Aug 13 06:46:22 Warp Tunnel ♥ 1 Hi Monster! I was going to play your game but I get some errors when I try and launch it. ptthreadGC-3.dll missing SDL2_mixer.dll missing SDL2.dll missing I'm not sure if thats on my end or not but it's stopping me from being able to play your game.
Aug 13 07:01:09 14m 47s Grid Locked ♥ 2 Hi, Drunkard I just had a play with your game and it's a lot of stupid fun. It's very hectic and I love it. The shooting has a lot of juice to it, the sound effects are on point and shooting those damn spheres was so much fun. The graphics also had a really nice simple style to them. I did have some problems with the framerate though. This was especially noticeable in the later stages to the game which I can only attribute to the particle effect, I would tone down on those. Another gripe I had was that once you ran out of the first few tiles (awesome interpretation by the way), you were basically playing for the last few points until you eventually died. I say, kill all the enemies on the screen when you get hit so I can get my bearings back together. Finally, I'm sure there was a pattern to the tiles destroying, however dying because you were on that falling tile when you got hit was infruriating, you could mark the tile that's about to fall red and give 2 or 3 seconds to get the hell out of there. Otherwise, an extremely fun and hectic shooter with a great interpretation of the theme only adding to the tension. The highest score I got was 1407.
Aug 13 07:23:13 22m 04s Deep Heat ♥ 2 Loved playing this one. I think the thing that I appreciated most about this game was how well the mechanics were though out and implemented. The Fire and CO2 added a whole nother strategic layer on this game. Coins were easy to get but it meant that the you were always upgrading and playing slightly differently than last time. The music kept me hyped the whole way through and it was actually quite difficult. I do think there could have been a better to implement the "You have a limited amount of Fire and CO2" mechanic (by the way I beat the game and got all the upgrades), possibly, putting out 2 or 3 Fires gives you one back? I know you didn't want people to beat the game on the first try but I think there could've been a better way to do it. Some screenshake would've made the game a lot more satisfying and juicy as well. This is a very good submission with a lot of potential. Good Job on this one :)
Aug 13 08:01:55 38m 42s TeTrans ♥ 1 This game definitely had a lot of strategy inolved which was quite nice. Planning out your routes and the cargo you will take took some thinking. Obviously some music, even a simple loop would've been nice. I liked the amount of gameplay polish with the UI and everything. A nice submission.
Aug 13 08:30:40 28m 45s TightFloe ♥ 1 I agree with others saying that the game needs some more polishing. The visuals are fine, the UI is fine, the gameplay is fine, the music fits the mood, problem is that none of it is explained so I didn't really know what to do. The sound of penguins dying/ yelling (not too sure) was a bit excessive in the later parts of the game though it did add to the tragic overtone. With some more work you should be able to make a really nice, sad game. You have an interesting idea it clearly just needed more time, which you know have! Post-compo version here we go!
Aug 13 08:38:31 7m 51s SQUASH KILL ♥ 1 It's a fun idea and it's actually pretty fun to play! The crushing is brutal but satisfying as hell. The controls need some work, I'm not very convinced by the "turn on your own axis" movement system but I got into it after a while. With some polish this could be a pretty fun little game.
Aug 13 09:02:13 23m 42s Exodus Terminus ♥ 1 Initially I was a bit wary since I'm personally not a fan of games that relate to real world politics, but I couldn't stop myself from playing! Seeing what the next person could bring was crazy addictive! If you added some more interesting mechanics this could actually be really, really enjoyable. That may also be my major issue, there isn't really a challenge I found, I never struggled through the game or had to think much about my money. I say, keep working on it. It has a lot of potential!
Aug 13 09:10:57 8m 44s Alone in the Sea ♥ 1 Echoing what everyone else said, the Jumping was very unresponsive. I did like the main mechanic of the game and I think you can build some interesting challenges out of it. It has a nice consistent visual style but is missing audio. It's a good proof of concept and with some more work could definitely have some fun gameplay. Also, you forgot to post your source code.
Aug 13 09:19:10 8m 13s Endless Game ♥ 1 This game was very fun to look at and listen to. The particle effects were very well done, the sprites were consistent and drawn very well. And the music, oh god the music! It was amazing! I think the game needs some more work on the gameplay side of things. Maybe a mechanic or two that add an interesting twist on the genre, so it stands out among the rest of the endless runners. It's a very solid game with amazing visual and audio work. I did encounter one bug where I got stuck on a rock, but I didn't encounter it afterwards. Well Done!
Aug 13 09:48:36 29m 26s We Need Space! ♥ 1 As @listonos the UI needs some work, I coudln't figure out exactly what to do so I ended up basking in the glory of procedural generation. Very well done for building that during the Compo. With some polish on the presentation it could be a very fun space management game. Also, an option to turn off motion blur would be very much appreciated.
Aug 13 12:04:11 2h 15m The Amazing Shrinking Game ♥ 1 I agree with what @triplefox and @jsmcag said, the game feels a bit too reliant on good power up drops. It seems like power-ups also dissapear after a while, there should be a better way of conveying that information to the player I feel. But the game has a great feel to it. As @jsmcag also said, you can always tell how large or small the board is. It gets pretty hectic after a while of playing which make losing all the more enjoyable. With some extra polish and playtesting I think this could turn out to be a solid game.
Aug 13 12:32:04 27m 53s Crate Chaos ♥ 2 This game was very well polished and doing things such as moving crates was very easy and seamless. The UI and everything was very neat and clean. The mechanic is very good and has a lot of potential. My personal gripe is the control scheme. I'm not a fan of arrows + space since it forces me to cramp my hands which is why I prefer arrows + X. Adding in the bombs and raining crates really added to the levels and the pacing was almost exceptional. Anything else? mmm... no. I had a lot of fun with this one.
Aug 13 12:49:24 17m 20s Binary Odyssey ♥ 0 Very well polished game. The movement, the UI, the artstyle it all was very clean. The game had some really nice visual effects (rocket launcher) and some great weapon variety (ROCKET LAUNCHER AHAHAHA). I found the first round quite difficult and the following ones easier, so I think the pacing needs to be reworked a bit. The music didn't really get me into the game either, I think it was a bit too dull (the audio one not the "boring" one) and not upbeat enough. Otherwise, had a some fun playing this one. Also congrats on early 20 votes.
Aug 13 13:02:27 13m 03s Manspreader ♥ 2 What a brilliant idea! I actually laughed out loud mutliple times during this game. Adding measurements for the distance of your (filthy) manspreading was a great idea and I loved the random commentary from our MAN throughout the game. For improvement I would say add more varied gameplay, it felt very 'samey' after a while.
Aug 13 13:27:13 24m 46s Beach Time ♥ 1 Fun game albeit as @jasper-hansen said it gets repetitive after a few minutes of play. I love the visuals and some music and sound effects would've really made the beach come to life.
Aug 13 13:52:21 25m 08s Death Remains ♥ 1 Simple game with an interesting concept. I would have prefered if downed skeletons wouldn't rotate when moved as trying to get them into the graves was basically a suicide mission. Some more sound-effects, screenshake and changing the art on those UI elements so it compliments the style of the rest of the game should be a nice touch. With some polish this could actually be really fun, this has a lot of potential!
Aug 13 14:01:54 9m 33s Running out of Space ♥ 1 Simple premise has some potential. I think what this game is lacking is gameplay variety. It gets a bit repetitive after a while moving boxes from one spot to another, maybe adding in another conveyor belt with a seperate drop off point to create chaos and force the player to make more decisions. I really enjoyed the music in this game in particular, really catchy and gets me hyped. If you want to I say, keep working! You can definitely make something really fun and hectic here.
Aug 13 14:12:29 10m 35s OVERKILL ♥ 0 Really nice visual style, I love the way enemies broke up when they died. I think there needed to be a bit more though to the gameplay, it seemed to devolve to, "hold mouse to win", maybe some ammo management? A shop with upgrades between waves? As @paden-shorey said being able to fire in more directions would have helped with those flying enemies. But I really love the artstyle and you should keep working on adding more content.
Aug 13 14:31:06 18m 37s ReMind LD-42 ♥ 1 This game was very good at building suspense with the black on white colors. Simple sound effects and a brain and thoughts being used as symbolism was great. Some ambient sounds could've really pushed this game into the "ultra-moody" category I feel so well done in that department. While the slow text builds suspense it was way to slow for my liking and I grew tired of basically waiting for text to appear. The game in the background didn't keep me interested in the downtime between text as there wasn't much variety or much of a challenge. I'm sure there is an interesting story here but I couldn't bring myself to go beyond ~50 points. It's a good narrative game with a few flaws, these are small issues and if you can iron them out you can make a really interesting story driven game.
Aug 13 14:51:55 20m 49s Petra ♥ 2 This not only had a really good twists on the age old block moving puzzle genre but the actual puzzle's were very clever and used their given elements very well. I agree with @triplefox that the music is a bit too... "hardcore" for a puzzle game I ended up turning it off as well. The art and colours were really nicely done and really other than the music... I don't really have any complaints.
Aug 14 07:37:20 16h 45m Hungry Whale ♥ 1 A simple and fun game with a sad overtone. I really liked the music and the eating sound effect. It gets oddly relaxing at one point just swimming around eating plastic, though this game needs some sort of a failure state so there is some sort of a challenge. But I can't lie, I actually kind of enjoyed the gameplay.
Aug 14 07:55:42 18m 22s Born to jump ♥ 5 This game has a really interesting idea behind it. The 3D pixel art-ish style was done really well and the game felt somewhat alive. I loved the particle effects when getting hit (though I did get stuck in an object and a loop of death). The presentation in this game was amazing for a Ludum Dare entry. However, the game definitely needs to loosen up on the difficulty. Some of those jumps require seemingly pixel perfect precision since the hitboxes are way to large. It's also difficult to tell what your next obstacle is when the player is covering it. Adding an image to the side of the screen showing the player what the next jump is would alleviate that issue. Some more balancing and this could be a pretty fun experience.
Aug 14 08:25:33 29m 51s Zero Grace Megadrive ♥ 1 Very much getting Slither.io vibes off of this. However this one seems so have a lot more charm to it. The Jump mechanic is well thought out and executed and I like the fact that the AI is superhuman and can somehow weasle it's way out of any tight situations, makes the game a lot more enjoyable and fair. I don't think much more needs to be said, maybe some music and then this game would be even better than it already is.
Aug 14 09:16:04 50m 31s Big Crunch ♥ 1 What an awesome way to execute a runner game with the camera. The controls and movement all felt responsive and fluid. I'm going to assume the levels are procedurally generated but the fog effect was extremely well done as it gave an idea of the ever-expanding universe you're in. I quite liked the music as well though it didn't give me that "adventure in space" vibe. Maybe some more elements that you can encounter in space and this would be a really fun and enjoyable game.
Aug 14 09:38:50 22m 46s 7:30 am ♥ 3 This game is so simple, so damn simple, but I love it so much. Everything about this game made me laugh in one way or another, the faces of the people, people jumping on the track, the sound effects, the realism, this game was made for me. There are some smaller qualms though. For one the mouse isn't locked, which is not only irritating but will make your game horrible for anyone with multiple monitors. Some levels would've elevated this game to a much better spot as well. All in all, funniest game I've played so far.
Aug 14 20:44:16 11h 05m Shapes ♥ 1 Just quick props for the font options, it's something that many game developers ignore now a days and it's good to see some support for different fonts, so thanks. It's a simple game and gives me itch.io vibes. I was slightly confused when you ate a shape and it seems like you teleport to... somewhere? I didn't really understand that. Controls are nice and responsive. Just some music in the background and maybe some graphical polish needed.
Aug 14 20:59:40 15m 24s LegDos ♥ 1 I think this game needed a bit more playtesting as I think some of the mechanics are overshadowed by others. I decided to buy a game which took up a lot of my hard drive. Ok, I bought the game, I'm not too sure what advantage it gives me but cool. Let me work a bit so I can get money and up my hard drive storage. I never seemed to gain money? I would get a good amount and then taxes would swoop in to bite me in the ass. So the whole experience felt... slow? My first LD game was actually a resource management game as well (a poor one at that) so I know it's difficult to balance these games in the time given, so if you want to keep working on your game I say first things first work on the balance and explaining the mechanics in a bit more detail. This game does have quite a lot of charm though, with the spin-off names actual LD Jam games (my game is actually called DOS as well which I thought was pretty funny) and a familiar interface if the core mechanics are worked on a bit this could potentially be really fun.
Aug 14 21:17:52 18m 12s We Are Millions ♥ 1 I played this game a lot more than I would like to admit. Killing hundreds of bears with one nuke is awfully satisying. This game would do great with some extra content to keep people playing till the end; more people, more abilities this game already has a lot of charm (bears on rafts 10/10). Main issue is that the performance tanked to a near halt at one point in the game. I'm going to assume you made every entity independant (it's own set of scripts and everything) which would probably be it. Some of the abilities in the store are painfully difficult to select (the nuke near impossible and that last one seemingly impossible) can't tell if it's intentional or not. But I still had fun buiding Build-in-Bears Republic and then nuking it to oblivion for my own capitalist needs.
Aug 15 09:33:59 12h 16m Space Trap ♥ 1 Fun little game. The controls were a bit too tight for my liking, take @guin36 advice. I had some minor lag during high intensity moments (I recommend you look into object pooling if you haven't already). The music was subtle and added some nice atmosphere though the sound effects were a bit too ear grating for me. With some screenshake and more satisfying sound effects this could be a really fun game.
Aug 15 16:24:06 6h 50m Vain ♥ 1 The first game I found that tries to go for an uncanny valley style of game. I wasn't a fan of the blind jump every now and again. I like how the music is constantly messed with and has an irregular rythim, it's difficult to tell whether certain sounds are from the game or the music, so you definitely ticked the "Confuse the hell out of the player" aspect of the uncanny. I think it was missing the terror aspect though. The player constantly being in fear of what the game may do next. That long bridge segment was a perfect time to add in a speed up or a glitch to the music. A good example of a game that perfects this aspect is Doki Doki Literature Club, if you want an example of what true fear of the game feels like I recommend you take some notes from it. Otherwise, this has a lot of potential and something one can work on to perfect it.
Aug 15 16:43:25 19m 19s (Running) Flying out of space ♥ 1 You need to change the font, it's too low res it's difficult to read even full screen. The art felt pretty polished. Space looked quite nice in this game. The shooting sound effects were well picked. I wasn't too sure of the controls, you may need to try and find a less crampy scheme. I can tell you needed more time on this but it's solid for what there is.
Aug 16 08:33:05 15h 49m Super Dungeon Freakout ♥ 1 Seen as your just starting with gamedev (I presume) I applaud you for taking in a Game Jam on your own. I hope you learned a lot from it. The way the shield was implemented is something I'm sure I wouldn't have been able to do a year or so ago and it's actually a really novel concept with a lot of potential. While the game has music and sound effects, let's just say - they didn't exactly fit? When I'm thinking of trying to escape a dark and desolate cave heavy rock isn't exactly the first search result that returns to my mind. The jumping sounds were too human as well (a simple "boing" would have sufficed). However! Your game still at least HAS both of those things and they weren't obnoxious so you're already ahead of around 40% of all games in the sound department. I found a glitch where if the player isn't able to use his shield (hugging a wall for example) the game queues the action until I can throw it. Ladders were a bit shoddy I found, if you want to implement ladders I recommend you reduce the players horizontal force (or completely lock it) as they feel a bit floaty. Lastly I found the game painfully difficult. You need to keep in mind that the person playing your game didn't build it from the ground up. I recommend you get someone to playtest your game to see how they react to different situations. Overall, don't be down on yourself, as long as you tried your hardest and you were proud at the end it all went to good. My first LD Compo was my first serious game, I don't recommend you look :D. I really did enjoy the shield mechanic, if you want to keep that idea for a later project I recommend you do!
Aug 16 09:03:08 30m 03s Build Build Build! ♥ 0 You clearly neeeded a bit more time. I respect that you're going to keep working on the game and get it in the state you want to get it in :)
Aug 16 09:26:51 23m 43s Break The System ♥ 2 This game had some really nice polish. With the ambient chatter, the graphics, it was very clean to say the least. There were some things that bothered me (since you're asking for critic I'll focus on that), first, the font didn't really fit the rest of the game, what was that, Arial? Remember, using fonts doesn't break the rules so try and find one that fits the style of the game a bit more. Speaking of text, if a person said more than one line and you talked to them twice in a row the text would clip. I really liked the music but otherwise the game felt... empty in the sound department, I would've loved a really satisfying glass smashing sound or shooting sound. I was a bit confused initially as to what certain items were. Someone was asking for ID so I looked around and found some paper, I guess it was any old document? A little tooltip at the bottom to tell you what an item is would've been really nice. There's definitiely some potential here for some interesting puzzles. You don't see a lot of 2D detective/ spy action games so it's nice to see something new from this game!
Aug 16 09:37:51 11m 00s Pool Watch ♥ 2 Fun and funny game! At first I though it was a bit easy but it escalated at a really good pace. Needless to say, Nutty's Pool of Adventure and Fun turned into Nutty's Pit of Death and Despair pretty quickly.
Aug 16 09:53:32 15m 41s The Red pixel ♥ 1 Nicely polished though sound effects and music was missing. You need to work on those insufferable blind jumps of doom. The 5 levels available were pretty large so good job on getting so much content out there. The movement was pretty fun especially the super tight walljumping. The RAM mechanic is a novel concept but not integrated enough into levels, I just forgot about it at one point. It's a still a really good minimalistic platformer!
Aug 16 10:00:52 7m 20s Storage ♥ 1 Missing some sound but it's a fun little timewaster. There's a bug where if you click on the quit or return button and the confirmation prompt comes up you can just pop all the apps while it's paused. Looks like no one else has mentioned it. Works great on a phone!
Aug 16 12:19:40 2h 18m Oniria Times ♥ 1 What an awesome way to tell a story. There was a lot of variety in the different texts and for a compo game that's really impressive. The music got a bit repetitive after a while but not irritating (you coul d turn it off anyway). It was an... interesting story to say the least but I didn't like the fact that you had to basically read most of the text so you can get invested in it. Maybe a quick round-up of what happened between the end of the last day and the start of the new day.
Aug 16 12:27:38 7m 58s Dis-mantle ♥ 1 It's an interesting concept, one I don't think I've ever seen before. The game would have been a bit more challenging though if the player didn't have infinite reach. I like the music, it fit the game pretty well. I wasn't that much of a fan of UFO's spawning and instantly shooting me but otherwise with a bit more work it could be a lot of fun!
Aug 16 12:37:44 10m 06s Oh, sh*t! — Ludum Dare #42 — Running out of space ♥ 1 I had fun playing it. I don't think I've played tetris in this form before so it was a nice change. The audio as @squabbler said was a bit too loud. A main menu would have been a welcome addition as well. But I can see this game potentially being very fun and addicting.
Aug 16 12:53:32 15m 48s Scape Espace ♥ 1 Game is very nice looking, great combination of genres and very fun to play. I think the only thing this game is missing is a soundtrack that fits the fast paced runner style of play better. Very good submission!
Aug 16 13:45:29 51m 57s CubiCo ♥ 2 Fun little game with a really unique and interesting idea. I thought the pacing was a bit too slow. The first few puzzles after the obvious tutorial levels I found to be too self-explanatory and could be solved with trial and error, everything after though was great! Some of the ideas you had with the chairs and the file cuboards was great. The music and art were well done as well. Good job!
Aug 16 15:11:35 1h 26m Super Responsible Parent ♥ 2 This was such a damn brilliant idea! The humour, the controls, the music, everything about this game was perfect. I also loved the trashy vibe this gave off with the art and animations just added to the humour. I need more levels! This is such a great game!
Aug 16 17:37:03 2h 25m Sticks and Stones ♥ 1 A short but very powerful game. The audio is dark and creepy the sprite is oddly fitting and the way the text is used as a metaphor is very clever. This "game" is definitely not something I've seen before in a Jam.
Aug 16 17:45:44 8m 41s Mommy Hates Playday ♥ 1 I can't wait for "Mommy Hates Playday 2: When Moms fight back". It was a fun little game, 3 main things stood out to me though. No item pick up sound so it was difficult to tell when I actually sucked something up, mouse sensitivity option - vital for this kind of game and also if the mum picks up TRASH it doesn't count as making the house cleaner? Only when you throw it out. I'm not sure if that's intentional or not, just pointing it out. Otherwise, yeah, I had fun!
Aug 16 17:57:09 11m 25s Robots Of Outer Space ♥ 2 I liked the concept! I appreciate the fact that you put so much time into basically giving everything sound effects, really adds to the game. My main issue is that the control scheme is slightly iffy for my liking, being able to build while holding shift would have made the game a lot more comfortable for me. But it's still a fun game with a great difficulty curve.
Aug 16 18:16:10 19m 01s Mini Micro ♥ 1 This game gave me serious Mini Metro vibes, luckily I loved the style of that game and I love the style of this one! The mechanics here are extremely well thought out, RAM, CPU, Transistors (I think) all created a really challenging game. The music, while uninspiring was at least calming my brain which at that point was in overdrive. I would have liked the ability to choose how fast a level goes (since in some parts the game goes too slowly), trow some polish on top and you have a really fun brain killer game.
Aug 18 15:06:14 44h 50m Crate Rush ♥ 1 As others have already said, neat game that's very stable for a first release. The movement feels too griddy and I had a bug where when I tried to pick up a box my player was stuck in an infinite walk cycle.
Aug 19 09:41:55 18h 35m Gut Feeding ♥ 2 A very fun idea with really good execution. I liked the idea behind the digestion mechanic and it created some nice decision making moments if you should spend time downing the food or taking in more. As @flaterectomy said the game needs some more balancing as I never struggled with running out of space and only ever worried about the time. Also Lerping the selected food to the players mouse made the game feel very slow and unresponsive to me. I had a lot of fun with this game. Hope you do well :D
Aug 20 10:02:16 24h 20m Graveyard Manager ♥ 1 R.I.P Lee James| Age: 3| Cause of Death: Old Age I was a bit unsure about the whole "Visisted Graves thing" it didn't seem to make much of a difference. As @enot487 said the game is way to easy and can certainly be played infinitely. I did, however really like the humourm and the idea has potential
