Wow, what a great and polished game! πŸ‘ I love the concept of mixing cards and puzzles. There are so many good things about this game: Top-notch animations and sound effects. Wonderful environment and great graphics overall. I think, with more things to do an more game mechanics this would be a game I could play over and over again. 😁

Here are some suggestions for improvements, just because I like this game so much and I would love to play more of it. πŸ’–

- Give the player some way to regain health. I had to invest a lot of time to finish the game and it feels bad to lose all of it just because of minor errors without any possibility to regain health.

- Different weapons, level layouts and level props would be awesome. I also missed impact sounds and screen shakes.

- On one play-through I maxxed out all card spots and constantly picked up more cards. I always took the higher card value and picked up each puzzle piece, with no king in sight and no more shuffles, because I got so many cards. I had to restart the game after 20 minutes, because I could not progress, which was kind of a bummer. That's what it looked like (i actually had a lot more cards):

fullcards.jpg

- I think the player should somehow be able to influence the progression or have a way to discard cards. Hard to say how, but right now, it just feels too random.

But hey, other than that, I really had a great time! GJ!

@zubspace hey there! thank you so much for the feedback, i really appreciate it <3 you actually got me realize I left the +1 HP card mechanic disabled!

because i still have time until the jam ends, i updated it and added more things from your suggestions!

-Joker will now appear at a specific amount of cards on deck so it will not be missable. -Health cards -Screen shakes, impact sounds and even more polish all-around.

thanks for the catch! and i'd love to hear your Thoughts on the newer version. cheers!

zubspace 2025-10-06 19:31

@placeholders Played it through again, feels so much better already! I love where this is going and will keep a tab of your game open πŸ‘πŸ˜

Only thing I saw were some z-fighting issues with overlapping sprites, but that's just a minor thing.

Keep up the good work! Cheers!

kremlebot 2025-10-06 20:12

It's a very polished game, but I didn't understand how to fight the enemies.

gat 2025-10-06 20:19

Just finished the game, it's really polished and visually appealing. I think it's a very interesting concept of having the card collecting mechanic tied to the dungeon. When playing I never really felt any incentive to pick the red cards over the yellow cards, in which case the game devolves into walking through empty rooms until you win. Maybe I just got lucky with the generation and was able to get a lot of puzzle cards, but I really like the concept of the more cards you collect being a negative. I think its definitely a concept worth elaborating on

placeholders 2025-10-06 20:19

@kremlebot WASD to move, and Arrows key to shoot, it’s written also in the menu

madr 2025-10-06 20:25

Very good and polished game. Feedback and effects are on point. The best one I have played so far!

pincushion 2025-10-06 20:27

I agree with Gal that there wasn't a reason to pick the red cards. Sometimes, the choice is a safe card like 1 yellow and a profitable card like 9 red. In that case, it's possible the game could be won faster, but it's still not profitable enough to go through the trouble of fighting a room of enemies.

I love this idea that the player is collecting more dungeon rooms to play. It's an interesting idea that has infinite possibilities.

As others have said, it plays well, looks great and is nicely polished in general. Great entry.

042a 2025-10-06 20:27

veeery polished and pleasing to play! nice game loop - easy but fun. could be built upon in many ways.

kremlebot 2025-10-06 20:30

@placeholders Aaaah, just like in Isaac. Nice roguelike.

kazuren 2025-10-06 20:31

Really satisfying sound effects.

I noticed when hugging the top wall that you cant shoot downwards and that the bullets collide with the wall there.

Would like it if there was a way to choose a card without having to use the mouse (by highlighting which one you want maybe?) since the game doesn't use the mouse for anything else, it's a bit annoying to have to get my hands off the keyboard to choose a card.

Overall loved the vibe of the game and the card mechanic with the puzzle pieces.

Fun game, very quick to get into and intuitive. I agree have a keyboard selection for choosing cards would be nice.

Animations and art are slick

mrbamboo 2025-10-07 05:02

So nice game art! Simple but well executed! Love the deck building.

threeli 2025-10-07 05:17

Wait you did all this work by yourself?! Brilliant job, I was pretty hooked through until I won. I could see this post jam (with a few tweaks and a bunch more stuff to see and find) cleaning up on steam. Amazing work, love the sfx and sprite work. Really excellent job, hope you'll keep working on it.

bwalter 2025-10-07 22:08

I love a lot about this game! Im not sure its an issue with my keyboard but certain arrow/movements wouldn't let me walk anymore. I have a 60% keyboard so I'm sure its a conflict on my end. Either way, stellar work!

mj12 2025-10-08 16:04

I dig the style, one of the best out there!

khamekaze 2025-10-08 16:09

Really like how polished the elements of the game are, all the little wiggles and movements of the cards are super satisfying. Would love to see some more content and card variety (with effects or bonuses etc.) in the future!

wakobu 2025-10-08 16:16

Very neat art! The gameplay is simple but efficient. It lacks just a little balancing in the cards effects. For exemple, there is no advantage taking a red card in your deck

johncast123 2025-10-08 16:36

Super cool and polished game man! I think there's so much you can expand on here, in terms of variety of enemies and making collecting the red cards have some incentive (risk vs reward factor). Super cool to have a game where you are building it as you go. Good job.

graebor 2025-10-08 16:39

This was awesome, the style is really cohesive and well done. The only nitpick I could think of is that it felt weird to use the mouse to select cards since I usually had both hands on the keyboard. Overall though this was one of my favs so far!

ave2brave 2025-10-08 16:52

so far the best i've played!! obsesse with the music and the sfx (it's giving me balatro vibe) and the art style.the control also feels smooth. one thing is that, i've been playing for like 20 minutes but the King wouldn't show up so i had to restart a round.

custodi 2025-10-08 18:36

Great game! Good visual style and gameplay loop. It's a bit slow, i got a little tired of collecting pieces for a new card.

blue-pin-studio 2025-10-09 06:01

A welcome reprieve from some of the harder LD submissions. Nice and easy and breezy. I didn't realize what was happening with the cards until maybe 6-7 cards in, but i like the gimmick! Cool submission with solid art, audio and gameplay!

shaggy 2025-10-09 19:30

Really enjoyed playing this, thank you!

orangeoceans 2025-10-09 19:58

Interesting concept and great aesthetics! I think a fun way to build on the concept would be to vary the environments more, add some more enemy types, and add some other abilities for the player character, as combat felt kinda rote after a few rooms.

aviv-levy 2025-10-09 20:00

This is such a cool concept! Could definitely be expanded. It was a bit hard to regain health though, and I did find myself wanting a new attack type!

nomus 2025-10-09 21:08

Really nice, loved the whole system, I think introducing jacks kings and queen would be interesting to think about too

naru 2025-10-09 21:19

Really cool concept here!

daniboygg 2025-10-10 15:52

Congratulations on such an amazing and polished game! I could be shooting all day, hearing those bubble noises. You achieved a good gameplay feeling with music, effects and feedback.

I have some suggestions: * At first, I thought the V was the letter V instead of an arrow  * It's strange to shoot and move with awsd and arrows and then use the mouse to select cards, using the keyboard for everything would be more comfortable * I would make bigger the feedback when you hurt an enemy. When they hurt you, you feel it with the screen shake but when you hurt them no so much * Quoting "Level Up!: The Guide to Great Video Game Design" by Scott Rogers "walking is never, ever gameplay". When you need to gather pieces, I would at least make them move or make some kind of interaction.

lespaul59 2025-10-11 17:40

Very cool and polished game. Love the overall vibe and the chill but energizing tune. Graphics are clean and very nice. Good job! :)

umc049 2025-10-12 07:59

A game that is nearly flawless in every aspect! The excellent controls and strategic choices make it very comfortable to play without feeling bored, and the difficulty is not too high to make me feel helpless. The art style is delicate and well-crafted, with a hint of cuteness, and the music is just as good.

The few other things I can say are that I hope to play a full game further developed based on this gamejam project.

Aside from that, I encountered an issue while playing the game: when I stand at the top of the map and shoot, no matter which direction I shoot, the bullets are blocked by an invisible wall.

nekobones 2025-10-12 08:04

The loop is super fluent and addictive and I love the overall art style. A really nice jam game! Good job!

slay-a-stone 2025-10-12 08:15

Creative take on the collector theme! Building the deck and it having an effect on your next rounds is cool. It was a bit too easy, I could just spam the attack on the enemies.

littlegamer 2025-10-12 08:19

Although I found the game quickly repetitive (partly because I don't like games similar to Isaac, tbh), it is a very nice entry. Arts and especially sounds are great. My critics : - the very begining of the game is slow. I actually thought about quitting before getting my first card ; plus when taking the first one, I took an ace of spade, and wondered what it did. It lacked a bit of feedback on this card and I couldn't understand why it said it would go to my deck, but didn't appeared later in it. - the rooms lack variety. Enemies become way too repetitive quickly. Randomizing the enemies appearing and / or their placement would have been nice (tho I know this is the kind of feature that get scrapped because of time limits).

Still a very nice entry, I insist that I LOVED the audio.

poboy 2025-10-12 08:36

Very polished entry and everything feels quite nice :)

Would like to see more enemy types, but hey, 72 hours is not much.

I'm not sure I understand the card picks -- I just never picked the red cards and had a good time of it.

Same as another commenter, I have a 60% keyboard that doesn't let me use WASD and arrow keys at the same time, though that's my own idiocy for getting a keyboard like this. I made do with some jank Fn key stuff

yibirabbit007 2025-10-12 09:04

When I was in the corner, all the cards were blocked by the walls, and unfortunately, I only managed to get a few cards. At first, I didn't know how to shoot the cards quickly, so I ended up circling around with the enemies. Honestly, the feeling of having both hands on the keyboard is a bit strange. It might be more suitable if it used the mouse to attack like an FPS game.

jscommander 2025-10-12 16:29

Hi, you game looks very polished. When I played first time I didn't get how to shoot:) Very good sound and animations!

yarli 2025-10-12 17:00

The game feels very cool. The art, sounds and mechanics are well done. But I was a little bored. I wish there was more choice and variety in the game, or that it was just shorter. Anyway, great job, thanks!

nondev 2025-10-13 11:41

Had a lot of fun with this. I might be biased because I've had a similar idea floating around in my head for a long while. Very polished, everything looks great. As others have mentioned, more enemy variety would've been great. I feel maybe a random modifier being thrown on top of cards or some other sort of synergy would've gone a long way to reducing the feel of repetitiveness.

Really fun idea, hope you develop it out further!

torcado 2025-10-17 00:39

This is great! really well polished. i love the visual design, everything is so clean! The gameplay is simple but fun, some minor touchups like better feedback when landing a hit etc. would help a lot but don't really impact my experience that much. I would love if choosing cards had more of an impact, and wasn't just "pick the highest reward or lowest enemy card", perhaps make the enemy cards give higher rewards to give the player a more interesting risk/reward choice, or make the puzzle piece cards require some interaction aside from just walking (e.g. they despawn on a timer so you have to memorize that card's layout to pick up as much as possible. I really love the aesthetic theming, mixing playing cards and puzzle pieces never occurred to me but fits so well. The ending stages replacing the floor with an actual card looks really cool. Overall this is really well made, nice work!

makache 2025-10-18 08:15

I'm really impressed by how polished this game feels. All the small details really add up and make the experience stand out.

The card-crafting system is quite unique β€” first you collect puzzle pieces, then use them to build cards for your deck. I liked the strategic choice between going with safer puzzle cards or taking a risk with enemy cards for more resources.

One observation about the enemy behavior: they tend to move directly toward you and cluster together, which can make combat feel a bit predictable. Mixing up their movement patterns could add more challenge.

Overall, it's a creative concept that captures the theme well. Solid work!
