Thanks! I'm very glad you liked it!
Interesting take on the theme!
So far it was one of the best games I've played on this ludum. Amazin atmosphere, interesting stories. The whole idea of running your own newspaper is just great. The music fits the game well, which immerses you but doesn't distract you from the game which is its main purpose. Music plays its role the best it can. Stories are witty and fun to read. Like, I ACTUALLY want to read them. Especially short ones with crazy titles. Good job! Thanks for this experience, mate!
Wow what a great piece! I was so engaged, I played through 3 times. Loved the stories. I still didn't manage to solve the arena thief mystery unfortunately. The graphics and animation were so clean and satisfying. I loved seeing the published article as if I had actually made it myself. Great fun, 5s all around.
This is an amazing concept! One of my favorite games in this Ludum Dare so far.
- I love that there are subplots that you can uncover. It really feels like what you put out in the paper makes a difference. - The dialog with the dude could use some work, but for the time limit, it got the job done. - Oniria, the world of dreams, is a really interesting idea and feels almost surreal. - I like that the center image of the newspaper seems randomized, which makes each playthrough slightly different - One suggestion I have is that once you choose a story to go into a section of the paper, it should be removed from the "Choose News" list (and put back if it's replaced)
I felt compelled to play multiple times until I uncovered the Arena plot and became a slave to tuna. For a compo submission, this is great work! I had a lot of fun!
Unfortunately, audio in the game isn't working for me.
The game is pretty solid. Very interesting take on the theme. Though the "we're running out of space!" messages seem forced, kind of like somebody telling a joke then jabbing me in the ribs to explain the joke and ask if I get it. (Yes, I get it.)
I really liked the not-entirely-related, spontaneous pop-up messages. The core concept of this game seems very effective-- conveying information about the game world and giving you a role in it, but it benefits from these sort of mini-breaks. I would definitely enjoy playing this kind of game with more padding between newspapers.
Awesome work!
Wow! Super interesting game and well adapted to the theme!I liked the balance between the news. Good job!
Great game!I won't stop until I catch a thief ;)
Great storytelling technique, it's interesting learning more about this dream world through the newspaper stories that come in and manipulating the public image of Oniria based on what stories you put out there. I'd love to see some art of this world and the Intellituna species!
I think a small UX improvement would be to show which page slots are taken up already during the placement sequence, as well as removing placed stories from the list as @lyxil mentioned above. Overall, amazing work!
@alexosa @jerripo this is the best you can tell me. Many thanks :_)
@lyxil thanks for your analisys. Oniria is in fact a great world that we all have inside. I'm writting a book about it. The Arena and some other things are the differenciate concepts (but Intellituna just emerged during the jam xD). (Also @rosypenguin) Instead removing the news from the list, I think maybe mark it like "wrote" can be a good improvement. Thanks for the idea.
@acdimalev if you tell me your browser and OS, I can maybe fix it. Thanks for the feedback :)
@rosypenguin some UI improvements are planned... maybe I'll expand the game in the near future.
okay ... it was funny ^^ But you could to improve the UI in my opinion. It's too simple. Otherwise, congratulations to you :)
What an awesome way to tell a story. There was a lot of variety in the different texts and for a compo game that's really impressive. The music got a bit repetitive after a while but not irritating (you coul d turn it off anyway). It was an... interesting story to say the least but I didn't like the fact that you had to basically read most of the text so you can get invested in it. Maybe a quick round-up of what happened between the end of the last day and the start of the new day.
THIS. GAME. IS. BANANAS.
Reminds me of the wacky headlines in Simcity 2000 I love the surreal sense of humour and how you've created an something that acts as an engaging simulation and interesting storytelling device *at the same time*
Lovely stuff!
It was pretty nice game that was well done, and managed to keep my interest for quite a long time.
Its a nice game. Really liked the topic of dreaming and the humor you use.
Very amusing news stories. Well done
I loved it! I really enjoyed the overall concept and the fake news stories were interesting and funny. Great job! I would love to see this expanded into a larger game but I think there would have to be more game play elements for that.
It was a great game, I enjoyed the concept... It's nice not to be pressured despite the theme, the dialogues and the writing were interesting and funny! Well done! ðŸ¤
@call-me-nutty thanks for the comments. I know the weak point of the game is that you must read a lot. I'm focusing in the type of player who loves to read (in a game).
@mediyaz, @darylsteak, @jk-studio, @sand-gardeners thank you so much!
@adam-harms I'm thinking about an expansion. Maybe doing a more advanced "accounts" management could work. Something like choosing distribution places for newspapers and so.
This is an interesting idea with some good replay value. It made me laugh a few times and I enjoyed how the stories progressed too. Nice work!
Great idea! Funny game and interesting idea of the player telling its own story ^^ (I did make the fishes win the first time, hehe)
Not sure I understood everything I did (I get some stories published will lead to a victory of the tunas or not, but for the thiefts?) but the ride was fun enough for me to replay it twice ^^ I would have loved to have a bit more different content based on the previously published news, but I understand you probably didn't have the time to add more articles!
Congrats! :)
@0nironauta Adding in advertising could add a new dimension
@adam-harms oniric advertising! So nice idea!! :D
I had fun playing it, the tuna ending was especially funny. I had a hard time understanding what to publish to effect my reputation, but the "match the center column" bonus was an interesting inclusion that made it a little easier to figure out what to pick. Good job with an interesting idea, thank you!
That's a stunning idea and the use of the theme is super original. It has a nice "Papers Please" feel to it and I like how the picture influences your choice. Congrats also on the production, the sfx, the animation, it all fits your theme well. Great game, congrats!
It's an interesting idea. Kind of funny to choose what to publish to care of reputation and sales. (ノ・∀・)ノ
We also have an entry if you want to play it and rate it, we would love that!
I really had fun playing this one. Great concept!
Nice idea! I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum Dare 42 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/CCzYoSZIQ24
