| Dec 3 14:28:41 | Alain's Sacrifice | ♥ 2 | That was a really nice game you made. Big up for the visual presentation. The fire looked good, the particles were done to perfection and the designs of the enemies were pretty solid. I would say that working on your animations skill could really up your game (mainly the walk-cycle), the music was fitting, maybe a bit too simple but it definitely added to the general mood. The concept of the life-gems is fit really nicely around the game and I liked the wholesome conclusion. Otherwise I would say more work on some of the gameplay mechanic would have gone a long way and maybe adding a bit of environmental variety to the game (some ditches or little hills maybe). I quite liked this one, thanks for making it :) | |
| Dec 3 14:47:28 | 18m 47s | Explosive Sacrifice | ♥ 1 | Hi Cute Dog. I just played your game and I must say it's an awesome take on the theme. I went in a bit confused (I didn't read the description properly) trying to figure put what to do. Then I thought to myself, _"Hang on. Do I have to die on the tomb?"_ and when I catapulted myself on the tomb and it worked I just released a breath of joy, it's such a unique idea! I loved the adorable character design and his walk-cycle. There are a few other things I would like to point out though. When I think of the concept, the first genre that comes to my head is 'Puzzle-Platformer Game', trying to figure out how and where you have to exploderise yourself. However the way the game played it felt more like it was trying to be a platformer than a puzzle. The player glides a bit too much on the ground and makes certain jumps extremely difficult. Also I found some of the levels to be built slightly odd, for example in Earth 2 when there's that mine which just blows up and there's nothing you can do about it, I don't understand why you didn't just reduce the players health before-hand. All it really does for the player is make them think that that mine is placed as part of the puzzle; if that makes any sense. Otherwise I had a lot of fun playing this one. A really good mechanic and idea which works pretty seamlessly. Also, I like that initial message you get when you start up the game ;) |
| Dec 3 15:09:25 | 21m 57s | Flying Farmer | ♥ 1 | I quite liked this game. The game has a nice style and some nice background music. It's a simple game quite well executed. I do like that you can push off the animals yourself what I _don't_ like however is that the animals have a tendency to just walk off the platform on their own accord. Quite irritating seen as I suffer through no real fault of my own. But otherwise it's a fun little game. Thanks for making it :) |
| Dec 3 15:22:33 | 13m 08s | Sheeps Empire | ♥ 1 | It's a nice concept with a really good interpretation of the theme. I liked the art and general style of it though some music or sheep sound effects could've added to it (a simple beep on bfxr would have sufficed). I only really had one issue and that's that sometimes I felt like I had little control of the movement of my sheep, I know that the sheep being a bit herd-like is a part of the game but sometimes the herd would just stop or begin dividing. I'm not sure if that's a bug or intentional. Otherwise I really liked the simplicity of this game, not too complicated and quite a bit of fun :). |
| Dec 3 15:50:49 | 28m 16s | Eskate Death | ♥ 1 | Really fun and simple game. I don't really have many complaints it was just really good. I love the fact that quiet a lot of the sounds were just made with someone's mouth. The fact that Penguins must be sacrificed strategically adds a really good layer of strategy to the game and the general placement is balanced so the game is never too easy or too difficult. Maybe just polish off some of the visuals (particle effects when the Penguin is being mauled for example) or add some more variety on the tracks. My favourite submission so far! |
| Dec 3 16:03:17 | 12m 28s | Ice Runner | ♥ 1 | This game gave me serious de ja vu. Mainly because I started working on a game a few months back which was really similar to this one. Though this game is easily more impressive than anything I could have produced at the time. The visuals are awesome, best looking game I've played so far. The music fits really well and the whole soda can theme is done really well. Only things that irks me is the occasional blind jump, especially the ones right into danger, don't use blind jumps in your level design unless it's meant to evoke fear in the player. Also there's a pretty major bug where the player will stick to walls allowing you to ninja your way through certain sections. But I still really enjoyed completing this game. Thanks for making it :) |
| Dec 3 18:01:31 | 1h 58m | Subway Crisis | ♥ 1 | Fun little story you've made, I like the concept behind the story and the environment is really well built. As with any point and click, I'm very bad at them so I got stuck in certain parts. There isn't a lot of variation in the sound effects but the sound effects that _are_ there fit very well. Only real criticism is that there maybe could have been some more things to explore or find out, but 48 hour time limit and everything, so it's good that you actually got the main story done. Good Job :) |
| Dec 3 23:27:03 | 5h 25m | A Guide To Self Improvement | ♥ 0 | The Study puzzle really threw me in for a loop, good job on that one. As others have mentioned, font is too small, though that's my only real issue. Good Job getting a finished game though with the time constraints :) |
| Dec 4 13:58:20 | 14h 31m | Sacrifice by Sword | ♥ 1 | This game screams 'cool as hell' to me. I was a bit confused at first (I thought it was all online :/) but when I got into the game it all made sense. I think the actual play mode could do with a bit more work and polish (everything @dougdevs said) but Spectator mode is an awesome mode, flying around and seeing all the battles happen is cool as hell. I also really like the art, most of my criticism were covered by Doug but for a 48 hour compo this has a lot of potential. |
| Dec 4 14:18:10 | 19m 50s | TtAWwyPTBaSPSTtaUGtSYL | ♥ 1 | Before I say anything. That Name. Perfection. Even though I wasn't able to get far in the game I must say from what I saw it looks incredible. The psychedelic music, environment, art, it's all so perfect and well done. The game doesn't feel like it was made in 48 hours the presentation is _that_ good. I do have some issues with the gameplay though. It seems like you were going for a Hotline Miami feel with the game but I struggled with this game more than I feel like I ever did with Hotline Miami. The tutorial is a nice introduction to the game mechanics (by the way nice use of the theme) but then the stage that follows is unimaginably difficult to start with. Not being able to hold down the mouse to fire meant that sometimes the html window would bug out when double clicking. I understand it's _meant_ to be difficult, but the difficulty never ramped up for me, it constantly just stayed, 'hard'. But otherwise it was a really fun experience, good job :) Also Quick Bug Report: If you press reload while reloading it still takes up health |
| Dec 4 14:36:47 | 18m 37s | C'est la vie | ♥ 2 | OK. This game actually threw me in for a bit of a loop. First though, I like the design of the elephant, that's some good pixel art work, though some particles that are affected by gravity would have added to it I feel. The music is simple enough, never gets in the way and there's quite a lot of sound effects, which is great! I feel like the second game mode needs a bit more work on it. I never really felt, threatened, I only lost when I tried to see how long I could stay just above the bottom of the game. Maybe another obstacle or challenge? The first game mode however, although it was quite short and basic (not negatively), I really, really liked it. So simple and sweet with some nice meta stuff in there. I thought it would just be an easier version of the second game mode (which is why I almost ignored it) and then I started playing it and the elephant would just say "hi!" I just went "Yeah I'm done with this", but then the text started appearing, and I actually became quite absorbed by watching this little elephant walk across the fields while I was being passed subliminal messages about how worthless my petty joy is. The end was kind of out of nowhere but a nice finish. Not too keen on the second game mode but you actually had me quite hooked on the first one, thanks for making :) |
| Dec 4 23:49:06 | 9h 12m | The Unbinding | ♥ 3 | Awesome mechanic. Great humour. I really like the style of the game. The mechanic is really well polished and I didn't run into any issues with it. The levels are generally well-built and not overly complicated. Only real issues I had was that the "sacrifice" UI is a bit messy I would say and not very easy to understand at a first glance. Otherwise I really enjoyed playing this! |
| Dec 5 14:05:53 | 14h 16m | Ludum Dare Simulator | ♥ 0 | Great idea and well executed! I like the little details and the art-style is bliss. I would just say that the text muddled together for me in the review bit. Also the algorithm for calculating some of the scores seems a bit off. But I came first overall with my own LD43 game, so I'm not complaining! 135ce7662eabdf101c925a8f421fd6a0.png |
| Dec 5 22:49:49 | 8h 43m | Squad Wipe | ♥ 1 | I actually really enjoyed that. You put a great twist on the squad genre and executed it really nicely. I finished the game and enjoyed it throughout very much so. It plays almost like a puzzle game with the amount of potential planning that could potentially be needed for some levels. Main things to improve on would for one be having at least _some_ sort of music (bad but fitting music is still better than no music) and adding a bit more juice to the gameplay (more screen-shake, particles etc). Otherwise this is one of the mot fun games I've played so far in the Jam, thanks for making! :D |
| Dec 6 18:09:26 | 19h 19m | Switch Accelerator | ♥ 1 | Hi @nekonyo, For your first Compo this is a pretty neat game (I would say better than my first Compo (we don't talk about that game)). You got a finished game and are seemingly quiet proud of it which is the most important part after all! I liked the art and font choice (especially the backgrounds) though I found that mixing the pixel art with the more sleek, modern style made the overall composition a bit jarring (also, good first attempt at pixel art). The main menu music I really enjoyed also. Overall, it was a nice experience coming from someone who just started. Hope to see you next time :) |
| Dec 6 19:43:05 | 1h 33m | The Cost of Living | ♥ 2 | Made it to the end! I really liked the power-ups in the game and how you built some of the levels anticipating that the player may not actually having one of the required power-ups therefore giving them a different route. The controls were well done. I would say that the game could have done with some polish, some of the hitboxes are a bit too large and there's a pretty nasty blind jump in the second level (the one that requires the double-jump) I died a few times on that part. Otherwise I quite enjoyed playing the game, the ambient noises fit perfectly with the music and the difficulty scaled pretty well. Thanks for making :) |
| Dec 6 19:59:52 | 16m 47s | The Life of a Corporate Drone | ♥ 1 | Fun little game. Seems like a better version of my LD40 entry, as some others have pointed out I think the bars drop a tad bit too quickly and it wasn't initially obvious to me that when the bars are fully red they can't be refilled. I really liked the pixel art, for a Compo it's really nicely done. I think sound and some extra balancing is all this game needed. Thanks for making! :D |
| Dec 6 20:20:35 | 20m 43s | Perilous Passage | ♥ 1 | Simple, well executed. I found the game pretty damn tough but losing was also quite fun because of the amazing physics, also, sound effects - perfect... SIMPLY - PERFECT. |
| Dec 9 11:49:59 | 63h 29m | Aztec Defender | ♥ 1 | It's a good idea with a nice theme built around it. I think you could have done a bit more on the gameplay side of things though, by that I mean more ways of attacking the enemy and certain enemies forcing you to use different tactics. But otherwise you did a good job with the time constraints you had. Good Job :) |
| Dec 9 21:47:08 | 9h 57m | NoooooMan | ♥ 3 | Awesome game. Loved the way the jump mechanic was implemented. Simple and easy to play around with so you can come up with some interesting strategies. One of the best games I've played so far. Well Done! |
| Dec 11 14:21:33 | 40h 34m | Effigies | ♥ 1 | Really nice concept for a puzzle. The music fit really well with the art direction you took and some of puzzles were brutal. As some others have pointed out the controls felt a bit off but I still enjoyed the experience :) |
| Dec 14 17:19:30 | 74h 57m | Condom Please | ♥ 2 | Wow. I'm going to be completely honest. This is EASILY the best game I've ever played in a Ludum Dare. Without question. This game is incredible. I was enthralled by it 5 minutes in and kept playing for who knows how long. Everything from the sound effects, to the art and the gameplay in general was excellent. The world and people around you behave in ways so that in the end you actually _care_ about the task at hand. I ended up working with 2 kids and letting the rest be money farms (thank god this is a video game), I got to a good point in the game as a result. I would suggest adding a greater penalty for killing a child in the game, maybe fines or a general decrease in moral or even having children build relationships with each other. Fantastic work! I hope more people get to play this game. btw. That slap sound effect. 10/10. Sounds like I'm slapping them with a fish. |
| Dec 14 17:46:47 | 27m 17s | Sweet Suffering | ♥ 1 | I liked the sound effects, seems like you had a lot of fun making all of those. I wish best of luck in the future of this game :). A bit of polish in general for the menu designs or some of the gameplay quirks (being able to go off-screen) would have gone a long way. I can see with a bit of extra time (which you have now!) you could make a pretty fun hack n' slash, hero based game. |
| Dec 15 10:56:02 | 17h 09m | ChosenProtector | ♥ 1 | Fun game! The difficulty scaling was very well done, the game has a really good curve so the player can get used to the mechanics before tossing stuff at them. I tried hard mode and struggled quite a bit but easy seems to be a little more balanced. It's a good and well executed idea. Well done :) |
| Dec 15 11:46:25 | 50m 23s | Transit Terror | ♥ 2 | I haven't actually played many of these types of games so it's a nice breath of fresh air for me. I think the balancing is a bit off (gets too difficult too quickly) but it's manageable. The events come up a bit too quickly for me and losing resources while on the road is a bit unfair if you ask me (better to apply the resource loss after every event). But I still enjoyed playing it on concept alone. Awesome to see you here for a 4th time, don't stop now! Thank you for making :) Also I was looking through your source code see if I could assist you anywhere and I think there's some things you could apply in any future programming endeavours. - The EventPanelController script screams of classes to me. I would have created a nested class inside EventPanelController, call it something like "Event" and then you can just put any necessary variables inside of it (eventName, eventTitle, button1Active, button2Active etc.). You then put [System.Serializable] for the class, create an array or a list and then you can just make events in the editor :) ``` ``` //This is all inside EventPanelController.cs [System.Serializable] public class Event { //Stick all your variables in here } public List<Event> allEvents = new List<Event>(); ``` - You could have probably stuck all those survivor sprites into an array - To fix your bug you would just not translate the bus in general (also you forgot to * carMoveSpeed by Time.deltaTime), what you would use is a co-routine. Let me demonstrate. ``` //This is your co-routine, named RoadCycle, coroutines accept parameters IENumerator RoadCycle (float time) { //Makes the co-routine run forever while(true) { yield return new WaitForSeconds(time); //All your code goes here } } //How often new events occur public float timePerCycle; void Start() { StartCoroutine(RoadCycle(timePerCycle)); } ``` I hope this all helps :) |
| Dec 15 11:56:25 | 10m 00s | Harmonious Development | ♥ 1 | Fun little game, I quite enjoyed it :). The movement feels a bit off though since it seems to be tile-based. But I enjoyed it nonetheless and since playing have developed a well-balanced and modest life-style. |
| Dec 15 20:20:14 | 8h 23m | One Life Ain't Enough | ♥ 1 | Fun little platformer, oddly enough the first PICO-8 game I've played so far (seems like there's been a serious drop). The art and music as with most PICO-8 games was really good and everything blended together really well. Only issue I had was that the hitboxes for the enemies were quite naff and that got me killed multiple times. Otherwise, really fun! |
| Dec 16 00:13:24 | 3h 53m | Soul Reaper | ♥ 1 | This game has some of the best presentation I've seen in the Jam so far. Seriously. The UI, the particles, the snappy sound effects. All lovely. The lighting is excellent and the music fits perfectly with the game. On the visual department you did 10/10. For the gameplay, the base is definitely there but I think a bit more could have been done, more enemy types, more unique weapon upgrades etc. Just content in general; though I'm not going to be too harsh since it IS a 72 hour Jam. Don't get me wrong though, I did actually have quiet a lot of fun, mainly because it all feels so damn satisfying to play but when I finished the game I felt like the gameplay was missing _something_. But otherwise, top notch performance. Thanks for making :) |
