i don't understand how to survive more than 30 second lol

iguanana 2022-04-04 00:31

This is a really neat idea, and I love the art and music. It took me a little bit to be able to figure out what was going on, but I like it overall!

nicmagnier 2022-04-04 06:43

Great game! There is some nice strategies on how to place the blocks to keep the playfield clean and low and a good tension since you don't want the bull to break the items.

tellyhead 2022-04-04 09:50

Never seen a game with this concept so great job, love the art style too, I have a small keyboard that doesn't have arrow keys so had to get a bit creative with the controls

squaxcom 2022-04-04 10:58

I've been playing for like half an hour trying to get gud lol, very well executed concept.

redsti 2022-04-04 17:38

nice game

mrchickenboy 2022-04-04 17:39

Nice game! I think I broke it though, everything slowed down lol. I had fun though!

pdotjpg 2022-04-04 17:58

This is excellent, probably the most fleshed-out, well-designed entry I've played so far. Really solid and intuitive design, and a cool marriage of theme and gameplay - bull in a China shop has a lot of flavour. This isn't my genre of game, so I didn't spend a lot of time on it, but I can totally see how others (like the person above me) can get sucked into this and really try to master it. Great work.

caudatecoder 2022-04-04 20:59

Very clever take on the theme, very well executed! Took me a while to learn how to play but once I did it really clicked! Maybe a small tutorial could help (not asking it from a 48h game though)

Great visuals, sfx and setting. Solid entry!

I was recording my playthrough of your game so here’s a link in case you’d like to see it https://youtu.be/gFusdrtgKRk (sorry for low quality, youtube didn’t like my recording for some reason; I’ll re-process it and re-upload later) Your game starts at 42:26

Great game!

The gameplay is innovative and pushes you to make fast and interesting decisions. My first game was a bit random but the second one was really fun. Art is simple and readable, sounds too.

Thanks for the game I had fun 💌

thatrandomprogrammer 2022-04-04 22:55

I like the creativity and game mechanics. It's also really fun!

mascoll 2022-04-05 01:43

Super cool game! Graphics eminds me of a combination of game-and-watch and gameboy! Took me a little to understand to combine the china as the broken sprite where similar to what happened to them when the bull got to them. But when I had that figured I got hooked. :D

moonblast 2022-04-05 06:51

Very fun and humorous game to play! At first glance it looks like Tetris but the experience is so different, the mechanics are very creative, and the theme is a good read.

johjoh 2022-04-05 07:29

The gamefeel was perfect, you nailed it. Gameplay was pretty fun after getting the hang of it.

edwigelel 2022-04-05 09:00

Very nice! Well done :)

paperaeroplane555 2022-04-05 13:52

really clean game! the mechanics are creative and well executed, and i really love the art and sound effects. maybe if i wasnt dumb i could try and strategise because its suprisingly hard haha, especially with the rule that the space below the drop area has to be completely empty. overall its a really solid entry. nice :>

sapazu 2022-04-05 19:52

Amazing game! Felt bit confusing at first, but I got hang of it. Amazing art and gameplay, I really like this!

wuppos 2022-04-06 01:23

This was great! The rules text is a bit overwhelming, but once you start playing and look back at the rules a couple of times it is actually not that bad. It was a lot of fun! Kind of tetris, combined with bejeweled, combined with some ox that is breaking stuff. I thought it was very clever that you added the mechanic of two neighbouring pots of the same type disappearing. This really added a whole other level of tactics to the game. At some point one of my pots was in danger of being broken by the ox, but I was able to save it by matching it with another of the same pot. I felt really clever :D

The only real feedback I have is on the initial struggle to get started. If there was an in-game tutorial this would have been a lot more smooth I think. Of course, it is already very impressive that you made all this in 48 hours, and can completely understand you did not have the time to make a tutorial as well :P

Thanks a lot for making this game! It was a lot of fun and very unique!

huga 2022-04-06 02:30

Really interesting idea and a simple but fitting art style.

agent-peterson 2022-04-06 03:44

what a cozy game! the art is so simple yet it feels like a polished thing, I love the music it fits so well, I wish there was just a bit of randomization for the sound effects so it doesnt get too noticeable. I wonder if this can be greatly enhanced with more features!

lesinvisible 2022-04-06 13:05

Wow, a very interesting take on the tetris, at least, I haven't seen anything like this before. Very nice graphics, you really managed to put some Gameboy feel into it.

ismael-rodriguez 2022-04-06 19:57

Great job! Looks good, sounds good (deceptively catchy tunes), Very innovative!

The only nit-pick I have; The shape and color of the objects getting squished while dropping introduces some confusion because the urn and the teapot look a little too similar and makes me thing they can match, but they don't. Maybe the plates should also be purple?

Unsolicited Ideas: Would be cool to see some kind of power ups. Clear all your china, put the bull to sleep, maybe even something that makes it go into rage mode!

Anyway, great job overall!!!!

badpiggy 2022-04-08 17:18

Really great concept you have here. My high score was 20. Died with like 18 seconds left lol. This is actually a great twist on tetris with something else providing urgency besides just trying to match blocks before you reach the top. This may not really be an issue, but sometimes I was pressing down and the piece didn't move. I realised that this was because it was an illegal move, but maybe some sort of sound or visual indicator to show that you can't lower the piece depending on what's below you would be cool. Apart from that though, this is a very cool and unique twist on tetris. The art was great and the music and sfx present were honestly damn catchy. Amazing entry

jonah-srg 2022-04-08 17:58

Thanks so much for playing, y'all! Appreciate all the kind words and feedback, and I'll definitely be returning to this prototype to tie up the loose ends.

@mrchickenboy Sorry about that, I think it's an issue when playing in browser only. I hadn't experienced it on this game in my tests, but if you're not using Firefox give that a go. If you are and it's still slowing down, the Windows build should be free of the issue.

@caudatecoder Thanks so much for sharing the video, and glad you enjoyed it!

@mascoll Noted on the breaking animation. I think I had intended on altering the sprites so that it was more obvious whether the player lost a hit, but it got away from me at some point. Definitely will fix that for a future build.

@ismael-rodriguez Definitely agree on those suggestions for updating the sprites. There's a lot that irks me about them now: the color coding, the outlines or lack thereof, and the silhouettes of the pieces inside the cursor being way off. Those are on the list to fix as well. I had a power-up idea that was left on the cutting room floor: A UFO that would lift the bull up and away. Love the idea for a rage mode item.

@badpiggy Definitely had plans to have at least play a sound effect for the "fail to drop" situation. But then, you know how it goes with jams. That's an easy one I'll definitely be fixing. The whole reason there's a "no play zone" is because I didn't bother making a system to check for an exact fit based on the rotation of the piece. There is almost definitely a way to implement this that isn't that hard or time consuming. It's but another corner cut to post by the deadline.

alexio-games 2022-04-09 02:29

Super fun game, kinda got Tetris vibes but having the bull in there was genius! Everything felt super polished, just overall really well done!

pious 2022-04-09 05:13

Cute game. I liked the pixel art. The tetris style was clever despite not actually being tetris and it fit the theme well. The scenario of having an ox in a china shop is pretty funny, who thought that was a good idea. Either way, creative and well done. Definitely had to deal with some trial and error in order to fully understand what's going on even after reading the description, but once I got the hang of it, things made sense.

Good job!

aeveis 2022-04-10 04:03

Liked the puzzle mechanic, and how building up blocks were good for blocking off the bull, but also made it harder to place more blocks in a safe spot as there would be less space. I tended to keep confusing rotating and pressing down for some reason, and i felt like the game didn't count the very top row as something that could be safety placed, so something where you try and fit a r shape it wouldn't work? Other than that had something fun seeing how far I could get. I think my best was around 24 matches. Nice job!

clemall 2022-04-11 16:33

A well polished puzzle game with a nice twist! Really cool !

diego-escalante 2022-04-13 00:47

Super cute game. It's old school and really well-rounded. The music, sounds, graphics, and gameplay really feel like I'm being whisked a few decades back. It took me a whole playthrough before I really knew what I was doing, but on my second playthrough I was having much more fun! I don't think I'm very good at it though. I got 27!

nyxkn 2022-04-15 11:16

Cute graphics. Didn't understand how to actually play or what the purpose was though!

morricore 2022-04-15 16:30

Finished with clr 16 first attempt. Sad that's not allows vertical lines, only horizontal. Nice small game.

matthewrobo 2022-04-21 15:16

I've played a few mystery arcade puzzle games recently, and I've never seen anything quite like this game. It's a bit like Puyo Puyo, but with a really interesting timer for clears. Absolutely the best submission I've seen so far.
