LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Doomsday Bunker by ZYXer 2014-05-13T16:57:00

Played for about an hour as well, then I realized that there was no lose condition, so I just made all the bunks I could and watched as hundreds poured in and suffocated...I can only assume my character "hunted" this way, as he seemed totally unaffected.
All that aside, well done. I too would have appreciated more flexibility with my base, building sideways and re-purposing rooms being the biggest priority. Also the lack of capacitor or other power electricity saving option was a bit sad.

Dig Hard by petey123567 2014-05-14T15:03:00

Wonderfully done. My only complaint was that I had a lot of deaths that felt unfair, but the short session duration and overall silliness made it hard to feel frustrated.

Helevenium by alvivar 2014-05-11T01:53:00

Fun and challenging, the comparisons to Dark Souls kinds of difficulty are apt, but it doesn't seem to have much to do with the theme.

Tsunami Cruiser by bvanschooten 2014-05-13T15:38:00

Very jiggly, very fun. Not as hard as I had anticipated, but that's not a bad thing.

Wormhunter by Thorig 2014-05-14T02:12:00

Short and sweet for sure. Wonderful pixels. The worm was far too easy though.

Dark Depths by jwin 2014-05-12T07:09:00

Very nice! I really like the look and feel, and the maze of loot was fun to navigate.
The biggest problem I saw was that the money was kinda worthless, and the win condition was way too easy. I was expecting the ship to be an upgrade/repair station, and I feel like that would be much better.
Of course that's not terribly viable during the jam, but if you wish to continue, that's where I would take it.

Sepsis by berareu 2014-04-29T02:45:00

The art was excellent, but the gameplay felt a bit repetitive.

Drip by savethejets1 2014-04-29T02:23:00

This was cool! I like the idea of it, going underground to find water to bring life back to the surface. Tracking down what I needed was interesting as well, as far as I got at least. Well done!

Fight The Infection by Thepattybeast 2014-05-19T20:02:00

Damage upgrades were kinda useless after about level 4, because I was one-shotting enemies already, which was a little sad.
I really enjoyed the steep ramp up though, it was a wonderful moment, even if it was probably some variety of glitch. I also liked the "health" system of the game, with an invulnerable player avatar and helpless "civilians" to protect. I started off making sacrifices for the greater good, then focused all my efforts on the last survivor.
All in all quite fun, and honestly much more so than I anticipated.

Strawberry in the Underworld by Manky 2014-05-13T15:59:00

I enjoyed it. The controls were definitely frustratingly floaty, but I really liked the two different worlds. having them merely touch instead of being almost exactly the same doubled the explorable world, which I liked.

Ninja VS Worms by ninjacharlie 2014-05-13T16:09:00

The game over message was perfect, thank you for that.
The worms rotation was a bit weird. I think that having them face in the direction they are going, and having some dirt particles fly up when they reenter the ground would go a long way.
It was fun though, keep it up!

Arounder by almosoka 2014-05-12T07:16:00

Definite Five star innovation here, the perimeter scoring system is totally out there and get's me thinking in weird ways. It was pretty incomprehensible at first, but it was so simple that I was able to piece things together pretty easily, so I think that's fine. Perhaps some effort could be made to make the red and green dots into more immediately understandable icons, such as cracks and bricks perhaps, but it wasn't a huge issue.
Also I see no connection to the theme...but whatever, it was a fun and inventive game so I personally don't care.
Great Job!

Core Collector by mystakin 2014-05-12T06:39:00

Great job!
My only real criticism is that I think the controls for the ship should have been a little juicier, moving it was pretty sterile. And perhaps allowing steering the ship via the mouse, to avoid the awkwardness of sometimes having to hit left to go right? Just a thought, probably not a good one. It's a someone intractable issue.

"It's all Ogre now" by nozzergaming 2014-05-14T01:59:00

I was just going through the source code trying to figure out what I'm supposed to do in this game, when I saw that the enemy starts at a height of 420. This humor runs deep.

Something Beneath the Surface (Sea's will) by Striwx 2014-05-12T06:52:00

The graphics were wonderful, but the game was only slightly playable. Try to focus more on gameplay and player goals in the future, you have the graphical sides covered without question.

Beneath the Surface by Snoother 2014-05-11T02:09:00

Felt a bit ham-fisted, I think you could have been more effective if you had reined in the blatant masturbatory nature of the violence a little. Perhaps bring it...Beneath the surface? *Dons sunglasses*
Still excellent though, really well done.

Rojan by Junber 2014-05-13T17:19:00

My first left click did not at all meet my expectation of swinging my sword, which I found hilarious. Finding myself suddenly disarmed was a great entry. The whole thing was pretty entertainingly random, though perhaps you should have made it more obvious that the "Your ad here" screen was meant as a joke. I think the graphics are the biggest issue, I had no idea what the wall were at first, and I'm still not sure which is which.
I also feel obligated to mention that I didn't see a connection to the theme...perhaps that was why there was a Microsoft surface level?

And the Moment Is Gone by Mike Mezhenin 2014-05-19T19:43:00

This game was physically painful. Beautifully done.

Train Wreck by shesaidgraves 2014-05-19T05:28:00

The controls felt awkward at first, but once I got to know them they provided a novel way of moving. I think that the biggest thing to work on with this would be non-random levels, because I found that the difficulty of a particular run varied from effortless to impossible.
I had fun though, keep it up!

Beneath The Surface by tastyoishi 2014-05-19T05:33:00

All I got was a blue screen after I hit start. 8(

Fake Zoo by v3games 2014-05-19T05:43:00

I spun the dolphin until children cried. It was the only way I knew to make money. Now the crowds have vanished, and I am alone with my fake animals.

Deep Shit by BenCousins 2014-05-11T02:16:00

Not bad for 4 hours! I agree with George though, there was a bit too much maze. If you wanted to develop it further, I'd recommend a smaller maze with more hazards, and smoothing out the controls a little bit. I often got hung up on the last pixel of corners that I'd thought I had already rounded.

Agents & Assassins by bigstompyrobots 2014-05-12T07:25:00

Made me surprisingly paranoid. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Sadly it did freeze up at one point, and I'm not really sure why. Still a game well made though!

Miner by tuxxilla 2014-05-13T15:52:00

The constraints on the miner made this much more of a challenge than I thought it would be. I actually dug down and collected all the diamonds right away, and only then realized the implications of my jump height.
The princess was obvious, but in a funny way. Well done and welcome to the party.

LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

The Path of Least Resentment by Martin Vilcans 2015-04-26T21:20:00

The voices were great. I wish there was a little more depth to it, but it's a game jam so that's fine. Maybe a post-jam version?

Crowd Control by CriticalMammal 2015-04-26T21:12:00

I liked it a lot. It took me a bit to figure out, but that's to be expected with a properly weird idea like this. Keep fleshing this out if you can!

Unconventional George by Jan Peter (jpdev) 2015-04-20T05:19:00

I enjoyed it. The art was sufficiently cutesy for the subject matter, and since monkeys throwing poo is kind of a myth, I think it still counts as unconventional...right? Sure it does!

Stop Stelio Kontos by Naphier 2015-04-20T05:32:00

Clicking one component, then clicking another component before reaching the first confuses the game, and the opening cutscene is a little long to have to rewatch every time, but I still really liked it. Combining different items was interesting.

Ted's Quest by notrorschach 2015-04-20T04:52:00

This was fun! The controls were a little finicky, but it was generally pretty great! I liked the "setting" a lot.

Freakish Revolution by vini60 2015-04-20T04:12:00

I liked the special gun a lot. Nothing like turning your foes into random objects. Honestly I think that it would have been better without the more normal weapons though. No sense diluting the greatness.

Death Vs. Love by Bonecrusher 2015-04-20T02:26:00

This was a fun little thing. I liked trying to line up enemies to use the scythe, though I was kinda frustrated with my inability to deal with the larger groups of enemies. Overall fun though!

Quality Television by crazya 2015-04-20T04:30:00

This looks really cool, but I can't get it to work. I'm on Windows 7, and I tried running both versions, just to be sure. I found this in a file marked stderr:
WARNING: Failed to locate critical resource 'assets/default.chr'.
WARNING: Failed to locate critical resource 'assets/edit.chr'.

So long, Space Hero. by factorial 2015-04-20T05:38:00

This is really cool. It's super simple, but it's really fun. I had no idea what I was supposed to do at first, but that was fine, because knocking blocks around was kinda fun. I was able to piece it together bit by bit, and that was fun too.
All in all, this is a tiny game, but it is a great game, and you should be proud.

NO TIME TO EXPLAIN: GET IN THE LLAMA by Nidar 2015-04-20T04:58:00

Exactly what I had hoped to get out of this theme. Thank you.

Zoo Racing by refreshgames 2015-04-20T05:13:00

I agree with Dickie on a lot of points, but I still really enjoyed it. I'm mainly just impressed that you got together a 3D cart racer in so little time. The AI could use to tuning down though, and I agree that some form of end-of-race stats is a biggie. Doesn't have to be numbers though. Maybe the AI racers just all wait at the finish line to mock you or something? Then you have a nice visual of how you did.
I really like the look and feel of it, well done!

Nuke Whaling by Homletmoo 2015-04-20T05:03:00

Excellent concept! The controls were a bit too floaty for me, I had a lot of trouble staying in the air for more than 10-15 seconds. Still great fun though, and the hook was perfect!

LD33 — You are the Monster

Something deep by General 2015-08-24T04:35:00

I really like it! The tentacle mechanic was weird and fun. I haven't done that before, which is always a plus.
Two complaints though: As Donald said, being able to release tentacles early would have been nice, and also I'd like to be able to play with all my limbs, the game cutting off and telling me I won was actually a bit frustrating.
Great job though!

Cyclopean Clicker by deathray 2015-08-24T03:36:00

I was really hoping to see new limbs growing as I upgraded my stuff, but it still feels like a solid start. Good use of the theme!

AGORA by Pol 2015-08-24T04:24:00

Very cool, though I'm honestly not sure what happened there. The whole thing was very well made, especially for 5 hours.

OGREAT by Mr. Jif 2015-08-24T03:45:00

That shader thing was pretty cool, I may actually look at your source code to see how you did that.
It was fun overall as well, though the gameplay felt a bit like mowing the lawn at points, there were just so many villagers, and they were so ineffective once I got a method down.

Terrorist Simulator 2015 by xX12Twisty12Xx 2015-08-23T21:59:00

I hate to be "that guy" and all, but since you used outside assets, like the title screen background and children cheering and such, this should be in the Jam, not the compo. Hopefully you don't have to resubmit to move it over.
That said, I think you did the theme very well. The aforementioned cheers were wonderfully jarring, and tying a scoring system into it made it appropriately inappropriate.
Like Piotrek said, the movement was a bit weird, but the game didn't require super precise actions, so that was fine. I wish the money dropping was a bit more effective as well, I couldn't really get anything to happen with it.

The Wrath of Gandhi by greysphere 2015-08-24T06:01:00

The first time I "negotiated" with another civilization I actually spit out my drink. You've done the world a great service. The volume might have been excessive in other situations but it was perfect here.
If I was to complain about about anything I would say that the game seemed to take longer than it needed to. I'd say either shrink the map or add a bit more variety to the building sections.

Bloup! by Noisette 2015-08-23T22:06:00

I didn't really feel the theme in it, but I still enjoyed it. A bit of transformice, but simplified and much nicer looking.
Getting an online game like this working in time for the compo is pretty impressive.

All That Glitters by cgmorton 2015-08-23T22:21:00

Voice acting was perfect.

I also got stuck on some things, I think that it's when I fatfinger two keys are once and go into a wall diagonally, I then get kicked out of it, but can't move. Really excellent entry though.

Candy Monster by Berserker_Chris 2015-08-23T22:22:00

Very cute, I had fun. The stealth was well done, though I found the difficulty ramp a bit steeper than I expected. I had trouble getting past level 2.

Harold - The Overly Destructive Flying Monster by Ethan Allwood 2015-08-24T05:18:00

The installer was a bit annoying, you can export gamemaker games to a single .exe if you poke through the options a little.
That said, it was a fun little game. The art was really tight. The screen dimensions were a little weird, but they made the game work so I don't mind at all.

Nom Nomster by Waynetron 2015-08-24T04:08:00

Cute and friendly, very accessible, and a creative use of the theme. Well done!
On a less positive note, it made me resent dogs. I didn't know that that was possible.

LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

Demon Hunter by Bonecrusher 2015-12-22T00:41:00

Great job! I like each shot had screenshake and glow. Those details go a long way.

That said, the screenshake may have been a bit intense for someone like me who holds down m1 as soon as he realizes that he has unlimited ammo.
