PUMPKING RISING by peringo 2023-01-11T05:20:38Z

Wow, the is a very impressive submission! There are so many features, it looks amazing, sounds great. Having a tutorial at the beginning was incredibly helpful (though I too struggled with switching to the seed bag for a bit), and the ability to kind of choose your own difficulty is unique for sure - I definitely went in over my head a few times, but it was still fun. I was longing for maybe one more type of weapon, but as I said, there was already more in this than I expected for a jam!

Apples of Agony by Joey Shipley 2023-01-09T22:09:34Z

Lovely graphics and I like the concept of having a tree friend! I'm not too sure if it would work, but I think you could get away with having more frequent fruit spawns if they also wiggled or something right before they fell, I spent a lot of time just waiting for something to happen in the early stages. Great submission, though!

Totally Normal Farming Simulator by Lawrence 2023-01-10T01:21:57Z

That was a fun puzzle game! I think I only got about halfway through before getting stuck, I was trying a bunch of things but couldn't quite figure out what was next - some small hints might be nice. Impressive how much you were able to pull off, though!

The Ballad of Eric Hernandez, Cattle Rancher by GeraldFIngBurke 2023-01-09T17:13:20Z

I think I found a viable strategy, but I need to spend a bit more time testing it to validate. I will say, my immersion was shattered when the older cows began to disappear, but then I realized this is just the way life goes.

Harvest Rush by Steven Garberg 2023-01-10T01:00:00Z

Straightforward, on theme, and well made! If I were going to suggest anything, maybe playing around with how you fill the baskets could be neat - such as "tossing" them instead of just drag and drop? But it was fun!

Crop Circle by Rulrite 2023-01-09T05:07:10Z

This is incredibly polished for a game jam, at least in my experience! Very cool concept, though it did feel like there wasn't much to it after a while, the timers popped up quickly enough and weren't hard to grab. I liked it overall though!

Wheat melody by EasyLuckyGem 2023-01-09T18:07:44Z

I gave it a shot, but I wasn't able to figure out which buttons I need to press, other than R restarting 😅 It looks and sounds nice, though!

Harvest Swarm by LuhUchiha 2023-01-09T22:49:21Z

That's too bad about the compo deadline, but jams are just as good! I like the concept, it's definitely a farming game first and foremost which is very on theme. Scrambling to get the bug spray added some tension at first, but it became kind of tedious when I could only plant two or three things before having to run all the way back. Maybe some kind of ammo counter where you have to run back only to refill? Plenty of room for growth (no pun intended) with the mechanics anyway, great work!

Harvest Village by Ja_viera 2023-01-09T18:16:02Z

Very impressive showing! There's a lot of detail in the town you made, and it was nice to just look around while trying to suck out blood. The gameplay did feel a little binary, there may have been more ways to handle the "combat", but overall it was fun and looked really good!

Escape the Harvest by greenkingwashere 2023-01-09T06:07:26Z

I thought the theme was on point! Props for making such a large (and well decorated!) level in such a short time, and for having multiple characters. Some small bugs aside (I somehow got two cows at once, and was "caught" but didn't get a game over one time), I think something that might be nice is some help in terms of where to go. It was pretty easy to get lost and backtrack by accident, but it also wouldn't be fun to just have directions so I'm not too sure what to do about that. Maybe a minimap that gets filled out as you go?

Drake's Fortune by chompdev 2023-01-11T03:59:47Z

Quite the impressive showing for a jam! I liked how much progression you managed to add, not just for the drake but also for the castles and their defenses. I agree with both the fire breath being a bit weak, and being slightly disappointed when I knocked down a tower and the archer just stood there covered in bricks, but otherwise it was a fun loop!

Astral Aberration by ModdingMachine 2023-01-09T23:49:08Z

Incredibly ambitious for a jam, and I have to say you've pulled off quite a lot! Having two separate game modes is impressive, and the ship customization and market are great for progression. The graphics are also pretty charming, and I liked the ambient sound. I do think some tweaks to the combat would be appreciated, as others said some kind of healthbar would be nice. A more interactive mining experience, like some kind of minigame, would also be a cool way to expand the flying portion. All in all, you got a lot done and it was a fun experience!

Also, I ran into a bug that softlocked me: after successfully raiding a ship, I was put back into space inside of the debris and wasn't able to go anywhere.

Alien Cropping by CodeForJoyCaro 2023-01-09T21:14:17Z

What a highly alien-feeling world! I definitely felt like I was on another planet, things looked great. The camera perspective was a bit weird, it felt too close to the character to be comfortable, but I did like how the camera shifted a bit with your movement to sort of "look ahead". I also like the "plants vs. zombies" vibe, I think there's a lot of room for expanding on the plants! Very nice submission.

Guardian of Corn by shreypatil45 2023-01-09T14:44:42Z

Neat concept! I like having a side objective to just "slay the monsters", though I'm sure with more time you could have broadened the scope of the farming. I will say from a design perspective, it might have been a good idea to reward the player with money for kills, or potentially have the creatures drop seeds; I didn't realize I had to buy new seeds and ended up spending all of my money on upgrading my sword, then I was basically locked out of the game.

Chess The Second by aslan 2023-01-09T05:59:37Z

Very very interesting idea! I love when people mash up two things that don't seem like they'd mesh well, and this certainly was chaotic! I don't have too much unique feedback to give, I agree that enemy pieces being a different color would be helpful, and I could have used a bit more explaining for some of the mechanics. I also ran into a weird issue on my second playthrough where the dark overlay got stuck, and it seemed like I couldn't select one of the squares to move to even with no opposing pieces on the board.

All that said, there might be more to this concept if you're wanting to flesh it out further!

Moon 2023 by Ladymarengo 2023-01-09T18:03:10Z

Interesting take! The theme worked well and I liked the concept of a very time-restricted building game. I did run into some issues with the collisions though, one time a harvester pinned me against the base while "Waiting..." and I couldn't move anymore, another time it pushed me off the map and my rover disappeared. Otherwise it was a fun little concept!

Protect the Garden by Buni 2023-01-10T01:06:34Z

I love the twist of having to uproot your defenses at strategic times to progress! The game was definitely challenging, but still fun. One thing that tripped me up right away was that towers cost money - for some reason, it seemed like the numbers were how many I had to use, so I was confused when I could only plant one. Other than that, I didn't really run into issues, well done!

Wickerman by Ivorius 2023-01-09T05:46:26Z

Great attention to detail! Although I wish moving around was a bit quicker. I think this was a novel idea and you executed it well, plus it was a very good interpretation of the theme. I think it was lacking a bit of variety, maybe if you had to grab a different tool for each different crop or something? Overall, a very good showing for a jam!

Kilzpacho by FullHeartGames 2023-01-09T21:20:12Z

Fun wave survival game! The theme was nice and the graphics were well stylized, loved the evil plants. I did have some trouble playing, it didn't seem to like one of the gamepads I had plugged in or something because the pitchfork kept forcing itself to the bottom-left, but otherwise it was smooth! The one sort of low-hanging addition that might be nice is adding some sort of death animation or sprite, things just disappearing wasn't quite as satisfying as I'd hoped.

Soul Guide by LottaUnicorns 2023-01-09T22:39:33Z

Very cute! I won't echo what other people have already said, but I will mention the pathfinding got a bit wonky for me, at one point I couldn't really move out of the bottom corner. I like the idea though!

Boar'd'Hell by Blublu 2023-01-09T05:13:28Z

Hah, funny to see someone else make a game with two controlled "characters"! This was pretty fun, it wasn't as difficult as I thought to watch both sides of the screen, and the graphics were really well made! I didn't fully understand the point of the horn breaking, since it felt pretty easy to fix it with an immediate tap.

The Harvester by Bas van den Berg 2023-01-09T23:29:24Z

Great showing, especially for a first time game! I think the others touched on what I wanted to say, but I do think it was pretty tough when the angels just stuck to you - there wasn't much room to do anything but hope you have enough invulnerability. And some sort of indicator that things were taking damage would help, I wasn't sure if my attacks were doing anything until things disappeared. I like the concept though, and it played really smoothly!

Farmtown Mowdown by Stevie257 2023-01-09T06:21:23Z

This is amazing. The details (camera movement, voice lines, music changing, combine noises) are so good, and of course the first thing I tried to do was get run over by the combine - did not disappoint there! Some notes: running back to the shop was kind of annoying and felt like a chore, maybe being teleported there or something would have been nice? Also, the difficulty rampup on wave 3 was pretty nuts, I did not feel ready and the new gun I bought (Colton) was underwhelming. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, I was hoping it would be easier to trick the zombies into getting mowed down by the combine!

Overall, this is an impressive showing and was fun to play! I wouldn't be surprised if you found some ways to expand on it and do a larger release.

Nice adaptation! I liked the little easter egg of being able to "like" the video :D

Backyard Fruitball by twchapman 2023-01-09T04:22:13Z

Heck, I completely forgot to credit https://kenney.nl/ for the great font, it's the one part I didn't end up making!

Backyard Fruitball by twchapman 2023-01-09T14:30:20Z

@rockford @shreypatil45 Thank you both for the kind words! I should have made this more clear, but the intent was actually for this to be a single player game where you need to manage multiple characters (but could of course be played duo if you'd prefer). I think if I were to expand it a bit, one way would be putting more thought into making it a more deliberate single-player experience.

Backyard Fruitball by twchapman 2023-01-09T17:09:12Z

@geraldfingburke Ahh I was worried about that, part of my initial plan was to have a short tutorial that gets you going but naturally the scope got cut down a lot. I'm glad you enjoyed it once you figured it out though!

Backyard Fruitball by twchapman 2023-01-09T22:49:46Z

@luhuchiha Thank you! I definitely wanted it to be challenging to be "good" at, but still be reasonable for a beginner.

Backyard Fruitball by twchapman 2023-01-10T00:58:16Z

@takhomasac Thank you, glad you liked it!

Backyard Fruitball by twchapman 2023-01-10T18:35:20Z

@monoh-behavior Thank you!

Backyard Fruitball by twchapman 2023-01-11T03:50:11Z

@sn4pi Thank you! I think that's where I'd prioritize more time, making it feel a bit better to play.

@chompdev Glad you noticed! I was hoping to make it a bit more controllable actually, with like different hitboxes on the bat to send in different arcs, but didn't quite get there. Thanks for the feedback!

Backyard Fruitball by twchapman 2023-04-24T13:54:30Z

@miolosh @popman-yes @roroto-sic @jj-cruikshanks @gabrimer @pkenney @floke Thank you all for the feedback! I stopped checking the page and didn't realize people would still be coming by 😅

If I had spent more time on the game, I did want to make the bat impact a bit more dynamic - right now it just cares about which half of the bat you hit with, to send the apple up or down. I also would have liked to have more fruit with different properties, and a bit more polish with things like the boundary not being walled off.

My original intent with the "hitter" not having air control was to simplify things so you didn't have to focus on too much, but it seems like enough people are missing that function that there would maybe be a better way to handle that.

Finally, I'm glad the game was also fun with a player two! It definitely wasn't designed around that, and it takes some of the challenge away, but it also adds player coordination which is always fun. Thanks again for the great comments everyone! I'll look to do another entry soon.
