I like the concept, and the aiming system was really nice.

I was met with a black screen after my third dock. I never died, so I'm not sure how close I was to dying since I didn't see any heads up display gui.

procrasteroid 2023-01-09 22:43

Absolutely fantastic, I loved the theme of drifting through space and docking to get materials. I was blown away when I realised there was an entirely separate game in the ship boarding feature. My only challenge was that I didn't know what to do when on a boarded ship, I just kept running until I eventually died. But either way the graphics, sounds, and gameplay are awesome for 3 days.

Nice one!

undev-games 2023-01-09 22:44

Really liked the dock mechanics. The NPCs that join you in raids as well.

Great game

bubblemapgaming 2023-01-09 22:44

Spaceship controls are nice and floaty and I like the mashup of different gameplay loops (mining, platforming, research another in ship stuff). Also great backing music and sound

moddingmachine 2023-01-09 22:49

@procrasteroid The objective of a raid is to reach the bottom of the ship, where there is a core you can steal. Thank you for your feedback!

buickmle 2023-01-09 22:49

I think something could be added to make the player movement feel nicer, and animations and better graphics to the crew members will go a long way. Nice!

tinykidtoo 2023-01-09 22:50

Cool space game, I love flying, latching onto a ship and descending with an squad. Its a fun gameplay loop. I did have some difficulties with the controls, I kept sliding into spikes. I do hope you can continue the project, it could be really cool with a goal. Maybe building a space corporation!

togo-sepultraut 2023-01-09 22:50

it was a nice surprise that boarding ships was it's own play mode. didn't get too far sadly as the game froze when i tried boarding a large ship

amarokczukay 2023-01-09 22:57

this game was really nice to play. I loved the fact that it's a mix between several genres/controls. The background with colored stars (and how they move when in raid view) was very nice too.

The raid controls didn't feel really responsive, or "ergonomic" but that's ok. Also maybe the raid view lacks a health bar, to know how many bullets we can still take?

I've encountered two bugs: i bonked into something (an invisible object?) and at one point i got to an enormous ship but the game froze and an error message was displayed on my browser (unfortunately i forgot what this error was).

This was the first game suggested to me in the smart section. and it was a smart choice hehe!

robotchimp 2023-01-09 22:59

Really cool to be able to fit in so much different types of gameplay, the whole concept of collecting and unlocking new rooms for the ship is pretty cool and I could see it being expanded upon a lot, there's some small issues I have, like the movement during raids feeling very odd and hard to control, otherwise, really nice!

moddingmachine 2023-01-09 22:59

Thank You for the feedback everyone, to anyone commenting, or looking through the comments, I recently pushed an update fixing this game breaking bug, (I believe it was a divide by zero error), if anyone else enounter's it please let me know! (As of 3:10 1/9/2023)

phillip-scott 2023-01-09 23:02

No idea what is going on - but I think I am having fun  went to board a spiderish looking thing and game crashed

Incredibly ambitious for a jam, and I have to say you've pulled off quite a lot! Having two separate game modes is impressive, and the ship customization and market are great for progression. The graphics are also pretty charming, and I liked the ambient sound. I do think some tweaks to the combat would be appreciated, as others said some kind of healthbar would be nice. A more interactive mining experience, like some kind of minigame, would also be a cool way to expand the flying portion. All in all, you got a lot done and it was a fun experience!

Also, I ran into a bug that softlocked me: after successfully raiding a ship, I was put back into space inside of the debris and wasn't able to go anywhere.

jujus 2023-01-09 23:51

Really nice to play :)

keip 2023-01-10 00:35

wow. amazing job. unfortunately the game crashed when i wanted to board into a really big ship. too bad but was fun until then. good idea

miraculousmelon 2023-01-10 05:25

Cool game! This amount of content is very impressive. I did find the platforming gameplay a little unsatisfying to control, but other than that a brilliant achievement.

copito 2023-01-10 22:12

wow that was a lot of stuff in this one and i'm not quite sure how i feel about it! I felt maybe the loss of all crew members was a bit of a harsh punishment for loosing a raid, it might have been nice to have say a 50% chance of death of a crew member and the others are incapacitated for some period similar to xcom. Over all though a super cool and memorable entry

deathbysnail 2023-01-10 22:14

Very ambitious for a jam! Love the art in the rooms. And freeroaming in space mining asteroids is really cool, especially the grappling and shattering of asteroids. The spaceship handles worse than the corsa I learned to drive in.

zungryware 2023-01-11 00:34

The raids are a nice change of pace, but they feel really clunky. It's mainly the controls. If you stop pressing any keys, your character stops moving instantly, but if you switch from moving left to moving right, your character *very* slowly accelerates in the other direction. The low air acceleration means I try to avoid jumping. You can't see your health, so I don't know how many hits I can afford to take. There are tons of blind jumps into enemies that shoot and hit you before you even touch the ground. I mostly took to shooting forward while walking and backing up if I heard a hit sound. The procedural (I assume) levels are very repetitive. They just seem to keep going until my character careens into a spike that I tried to avoid or I randomly stumble in the glowing orb.

At a certain point in the game, I lost the ability to destroy security cameras and I'm not sure why.

I never got to the point where I got to really interact with the ship upgrades. I unlocked one new room after my first raid, but the additional cores from the other three raids didn't seem to unlock anything except resources I didn't know how to use. After four identical-feeling levels, I didn't really want to play anymore.

Good attempt, but I think you bit off more than you could chew with three distinct games in a weekend. It means none of the three feel particularly polished. I'm impressed you got as much as you did, but I think it would have turned out better if you had focused on just one of them.

nvrskipgameday 2023-01-11 07:20

This is such a cool idea! It was neat actually going into spaceships to raid, I didn't expect that. Docking and mining is snappy, too. There's really a lot to this, nicely done :)

shreemp 2023-01-11 14:21

I love it! Always wanted to make like a little base-buildey/npc-follows game and you guys did such a good job. i wish you could see your health better in the raids tho because usually it's just hope you haven't taken too much damage lmao. regardless, love the rooms in your own ship and i like the different phases of games there is. It feels cohesive overall and it was fun to play!

moddingmachine 2023-01-11 16:34

@zungryware Thank you very much for your feedback, I absolutely agree. I realized that we bit off quite a bit more than we could chew. We decided to follow through, however, because we intend to turn this into a full game. (Just to add a little background). The levels aren't procedural, I haven't explored that domain nearly enough to feel comfortable working on any of that in the time that we had. But that is something I very much intend to work on soon. Thank you once more for your feedback, I appreciate the constructive criticism you have given and I will take it into account in developing the complete game.

itzemii 2023-01-11 22:55

That's a lot in one game. Really a lot. Impressive you did this in a game jam! Even it does feel unsurprisingly incomplete. Controls of the ship in space are ok. To me they felt a bit stiff. But that might just be because I normally use controller and the WASD mapping you used felt unnatural to me. I got lost in the ship. I mean I had no idea what to do. Harvest = asteroid mining: ok. Sound in ship fits well. ... Is that a diesel engine in a space ship?⛽️ Graphics is nice. I wish you two success with bringing the game to a completion.

chompdev 2023-01-12 04:29

Whoa, this is a very cool jam entry! I love the zero gravity controls, and the player BONKing off the side of a ship or asteroid literally made me laugh out loud when I first saw it - that's such a great sound effect for it :) Having the gameplay alternate between mining, unlocking rooms of your ship, and raiding enemy vessels was really cool and well done. It's really fun to disable enemy cameras and prevent the local crew from responding. Also cool to be able to see the passing stars as you walk around the enemy ship. This is just a really impressive scope for just a weekend jam, and you did very well. Nice job!

shay-kopf 2023-01-13 13:04

Very nice game! loved the concept would've definitely played a full game of this. I really like the space movement and exploration. Good job!

zacharypinkham 2023-01-23 19:48

Really fun stuff! I appreciated the contrast in the space floating scenes and the more straightforward shooter segements. I occasionally encountered some glitchiness in the controls, mostly weird erratic shaking, but nothing that caused me to lose so it wasn't a big deal. Great work on the music too, nice entry!

zimny11 2023-01-26 22:59

Awesome game! I love the unique art style. The combat fell a bit unfair on higher difficulty ships, since you cannot see when you are jumping down. But since you can repeat ships it is not that bad. Besides that, the whole concept and the game itself is really well done!
