Woops should be fixed now, had it set to draft instead of public  Thanks for letting me know @wskilljoy !
Hi Cute Dog. I just played your game and I must say it's an awesome take on the theme. I went in a bit confused (I didn't read the description properly) trying to figure put what to do. Then I thought to myself, _"Hang on. Do I have to die on the tomb?"_ and when I catapulted myself on the tomb and it worked I just released a breath of joy, it's such a unique idea! I loved the adorable character design and his walk-cycle. There are a few other things I would like to point out though.
When I think of the concept, the first genre that comes to my head is 'Puzzle-Platformer Game', trying to figure out how and where you have to exploderise yourself. However the way the game played it felt more like it was trying to be a platformer than a puzzle. The player glides a bit too much on the ground and makes certain jumps extremely difficult. Also I found some of the levels to be built slightly odd, for example in Earth 2 when there's that mine which just blows up and there's nothing you can do about it, I don't understand why you didn't just reduce the players health before-hand. All it really does for the player is make them think that that mine is placed as part of the puzzle; if that makes any sense.
Otherwise I had a lot of fun playing this one. A really good mechanic and idea which works pretty seamlessly. Also, I like that initial message you get when you start up the game ;)
@call-me-nutty Thanks for the good feedback and kind words!
I really liked level design and mechanics. Got stuck a little on second level because I couldn't find right angle to land on tomb but that's just me and I like that idea because it keeps player wanting to get that right and spend more time playing game. Other levels are amazing and clear to understand what's going on and what you need to do. I think that you should have added background music so it don't fell empty. Overall it's fun game and great take on the theme. Great job!
Didn't get what I had to do at first, so I came here to read a bit more about the game and then I could play and I had a good moment, it was pretty fun! I would say that the characters slides too much, I can understand why the controls are hard while he's dead, but when you're alive you're not supposed to struggle this much to move haha Good job!
love the mechanic. Its actually fun to play! the controls just feel a bit weird, personaly would prefer better jump. fun levels well using the mechanic. Looking forward to next jam !
I couldn't get past the second level :frowning2: - I realise I have to jump onto the bottom mine on the right to make it send me high enough to hit the top one, but either I couldn't get it to send me high enough to hit the other one or when I could, I couldn't line it up right to get the top one to send me onto the altar.
You might also want to include a brief description in game of the goal - we don't all read the description first (I mean, we _should_, but we don't). I died a few times on the first level before I came back here, read it and realised "hang on...".
The sound effects were nice but a bit more variety would have been nice (usually when I do sound effects I make a few slightly different noises for each effect and play one at random) and some background music would have helped set the scene, but I didn't have time for any sound so I won't hold that against you.
One thing about the graphics is that it didn't seem to me like the player fit in to the world because he was the only thing with an outline.
@slashee-the-cow yeah, when making the second level I thought it was easy and a logical next step after level 1, but I have heard from several people now that they couldn't get past that level. You gotta hit the top one from the left to get to the altar, which is not super hard when you know how the mines works, but it's pretty physics based which requires more of a learning curve than I enticipated. I think I should make the mines trajectory just straight up instead, or at least restrict the physics more, would make some of the later levels more consistent/less frustrating too. And in general I'll try to make my next gamejam game a bit easier.
For explaining what to do at the start. There was supposed to be some story that gives you a hint on what to do which I scrapt last minute, so that's why there is no explanation. But I think most players can figure it out like this too.
As far as sound goes... I have almost no experience with sound and had enough trouble making these sound effects. I did have 3 sounds for the player getting hit, but since it's completely random you will still likely hear the same sound multipletimes in a row sometimes. I recorded my voice and the sounds of random objects I found laying around and slightly edited them in audacity to make sound effects, which was kinda tedious and didn't have great results, so I'll have to figure something else out there.
And for the art, yeah I agree.
Edit: I almost forgot, thanks for the good feedback! :D
I gave up on level 4 with 3 cannonballs. I got an idea how to get across, I was so close but nerves got to me. The game is so much fun, I really enjoyed it! The art, although simple is quite lovely and worked well :)
Well done and thanks for dying fun!
I also gave up on level 4 ahah, very interesting take on the theme! I had my fun!
