all the details from the captain's husky voice.
- The first time I did the ending sequence, choosing to save myself, at first I thought I was being ejected from the ship, and that it was a trap. That was a cool thought, but obviously not what you intended.

Cheers, and thanks for the game! |
| Dec 23 04:56:00 | 14m 00s | The Button | Hey Puzzlemon, thanks for the game.

I liked your theme decision. A villain's reflection after the end of the world sounds interesting. It reminded me a bit of the "war of the brothers" series of Dragonlance books.

* The sprites are nice, but the animation is a bit messed up - it looks that they are just twitching while walking.
* The lack of sound works to set the mood of the game, but maybe some appropriate musical score would have been a better choice? But I know how hard that is to pull off.
* The platforming part was pretty solid.
* On the last room, to make people realize that they don't need to press the button, maybe you should make the button less proeminent? Maybe a very small (2-3px) button on the top of a small pixel pedestal? Then the hero would stand out more.

Thanks for the game! |
| Dec 23 05:04:00 | 8m 00s | Unwavering Evil | Thanks for the game!

The jumping control was a bit wonky - it seemed that sometimes I was able to double jump, sometimes I wasn't.

Also I ended up almost never using the lightning - it just took too long to kill anything with it. Maybe it needs some balancing.

It was a cool idea to have the airplanes explode in contact, so that you could throw soldiers and robots at it.

Some sound effects would be extremely welcome in this game.

Good luck next LD! |
| Dec 23 05:06:00 | 2m 00s | Greed | Problem with Windows build:

Cannot find the main class: Greed.Greed |
| Dec 23 05:21:00 | 15m 00s | Super Escape | Very innovative game play. I like the controls and the idea of a "turn-based" platformer.

The game would have been much more fun if there weren't a couple of bugs:
1- If the game lost focus for any reason (clicking outside of the screen, or alt-tabbing), it would often lose track of the mouse cursor, and the villain would simply disappear from the screen, with no way to return.

2- There was no way to end the game, and with the mouse cursor captured by the program, it was hard to click on the close window button.

Polish it a little more and you got a really unique game on your hands. Thanks! |
| Dec 23 05:45:00 | 24m 00s | ALL EARTHLINGS MUST DIE!!!!!! | Yeah baby, make it rain Pew Pews! A mortal game of "red light green light"

I loved this game! The visuals of the enemy and player ships were spot on, the music, sound effects and particles were also great. This was a great take on the "reverse-x" game.

Some thoughts:
- I think the game was a bit on the easy side, while it was fun, maybe you could have ramped the difficulty a bit. After about 10 levels or so, I had to sacrifice myself to die. Maybe make lasers faster over time, or jack up the shooting frequency of the enemy.

- Some score would have done WONDERS for this game. Give some points for every enemy shipped killed, plus bonus points at the end of the stage for time/surviving ships. Then a high score screen: BAM! Replayability!

- If we always want to shoot all the time, why do we have to mash spacebar? Maybe you could have a lower rate of fire if the player held the space bar, and then he could fire a bit faster if he wanted to mash it.

- Now I know I said the game was a bit on the easy side, but it would have been great, for the sake of nostalgia, if we could blow up the defensive walls. Not sure how to balance that - maybe the walls get stronger over levels?

Thanks for the awesome game! |
| Dec 25 13:38:00 | 55h 53m | Robin Banks | This was a cute little game. Well polished, with nice graphics and sounds, and no noticeable bugs. I liked it a lot.

It would be cool if there was some sort of progression - maybe updates or some way to recover life, etc. |
| Dec 25 13:59:00 | 21m 00s | Monologuer | Mwahahahaha, Mwahahaha! Mwahaha!

Mwahahahahahahahahahahah!

Great game man! Perfect use of the theme, and very good humor. The game play is quite fun as well, although a bit on the easy side. It would be cool if there were a few more enemy types (jumping? randomly changing speed?) so the game could be more difficult.

But thanks for the great game! |
| Dec 25 14:31:00 | 32m 00s | Red Legion | Very nice game! I loved the story and the twist. I usually don't like "story" games, but this one made me smile with the ending :-)

The main thing that needs some improvement is the sound, that was quite grating. But other than that I loved your game!

Also consider adding a more complex "type-fighting"? :-) |
| Dec 25 14:39:00 | 8m 00s | Eaten | That was pretty neat. Even if it was only a demo, I really felt like wanting to play the completed game.

The Onomnom sound effects were hilarious.

By the way, as the game stands right now, it is better to try to kill as many people as fast as possible, and worry about eating the corpses later. A good strategy is to work from the back of a walking line. :-)

Thanks for the fun game! |
| Dec 25 15:04:00 | 25m 00s | Evil Keeper | Very interesting game, it has a lot of potential! I really loved the boss battles. At first, I thought it was a little limiting that we couldn't control where we will teleport to, but after a while that style of battle grew on me.

On the other hand, the game felt a bit repetitive. You probably need other furniture for the dungeon. Reducing the price for placing tiles would also help a lot.

I loved the boss death animation! I hope you have some time to work a bit on the other graphics of the game.

Thanks for the game! |
| Dec 25 15:09:00 | 5m 00s | Super Goon | Hmmmm, interesting idea, but maybe you went a bit too far with the "deep" message? It would have probably been more interesting if the hero moved a little bit differently each time, so that the goomba would have some (false) hope that something would happen next time.

Cheers! |
| Dec 25 15:18:00 | 9m 00s | Mister Misbehave | Pretty interesting game. I liked the difficulty and the gameplay, it was rather fun to try and beat the enemies.

Maybe a larger playing field would make the game a bit more forgiving in the beginning? |
| Dec 25 15:31:00 | 13m 00s | Storm the Castle | Pretty cool idea. It feels more like a puzzle game, where you have to pick up the right critters to win one or two times, than a castle defense where you throw dozens of critters to get a few through the defenses. Maybe you need to do some balancing with the price of the units, and the number of life points of the enemy if you want the game to feel more like the later? |
| Dec 25 15:48:00 | 17m 00s | Burglary | Great game play. I loved being able to adjust one's own lights, and the lock picking minigame. It had just the right amount of challenge.

I also really like how you dealt with the autotracker music, selecting a bunch of different titles and making a nice little jukebox of them.

The game needs a bit more polish in the opening, transition screens, and some of the map tiles. But given that polish, I can see people spending a lot of time in this game.

How easy is it to make new levels? You should consider adding a level editor :-) |
| Dec 25 15:59:00 | 11m 00s | AnteChristmas | Pretty cool game!

I think you captured perfectly the mood and spirit of those game and watch systems. I felt myself nostalgia-ing hard while I played your game.

Only problem is that the difficulty didn't seemed to increase over time. Once I got myself a rhythm in the factory, I couldn't see how Santa could ever hope to defeat me. Maybe the presents/Santa could speed up over time?

Also, it would be a neat little extra bonus if the "buttons" on the game foreground were clickable :-)

Thanks for the creative entry! |
| Dec 25 16:14:00 | 15m 00s | Atomic Creep Spawner!! | That was a pretty fun game, and it made me FEEL evil, as I threw all those creepers at the hero. Damn, I hate hate hate that hero :-D

The hero could have been a bit more intelligent though. Since monster 3 and 2 could shoot/attack through walls, all you really needed to do was to slow the hero down with hordes of zombies until you could put a shooting monster in the back lines.

The one liners from the heroes and monsters were gold, and the game was gorgeous.

Thanks for the game! |
| Dec 25 16:29:00 | 15m 00s | Interfection | Very interesting and different idea, but it felt a bit hard to play.

I passed the first level by "pushing" people away when they got stuck near my beacons, and then making them sad again (so evil!), which replenished my power bar.

On level two, though, this trick didn't work. I was "teasing" two of the white dots, by my evil bar kept falling.

If you can balance the game a bit more, this looks like an awesome entry in the making!

Thanks for the game! |
| Dec 25 16:39:00 | 10m 00s | Lunch Hunter | Pretty cool entry. The "ah", "ouch" sounds of the ants were cool, but the other sounds, not so much :-)

Maybe you could have some way to "win" the level (time limit?) and be moved to a harder next level?

Thanks for the game! |
| Dec 25 16:51:00 | 12m 00s | The Filthy Coward | hmmmm the game is kinda full of bugs. You have two possible "attacks" - one of them causes the NPC to walk backwards, the other to run forward. If you stand behind an NPC and mash the "walk backwards" button, you can easily accumulate enough points to go to the next level. You can probably fix this by limiting the interaction to 1 per NPC.

Also the policemen are laughably easy to avoid, maybe they should walk towards the player if they see the player causing trouble?

Finally, you cannot include music created by other people in your 48 hour compo, even if the music is free to use. The only acceptable assets are fonts and sound samples :-)

Cheers, and good luck next LD! |
| Dec 25 17:03:00 | 12m 00s | Crime Scene | That is a pretty interesting game, although it was a bit too hard for me. Maybe if there was an option to accelerate the game time? I found myself getting a bit impatient with the pace when I wanted to test a few suspects.

Thanks for the very different game! |
| Dec 25 17:22:00 | 19m 00s | Sisyphus | That was a very interesting and unique idea! I liked that you made it so that each trap would hit the hero only once, to avoid some simple abuses, like walking back and forth. Still, there was plenty of space for player abuse :-)

The game could use some sound effects! |
| Dec 25 17:35:00 | 13m 00s | Kroc Le Vilain | Very cute game, with great sounds.
I liked how the goats and butterflies served to distract the player and cause some degree of risk-reward.

The web version didn't work for me, and the congregate version kept popping a "register at kongregate" dialogue box after I won the game :-(

Thanks for the great game! |
| Dec 27 13:17:00 | 43h 42m | SpaceGreed | Very interesting concept. It puts together two things that I love: Pew Pews and base building.

I felt that the game could use some love and polish, but I think this has immense potential.

On the base building side, it isn't very clear at first that you are building a top scroller stage. Maybe you should make the player do one attack round before being allowed to build? Then things get clearer.

Also, the lag was kinda bad. Sometimes I double clicked on a space in the board, THEN moved my mouse, and THEN the tile appeared, at the mouse's new position. Maybe base building could be done all on the client side, and then have the client press save to send the base or something?

Please get rid of the goat walls, they're terrible :-P But other than that, great game! Please continue developing on it! |
| Dec 27 14:07:00 | 50m 00s | Kittenzilla 3: The Return of Mecha-Kittenzilla | Heh, interesting game, but the controls are a bit bad. Mouse sensitivity is over the roof, so I had some hard time controlling it.

Since the kitten is a mecha, some sort of map HUD, showing position of the tanks, would be welcome.

I really liked the physics of destroyed buildings. |
| Dec 27 14:22:00 | 15m 00s | Be the Villain | Very interesting concept, and nice graphics and polish. I wish there were more than two levels!

I don't like that the prices vary between two items with the same image - since you are limited by time, it should be possible to have a more accurate evaluation of price just by looking at what is available.

But thanks for the game! |
| Dec 27 14:59:00 | 37m 00s | Video Games Cause Mass Shootings | Hmm. The game elements were interesting. You got some solid platforming in there. In the last level, when you ask the player to press space, the game just closes. This may be intended, but it feels like a bug. Maybe do this a bit differently? Go back to the title screen instead?

As for the message, while I get what you want to say, I think the message might not be coming across very well in the game as it current stands. It is good for reflection, but everything has a feel of inevitability to it, that it might make it difficult to draw any conclusions unless you come to the game already holding an opinion.

Thanks for the game, and keep up the good job! |
| Dec 27 15:09:00 | 10m 00s | They All Fall Down | Very cool idea, and great take on the theme. The "reset" button was not very clear. Maybe add a name to it in the first few levels?

It was not very clear to me if there was any way to make men reliably go up holes. I managed to do it once (maybe at level 5?) but I'm not sure whether it was intended. |
| Dec 27 15:23:00 | 14m 00s | Demon Quest | Very nice graphics. The movement is kinda slow, and the clicking is not very responsible, but I liked the script. |
| Dec 27 15:49:00 | 26m 00s | Seeds of Wrath | Very cool, but rather difficult Game. Thanks for the challenge! |
