The graphics are nice and the music track is really good. objective could be clearer, at first I didn't notice there is a hole I need to throw the bottle into and it took me a while to understand what to do after I punch the bell thing, sadly I couldn't see the ending if there is any because at some point the infinitely respawning cockroaches become so overwhelming its impossible to go anywhere.

Overall I think it's a pretty decent entry it just needs more polish.

giulychu 2021-10-05 20:14

the movement is too fast and the menu doesn't work

skullsprigs 2021-10-05 20:16

FANTASTIC ART STYLE!! oh my god i adore the art so much!!!!!! the music slaps and the concept is so out there. cool as hell, beer bottles as a thrown weapon AND stat booster is such a good idea. Only complaint i have is the lack of healing options.

bassguitarbill 2021-10-05 20:22

You say this game is "for educational use", and yet alcohol doesn't heal you in this game, what gives? This was a really strange and kind of nightmarish (in a good way!) experience. I had fun!

thedude3600 2021-10-05 20:33

Great Soundtrack, the song reminded me a lot of System of a Down (I initially thought it was but then figured the liscencing for SoaD would probably be pretty $$$) and I really dig the art style - it was like a neon infused cruelty squad. Appreciated the option to change mouse sensitivity, the starting value was a bit too fast for me but I dont play a whole lot of FPS' so maybe its perfect for a veteran player. The music slowing down after drinking was a nice touch. The map was a bit tough to navigate, but since my job was to get drunk and punch roaches I never really cared what my current position was. Did get stuck on alot of the environment, but for a 3 day project its pretty solid!

antoinenisoli 2021-10-05 20:41

Thanks you everyone for your feedbacks ! Indeed the game need a lot of polish, tutorials and is too clunky on some parts, but we will working on it and publish some updates on itchio soon to make the experience even better :) (Cruelty Squad was a heavy reference while making the game !)

toppervideogames 2021-10-05 20:49

The visuals are top notch! The distortions increasing as you drink more are really well done. The color shifting also adds a lot of craziness.

The song shifting along with distortions is a good touch.

I would have liked to heal in some way, the giant mobs of bugs are pretty tough to deal with.

Good job overall!

lychee 2021-10-06 02:43

Graphics were very impressive to look at (though they hurt my head a bit)! I thought the music was really good and funny too.

Like others said the options menu doesn't seem to work properly, but for the duration of the jam I thought it was very impressive.

antom 2021-10-06 02:54

Wow! I was surprised with the music and the style of the game, excellent work !!! It has a little detail in the pause menu, but I enjoyed playing it 9/10

darknessdewitt 2021-10-06 02:55

The game it's awesome!!! The only thing that could make perfect your game maybe put a jump action on the movement, and add a indicator of the controls in the layout, for example a Hand in the Pick up the Bottles. I loved the game so much! :)

nicolas-revillon 2021-10-06 09:00

Thank you very much everybody !

dobrila 2021-10-06 09:14

graphics hurt my eyes a little bit, i love the sounds hahah and it is fun to play ! great job!

llaumegui 2021-10-06 13:00

We're currently working on some bugfixes, the menu should be working and you could turn off the post process pretty soon !

solah 2021-10-06 19:59

Wow, the psychedelic art style inspired by old playstation games is great! I love the menu music and the gameplay is fun! I would have loved to see more different enemies and a greater movepool but for a game jam it is already awesome! Bien joué !

pierre-morreel 2021-10-07 19:36

Thanks all for your positives feedbacks on the game ! Sure we are aware of all the litte clanky things, as @llaumegui said the game has already got some updates and fixes and maybe there will be more in the future for those who really enjoyed it :)

nicf 2021-10-07 21:44

The art style is so damn nice and refreshing. Everything reminds me of Road Rash. It's impressive that you guys made this in such a short time!

pierre-morreel 2021-10-07 22:01

@nicf Thanks a lot ! The artstyle was kind of staying in our comfort zone by making a retro PSX style like this, we already made a jam with this style, but sure we're satisfied with the result !

neowhoru 2021-10-08 12:27

This is weird but really cool and funny game :D It makes so damn fun to smash lol

pikario 2021-10-08 12:48

It's really fun ! Love the retro vibe

lucas-viana 2021-10-08 13:05

Nailed it in the art style, nice music and i wanted more of the cockroachcore rock. My feedbacks is that maybe it is good to look more down with the mouse, it makes difficult to drink the bottles. Also, it did'nt feel too intuitive to throw the bottles, i need it to read the description (my game has the same problem haha). Overall very good game, great entry and good job folks.

jaker 2021-10-09 04:10

Like many other, I loved the art. Sadly I couldn't listen to the music much because the volume sliders bugged out and locked the music audio at 0%. What I did hear in the main menu was sweet though. The gameplay was pretty funny, I loved running around and punching those cockroaches while guzzling gallons of alcohol. That being said, the objective could have been clearer. I died due to the infinitely(?) respawning enemies while I looked for the objective, and that's after I saw a comment saying that you have to throw the bottles into the holes. The pointing hands are definitely a step in the right direction in that regard.

P.S. I noticed the non-perspective-correct UV interpolation on the textures. That's a lovely detail. Was adding it as simple as adding `noperspective` attribute (or whatever the HLSL equivalent is) to your pixel shader input, or was it more involved?

llaumegui 2021-10-11 14:25

@jaker thank you for your feedbacks !

We used a psx shader free to use available on github

eliso2 2021-10-11 15:00

Amazing art style And I loved the music

the-sin-preacher 2021-10-11 20:54

GG les french-cheeze ! Nice artwork, heavy music, and cool ambiance!

zuhairghias 2021-10-11 23:29

Awesome effects and post processing. Really loved how the idea ties into instability. Also, is that S.O.A.D I hear in the back?

zacharypinkham 2021-10-12 02:24

Fun little jam game! The art was wild in the best possible way! I liked the feel of it all, though I did find the movement just a little too slidey for my liking. But it had some very pure vibes and I had a great time with it!

llaumegui 2021-10-12 07:11

Thank you for all your feedbacks ! @zuhairghias the music in the back is an original compo made by Logan and Julien, glad you liked the SOAD inspiration :)

fraanns 2021-10-12 08:41

This is such a cool game. The music is amazing and I just love how getting drunk makes you stronger.

wonderr 2021-10-12 09:37

Really like the shader work here, but the objective of the game was quite confusing. Overall pretty cool!

sleepystudios 2021-10-12 22:04

Loved the visuals and the way the music fit into the crazy aesthetic. This game would be hilarious in VR. Nice work!

jpatchz 2021-10-13 01:28

Aestethic is awesome. The synthwave vibes fits it very well. I really loved the music. I get a little lost about what should I do, but besides beat the giant cockroaches. Actually, I had much fun beaten them LOL

shea-kelly 2021-10-13 15:29

what a unique art style I love the colors you chose

vilmantas 2021-10-13 19:23

Great graphics and sound. The roaches are quite off-putting, didn't really like that fact. Double-punching was fun .

binaryprinciple 2021-10-14 01:10

I liked the PS flashback! Reminded me of Duke Nukem. It has a great mood with the artstyle and music, it helped putting me in the headspace.

I would recommend some crazy power ups, think of Postal, maybe a special beer makes the roaches small or too big, and more squishy sounds.

moddingmachine 2021-10-15 17:38

Very interesting... I love how you rated it E lol, this was a wonderful game, it has a really nice retro-arcade style and vibe, I definitly could see this becoming an arcade game. Some more content would be interesting, maybe another edition of the roach, and some other types of 'consumables'. Well Done!

blushingcrow 2021-10-16 02:03

Art is fantastic - 80's/vaporwave are a popular aesthetic but these designs feel particularly inspired - perhaps it goes well with the retro gameplay.

Some collectables or power-ups [like in Wolfenstein or Duke Nukem] would definitely feel in-place here - especially given you're in a mart anyway!

geckoo1337 2021-10-16 20:57

Les effets d'ébriétés me rappellent mon entrée. Une bonne entrée - à consommer avec modération :)

varundevs 2021-10-17 04:48

Good one

flatgub 2021-10-17 08:40

Really love the design on this one! It took longer than I'd like to admit to actually figure out what was going on and as someone who absolutely loves PSX style distortion I'd still err on the side of more subdivisions per quad (when big chunks of the viewport get really intense affine mapping (like the floor and walls) it can give me a weird kind of motion sickness), but those are minor gripes, the visual presentation otherwise is great!

ronanrory 2021-10-20 03:19

Well... this game is interesting indeed. It's pretty cool that textures are distorted like old PS1 affine texture mapping. And the music is a real damn banger, really good for a game jam entry.

But unfortunately this game, apart from the aesthetics, is rather mind numbing; you just punch giant upright cockroaches and drink alcohol. I didn't even notice any stat improvements upon consuming any beer, I wished you could heal, however. I'm not sure if there's something I'm missing.

I played the original first, and then tried out the Post Jam version. I do like the proper title screen here, how the credits image is bigger, and the inclusion of player voice clips. It was also great to see menu improvements, like some visual flair and being able to actually use the in-game menu. Being able to look around fully is also appreciated. Though I don't like that you can *barely* hear the music here.

Overall, this game looks great, it plays nice, and has some damn good music! Good job, all of you!

zimny11 2021-10-20 22:28

Cool game! The graphic and screen effects are awesome. Music simply rocks! I'm not sure, if changing mouse sensitivity works. It was too much for me even after I move it to zero. It was fun to punch some bugs :)

anchorlight 2021-10-21 02:11

The words "Big Obstructions in a Mall" are engrained into my brain now.

EDIT: "There's cockroaches in the mall" makes way more sense, now that I've read the blurb. :joy:

I like the visuals and audio work a lot, but I'm not sure how I feel about the gameplay itself. On one hand, I like the risk/reward of having to waste bottles just to fully fight, and needing to jump around enemies to actually save your bottles for objectives. On the other, you're rewarded for drinking so I feel that the combat buff is just a bit too short considering how you'll be expected to fight an endless horde. It took me a while to figure out what exactly I was supposed to do with said bottles as the arrows seemed to point towards the machines without a more distinct arrow leading to the bottle-lock mechanism.

I'm not sure what the point of the drinking was outside of that, as it feels like an unneccessary screen blur with a temporary boost. It didn't really serve a gameplay purpose outside of using the bottles, though the animation has a lot of style to its timing and sound.

I'd also like slightly more jump height as I kept getting caught on knocked-over shelves, and the bugs may need to get a little closer to the player before attacking as they would regularly group up and start swinging just out of their own reach (thankfully within the player's reach). This made many early groups easy to dispatch before they grew in numbers enough to push a few bugs forward.

Otherwise, the presentation is solid, even if the default mouse speed is a bit much. I like the PSX shaders and psychadelic screen effects, the unabashedly campy metal track, and other than the walking kind I don't think I ran into too many bugs in my playthrough. The audio is quite nice too with some punchy sound effects. This is a solid entry, though I hope that some of the simpler tweaks like the AI distance before attacking can be corrected in a postjam version. Good work!
