Oct 7 21:50:13 A Field of Flowers ♥ 1 A very relaxing experience, with lovely pixel art and soothing music ☺️ After spending the weekend jamming and a working day playing this felt like a great way to disconnect, congrats!
Oct 8 20:47:00 22h 56m Untitled Goop Game ♥ 2 By the third level, past the mechanics introduction, the core mechanic and the level design start to shine. The solution to some of the levels required some creative thought as to how to better combine the stick/unstick action, and it felt great when you managed to beat them. The sound effects and some polish details like the trails really add to the experience, too. Amazing game, congrats! :D I'm currently trying to figure out the level with the cannon corridor and the line of mines below it πŸ˜…
Oct 8 21:22:51 35m 51s Vessel ♥ 1 Great concept and take on the theme! The claustrophobic atmosphere is really well developed to the point that I feel anxious playing. It's a pity that we can't rate the sound. We do have the Mood category, at least, but I agree with @baturinsky. You've done a great job in the sound design area that should be acknowledged. I'm still trying to figure out what the controls do. I'm tempted to put some headphones to be able to focus on the aural cues as well, but the bell sound gets me on my nerves πŸ˜… Small doubt: I'm guessing that the display on the right refreshes as a response to what you do and the outside world. In that case, is the feedback to the changes triggered by your actions instant? I fear that sometimes, by focusing on the left level I lose track of the display, since we can't control the camera at that point. Congrats!
Oct 8 21:33:01 10m 10s Knight of Redemption ♥ 1 The Windows build contains another copy of the build inside :D This said... I think I beat the level but not really πŸ˜… I reached the grass area, but since I didn't get any message and could still move I just kept going and entered an adjacent corridor with death spikes. As we say around here, "curiosity killed the cat". The music loop fit well with the game, but became repetitive fast. In any case, good job! :)
Oct 8 21:42:14 9m 13s Mergem ♥ 1 With this type of games one of the things I enjoy the most is discovering new combinations for the first time. Here it felt a bit more limited and I reached the end of content easily. Visuals and sound were nice, and the controls worked well for the most part. In some cases I was trying to combine a pair of items and the game went on to merge a nearby one. The end result benefitted me after all -probably the items I was trying to merge didn't have any combination- but it felt inaccurate since I was clearly trying to connect different elements. Hope you can keep updating it to show the full idea implemented. Good job!
Oct 8 22:04:31 22m 17s Pug Dealer : An Underdog Tail ♥ 1 This was amazing πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚ A really funny take on the theme... with doggos! How not to like it? 🐢 Gameplay itself works well, although I agree with other comments that sometimes the collision areas for the loan sharks are a bit too big. Also, the positions and roles of the characters are more or less fixed, so eventually you can just memorise a safe path from a dog shelter to the dog addicts and grind your way out of debt. In any case, I've had a good laugh. Awesome job! PS: Playing the HTML5 version I decided to reload the tab to watch the intro once again (🀣) and now it gets stuck right after the Unity logo.
Oct 8 22:20:59 16m 28s Blank Page Syndrome ♥ 0 Interesting take on the theme. I liked the mechanic, but I had some issues with the controls and the inspiration detection. It was hard to tell where exactly to move from the particles alone. It was also way easier if you just went slowly, which I guess could also be interpreted as some meta commentary... "just take it easy and inspiration will eventually come" πŸ˜€ Nice entry!
Oct 8 22:36:08 15m 09s A Game about Nothing ♥ 1 Cool concept, I kept not playing it until the end (and right after that I got the out of memory warning on my browser πŸ˜… ). It gave me vibes of Pony Island and others. Great job, more so considering it was a 6-hour entry. Congrats!
Oct 9 19:05:38 20h 29m Egg Farm ♥ 1 This felt super original. Once you grasp the mechanics (I have to thank the hint button at the beginning or I probably wouldn't have figured what to do πŸ˜‘) it also becomes really engaging. Graphics and sound are clean, even cute, and in general it all feels quite polished. Congrats! Now let's get a few more trophies...
Oct 9 19:23:39 18m 01s Shape Invaders ♥ 0 I could play this kind of games for a loong time, they're sooo flow inducing :D You made great use of animation to juice up the visuals, from the small recoil of the ship cannons to the background squares. Sounds were a bit too loud, but they fit well. I wasn't too sure about if there was any way to make the upgrades appear, or if it was just a matter of surviving long enough. In any case, I think I reached to the third upgrade selection panel and the game also crashed for me when I picked the health power up. Despite this, I really enjoyed playing it. It feels quite solid, well done!
Oct 9 20:55:08 1h 31m NΓΌllptr ♥ 2 I love the game, but the first seconds can be needlessly frustrating if the RNG gods are not feeling generous. Once you get through that rough start it really starts to shine. Graphics and music are polished and catchy, and the shoot-em-up mechanics are well implemented with a nice nod to Mario's power ups. Quite a solid entry, congrats!!
Oct 9 21:31:37 36m 29s Ultra Quest ♥ 1 Impressive entry, more so considering it's a compo submission. Loved the visuals, so cute and colourful, and the music fit well. As for the game itself, I really liked the progression and the "creative usage" of the tools at your disposal. The sword bit on the third level made me chuckle, these details added some nice flavour 😁 My only issue was that jumping and movement felt a bit fast, but it didn't really impact most of the fights or getting through the levels. Also, something even more minor: once you reach the end the player appears behind the chest, so the celebration feels slightly washed up. Despite these things, yours is one of the best entries I've played so far. Congrats! PS: I won BIG MONEY, yay 😎
Oct 10 00:50:41 3h 19m The Choice of Life: Middle Ages ♥ 3 Really funny take on the theme, it gives me vibes from the Choose Your Own Adventure books, which I loved. Music and graphics fit like gloves and everything in general feels really solid. Congrats!
Oct 10 21:13:55 20h 23m Higher Desire ♥ 4 I got stuck at the end as well (not sure if it was a bug trying to show "game over" or if I had won, to be fair), but I really liked the game. The concept was a really original take on the theme with great graphics and some soothing sound and music greatly contributing to the mood. The mechanics were challenging and I appreciated having to keep track of your breathing as you shot πŸ˜… Great job! :D
Oct 10 22:00:22 46m 27s Soundmarine ♥ 0 Yay,someone used layering sound/music for their take on the theme! It looks and sounds gorgeous, one of the best I've played so far. Mechanics are simple, but they work well if we take this as some chill experience (I still kept trying to reach further to see how the world unfolded in front of me). Loved this, congratulations!
Oct 10 22:28:01 27m 39s バクラウBloodless ♥ 6 Wow, amazing entry! It was interesting to see how you chose to use the theme as part of the narrative AND the mechanic, it fit together very nicely. Aesthetics and the atmosphere are incredibly immersive and it shows everywhere up to the level transition screens. I really like the limited colour palette, and the music in particular is beautiful, I could keep it playing in the background the whole night. Gameplay was also quite polished, a simple core mechanic well executed, and that could have potential to be expanded with more variations or side mechanics. Trying to focus on your enemies for the counters felt challenging and really satisfying when you landed them. I managed to beat it after dying a few times, but I loved every moment (even if there were a couple of times where I was hurt and I wasn't really sure that I'd got hit, but perhaps it was just me πŸ˜… ) One of my favourite entries so far without a doubt. It would be great if you kept working on it after the jam Congrats! πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘ PS: After playing this I feel like retaking Sekiro again too πŸ˜†
Oct 11 00:02:15 1h 34m Reboot Royale ♥ 1 Loved the concept and how the battle royale rules persisted in the time between matches (players fighting each other, the shrinking circle...) πŸ˜† Gameplay was interesting as well, although the click detection failed on several corpses and I couldn't finish in time. Nice job!
Oct 11 19:42:45 19h 40m Memories of Eleph ♥ 1 Beautiful and melancholic entry, your choice of music greatly contributes to the atmosphere. I loved the plot and setting as well, it is a great -even if potentially sad- take on the theme. As for mechanics, while the dungeon exploration and puzzles are well thought, there were some issues with the keyboard controls and the enemy collisions that frustrated me a bit. Switching to a controller improved the feel dramatically. Lovely work, congratulations!
Oct 11 20:42:41 59m 56s HiddenThings ♥ 1 Nice concept, and a great fit to the theme from two different angles! Gameplay was simple and well executed: I admit that when I started finding the narrower passageways I almost expected to get stuck (it happened in other games I've tried in the past, and even games by myself), but that never happened here πŸ˜„ Besides the three objects, revealing the level itself and finding out there was more to it than just rocks felt very rewarding too. Great job!
Oct 11 21:51:05 1h 08m A Thief's Lament ♥ 1 I tried to play like Robin Hood in both playthroughs, only stealing from the rich and powerful. I got caught, of course, but I'd totally do it again, only more carefully. This was a really cool take on the theme. You've done a great work both in terms of concept and execution, with the picture and music choices adding a lot to the immersion. The writing was good too, with some funny bits here and there. Really cool job, congratulations!
Oct 11 22:47:17 56m 12s Spooky: The one who lost everything ♥ 3 This was brilliant! Really high level of polish in visuals, sound and level design. The music theme was really catchy and helped a lot with that ghostly atmosphere, but being relatively short it felt repetitive a bit fast. The game mechanic was simple and clear, and yet coupled with the levels it offered a lot more depth than expected. As for controls, they worked pretty well for me. While trying to get past certain bits the inertia could feel a bit annoying, but I had assumed it was intentional to make the ghost movement feel more believable (as believable as ghosts can be, of course πŸ˜€ ), so I tried to account for that when moving. The only issues I could think of trying the jam version were that first, bullets would sometimes keep waiting near a possessed lamp only to kill you when you fell down to the ground. Is that the same bug as the one you mentioned in the changelog? Secondly, sometimes the view would glitch slightly when the camera scrolled. I played the game in a browser, so that might be related. In any case, this has been almost a perfect 5 for me. Hope it will eventually turn into a full release. Congratulations! spooky-won.png
Oct 11 22:59:29 12m 12s The Darkness ♥ 0 Nice game with a spooky atmosphere. It was challenging at the beginning, until you start getting the orbs and get enough light to move around a bit more at ease. Good job!
Oct 12 13:45:50 14h 46m Keep Me Burning ♥ 2 Almost perfect entry. My only complaint is, as you may guess by reading at other commenters, the excessive repetition, even if level design in itself feels really good: it keeps pushing me towards discovering the next challenging section, and mastering those platforming challenges and reaching the next was super rewarding. Having the roadblock switches be persistent across runs tries to mitigate this a bit, but it stills fall short when even with them you have to repeat increasingly longer sections of the same path over and over until you find the next available switch. I don't mind repeating a section I keep failing at because that's the whole point, but doing so from the beginning of the level is too harsh a penalty for a mistake. In some cases, such as the first time you arrive to a crossroads and you pretty much need to do a wild guess for the right path, it is actually unfair. Sorry if that bit of criticism sounded harsh, I've temporarily stopped playing to rate the game and I'm still a bit tilted πŸ˜†, but I'm beating this today for sure πŸ’ͺ. I'm loving everything else, from the art style (the character animation is really cute :D) and the level lighting to the sound design and music. Mechanics are clear and tight, and the controls feel really polished. Well, everything is super polished, it feels like a game I would be wishlisting on a PC store or my Switch. Awesome job, congratulations!! (But please, checkpoints! πŸ˜… ) [EDIT]: Just beat it! :D burning.png
Oct 12 14:40:16 54m 26s The Persistent Thief ♥ 1 Quite an ambitious entry for a compo game, and it works great! :) I really liked the minimalistic pixel graphics, and while you opted out of Audio, sounds added to the atmosphere. My only complaints would be, having played on a browser, that the page browsing interfered with the mouse during gameplay, it would be nice to have a full screen toggle (Doesn't itch provide that on the project dashboard's settings?). Also, since you may need to use the mouse, arrow keys are almost out of the question, and WASD controls plus the different actions were a bit tricky to pull for a platformer. Controller support would have been ideal, but it may not come for free depending on your engine/libraries choice. Since in this case an item/enemy only had a possible key-dependent interaction, having a single "action" key might have worked as well. In any case I've had a lot of fun and the game looks great. Congrats!
Oct 13 15:48:50 25h 08m Inky escape ♥ 1 Great entry! I really liked how you need to keep track with rhythm, avoid the boxes AND memorise the sequence (it gets easier if you do) at the same time, it can get pretty challenging. I've reached level 12 so far playing with a controller, and I feel compelled to keep trying. Congrats! πŸ˜ƒ
Oct 13 23:56:08 8h 07m Cyber Tails ♥ 1 Art style looks great (the tentacle rotation in particular is super cool), and I really like the concept, although the connection to the theme isn't super clear to me (it's quite late in here, maybe I'm just too tired to see it right now πŸ˜…). Once I figured out what to do it was quite fun to play, but sometimes it was tricky to tell if you've actually beaten the level or not, it would be nice to add more feedback there and delay the level change a bit. Nice job!
Oct 15 15:48:46 39h 52m Socks ♥ 1 A socks factory is a cute take on the theme. Simple and clear, well done! PS: My Cotten socks factory is working at such capacity the progress bar is flashing so fast it could cause seizures πŸ˜ƒ πŸ˜…
Oct 15 16:28:57 40m 11s HEARTSCAPE ♥ 1 Brilliant entry! Game mechanics are quite original, and learning the interactions can have some surprising effects. Both visuals and sound felt really polished too, even more so for a compo entry (The baby hearts! 😍). I think I got stuck on my first playthrough (got swarmed by shield cards πŸ˜…), but I managed to beat it on my second and then I felt smart about it. This concept has a lot of potential, I'll be looking forward to more levels. Congratulations! :)
Oct 16 20:10:28 27h 41m Please Move ♥ 1 Lovely little game. Music and graphics were good and played very nicely together with the theme to create a soothing atmosphere. It took a few levels to figure out the main mechanic, but once it all clicked together it felt quite original. Well done!
Oct 16 22:23:59 2h 13m Mr. Nothing ♥ 1 Great concept! I really liked your interpretation of the theme. Levels were nicely paced, and I loved the music track. The main thing to improve would be the controls (to be fair, they can be a nightmare to get right πŸ˜…). Even if it was relatively easy to infer your position, movement was a bit too floaty and led to some unnecessary repetition. In general it all felt really solid (well, except the poor main character, who was nothing most of the time :D) You packed a lot of content in a compo entry, I'm amazed. Well done! PS: I made it to the last level but fell on the left side (don't ask πŸ˜‘). There was the restart option, but it would be nice if in those circumstances there was a bottom limit that autorestarted.
