Cool idea and great execution. Very creative.
Some audio would be nice but it's also my first jam and I perfectly understand it's hard to implement everything what was planned.
Keep up the good work and see you on Ludum Dare 49

Love it! Great visuals and a fun boomerang mechanic with the hat.
I see youve opted in for the audio category, is the audio broken in the web build? Because I didnt hear anything.

Great work for your first jam! Really smooth and good looking. It felt like there was more to this world to explore, too :D It was over almost too soon though! I would've liked to be able to help the poor water-skeletons as well. Maybe by putting water into the cactus-holes, I dunno! Anyway, lovely stuff.

The hat as bucket and weapon is a very funny idea, nice. Also cool idea with the killed skeletons as light sources. I think you could have continued the game a bit more. I was surprised when it ended at 5 water portions.

Quite a charming little game and a neat execution of idea. The part with backtracking to the tree with water without any real treat from enemies side was quite boring (I did clean the path before). Maybe respawning them could help? Aslo, see you in the future :)

Making the player loose its only weapon on the way back is very clever. Making all interactions based on the hat made it very focused.

Nice retro vibe, and the aim of the game was very unique. Really solid entry and progression. Constructive feedback wise, I think having a mouse aim would be useful bc it's sometimes hard to aim directly at the skeletons with the hat

@jonrei Im glad you liked it. Unfortunately I didnt have enough time for music. I didint know you can opt out of categorys.

Pretty good game, especially for a first game jam! I like the skulls lighting up the path and I love the fact that the hat is used for everything. I actually got skeletons respawning in the dungeon cause I wanted to explore more with me water on me head and it gets quickly challenging without the weapon. Also very cute little growing tree :)
Nice little game, it would be nice if the skeleton enemies would take some time to trigger a collision attack instead of immediately hurting you on touch

Cool game, idea is nice and everything works but for my white sceletons sometimes are hard to see on white sand and in caves when I kill a lot of sceletons in one place is too bright. These are small details:)
Interesting use of the hat in two mechanincs! Really liked the whole concept of the game, nice one!
This game is pretty cool for a first game jam timer! I would say, if you add some bg music and sfx this would be great. Also maybe a little map, I got lost a few times unu Overall this was great, keep it up, jams are fun, I recommend to watch for the GMTK game jam <- one of the biggest on itch!

I really like the art but it looks a little fuzzy instead of looking blocky. The boomerang mechanic is pretty neat. I think the number one thing that would improve the experience is a bit of sound. Otherwise nice entry!

Graphics look good, I like the colors, very easy on the eyes. Gameplay is smooth as well. Others have aldready talked about audio so I will add no further to that!
Good job!
This is a cool idea. Nice graphics and the gameplay is enjoyable. :)

Nice game with cool graphics but in the location what probaply is maze i found a bug unknown.png Some objects should not be on top of the layout.
Fun little game! The only problem I found, was that the enemies I killed always respawn, so there isn't really any reason to fight them. Also, when I was leaving buildings, the skeletons that were chasing me were camping in front of the building and very quickly mauled me. Loved the color choice.
For your first jam game this is amazing!
I really like your take on the theme - there's a lot of games about going deeper and deeper underground, but yours is probably the most original version of that I've seen.
The combat was an interesting idea with that hat throw, but it did feel a bit flat. This is partly to do with the lack of sound, which is understandable - but some other effects might have elevated it even further.
Overall though, really well done! Keep it up!

This was a short sweet little experience!
It seems like it's been noted above, but killing skeletons in the undergound leaves a white orb, though I'm not sure if you intended this or not. I also had a few skeletons glitch into existence underground and appear stuck in a wall. I also think the controls feel a little off. I know controls are a very personal preference, but I felt the inertial force on the player was a little too strong - like I was sliding around rather than walking.
The only other minor complaint (aside from the lack of sound, which you've already spoken about) is that it's just too short. I love the idea, and I really hope you'll continue to develop into a big adventure. There's so many different ways you could take this idea.
Great stuff!
I liked it! It does feel a little bit clunky at times, but I really like the mechanic, and how the bucket has two uses. It's a shame there's no audio. I also liked how the cacti wave at you, lol. Gj!
Congrats on your first jam! The boomerang hat ability is a pretty clever mechanic. It would've felt a bit better with some screenshake or any other feedback like that whenever you killed an enemy. Found myself playing for quite a bit so overall good job!

Congrats it's a really cool little game, the mechanics of the hat with force to an unarmed back is really well thought

Really great effort for a first game jam, the use of the hat as both a bucket and a weapon make for some interesting gameplay, and it's a clever idea. For the controls I think it would work better for the character to face the direction you last moved in instead of always going back to facing down, so that if you are moving to the left and stop, you throw the hat left and not down. Additionally I don't think the hat's movement should be affected by the player's movement once it has been thrown, it feels a little strange.

The game is really cool ! I'm glad that someone is using GDevelop, it remembers me my first game I ever created with GDevelop :D.
PS: It would be nice if the character remember the last direction he was oriented, because when you stop walking to the left for example the caracter will automaticaly look to the bottom of the screen, that means that it is mandatory move while shoting at the skeletons.
Good job overall !!
Great job :) Awesome game, it really gets me excited to explore more with GDevelop

What a fantastic game. Really enjoyed playing it. One thing I would say is that it would help if the hat would fly off in the last direction the player had moved. It caught me off guard a few times where the hat would default to down. Other than that, this was a fab game. The pixel art was terrific, the characters was interesting, and there was purpose to what you were doing. Great LD entry

Great take on the theme! I really liked the world you built and would love to explore it more.
I found the combat quite hard, especially underground. I struggled to aim the hat. I felt like the hat defaults to down even if I was moving upwards.

Congrats on your first jam! Quite a feat to have a working game at the end of it!
I really liked the game and the hat-throwing, it felt really solid. Although sometimes the hat didn't got thrown the way I thought it would, you really hade to point in the correct direction. Maybe this was how it was intended though?
Well made graphics too bad audio didn't make the game, it would have added quite a bit to the feel.
Well done! :v:

I played the in-browser version, is there supposed to be audio? The whole time I was absolutely loving the gameplay and visual design but in the back of my head I was like, this would be STELLAR if it had even the simplest of 8bit tunes. For a first time player, this entry is absolutely fantastic. Can't wait to see what you come up with next jam :) <3

This game is very awesome! I liked "boomerang" mechanic for attack, open-world made me explore a bit, but game needs some secrets or points of interest. Also, you definitely need to add i-frames after being hit. Because you easily burn all lives on one enemy. But overall a very cool experience!

The main mechanic is very nice and charming, it would have been nice if you could throw is diagonal too. I also think there should have been some invulnerability after getting hit, sometimes I would die instantly, even with 3 lives. I also like the art.
Really neat idea, but I really wish that when you fired while standing still you would shoot your bucket hat in the direction you last travelled.
I really like the mechanic of throwing the bucket and then moving around so it hits things on its way back. It might have been a bit better if it were easier to aim. I liked the cute pixel art too!

A beautiful game! I liked the interpretation of the theme, the graphics and the gameplay. It's really fun to try to locate water on the map. Congratulations.
