Fun and polished game!

verso 2020-10-05 05:15

Great idea and execution! Really well polished, and I love the art style. Great work!

cagibi 2020-10-05 05:30

Very nice gameplay & art! Well balanced as well, I nearly run out of satellites before the end.

clemonades 2020-10-05 14:22

Well, idk what to say more of the same we've come to expect from Mr. Vimlark. Simple engaging game play, lots of game juice/polish, and great art. Man...the compo was brutal but, you did it! Nicely done as always good sir. - cl3m0ns on twitch (leader and ceo of the hand Kappa)

Fun idea! Fairly polished as well. I found it difficult to control multiple objects at once along the same circular path, but after getting used to it I really enjoyed myself. Although a nice feature that makes sense within the game's setting, I was not a fan of the satellites continuing to move in the previous input direction. When things get hectic on screen, and the player needs to manage ten to twenty objects at once, not being able to correct the course of a few specific satellites due to it moving on its own feels frustrating. Overall though, Nice work!

mohdi 2020-10-05 20:21

Fun game! The mechanic is cool. Now I know how Elon Musk must feel. :) I'd love to see some sort of tower defense type add ons to different satellites or to be able to smash the meteors into one another.

walaber 2020-10-05 23:43

Great job Vimlark! You'd never know you struggled with the concept from the final result! It took me about 8 tries to finally save the Earth :)

enzoup 2020-10-05 23:57

Really fun game, and well polished, the art style was really cool, great job!

red-chilakillers 2020-10-06 00:02

Awesome and fun, I loved the art style and the satellite trail, great challenge and game overall.

cnewt 2020-10-06 00:17

The art style and gameplay are really good! It's an original idea with great execution. I just wish there were more levels.

tarvisplays 2020-10-06 05:49

Awesome concept! I could see this as a viral mobile game one day!

kisk 2020-10-06 09:22

very polished and fun little game, i liked the art style it's really adorable, well done vim.

geryon-games 2020-10-06 12:59

The artstyle is great and the game is well polished, the core gameplay loop has a great tradeoff between getting more parts and better protecting your planet. All in all, great submission!

idunnyx 2020-10-06 20:23

Great job Vim! I love the concept and the art.

supergamersgames 2020-10-06 20:24

Not bad.

j0ye 2020-10-06 20:29

Your style of making games is really down to EARTH. Tho you were really shooting for the STARS with this one^^. Everything is great. The concept is very basic and so is the game play loop. But it fits the theme nicely and is fun and it is polished. Great idea executed well!

barelyevengames 2020-10-06 22:43

Very cool game! Its a fun and unique idea and not too challenging. I beat it on my first try, granted I watched you play it first so I think it was a little easier maybe. That's awesome you were able to make it in such a short amount of time.

eugenik 2020-10-06 22:53

Cute game! 5/5 for Mood.

cad 2020-10-06 23:39

Very solid game loop! Fun to play, graphics are tight. High level of polish, which is rare for LD games!

robin-psaila 2020-10-06 23:58

Very fun and well polished game! I loved the mood and especially the mesmerizing trail the ships leave behind them. I would have liked the experience to last longer though. I feel like an endless survival mode with more and more difficulty could really show how far the current gameplay could go. Thanks again a lot to @vimlark for having played our game on his twitch livestream and thanks for the feedbacks! Have a good one :)

fabula-rasa 2020-10-08 09:34

That was quite fun if short. It took a while to learn, get used the controls enough to actually save the planet. But I did it :)

I liked the audio as well, it gave the game a nice rhythm.

It's a nice small game. Good work!

laurari 2020-10-08 19:24

great work!! just saw your video, we did start from scratch on Saturday but for jam we had 1 more day :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

tomate-salat 2020-10-08 19:38

Also just saw your video and I somehow felt your pain because I also struggled a lot with the theme (not as much as you - but I also thought about quiting the jam).

I like the outcome very much and I wouldn't have noticed the "journey" behind it. I think it was worth it spending so much time with the controls because they've turned out very well. In general I like your art style so it isn't a surprise that I also like the art from that game.

If you'll continue working on that game after the jam here are some ideas of me: - I'm sometimes an impatiant person. It would be nice to skip the intro-sequence of a new game. May hitting enter brings one directly into the gameplay - I think it might would be cool to be able to have collectibles which are reparing a satelite (may with the condition that it has to become collected by a broken one)

Overall: really nice game. Continuing with the game was the right decission ;-)

dragonzbw 2020-10-08 20:57

Very nice, balanced game. The lack of pixel-perfectness does bother me but whatever, it's a compo game. Overall the sprite work is quite nice and the particles add a lot. I do wish it was a bit longer or that there was some kind of endless mode.

noakishere 2020-10-08 21:10

Really innovative ! really cool game Vim! The controls I think can be improved a lot better but overall it's a fun little game and I enjoyed :) thanks for this !

lazyalarm 2020-10-08 23:16

Very well done! I struggled with using the arrow keys because they're all cramped up on my keyboard, so maybe wasd could've been a nice option but generally it controlled well on the game side of things. Im surprised that somehow when thinking about the theme that orbit never once crossed my mind. But it works quite well!

tauheed-game-dev 2020-10-09 03:41

Really liked the controls and concept of the game (for some strange reason I wanted to collect the parts with my mouse while controlling the satellites with the arrow keys), saw your video and yeah, the theme wasn't the best but most of us got through it in the end. Well done

minibetrayal 2020-10-09 10:24

Good job! I'm not sure if this was intentional but the music seems to speed up slightly when I hit space to start again? Not complaining at it though; it actually added to the tension. Perhaps could have slowly sped up the music throughout the game?

neowhoru 2020-10-09 11:41

really neat game - good concept :)

ruling-spear 2020-10-09 13:23

Like the simplicity of the game, yet appreciate the complexity that had to go into it. Nice job!

brorenata 2020-10-09 16:26

This is phenomenal! Love the concept, controls were really tight, difficulty was just enough to make it fun but not unfair.

codehacher123 2020-10-09 18:04

Really fun game, although after a while, it does tend to get boring. Great game though.

indieronin 2020-10-09 19:48

Nice and polished game, I could cheat a bit by just keeping in one of the directional buttons and moving them toward and away from the planet. I liked the sound track and the pixel art. The game was fun, keep up the good work!

dakke 2020-10-09 21:48

Nice game, i like the graphics. Felt polished enough. Cool that you came up with this idea.

I didn't understand when the new satelites spawned. Then i read the description about that again. Then i won ^^

rhewid 2020-10-09 22:51

The graphical effects are really stunning. Loved the concept. Really great game, very solid entry.

ludumdaredevil 2020-10-10 21:51

Cool game! I really liked the art!

tgiant 2020-10-11 06:36

Excellent game. Very well polished like all your other games. The controls felt very smooth and the longer I played the more the controls became second nature. Art was also very well done. Good job.

skeffles 2020-10-11 10:17

This game looks simpler than playing it. It's very aesthetically pleasing and well made.

rawb 2020-10-11 15:40

This game is so fun to look at

judgezedd 2020-10-12 09:22

You know this already, but there's nothing quite like a simple idea, done well. Execution is so vital in a weekend jam with a hard time limit, and I think (having watched your devlog) the process you went through has led to a very refined idea, that plays with a deceptively high level of player complexity and skill ceiling. Awesome output, as usual. :)

thanielpin 2020-10-12 16:46

This definitely worked best as a 60 second challenge than an endless game. It was really sweet! There were so many little things that helped with the gameplay, such as the trail of particles left behind by the satellites or their colored outlines for health. Can't believe this is compo, so cool!

joleon 2020-10-18 11:24

Hi there, semi-junior jammer here!

I watched the devlog and I'm inspired by the process. Having the will to scrap your project many hours in, in an effort to find the fun - I would never have dared to try something like that (but next time I might  )

Also interesting that you use the same beepbox/bfxr combo that I usually do, it's nice to have my choices validated.

You left me wanting to try a solo compo game for the first time, I just have to get over the art hurdle first.

As for the game -- well, as you said yourself, it is wonderful to look at. Super juicy, both the visuals and the sound effects. The Earth animation was worth it, in my opinion.

I also do think you found the fun in the end, even though it was a challenge. Perhaps the control scheme is still slightly awkward, but is real easy to learn, after which you definitely feel in control.

Great game! Will keep following you in future endeavours :)

scottgoldsmith 2020-10-18 16:10

Great game, I'm a huge fan of your stuff. It was interesting to see your struggles with your Youtube video for this one. Love the artwork.

pixelpaw 2020-10-19 11:18

I like it! You could easily add different levels (like mars, venus, etc.) and make this into a mobile game.

fatal-exit 2020-10-22 16:57

Nice game, really enjoyed, very innovative mechanic yet still controlled well! Nice work!

etrealjunior 2020-10-25 07:27

Hi how are you! congratulated, you have developed a really fun game, I’ve been following your work for a long time now you build wonders using the engine I use, I’m a big fan of your work, I know it’s your style, but in this game I believe that a pixel font would be better, the effects are very beautiful, I found it strange when the earth is destroyed the game continues to work, but it does not hinder the fun, I am very happy, it is a great honor to be sharing the same space with great ones talents, a big hug.
