LD45 — Start with nothing

Slay the Dungeon by jharler 2019-10-09T13:20:54Z

I enjoyed your Binding of Spires! Your voice acting was very funny for the characters. Solid enemy designs, I felt bad killing the slugs, they couldn't hurt a fly. Cool concept, nice blend of some fun titles. Great job!

Ultra Quest by 100th_Coin 2019-10-08T01:28:44Z

I am going to need that epic loot to pay the fine for starting that forest fire. That change to the world map had me laughing out loud. Really polished. You came in with a plan and executed. Great job.

N O T H I N G by revx 2019-10-08T06:39:03Z

I enjoyed solving the riddles. The writing was good. I made it as far as the punchy guard. Good job!

Three Little Pigs by Anne Ogborn 2019-10-09T13:30:57Z

Made it to 19 max houses. That was fun. some lag issues and the music was a little painful with my headphones. However there was a lot to like. Drawing is fun. I thought it was funny that wolf set off dynamite instead of blowing the houses down. Good job.

Bereshit by p-r 2019-10-09T13:13:45Z

I wasn't sure I was doing the right thing, but it felt good doing it. Enjoyed the screen shake and the feeling of power as I blew stuff up. Some nice effects in there too. Thanks for the game.

Crystallian by Untitled Studios 2019-10-08T03:19:48Z

Using Red, Green, and Blue made it really easy to cycle through my tools quickly and get on with what I needed to do. So I think the UI/design is the strongest part of the game. Good job.

Celia's Lightmare by Aj Jones 2019-10-10T05:54:16Z

Atmospheric; the music and SFX did a great job here of complementing decent visuals and a constrained palette. I think this was effective. Controls felt good for kiting the monsters. The ramp up in difficulty was rather steep moving between levels. That is only a minor point. Great job, crew!

Clean sh*t by Styleshit 2019-10-09T13:09:55Z

Keen to try your game, but you need to provide the published game link and not the edit link from itch :)

Awoken by JammedGame 2019-10-10T00:46:51Z

I enjoyed this. The art style was applied consistently and looked good. I got into the industrial/dread musical score. Controls and kiting felt good. I liked the writing/foretelling for later affects. The jam's theme was applied nicely (no sight at the start). It also set up the later modifications (lungs etc). Nice job :)

Revolutionaries and Pixels by Hare Software 2019-10-09T06:48:46Z

Damn! Huge scope for a jam game. Looks like you pulled it off. I had fun assembling my rag-tag team. John Jackson quickly emerged as my most dependable warrior. He would eventually be taken down by the King's Men. It will not have been in vain...

A lot of fun, good job.

Starboard: The Pirate Entrepreneur by FlashViper 2019-10-08T03:03:47Z

Avast ye! A quality submission for LD. A good challenge. Great execution in the available time. Seriously impressive. Good job.

Runed Memory by ComicSans 2019-10-08T02:41:47Z

The combinations are a cool touch - most funw as going hard as the Rocket Wizard. The main menu gave me Mount & Blade vibes which is always good. Lots of effects, and the game title is clever. Good job!

Into the Stars by Vanea 2019-10-08T03:01:23Z

Those chiptunes were a standout. Big NES vibes in all the right ways. Nice job.

Ravenous by berumondo 2019-10-08T10:43:28Z

Who hasn't had that nightmare of being chased? Thanks for bringing that sensation to life. I enjoyed the challenge of running, without typing to ditch the leeches. Solid effort. Good work!

Paint a Solar System by Jayometric 2019-10-08T02:05:42Z

I had fun hoovering up the space dust, hoping to create a larger sun. Suddenly the 3D planets appeared, and I painted up the Earth and Jupiter. Good stuff.

Soulless by Nithin 2019-10-08T02:49:24Z

This is a great concept for the theme of this jam! Wish I'd thought of it. The audio complements the graphics. In all, this is packaged nicely and well done. The minimalist aesthetic just suits a cube who has lost their soul. Poor cube.

Medieval Mayhem by itsTripp 2019-10-08T03:45:23Z

I think the combination of lighting and sound nailed the mood for the game. As promised, I got to dispatch with skeletons and two-headed pooches. You pulled it together and still produced a working game. I hope you had fun doing so. Good job!

Oh Dam! by Adam Konig 2019-10-08T02:35:52Z

That music is going to be stuck in my head for a while! Cute low-poly graphics. Different strategies to try for saving the beavers. In all, a cool concept, well executed, and some fun to play! Good job!

Nought - Procedurally Generated Dungeon by sacredbacon 2019-10-08T02:51:59Z

Whoa that ramped up quickly. The dungeon generator itself is always my favourite part of making these games. Yours turned out nicely, as did the rest of the game. Nice job!

Monolith by Kalucifer 2019-10-08T03:34:39Z

Hangs on the unity splash screen (Windows). Screenshots look great, will come back later to try again.

Nun in the Chamber by BrokenMirrorMedia 2019-10-08T02:56:50Z

Smooth movement. Good graphics and lighting effects. Game name is hillarious. Suits the theme well, you truly did start with nunthing. Realaly well done.

Knight of Redemption by Yeomsley 2019-10-08T01:41:08Z

Held space, became berserker. Good variety of enemies. I always appreciate seeing damage reflected on the character, not just in a health bar. Well done.

Yin-Yang by Keith Wang 2019-10-08T01:48:13Z

The black and white design constraint was a smart move; more time for gameplay and polish, which was abundant. Fun to play and I managed to win. Great job.

Celestial Mechanics by Pierre Feuille Studio 2019-10-08T06:50:28Z

The physics on the player controller really supported the sense of scale you're going for with these celestial bodies. The background music also complemented this.

Running by WelshDivision 2019-10-08T06:31:40Z

I did a number of attempts. Personal best time of 10.2s.

Empty Stomach, Empty Toilet by Idontknow 2019-10-08T02:44:58Z

If only raisins helped me move that fast. Or my apartment was that big. Funny concept. Good job!

Top Dog by Seth Marx 2019-10-08T03:27:48Z

Top dogs indeed! Now I am hungry. Great character design and artwork. I enjoyed the music and left it playing while I did some other tasks. Lots of nice little touches here. Your team has made something cool here! Well done.

Thanks @jayometric! My first reviewer. Glad it made sense in the end. Thank you for playing. Now to review your game

The comments are coming thick and fast!! Thanks everyone. Some replies:

@adam-konig: Thank you for digging the vision and atmosphere. I didn't have the full 3 days for the jam; definitely more sprites.

@adam-gaskins: I feel the same way. I had another 10 tutorial exercises (and terrible puns) drafted to include. Soon!

@zissou: I could have spent longer on the physics, for sure. Thank you for testing this out for me.

@idontknow: I spent so long making this responsive, and completely forgot to set a standard font-size. Poor form for a CSS game! Thank you for playing.

@pinosaur: Once I learn those skills :) Next LD!

@sacredbacon: Seriously considering expanding on this, thanks to feedback like yours. Thanks.

@brokenmirrormedia: Glad you dig the vision! Yes the run animation bugs out against the walls. It's on my list of bug fixes, thanks for pointing it out.

@vanea: Thank you!!!

@flashviper: It is hacking. And coding is modern-day wizardry. Just make the right incantation, and you can create anything you can imagine.

Feeling really encouraged to keep going with this learning tool concept. Thanks everyone!!! Now to check out all your games.

@keith-wang Sure does! I can't think of any either. This was fun to make as a proof-of-concept. So much left to explore (changing inner content, animations for moving platforms, etc). Thanks for playing.

@bubblewandgames: thank you!

@seth-marx: Glad you enjoyed my writing! Mirror's Edge is right on for comparing the settings. Thanks for playing.

@adamcyounis It was great to watch you play the game on your stream today. I really valued the honest review, and appreciate the praise now. My take on "start from nothing" was with regards to a player's CSS skills (i.e. not needing any). I need to make more levels for this, there is so much to explore with CSS as a mechanic.

@yeomsley I am seriously considering it. The feedback from you all is very encouraging!

@afroant: you get the vision, rock on. There is a lot of places to take this concept. You raise a good point; like you have a "comedian's comedian", this might be a "game developer's game", if that makes sense. I do need a way to keep people updated on where I take this. Thanks for playing, and for your kind words!

@hare-software: glad the game and message struck a chord. Think I'll keep developing this idea. Will you do the same for your revolutionaries game? Thanks for playing :

Stylemancer by mattdotam 2019-10-10T00:50:57Z

@jharler: all feedback welcomed, letting me know about glitches is welcomed. Thank you for playing, glad you liked the concept.

@nachtwitch: oh yes, the work has just begun, glad you liked this first effort. Thanks for playing!

@danferb: yep I know exactly what that bug is, but in the spirit of LDjam I won't fix it in this version. Thank you for your kind words and feedback.

@alexsogge: it's an easter egg if easter egg is another word for a bug ;)

@neon-glass: fantastic. I will continue developing this. I need to pick a medium for a devlog. Thinking twitch and twitter?

@kalucifer: such kind words, my sincere thanks, you all made my morning down here in Aus. I need to implement %s, along with em, rem... Please do follow up. Best way will be via twitter, same username @mattdotam

After scrapping by Alexsogge 2019-10-08T10:51:50Z

A robot, doing the worm. I got a laugh from that. Movement and camera detracted from the experience some. I liked the console/logs to start the game.
