The art definitely looks good and very futuristic. It was quite fun to shoot the rats, too - even though it was a little hard to maneuver with the tractor. Only using fruit to kill rats and never harvest any seemed to also be the best strategy since it always netted more cash.
Oh and it took me a while to figure out how to load the fruit into the truck since the "Tractor Storage" on the bottom right looked like more of an object in game space than a UI element, so I thought all fruit I collected ended up in a box on the ground.
Pretty cool! Took me a few tries to legit beat the game, although I did "beat" it earlier than that via some bug (see pic; the danger meter filled but I was able to keep playing) - might have had something to do with me getting launched partially off the map by the plants at one point, or maybe just the enormous lag caused by too much happening. fakewin.png
Well, I was able to harvest some corn in the end, which was nice. It was very challenging to control the ship and the beam xd But it was cool that the enemies could shoot and that they took just enough hits to die.
Why did you invert the rotation btw? For added difficulty?
Amazing :o
Pretty much everything in this game feels refined and like it's been worked on for months rather than two days. I definitely had fun and enjoyed the voice lines and the cool personalities of the veggie characters haha
It was a bit frustrating to lose to a random tumbleweed when either too far left or right to be able to react to it or when I couldn't switch away from Carl at that moment - which would be fine if there were checkpoints or something, so you wouldn't have to start from the very beginning again. Or if you had more than one life :p
But, anyways, since the game was so cool and awesome I didn't actually mind all that much.
Oh yeah, and upon losing the sound kinda crashed, till you restarted.
Nice little game, I liked how chill it was. I've used some of these assets for a Godot platformer too :p They're really nice.
The controls confused me a little cause I didn't read the description, but I found the right keys anyway and finished the game.
I loved the title screen and the generally retro atmosphere. The game was also a lot more engaging than most other entries - fun levels, obvious goals that were challenging enough and obvious means to achieve those goals. I def had fun :)
The lighting mechanic was really interesting. For me it was quite unresponsive though, as there was more than a half second delay between pressing a key and it having an effect. Prob would have enjoyed playing a Windows build more.
Idk why everyone's saying they couldn't play. Sure, the web build doesn't work, but the Windows build right underneath it does.
In general it looked mighty amazing. My fav part was the menu screen and the different cool ways you had to interact with it. The fellow alien's comments through the comms were nice, too.
I completed the easy and medium modes. Besides having a different amount of things to "harvest" the difficulty didn't seem to change.
The enemies seemed to eventually gather to one specific point and posed virtually no danger - though at the start I did lose to them because I thought the red things on the map indicated nearby animals. Speaking of which, I found it really difficult to find them. There were people everywhere, but not many animals. They seemed especially scarce in the easy mode, which made it feel much more difficult than medium.
Oh, and what was the cloak thing for? 🤔 It didn't seem to do anything
Edit: Ohh, it makes it so you can fly over enemies, that makes sense pic1.png
Unfortunately I'm not sure how to get it to fully work, but at least I was able to see some blurry plants growing and dying.
Wow this game was way too hard for me xd
I do agree the scythe was an interesting mechanic, def takes some getting used to
While as you say it's not finished and not a complete game, it's fun to play with. I spent way too much time on it lol, got to pretty large circles too.
I couldn't get it to work using the linked emulator, but I downloaded mGBA and it worked there.
It was fun and I really liked how casual it was - a nice break from the other more hardcore games. But at one point it just glitched out. After the level where you have to drop down from a high point the character just kept falling endlessly on a checkered screen.
Also, it's ratable in Audio but there is no audio..?
Wow.
Took me a minute to understand all the mechanics. But, it was really fun and well polished. Seems like the perfect compo game.
Oh I guess there is one thing I could mention that might be an improvement - I was left wishing I could reverse in a number of situations.
I actually had quite a bit of fun with this trying to figure out a strategy to lose the critters. And I did get to the cactus in the end - although at first I had no idea where to go, until I came across a signpost. It was definitely an adventure.
I liked the mood as well, reminded me of RS3. The camera was a bit janky tho.
And, I appreciate the simple controls and instructions.
Easy to understand, a pretty fun challenge and it was nice to have scores to aim for. I got a "good" score on my second try :D
Really cool! I finished the whole adventure, it took quite a while. Nice progression with new abilities effectively replacing previous more finnicky ones.
Loved the smooth textures and the soothing rain sounds. Would have liked to hear getting hit, too. At first I thought the first blue ghost was a friendly cause nothing seemed to happen when I ran into him. I only later noticed my health was affected.
Bumping against the ceiling was pretty frustrating at times :p
Also, the camera didn't move to the next area properly if you turned around right at the edge of the screen.
Scariest game of those that were supposed to be scary that I've seen so far. I liked that it was pretty self-explanatory and I was never left wondering what I had to do.
The first time around I completed all the tasks except finding the monkey thing. I had no idea you could find them in graves and just kept looking around the map. I had only dug up one grave and that just spawned a ghost so I figured I shouldn't do any more of that than is necessary.
Some ghosts just came from outside the map through the walls. That felt pretty unfair, because like I was running from the ghosts, got far enough to where they wouldn't chase me, I turned towards them and thought I had them all in view so I was safe, and then suddenly out of nowhere there was a ghost on top of me and I lost a life. Maybe it was supposed to add to it being scary?
Oh also, what was the idea behind the movement? It felt like you were on a scooter?
Well xd
I also like the art style
Too bad you didn't have time to put more content in
Nice bit of emotion there :) I love games like this where you have a proper meaningful storyline. The art is wonderful, too. Could make something great out of this if you take it further.
Well, first of all, I love the music and art here. It really gives the impression of a complete game.
The controls seem very innovative and for me personally a bit too complicated. For example, you can't turn around on the spot, so if you're right on top of a flame, then to harvest or plant it you need to move two steps away and one back - so, often you will need to drop down a ledge in the process - which is kinda wild.
It also took a little while to figure out what I had to do, which wasn't helped by the slightly hard-to-read font. I did manage to finish in the end after trying to get to the door a few times but failing to reach it in time cause I didn't have a good enough grasp of the controls.
Overall an impressive effort for sure.
Great aesthetics, love the startup sequence!
Took me a long time to understand what I was supposed to do and how I was supposed to do it. Once I figured the intricacies of how exactly the typed words work and noticed there was a little tree that acted like a checkpoint I was finally able to complete the game.
That was a nice experience, thank you for the game!
The mood I feel is the best part of it, stuff fits really well together and creates an impression of a complete game world.
I liked that it had a rather chill difficulty and didn't take a long time to play through. What was mostly slowing me down was not knowing what would kill me and what wouldn't. There were areas of different color that didn't look dangerous but killed me anyway. On one screen there seemed to be multiple paths to advance, or at least I couldn't tell which was the correct one. I picked one and it just killed me, which felt a little unfair.
I also got stuck sometimes like @cobaltjt. It happened when I stopped at a sharp turn and tried to start moving again.
The music was pretty nice, and so were the graphics for the computer parts.
Harvesting took so long I was almost sure pressing space had no effect as I had no idea you had to even hold it down. It was cool that controller buttons were mentioned but I would have liked to have also known the keyboard version of B, which as it turns out was Esc.
Nice to see a different approach. I got to both endings :)
The instructions might not have been too elaborate, but I got going pretty quickly - I'd say there was relatively little confusion as to what I need to do compared to other games.
The cell with the person in it got me thinking when it said the scanner can confirm there isn't a person in there but at the same time it destroys whatever is in there. I couldn't figure out how it would make sense for something like that to exist in a reality xd
Okay that was fun lol. I got over 7k :D
More a fun widget than a game atm ig. Would be nice to have some targets to aim towards or a leaderboard or levels or sth.
But still I very much loved the special nature of this submission, thank you!
I really liked this one! Probably helps that I play poker xd
It wasn't too difficult, but it was still really fun to try and get a better score
Okay firstly - amazing. Love the style and the music. I was sad music stopped every time a new level was loaded though, I wanted it to keep going xd
And the puzzles were fun. I liked the part where it first hinted at that you didn't need to collect everything in the level to advance. At the end it was a bit confusing to just be left alone in the void but I guess that was what was supposed to happen.
I got stuck in Dimension 2 between the blocks as the timer also stopped. Also, it seemed like once you fail to reach the blobs in time for the first hit, the level is no longer winnable - but from that point you still need to wait for the timer to run out.
Well, I tried to play it in Unity. A couple of script references were missing, but otherwise it worked. I somehow won. Not sure what was going on. A circle kept forming and it seemed like you just had to click once every time it got complete. pic1.png pic2.png
I definitely loved the look of this game. The models look superb and the ghosts are funny xd
Would have loved to have some win condition to aim towards. Surviving in general didn't seem to be too much of a problem since the ghosts would overlap and bunch up so they would just form a trail behind you.
Also I was confused in the beginning about how to plant stuff. I guess you need to go plant twice for each item? It was just that the first time when you clicked a planting spot the planting animation played but there was no indication of anything having changed at the plant spot, so it gave the impression that the action had failed.
Took me a while to understand what I was supposed to do, but I did manage to make some burgers in the end! I liked the music and that there were running tooltips that were sometimes pretty amusing too :)
Pretty nice, I like that it's fast-paced and doesn't take long to play
Leaderboards are always cool to have
Maybe I would have personally preferred for it not to be so luck-based xd but then again there's people who like exactly that
Really cool concept, love it! Very original for sure 🙂
I got to 7 points. The buttons felt a bit unresponsive sometimes.
@simsax Thank you! I love pixel art :3 but it was the first time I made some so it took a while
@scilly-guy tysm ^^ yeah I wanted to keep it simple for my first jam since I figured if I went for sth complicated I might not be able to finish it
@horda Aww xd I tried to make it winnable but not too easy to beat. I was able to win like half the time myself. But I also have a pretty good mouse...
With the graphics I tried my best to mimic the style of the NES ^^ along with all its limitations, that's why there are simple obv repeating textures with a simple palette.
@greynovembergames Glad you enjoyed!
@caranha Ooh thanks a lot for the feedback! How many apples are left is random, but yeah I agree there should be a way to at least reset the game if you know you're not doing well. I was thinking of increasing the size of the collider, and would probably have done that if there was more time. I would have needed to add a separate collider for that, though, because the current one was also used for collisions between apples on the ground.
It is surprising that people are finding the game rather difficult. I suspect the difficulty might still vary between diff computers somehow, despite the hotfix. Dunno why that would be though.
@simsax @horda @greynovembergames @caranha Ahh you guys were right, it WAS too hard - game parameters were not being reset and so it was only possible to win on the first try. I pushed another quick fix.
So dw you're not bad hahah I just forgot to write a couple of important lines.
@caranha But I do believe what you said about the difficulty. Guess you should always make it a little too easy for yourself.
@fnelix haha thank you, glad it was your type of game xd
@kenneth-dd oh wow, so it worked and you made it :D good job, I think you're the first one to report having beat it
@xdefault thank uuuu, yeah most of my time was spent on the intro, like 85% lol
@noobman64 hahah, thanks so much!
@passbykamenrider <3 yesss glad you liked the pixels, I love them too. I'll make an easier game next time xd
@bentglasstube 32:9 😅 I'd like to think I wasn't the only one caught out by that among games you reviewed. Yup, it definitely doesn't scale to all resolutions. Maybe next time I'll have more time left over so I can work on it.
@googlypoo Glad to hear you liked it 😄 I also felt like it would have been nice to be told your score after the time runs out, that would have likely been the next thing I'd have added.
@pazzi Ayy great job 🥳 Hmm, maybe it would actually work better as a drawing screen game
@matank Tysm for playing!
@commanderstitch Aww that so nice to hear <3
No HeartHarvest anywhere to be found on that itch.io page, though I did play the other game on there and got to the big ascent with lots of green buttons where I decided there were too few checkpoints for me to continue
Very interesting xd I thought it was quite a funny concept.
The start was slightly confusing, I didn't know you could get burgers from the trash etc, but overall the game was easy to understand.
After victory the burgers-left counter was stuck at 1.
Amazing game, unbeatable humor. Really enjoyed it, thank you!
Took a while to figure out a good strategy, so I had a good deal of fun with it. Kudos!
