LD38 — A Small World

Contamination by schizoid2k 2017-05-04T12:13:25Z

Overall, this was a fun, challenging game! It really fit the theme of Ludum Dare 38, and it was an interesting take on the twin-stick shooter genre.

I wish I had known how to interact with the power-ups the 1st time 'round, though. Also, I know it's been said before, but some of the sounds in the game were just a bit too loud. My sensitive ears would have appreciated lower volume sneezing.

Cathode Way by garethiw 2017-05-03T15:56:08Z

I think previous commenters have said it all already. This game is brilliant and worthy of the highest praise!

Dwelling by aeveis 2017-05-03T16:09:13Z

The music and art direction really helped set the mood for the game. It was also interesting to see crying implemented as a self-sacrificing, life-giving mechanic. Overall, I really enjoyed it.

One issue I noticed (which may have already been fixed in the post-compo version) was that holding down the crying button appears to be more "life efficient" than tapping the crying button repeatedly. Not sure if this behavior is intentional or not.

Ant Runner by unit684 2017-05-03T18:45:02Z

This was pretty fun! It certainly fit the theme well, and the procedural content generation kept each playthrough quite fresh.

As others have said, the enemies weren't much of a challenge after I discovered that you could just mash the attack button to achieve perpetual safety. The biggest obstacle in the game proved to be timing jumps as the ant cannot stay airborne for very long.

kumo. by Turbo Hermit 2017-05-01T12:53:42Z

This game is super relaxing!

Thank you very much for the feedback @jones! I've added some instructions above in response. :)

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Disintegrate by zenmumbler 2017-12-06T05:12:09Z

This game had a great atmosphere! I definitely felt a strange sense of urgency to complete the puzzles as quickly as possible while playing.

Randomly Relentless Rumble by Frederika 2017-12-06T05:43:45Z

This game was very interesting! I've never really played anything like it.

(As an aside, I think the LD submission page could do with a screenshot from your game.)

A Boy and His Card by sorlok 2017-12-05T04:22:54Z

Well, I may have been hopelessly in debt, but my attack stat sure was enviable. It turned out great!

Lampauttaja by Jani 2017-12-04T19:45:08Z

This game is awesome! Making those sheep turn corners without falling off the map turned out to be tougher than avoiding the obstacles haha

Dodge X by cogcomp 2017-12-04T23:10:28Z

I tried playing the game without a nice graphics card! The game was still playable, technically, but the strategies I could employ were quite limited (i.e. stay far away from the MMM and whittle away its health)

FPS: 9-10 RAM: 16 GB Graphics Card: Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB

Fluffy Space Escape by potatolain 2017-12-05T04:40:39Z

This is the first ROM submission I've seen for a game jam. Amazing!!

Business Value: Going Agile by Matthew Traylor 2017-12-06T05:32:14Z

This game was quite challenging and an interesting take on the theme!

It felt like the jumping was calibrated more for squashing bugs than platforming. Rather than this being a problem, it made it quite satisfying when a piece of code was finally shipped.

#realfeel by lot9s 2017-12-04T19:47:47Z

@sorlock Now you can play #realfeel any time you like!

#realfeel by lot9s 2017-12-04T23:45:35Z

@marc-jones Thanks for letting me know! During development, I struggled a bit with the ground's hit boxes. If I get the time, I will try to tweak it. :)

#realfeel by lot9s 2017-12-04T23:46:29Z

@corc0 I have never come across that particular bug! Thank you for bringing it to my attention. That behavior is definitely not intentional. If I get the time, I will try to remove it from the game.

#realfeel by lot9s 2017-12-06T14:59:31Z

@moeshan Thank you for your feedback! I was not aware of (1). I shall add it to the list of bugs to squash post-LD40. (2) and (3) were intentional, but I have now gotten feedback about not being able to attack to the right that I may just add it to the game. With respect to (4), I quite agree with you. Levels could be more interesting if they took advantage of vertical space more. However, I was trying out a lot of new things with this game, and I ran out of time while trying to eliminate collision bugs. Thanks again for the feedback! Hopefully, the polished version of the gam will be better. :)

@nodine I'm afraid that the behavior you are referring to is not intentional. Rather, it's a bug I noticed during development but never bothered to write down haha. Thanks for bringing it back to my attention!

#realfeel by lot9s 2017-12-20T15:14:20Z

@jjjjason Actually, I had never heard of Eversion until now. Thanks for mentioning it! I will definitely check it out for inspiration on how to polish the game further.

The explorer by Stepan Shabalin 2017-12-05T01:50:52Z

For some reason, the game doesn't load in my browser when I click on the HTML5 link. (I'm using Google Chrome v62.) I would love to give this game a go!

Jonny; Life of a Procrastinator by Call_me_Nutty 2017-12-04T18:50:41Z

It would be nice if the junk food icons indicated what effects they have on the player. The effects were buried in a menu on the computer.

Lose weight by kingswind 2017-12-05T01:06:51Z

This game is great fun! I really like how it riffs on the theme. In my opinion, a fitting background audio track would make the game perfect.

As The Crow Flies by BarDunBar 2017-12-05T05:16:00Z

This game was super relaxing. Without realizing it, half an hour went by while I was absorbed with the game haha

The Last Minutes by Togimaro 2019-05-01T22:53:55Z

I loved this game. It left me wanting more!!

Money Cabin by Tero Pulkkinen 2019-04-30T04:34:03Z

I definitely felt like I was experiencing a work of art.

P(l)ay with your life by godsboss 2019-05-01T03:11:20Z

A very satisfying game

Ticker Clicker Defence by smiley 2019-04-30T04:54:40Z

I had to pull myself away!! I would have spent the whole night playing this game, otherwise. The game, in my eyes, is perfect except for two minor issues: (1) as mentioned above, the intro text takes too long to scroll away and (2) the background music never changes.

What Death Has in Store by lot9s 2019-04-29T20:33:28Z

@daria-toni Thank you for the feedback! I will try to communicate better with players going forward.

What Death Has in Store by lot9s 2019-04-30T03:18:39Z

@jasond A lot of what's going on is communicated in the description of the game. That said, I could have done a better job of highlighting the '[Store]' button when it appears. When you win the first time, you can click on the [Store] to spend your life points.

What Death Has in Store by lot9s 2019-04-30T22:27:07Z

@shaolin-dave Sorry that the game froze! I didn't encounter that bug in my play tests, and would love to be able to re-create it for debugging purposes. Would you mind sharing which browser you used to play the game? Also, did you make your RPS selections quickly?

@hutchings90 Would you suggest that I update the description to address navigation issues? I'd be happy to do it --- just need to know what information would be useful to post.

@calzep Congratulations! Originally, I planned to have a whole bunch of mini-games to play against Death, but one mini-game was all I could manage in the time I had to set aside for the LD Jam last weekend.

What Death Has in Store by lot9s 2019-05-01T15:39:09Z

@squirmonkey I'm afraid that was just a bout of bad luck. Winning is certainly possible.

What Death Has in Store by lot9s 2019-05-01T21:27:21Z

@dimoon-ly That's odd behavior. Could you please describe what happened in greater detail? Clicking on scissor shouldn't short circuit the player to the win condition...

Bankrupt by Desire by JOZGames 2019-04-30T04:20:11Z

For some reason, the keyboard controls weren't working for me. (If it helps for debugging purposes, I ran the game in the desktop version of Google Chrome.)

Moon Miner by FROG5TAR 2019-05-01T03:16:32Z

I tried to play the web-based version of the game but couldn't. When I checked the web console, I noticed several errors like the following: "Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404".

LastSwap by EdevJogos 2019-04-30T03:15:01Z

This was fun! It took a bit before I could produce combos quickly enough to fight back against the weaves of enemies. My one suggestion would be to adjust the size of the canvas a bit. Perhaps, adjust it dynamically to the screen size? I had to zoom out a bit for the canvas to fit on my screen.

Twitchlings by DocFallout 2019-04-30T04:24:30Z

This is super innovative! I'll probably keep playing this well after the LD44 has officially ended.

Labour Micro by Luther-1 2019-05-01T18:49:05Z

I couldn't get past the tutorial on the HTML5 build, either. Right-clicking didn't seem to do anything. If it helps with debugging, I was using the desktop version of Google Chrome to play the game.

CybeGypt by Kot153 2019-05-01T03:29:06Z

It was a neat little game, but the audio actually hurt my ears.

The Money Hole by miu 2019-05-01T03:39:31Z

Given that you made this in 12 hours, I'd say it's pretty great! I would have loved to see what you came up with if you had had more time.

Where Is My Liver by NyanDev 2019-04-30T02:40:05Z

I really enjoyed this game! It might have been cool if the new liver were of greater importance to the game than the end goal.

Merchants by ldjsq 2019-04-30T03:59:59Z

The ice made travel super tough!!

Some issues I observed: (1) Is there a difficulty mode besides 'Hard' in the web version? I tried clicking on what seemed like a drop down menu, but no options appeared. (2) The volume of the audio in the game is very, very low. I could barely hear it when I turned the volume to max on my machine.

Boil Them by Sbug 2019-04-30T04:16:52Z

I love this game! I found myself playing long after I ran out of new upgrades :)

Ice Heart by TractorFarm 2019-04-30T02:51:17Z

I agree with the previous commenters --- The movement is a bit weird, and I very much would have liked to move in directions besides forward.

NecroBlood by Little Valhalla 2019-04-30T02:17:19Z

The look & feel of the game is stellar! NecroBlood suits the theme really well too.

For me, the experience could have been improved if there were a stated goal or a wave count in-game (i.e. "Wave 32 incoming"). That way, I would have had a feeling of accomplishment as I continued playing. Also, this is a minor point, but the blood meter seemed to go beyond the screen bounds quite frequently during my playthrough. Maybe it would have been better if the meter were more numerical than graphical?

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Falling Into Dreams by sorlok 2021-04-26T21:32:21Z

This game has great atmosphere!

Deep Bomb Galactic! by Gale-swift 2021-04-26T22:26:19Z

Super fun game! One thing I noticed that was a little game-breaking is that you can drop bombs in the short time between the end of a level and the start of a level. If this is not desired, it may be worth disabling bomb drops between levels.

Dimidium Angelus by Double Top 2021-04-27T13:57:21Z

This little RPG was awesome! Thanks for submitting it. :)

I have no idea what I'm doing, but it won't stop me by limbo 2021-04-26T23:40:13Z

Not bad! Give yourself some more credit for a job well done. :)

Anchors & Miners by Yolwoocle 2021-04-26T23:59:12Z

I love this game! It really fits the theme. I noticed that the link to the game is labeled "Source", but I didn't see any source code on the linked page --- just the game. Am I missing something?

What Lies Below by Cheese Team 2021-04-27T00:07:13Z

Nice job! I found myself wishing that progression were a liiittle bit faster, though.

Deepjikstra by cuoshen 2021-04-26T22:05:01Z

Spooky! For some reason, I wasn't able to get the game to run a second time. I would've liked to play it again to try to get through the maze.

Deepjikstra by cuoshen 2021-04-26T22:49:45Z

@cuoshen Yep.

3 Minutes Deep by 7Seven Studios 2021-04-26T22:16:49Z

Great game! I played it more than once. :) Not sure if it was intentional, but the menu / intro text were cut off on the left and right side of the game window in the web-based version of the game.
