Apr 21 22:08:04 Sunlit ♥ 2 Amazing entry! I love the trimming mechanics and the shadow bits add some drama when you realise you need to prune your best branch so far (or, even worse, when you miss by a couple of pixels 😭). Even so, watching leaves change colour makes up for it. Graphics and music are lovely, and the whole experience feels very relaxing, even if I'm still striving to reach the highest possible height. Congrats! :D Here's my best tree so far:bonsai.png
Apr 21 22:10:31 2m 27s Keep It Alive (didn't find a better title, ah) ♥ 1 The game idea is quite effective, fits the theme well and the different skills are nice, but there are some bugs in the controls making gameplay a bit frustrating. Like another commenter mentioned, A doesn't work and using the arrows makes it tricky to switch between clicks and E/F keys, so I had to move with Q/D,which was less than optimal. The wind skill was an unexpected nice touch, even if using it next to a wall usually caused the mana jar to fall off bounds. Nonetheless, there's a cool idea here with potential to become even better. Good job!
Apr 21 22:44:46 34m 15s Feed me if you love me ♥ 3 Art style is so cute! Who wouldn't want to keep that lovely little plant healthy? 😍 Mechanics are clear and work well, it adds the little bit of stress that compels you to keep trying if you fail (which I did a couple of times 🀦 ). The twist as you finally discover how you fill ALL of the needs was brilliant, it was super funny and I loved it! Great job! :)
Apr 21 23:05:16 20m 30s hoarde. ♥ 1 Mechanics are simple, but surviving requires a bit more thought than just dashing blindly. When I realised the game immediately became more fun, I really liked that! Not sure if at one point the dashing bugged, because the main cube started to attempt dashing outside of the game view even if I was tapping on the center. I couldn't reproduce it in the next playthroughs though. Other than that, I liked the music loop and graphics were nice. Good job!
Apr 21 23:32:16 27m 00s Garden Royale ♥ 1 Great concept! The balance between relaxed gardening activities and frantic mass murder offers a lot of potential for a multiplayer game. I think for the setting pixel art works well enough :D My main issues come from the lack of feedback about your surroundings. Unless I had an enemy right in front of me I would get shot and not even realise at all until I was dead (the HUD does update, but you're not actively looking at it if you're focused on the scene). Also, tracking the state of your garden is simple once you figure out, but it was not immediately obvious, so I lost once because I was not aware of the withering state of my garden. Some basic sound effects would help a lot with some of these things. Despite all this, I do think there's something really cool past the feedback issues. Keep working at it! :D
Apr 22 20:20:13 20h 47m Mind Defender ♥ 1 Cool entry, with quite an interesting take on the theme. I was already sold when I checked the turrets, and then saw who the first mob units were :D I was expecting more levels after the first, but other than that the game feels solid, with nice art and a fitting music choice. Great job!
Apr 22 20:40:18 20m 05s Don't Let The Wave Breakout ♥ 1 Brilliant concept! A really cool take on the theme, with nice graphics and a fitting music choice. My only bit of nagging is that at the beginning I was expecting the trail to be some sort of a tail rather than anticipate the actual direction, so the moment I started the level had to quickly place a block on the other side of the screen πŸ˜… Once you realise, it does make sense, though, especially because of the really useful reflection preview as you get near a block. I think that at some point I could make two blocks overlap, but perhaps it was the timing. A really cool entry with lots of potential. Β‘Awesome job!
Apr 22 21:49:53 1h 09m Remember, Apollo ♥ 1 Wonderful entry! The amount and quality of content is amazing, moreso for a compo game. Loved the melancholic mood, the experience of the chase and I found the game mechanic cool, even if the node snapping + falling through felt a bit non-deterministic: sometimes I'd go back to the node, some others I'd just move to one or two levels afterwards, and it was not immediately clear. Awesome work, congratulations!
Apr 22 22:50:22 1h 00m Happy Life ♥ 4 Lost my job, but kept my wife and pet happy. Well, guess you can't have everything 🀷🏻 😬 Great concept! All the attention sinks on the scene made keeping everything balanced challenging, which was cool. Graphics and music suited the game, too. The phone interface was a bit glitchy, and there was one time where none of the options offered by the waiter matched the menu (not sure if this is bug or feature though, to be fair :D) Other than this...Nice entry overall, congrats!
Apr 22 23:00:03 9m 41s 7 DAYS OF FEEDING ♥ 2 You did fairly well for a first-ish game, congrats! I really liked the concept πŸ˜ƒ It fit the theme well, mechanics were easy to grasp and the story felt reasonably well written. Managing hunger and suspicion was a bit easy, so I reached day 8 without too many issues (I found myself with lots of cultists often, so rather than finding bodies I would just feed them πŸ™) Nice job!
Apr 22 23:28:04 28m 01s Highlights ♥ 2 Loved your take on the theme, and how each conversation was laid out (especially the last one ❀️) Graphics were nice and together with the music did a great job setting the mood for quite an emotional experience. Great work, and good luck with those finals! :)
Apr 22 23:49:24 21m 20s Pirabbit ♥ 1 I clicked for the rabbit sprite, then stayed for the fun πŸ˜ƒ Great entry! The core mechanic worked flawlessly and was as simple as it was effective. Slightly faster pacing would be welcome, as the game starts feeling a bit repetitive before new elements start appearing, but it's not super critical. Loved the graphics and sound/music too, congrats!
Apr 23 00:18:27 29m 03s the ruins ♥ 1 I was going crazy until I discovered you could double jump πŸ˜… 🀦🏻 After that I enjoyed the journey towards the sanctuary. The plant was falling a bit too easily, but that was the point and eventually you figure out the way to minimise drops. Nice choice for visuals, I really liked the tileset. Like the rest, sounds and animations would be cool, but I think we all know by now how time has the nasty habit to fly over the weekend. Great job! :)
Apr 23 20:40:32 20h 22m Missing Pieces ♥ 1 Lovely aesthetics :) The mechanics were simple and felt polished, even if the second level was a bit frustrating because of the amount of backtracking involved, as the solution came down to trial and error. Despite this, the overall experience felt relaxing for the most part, and besides the visuals and music, as I said before, I really liked the concept. Congrats!
Apr 23 21:02:45 22m 13s Keep, Calm! ♥ 1 I was frustrated with the controls most of the time, but at the same time it was part of the charm in a twisted way. Despite them I kept going until I beat it because the concept was insane and I loved it to pieces (no pun int...well, yes). My left hand hurts now, yet I regret nothing πŸ˜ƒ I'm not sure if it was possible to lose, but the way the keep was getting more and more wrecked made reaching the end feel epic. Graphics were charming, reminded me of Kingdom Rush or Hidden Folks, and if I hadn't been so focused on advancing I would have kept looking at the scenes to see if I spotted some weird things going on. Some sound would have been the icing on the cake. I really liked the game. Amazing job, congrats!!
Apr 23 21:33:47 31m 02s ADRENA-LINE ♥ 1 I reached 22 and had to stop or I could continue for an hour or three; this game is certainly flow-inducing πŸ˜… As polished as ever, I appreciated the simplicity on this entry. The game mechanic was simple and immediate to grasp, and the visuals were pleasing to the eye. Nice job!
Apr 24 00:34:20 3h 00m The Seeker ♥ 2 Nice interpretation on the theme, and overall a really solid entry. Trying to reach the next tar pit was distressing and compelling at the same time, and I've felt like I was reaching further away on every run (I still want to keep trying a bit more). Graphics are nice and I loved the atmospheric sound effects. Controls using an Xbox One gamepad were smooth and precise, jumps felt great! As for improvement, I think once you've played through the tutorial sequence once it should be optional. Amazing job! :)
Apr 24 21:41:44 21h 07m Ballad of the Bard ♥ 3 Wonderful game! Concept and setting were instantly appealing for me, and I found graphics and sound to be among the best I've seen so far this edition. Loved the palette in particular, it fit the overall camping in the forest mood perfectly! Mechanics were simple, but introduced at a decent pace, and it even has a tutorial! A couple of relatively minor things to improve: * To play minor chords only L-Shift worked for me, which made combinations sometimes harder to get right fast. * I accidentally burnt the stick we got by lv.3 before the explanation for moles. I don't know if stick generation is scripted or randomised, but it could be cool in terms of pacing to make sure the player has a stick available after they've seen the text. Other than these things, congratulations to the whole team. This was super cool!
Apr 24 22:02:10 20m 26s Trap-o-mancy ♥ 1 Great take on the theme, loved the concept! Once you get the gist of it every card you pick carries a lot of tension, and card synergies were a really cool detail It took me a try or two to do so because the layout of the expected outcome was a bit off. Perhaps it would be clearer to place the objective outcome above the customer and to move the stats below, or something like that that kept both bits of data closer. I liked the music, too. Good job!
Apr 24 22:48:25 46m 15s Mage or Trouble ♥ 1 Nice entry! The combat system felt quite fleshed out, it started to shine with the Ninja encounters. The starting point felt like a neat take on the theme, even if I didn't get to feel much of a hurry to escape (although once I was actually going to wander in the labyrinth for treasure and my party told me not to πŸ˜… ) Like in most JRPGs random encounters can be frustrating after a while, but well, that comes with the genre, and I could escape without issue from all the lesser encounters I tried to, so that's something :) Good job!
Apr 24 23:08:33 20m 08s Keith's Flint & Steel ♥ 1 I'm not a Prodigy fan, but seeing the cover instantly made me curious about the game. Great pixel graphics and catchy music followed next. I liked the concept, too, it was quite straightforward but it works well. It took me a while of trial and error to figure out exactly what I needed to do and how, but after that the loop is clear. The "lose" detection also seemed to trigger a bit too early. I got the "Lose" screen while I could still see the fire had some fuel left. In any case, cool job! :D
Apr 25 00:44:55 1h 36m GhostVac ♥ 2 Short but fun experience with super cool graphics! I found the game via your post talking about how you achieved the 3D-looking aesthetic in full 2D and I'm impressed at how well it does the trick. The tie to the theme may have got a bit lost from your original concept, but the game might have become better in return, so that's fine :) It does offer lots of potential from multiple areas, I could even imagine some kind of multiplayer game modes fitting well with this. Congrats!!
Apr 25 00:58:50 13m 55s CrossWalk ♥ 0 The concept sounds brilliant and graphics are simple but look quite good, but controls at the moment make playing really hard πŸ˜… Since I can still imagine them being tricky because of the idea itself, I was thinking that once you get the bugs out of the way it might be cool to keep the tutorial section (nice addition, btw) as a safe environment where you just play around moving buildings for a while without having to worry about the character. It's a very promising idea for your first LD, and I'm sure you can polish it into something cool. In any case, good job!
Apr 25 01:56:16 57m 26s A-maze-ing Mess ♥ 1 After mapping the full layout on grid paper I managed to beat it! πŸ˜ƒ Great atmosphere, pretty immersive even in WebGL if you ask me; not sure if you got to fix the colours as you'd mentioned in the post-mortem. The mechanic is simple, but the focus here is exploration, so it doesn't really need much more. Perhaps the lack of threats (other than the flame dying and sending you to the start room) detracts a bit of the tension created by the eerie visuals and sound in the long run, but I remained determined to find all three grimoires. Amazing entry! old-books.png
Apr 25 19:26:59 17h 30m Dino spin ♥ 2 Amazing entry, it already feels like a finished game. Mechanics are simple but very polished, and the pacing feels quite fair with a lot of new elements being introduced progressively (currently on lv. 11). Graphics and music are lovely, that dusky sky in particular gives quite a relaxed vibe. Super solid entry, congrats! :D
Apr 25 19:38:06 11m 07s Doin' It Live ♥ 1 I loved this game! It had lots of charm , was really fun (played 1 sock mode) and the stop motion visuals were incredible. I tried to play the first time without looking at the instructions and struggled until I learned about the moods (And the glorious eyebrow controls πŸ˜‚ ) There were a couple of bugs here and there: at some point I just wouldn't lose, so I had to force quit, and after I won both texts overlapped. Nothing that can't be fixed :) One of the best entries I've played so far, amazing job!
Apr 25 20:06:41 28m 35s Tower Defence of the Heart ♥ 1 Past the cheesy song (a guilty pleasure of mine πŸ˜ƒ) as the concept's starting point, this is a really solid and fun entry. I struggled the first times to avoid being overwhelmed at wave 3, but eventually you figure out the best positioning -and reach the 15$ I needed to place that wonderful, wonderful beam πŸ’• . Colour palette and sprites looked great. Not sure if this has been reported already, but beam towers are targetting backward too (not that I'm complaining, it saved my life a couple of times 😬) Good job!
Apr 25 20:56:52 50m 11s Economic Bubble ♥ 1 My bubble burst after 43 days. So much for capitalism! 😭 Jokes aside, great take on the theme! Music was catchy and it fit well, and I liked the art references. Not sure how the band-aid worked exactly and I didn't get to use the needle, but I had fun trying to balance temperature and pressure. Nice job!
Apr 26 00:34:06 3h 37m S for Squad ♥ 3 Nice art and amazing sound/music. I also liked the fourth wall breaking dialogues and the humour bits. Gameplay was interesting and the main objective fits the theme well (I love turn-based tactics games), but I'm afraid it could use more polish. I think having to exhaust the movement points before you could attack was one of the most frustrating bits, as it led to empty movement actions which could ruin positioning (to be fair, enemies don't move, so positioning in this case wasn't actually that important). Besides, it was totally possible to view enemies and target them through walls (and enemies me), which shouldn't be the case unless there was some kind of opening. Enemies tend to appear as if they were covered by tables, but in practice I was never sure if those covers were real or just visual. Last, it would be nice to be able to drop hostages by the helicopter one by one. In this case I can undesrtand having the game objective be "all or nothing", but in some areas (each hostage would be in a completely independent area) it felt like going one by one was the "logical" option. All of these thing can probably be sorted out, and the concept is cool, so keep working at it! It would be great to see an improved version.
Apr 26 02:30:00 1h 55m Tetralon ♥ 1 Great game! I like the "plague-free" towns concept, and execution in general feels quite solid in general. I didn't experience any issue. Once I realised how exactly I needed to enclose my villages gameplay quickly became addicting. So far I've reached Noble rank πŸ˜… Well done!
Apr 26 03:10:15 40m 15s Can Adequately Generate Charge, C.A.G.E. for short! ♥ 2 Nice entry! Controls in some of the minigames could be tighter, especially as in some cases they could require a degree of accuracy hard to reach with a keyboard, and the charging speed could be faster: eventually they could drag on and repetition could become boring. It was also possible to nullify gravity on the flappy bird-alike by sticking to the left wall. You would still have to move up/down from time to time, but it helped reaching further. After a while I managed to find the Easter Egg (I think) and that was interesting! I got Undertale vibes for some reason. Congrats on your first jam game, it shows a lot of potential!
Apr 26 22:51:24 19h 41m LAIKA ♥ 1 Loved the concept. Descriptions were hilarious, I could totally depict poor old Laika falling to pieces at each stop. Despite all the problems I managed to arrived in time for my baboushka's birthday πŸ˜„ In the hall of the mountain king added to the mood. Nice choice of music. Great job!
Apr 27 20:33:50 21h 42m HEAL ME PLZ ♥ 3 Brilliant entry! I loved the take on the theme and setting, graphics were top-notch and music was really catchy, the degree of polish was insane. I managed to beat the game on my second attempt once I started combining together heals + kicks/character skills + my own special skills, and if I was already having fun on the first playthrough, the second felt GREAT. I loved the combat mechanics! The usual MMO/MOBA toxic banter of my party members cracked me, I found that hilarious. Sometimes I have to fill as support in a mobile MOBA I've been playing for a while and I've felt sympathetic for the main character every second XD Perfect 5 here, I was expecting some high quality game and I wasn't disappointed.
Apr 27 23:39:12 3h 05m Terminal Charge ♥ 1 Loved it! Your take on the theme was really clever, your choice for graphics and music fit the theme well and set the atmosphere nicely, and you managed to capture the rush to arrive in time, the added pressure of having some leftover battery and the infinite annoyance of having to cross the airport because they've suddenly changed the gates. Besides, everything felt pretty clear to me. I had a few minor issues with collisions vs other passengers, but well, just like real life 😬 Jokes aside, other than that controls felt quite tight. Amazing entry, congrats! πŸ‘
Apr 28 20:39:03 20h 59m Save the torch! ♥ 2 Nice entry! It was a bit weird to find a tutorial entry and then miss the fact that you had to collect the torch's embers afterwards. It took me a couple of hits to see why I had been damaged. Despite that, the take on the theme is clear, the idea is simple but works well and even if the game may be difficult it has that arcade touch that makes it the good kind of challenge for me. Good job!
Apr 28 20:52:23 13m 20s Capybaba ♥ 2 Cute and funny concept! Level design looks quite thorough, and music/sound are nice. Gameplay still needs some polish on jumps and collisions, but there's a good starting point. Congrats on your first jam, it looks quite promising!
Apr 28 21:17:04 24m 41s Blackbird ♥ 2 Loved this entry! The concept was simple, but very well executed. I loved the bird graphics and animations (the crashing one was painful to look at) Flight controls felt super tight once I got used to controlling the speed, which was not the case on my first run πŸ˜… After that they just "clicked" and it became immensely rewarding to just speed up and turn. Landing still took a bit more work πŸ˜„ Btw, that first playthrough ended abruptly on a black screen and I had to reload. I was still hearing sound, so I'm not sure if there was any kind of error or if I just hit a defeat condition. Luckily, it only happened once. On my second run I did reach the end, which was kind of sad. However, I got a contradictory message between what I was seeing on the scene and the text that confused me a bit. Despite those relatively minor things I really enjoyed this game. Congrats!
Apr 28 21:59:51 42m 47s Scrambl'd ♥ 3 Impressive entry! It fits the theme like a glove, it is FUN, it has lots of content with top-notch quality and it works flawlessly in a console (I started playing in the browser then I realised I have a GBA that could run the rom :D) The game is difficult, but in the right way. Visuals are clear, controls are tight and I very rarely felt cheated (at most the first time I discovered a new section of a level). Almost every time I died I knew what I had to do next time. In fact, I felt compelled to do so. Graphics were great and the music track was super catchy. In summary, one of the best, most solid games I've tried this edition. Amazing job! PS: Like some other commenters, I'm really curious about the code πŸ˜ƒ
Apr 28 22:14:47 14m 56s Keep the GameBoy alive. (on GameBoy Advance) ♥ 1 Cool entry! Deceptively simple, but it gets challenging FAST (not complaining, eventually you get into the zone and start learning the patterns). I tried it on a second-hand GBA and it ran without issues, even if the contrast was a bit low in occasions (it could be the hardware). Congrats for targetting that platform, I've checked TONC tutorials in the past for GBA and NDS, but never gathered enough inspiration to try and do something, even less for a 48-72h jam πŸ˜… Amazing work! :D
May 5 16:57:57 162h 43m The Glimmering Woods ♥ 2 Short but lovely! I loved the graphics, and the music choice fit well the setting. The story kept me interested, specially as I started talking to the NPCs. After all the fearmongering I was super stoked into going back into the woods πŸ˜… There were some collision issues between the characters, but other than that it all felt pretty solid. I hope you can continue it so you can implement your full vision. Congrats!
May 5 17:04:31 6m 34s This Website Will Self-destruct (dot) com ♥ 1 Lovely concept! I wish we can all manage to keep it alive and healthy for a looong time!
May 5 21:13:58 4h 09m Perish alive ♥ 4 Great concept! It reminded me of FTL on a submarine setting, with lovely graphics and amazing music. The camera was a bit glitchy at times, but other than that it felt pretty solid. Congrats!
May 9 14:03:15 88h 49m Robot Battery Dig ♥ 1 Nice entry! Concept fit the theme well, and the time-based depletion rate felt fair so you could take a bit of time before digging to plan. Graphics are nice and in general it all feels quite solid, but I think there are a couple of issues that can be fixed to make it even better: * As others have mentioned, your score might depend a lot on the RNG. I don't know if you set any rule for generating cells, but perhaps making sure that there's at least one battery after every [min-max] layers would help. * While digging with the mouse was comfortable, the adjacency restriction felt too slow for movement. * Instead of behaving like tiles, perhaps it would be a nice idea to have batteries behave like the player and fall all the way down to be auto-collected by the player so you don't need to click on them to use them (on the other hand, I haven't tried this, but the reverse might help you keep a battery and keep it on top of you to be used in case of emergency πŸ€” ) I also coded a driller game for #ld38, so I ran through some of these issues myself πŸ˜… In any case, congrats for a great job! I've scored around 10K points so far and still playing it (this mechanic is too addicting :D)
May 9 14:33:31 30m 16s Plantsitter ♥ 2 Great entry! It fits the theme perfectly, looks and sounds lovely, and I personally love time-management games. However, I'm afraid that it becomes stressful way too early and way too fast. You're still getting used to the tools, learning what each of them do and how you can take care of one single plant's needs, and suddenly you're overwhelmed having to deal with several more at the same time and no clear indication as to how much time you have per customer πŸ˜… For the most part this looks like a balancing issue, and you already have all the ingredients working, so I hope you keep improving it, because it has A LOT of potential to be expanded into a full game. Congrats!
May 9 14:40:19 6m 48s The King's Gun Guy ♥ 1 Cool entry! I've only tried the submission version so far, and while there are some unfinished mechanics, as you mentioned, it is already fun to play. It became challenging quite fast, and I especially liked having to change weapons according to the mob types (I fell in love with the ice gun πŸ’• ) Other than the finish condition, at some point a bunch of enemies got stuck in between the platforms and stopped moving (this was fortunate, because at that point I was dealing with a MASSIVE wave of enemies). Shortly after that, I had managed to reach around 45K points and stopped getting enemies. I decided that I had won at that moment and quit. I liked the art style, it reminded me of BattleBlock Theater :D I'll make sure to check the post-jam entry, I'm curious to see how much it's improved. Β‘Enhorabuena!
May 9 15:31:35 51m 16s Ant ♥ 1 Beat it! 😎 Great entry, with some challenging and well paced puzzles, even if I could skip some of them accidentally; luckily I managed to get enough water for the colony πŸ˜ƒ The art style was just beautiful, probably from my top 10 this edition. Amazing work, congrats! :D
May 9 15:42:37 11m 02s Flippy Fish ♥ 3 This is just perfect! :D Brilliant take on the theme, with amazing art and a simple but addicting and FUN af mechanic that got increasingly challenging. Loved your music choice, it matched the art well too. I failed spectacularly the first time, but I managed to reach 217 on my third playthrough in the web version πŸ˜… ld46-flippyfish.png Amazing job, I love this game!
May 9 16:17:10 34m 33s The Flame ♥ 1 Loved the concept and atmosphere right from the spooky intro song (I LOVE IT, I still have it playing in the background). Execution was solid for the most part, but I missed some continuity between events that could have taken the game from "cool" to "brilliant". For example, I got a really interesting result in theory once, affecting one of the campers. I was expecting that event to carry over and affect the context back at camp, or perhaps some other future events, but unfortunately that never happened. Even worse, I sent the same guy again to the forest and the exact same happened to him twice. This inconsistency lessened the impact of the ending I got. I'm curious about what other commenters have mentioned, so I'll be replaying this. Despite this, I really liked what you set out to do. Β‘Great work!
