LD26 — Minimalism

Mondrianism by Jezzamon 2013-04-29T06:00:00

I like this very much. I felt the music soothing, and the Mondrian theme very well done. If you keep working on this, a small (time-delayed) shaded hint to show where the current block of color could move would be a great addition to avoid user frustration.

I didn't have any problems after I read the tutorial :)

Friendship in a Post-Apocalyptic World by marnaouf 2013-04-30T00:02:00

I barely didn't make it, the blue dude's house was at 4 when I did manage to get them together.

Kall Me Krieg by rhysvdw 2013-04-29T23:57:00

nope, no link. Please update links so we can actually rate :)

Mondricraft by GAFBlizzard 2013-04-29T05:19:00

I liked what you can achieve with this. Maybe have a tutorial/cheat sheet sidebar? The commands were really hard to remember, and losing your image every time you checked it out with Q is rough.

DE-REZZED: Survival by playvue 2013-04-30T00:06:00

So a couple of bugs.
1) I had an enemy player literally put a wall OVER MY WALL without being de-rezzed.
2) when turning, it seems to pick a spot in an unseen grid to perform the turn, meaning that I can never be certain where I'm turning. So I turn X amount of pixels ahead of where I am.

DeaN by Sakuyan 2013-04-30T01:00:00

Someone tell Dean that he could avoid a lot more people if he stopped walking :P

IMBARINTH by brookman 2013-04-30T00:14:00

I think that emotion! No link!

S by rodrigomotta 2013-04-30T00:13:00

Same as others. Will rate when I see a link :)

Zombie Blocks Attack by hgouveia 2013-04-29T14:36:00

I like the concept and the look, but it seems that I could easily find spots where all I had to do was not move, not engage the zombies, and they'd never be able to reach me. Also, the green boxes were NOT clearly ammo until I ran out of bullets :)

PLOG by Gungnir 2013-04-29T17:59:00

This was a pretty fun game. Easy to grasp, good mechanic. Wish there were more shapes, and perhaps some trickery involved (like two shapes coming at you very close to one another)

Sociales Santillana by Ithildin 2013-04-29T14:58:00

I had to freeze time and work on it for quite a few minutes before I FINALLY understood the rules. More explicit animation would've helped immensely. Colors were changing all over the place and I had no idea why some clicks were working and others weren't. It wasn't until I started to imagine the animations that things clicked.

Ok, so if anyone else is as stuck as me: look at the first screenshot of the submission. The only valid move is to click on the orange block right above the center and then click on the red block above it. That will SHIFT the entire column UP. Then, the orange blocks will make a 'C' shape (as the orange block will connect to the other two orances in the L shape). Colors will change to fill those gaps. There are no other valid moves.

When you click on a color that's adjacent to it in the same 'ring', you're trying to ROTATE the entire ring. You can either have 3 colors connected in the same ring, or 3 colors connected in the same stack.

Suggestions: Add rotation animation. Make the shuffle automatic when there are no more moves. Perhaps add a perma-hint mode, where clicking on a block shows the valid moves it can make, and ONLY the valid moves it can make.

Sociales Santillana by Ithildin 2013-04-29T16:20:00

Yes. I had a co-worker play it and EVEN WALKING HIM THROUGH IT, it still took him a while to get. He was under the impression that we were swapping colors, NOT moving an entire ring/stack.

So I went ahead and made a tutorial image. Recommend you do something similar to it for your screenshot :)

Sociales Santillana by Ithildin 2013-04-29T16:53:00

never mind, I just realized that I was wrong, and it's a swap, not a shift of a stack. :)

See? Confusing, but fun ;)

This was a really great entry. It fit the theme in a fantastic manner, and everything felt very polished. I managed to beat it, was a bit disappointed that all it did was wrap around, but ... well, but I guess that's part of the theme :)

Mondritron: 2026 by Dotanukii 2013-04-29T05:42:00

I actually enjoyed this game quite a bit. I'm surprised it was over so quickly. I feel that the controls could use a bit of tweaking, though. I didn't like having to tap the arrow keys every time I wanted to fire. I felt it should be more like robotron, where you hold down the direction and you keep firing non-stop.

With The Wind by GameRespect 2013-04-29T06:48:00

You know what would make this like 100 times better? Making the window bigger. Not making it bigger, and keeping the square small, I mean make it BIGGER. It's very claustrophobic to play this tiny game in a huge browser window.

Otherwise, I liked the idea. It's simple, it's fun. It's basically Brownian motion in action :)

Or am I thinking of Zero-point energy?

Monoboy by jhrrsn 2013-04-30T00:41:00

At first, I thought it was a cookie. Then, I thought it was a deformed moon. Then, I saw what it was...

Great game, though. I liked the concept, I dislike the 'up = continuous jumping' that so many games have, but everything looked top-notch.

The Minimalism Quest by Pol 2013-04-29T06:56:00

Very good graphics. A bit morbid at the end. No one can say that they're being surprised by a penis, though: it's right there on the first screenshot.

Potato Dungeon by _Rilem 2013-04-30T15:09:00

Best game so far. Really done in just 72 hours? That's amazing.

Approximately pi over two by Cryovat 2013-04-30T00:10:00

I don't know if this is on purpose, but as SOON as I hit the 'squiggle' level, the entire tab CLOSED on me (the Chrome tab running the game). That's a very drastic way to say 'game over'.

Soldier of Yellowism by ovenchips 2013-05-01T16:43:00

For chrome users, at least, be sure that you notice that little popup that shows up at the top of the screen asking to disable the mouse cursor, otherwise you won't be able to turn around completely.

Life by caporaltito 2013-05-01T21:48:00

I liked the concept, but what I could do seemed also to be a bit confusing. I was trying to 'collide' with other lives/people to see how we would interact, but apparently that's not possible. Also, sometimes I would grow so faint that I just lost myself and had no idea even what square I was (even with the arrow). I'd love to see a v1.1 (with perhaps an ESC key for easy exit)

OCDC by roaet 2013-04-29T03:56:00

I cannot devote the time needed to try to complete this. Some puzzles seem really hard (I had to stop at level 12). I do like it, and I might come back to it later.

Jetpack Cube Man by TrentSterling 2013-04-29T05:07:00

Well, it's an unfinished game, and will rate it accordingly. The floor looks great, though. Keep it up, there's a game in there to be finished.

Bonk by tove 2013-04-29T06:15:00

I get it, but at the same time, it stops being a game after 10 hits. Everything is black, so ... it's impossible to see paddle or ball. I don't think stereo headphones help me at all at this point.

Wait for it... NOW! by visibleatom 2013-04-29T03:33:00

I also posted a video showing the progression of the game, at http://youtu.be/0M3Bm7PcDUg

Also, undocumented feature: press + to spawn more color zones.

Wait for it... NOW! by visibleatom 2013-04-29T05:02:00

Alright, let me try a small tutorial:

Sweeper coming at you. You don't want to be hit by sweeper, so press W. That will make you choose a new spot to be on. A little black nub will show up on you telling you where you're aiming, and you'll slowly shift colors to match what you're aiming at.

Once you have completely changed colors, Click, and you'll be teleported to that spot.

So, W to select a random target, click to jump to it.

So 5 things:
1) Changing colors is not automatic, so every time you press W, expect to only have a jump ready in 2 seconds.
2) ALL Sweepers on the board will change directions and head towards you when you have finished shifting colors
3) You pick a target at random.
4) While shifting colors, Sweepers are in 'sweep' mode (white) and will sweep in whatever direction they were originally headed.
5) You can choose a new target at any time.

That's the basic gameplay. Q allows for some strategizing, as you can re-shuffle the positions, in case you don't like the board as it is. You can shuffle both while hidden as well as while you're targeted to another zone.

Sorry that they're so fast. I thought they might be too slow. Clearly I should've accounted for dev-difficulty :(

Wait for it... NOW! by visibleatom 2013-04-29T05:02:00

But hey, thanks for playing! :)

Wait for it... NOW! by visibleatom 2013-04-29T06:05:00

I can think of many ways that I can make this a better game. Maybe not making the teleportation target random, but then also allowing for more sweepers at once, would be a big improvement. I shall keep developing it (although it won't be in the LD links).

Argh. But keep commenting, even if it's nasty. I don't mind.

AlterSpace by guestcheap 2013-04-29T06:42:00

Jumping seems bugged after moving cubes in edit mode. Whenever I exit edit mode, I often simply cannot jump anymore.

Formless Reliquary by PsenFilip 2013-04-29T14:30:00

446, 14. A couple of those were because I turned my head away at the wrong time.

Mondrian's Frogger by doobdargent 2013-04-30T23:41:00

I liked the use of the Mondrian landscape in your entry. Just wish the high scores didn't go away with arrow keys; I'm usually mashing them when I die.

Colors by oyster_crusher 2013-04-30T21:38:00

I'm not sure if I cheated, but I basically ended up using player death as a way to get past the bridge level.

hru by gilmore606 2013-04-30T17:36:00

great game. Sad that you couldn't get gamepad support in, specially with the tease of it accepting the 'A' button to start :)

Prisma by sophron 2013-05-01T16:33:00

Your links are all pointing to the source zip. You really should at least fix the web link to point to your game instead of relying on the description

Color Blind by Alec Von Arx 2013-05-03T16:26:00

It does get frustrating trying to judge the color value of one pixel, but it's a good game. Is it actually possible for colorblind people to play this?

Mandala by arrogant.gamer 2013-04-29T18:02:00

It's hard to judge, based on the core mechanic of the game. I saw a house, and a garden, and talked to an old woman (who was not on vacation). Hard to tell which choices might be going away soon.

GUtGD by Crefossus 2013-04-29T16:59:00

I'm not sure if I'm missing something. So, controls are up/down (took me a few deaths before I figured it out). I got all the speed-up objects, avoided all the triangles, but then, I just drift off into space? I go past a giant block, then I see ramps (that I can't get on), and then...nothing?

minimalism by tchagnon 2013-04-29T06:13:00

Same thing Test User said. Considering the background is white, the color outside the app is white, it makes it VERY hard to know how much time you have left (web version)

Extruder by bitbof 2013-04-30T17:01:00

Fun game. I think it's definitely something that you should consider working on and making more levels. The changing walls added quite a bit of challenge.

Mondrian Click by CherryNukaCola 2013-04-29T05:12:00

I hit 27 once I realized what was going on (didn't read instructions in submission page). There seems to be a bug in the click-detection, though, as many times I had both the crosshair AND the mouse pointer on a yellow dot and it took multiple clicks to get it to register.

hunter hungry by Jonathan Whiting 2013-04-29T06:34:00

I didn't finish it. I wanted to, but it's so late and I have so many games to review. I gotta say, I really want to finish this game. I couldn't find any bugs, the level design is good, the theme is brilliant. I would love to know what tools you used for this game.

hunter hungry by Jonathan Whiting 2013-04-29T14:59:00

unclejunkie: shoot arrows at boxes with red corners, and you'll create a vine and swing from it.

hunter hungry by Jonathan Whiting 2013-04-30T23:46:00

So this thing KEEPS MY PROGRESS? This is fantastic. I will actually finish this game eventually :)

min-max by tgwozdz 2013-04-29T05:28:00

I enjoyed it. After failing once, I had no problems understanding how to proceed. I think that it's a bit too random as far as how zones get created, so it's easy to click on what USED to be a closed zone except one of the edges JUST went away this frame. It took a few tries until I realized that I COULD overlap without game-ending penalties.

I didn't play enough to see whether there's a 'success' condition. What happens if you fill up the entire screen? Victory dance?
