Fun and very innovative. I've never seen a game structured like this before.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD31 → The Greenening

Fun and very innovative. I've never seen a game structured like this before.
VERY original idea !
found a "feature" : put green guy in front of a tree and throw seeds to him ^^
Really cool stuff ! Impressive compo
Very fun and original. Who was the purple monster? Some times she helps sometimes is against us.
I enjoyed playing the game.
pretty interesting idea alright.
Next task: Grow a jungle to cover the entire planet. =P
Wow! The concept is just fantastic! I was impressed with how balanced it was, too, with all that going on. Nicely done!
Very creative and original idea!
The mechanics are vey well crafted and I enjoyed the atmosphere
Very innovative game play!
My favorite entry so far, well done!
Really like it. Very solid gameplay for something made in 48 hours.
However I did get stuck. Once the dude rose up from the ground I couldn't figure out how to progress. Those animals kept eating my trees!!
I had to give up after my hand got tired from clicking.
Thank you so much for your kind words and your feedback, I'm really glad you like the game.
@Krunoslav: Well, at the moment the game doesn't have much meaning, so the purple monster is just some random idol. I intended on giving the game a meaning like "humanity destroys nature", but somehow got lost along the way.
@Iak: This actually gives me a whole lot of ideas. Just change the scope of the game in different phases and the incremental design can advance further. Maybe even start on a molecular level. Don't want to end up with something like Spore though. :)
@Matthew Rayfield: Yeah, the boss doesn't really have cues on how to beat him, that's a flaw of the game. You have to hit him with the little green guy when his shield is down, which is the case when the green ground (which advances by upgrading plants) reaches him.
Hi there. Clicked my way to fully green, all maxed out trees. Very addictive mechanics, nice. Love the music also. Excellent graphics and design. Nice +10 or explode special seeds also. Great job!
Seems interesting, but needs a bit more direction.
Hi again !
Just to suggest you one thing about the seed picking.
May be the pick up could juste mouse over ? Like don't need to click to get it.
I took time to understand that we can hold mouse.
But beside this detail, the game is intuitive and the progression is satisfying !
GreeeaAAat work ..!!
Hi ponk, thanks for your feedback again! What you're suggesting is exactly what the second idol-upgrade does (first one is the rain). I thought about giving some visual feedback to the player what it does, but decided to leave it to the player to find out. Maybe it would've been clearer and more useful if I added a little magnetic effect to the mouse cursor, I will probably do that in a possible post-compo version.
This is a great game jam entry, I played it through to the end. A really original little idea, loved it!
While playing this game, can't help but start think about its story, really great work dude!
I like the design that you have many way to destroy enemies. Also the relationship between the purple guy and player, looks like we used to trust him but got betrayed, maybe?
And the intro, nothing but the grass. This make me click that without thinking! That mean it work perfectly.
I really enjoy yo play your game the different phase is really fun
Nice concept, became quite a bit harder once the monsters started to come in ^^ It's weirdly satisfying to pick up all those seeds at first.
Hey I had a lot of fun with this. Loved the different stages of play that came out of it. I never fully understood what the green seeds are all about - were you supposed to avoid them? Also not sure how I kept getting hit with the purple lightning - it was painful to watch my beautiful trees get munched while I was in stasis
The well designed gameplay and balance really stands out. The visuals were ok, but didn't take away from the experience.
Very well executed. One of my favorites this LD.
Out of the box thinking. I like it. Satisfying, like popping bubble wrap.
Not sure if it had an end, covered all with green. At first I was not sure about the game so I closed, but decided to give it a second chance. I really liked the second time. Very nice mechanics. I liked how the insects feed on seeds until they explode.
like someone mentioned also, once the guy rose up I didn't really know how to progress, I gave up after a bit. I've now read your comment about that though!
I didnt understand how to play at the beginning, but once I got started the game was brilliant and I loved the gameplay but it went on for a while and I didn't see an end to the game.
Great entry! As others said, very original and innovative. Well done!
Very nice concept and production !
The music/sound was soothing and worked with the overall mechanic.
I've also clicked (a lot !) my way to full green before finding out idol's upgrades.
It wasn't clear to me at first that this head was "helpful".
So the massive clicking made it quite tedious, but still I wanted to discover/know as promised in your description.
And I ended up with the idol rising, the plants never fully dying from ants and rocks shower but not capable of growing the plants again as well on this last phase.
That's a bit sad as I would have liked to find out what was next.
Indeed, as you mention in the comments, a bit more feedback/balance could help on this.
Also, for international keyboard, please don't only use WASD. Either allow for alternate arrow keys method, or simply go for ESDF which works on qwerty and azerty alike.
Thanks in advance.
Congratulations on making that game in 48 hours !
Best game ive played so far in terms of originality. its like a cookie clicker with challenge, i really like the infinite time waster games that you can just leave open. would be cool if this evolved into something like that but with like a tower defense style.
Very nice !
Time and time again you've been my favorite submitter!
Interesting game, great work :D
really nice fun
Fun game! I'm not sure how to win, though. I had the forest grown at the max level, and the dude across looking at me and sending the spider-things... what then?
Love the music and the mood!
Really good. Really enjoyed the mix of gameplay styles. Nice music, very fun to play.
Pretty good game, I love this kind of game. Well done!
Good combination of genres. I like the progression between "stages" and it's rather challenging.
Awesome sandbox! Wish you best. My overall 5/5 :)
Yeaaah, giant purple guy, take that.
Those spiders didn't stand a chance against my mighty tree army.
I guess the thing is here, it's possible to make it really easy for yourself by just upgrading the fuck out of everything before you start battling. Which is what I did. But I still enjoyed bestowing the wrath of the ents upon my purple victim.
Nice one.
This was awesome! The pace at which things escalated was just right to keep me interested enough to find out what would happen next.
Made it to the boulder throwing, but I couldn't figure out how to kill the statue. Pretty interesting once you figure out what's going on (at first I thought the green chain reactions were a good thing).
I didn't get the point of having the guy, though... what can he do that just mousing over can't?
Great game! I think this is my favorite game so far. The music got a bit repetitive but it wasn't too bad. Really original and unexpected. This game really surprised me and Im really glad I played it. Id love to see this developed a bit further, the artwork and the progression was really charming and had tons of character. Excellent work!
Fun
Really original and well designed game.
The game was pretty goo i was playing it for quit a while hahah :D
