| Jul 31 15:59:13 | Esoteric alteration | ♥ 1 | Fun! In raw js nonetheless - i wish I had your skill. my biggest problem was actually mousing the pieces along quickly enough - believe it or not, I think this game would work well with keyboard controls. Nicely done! | |
| Jul 31 18:06:24 | 2h 07m | rop | ♥ 1 | Android Build! I installed and played it on my phone. I also love the randomization, even if the game is sometimes ridiculously skewed against you - I don't hold impossible games against solitaire, and I won't hold it against you :) That being said, I had a hard time with the dpad on android. Maybe make the touch zones a little bigger than the image - I frequently found it not recognizing my inputs, especially when i tried sliding from one button to another. 60 FPS would be sweet too, especially with thecool lighting, but i realize that may not be in the cards. Awesome game! will chime back in when i actually beat it. |
| Jul 31 18:29:12 | 22m 48s | Reactor Defence | ♥ 1 | Excellent, simplified tower defense game. The power mechanic is pretty cool too, and the game ends just about when you've exhausted all the strategy. Obviously this would be cool if it got more enemy types, guns, etc, but its a pretty sweet base. I would love to play this on mobile. |
| Jul 31 20:12:31 | 1h 43m | First Ludum Dare Submit (Hackerman) | ♥ 2 | I liked it. I think erring on the side of easy is actually good for LD. The graphics are really well done - nice use and command of your palette, I actually had a hard time getting by some guards - you have to hide for a pretty long time before they go away. |
| Jul 31 22:08:58 | 1h 56m | Crystal Rush | ♥ 2 | Really well-made game. I also got confused by the controls - even for those of us who prefer a gamepad, I am used to using the arrow keys to move and not to perform actions. The game is huge, and there is a lot to do. Running back got a little exahusting and confusing - maybe having a minimap or a trail would help? |
| Jul 31 23:49:20 | 1h 40m | Battery Low | ♥ 1 | I love jamming on Android. A+ for meta-gaming and a silly idea. The game is a little tough due to the jank with the charger, but this is a game jam. This is the best themed game I've played so far. |
| Aug 1 01:20:20 | 1h 31m | Teslabus | ♥ 1 | Nice theming. I had trouble reading the icons - the game moves quite fast! The action might be better seen on a taller screen, or if it went left-to-right instead. It was reaaaly satisfying when i got going insanely fast. |
| Aug 1 01:50:11 | 29m 51s | BATTER-E | ♥ 3 | Nice game! It sits on the border between Nuclear Throne-inspired and Nuclear Throne fangame :). Very well put together. I think it plays great, but having your gun degrade with time is difficult. The game is sooo much easier with your big gun, and the dropoff means you want your power to always be maxed out. Also, the sounds are a biiit loud. That being said, it's the most playable game ive played in the jam yet, and i plan on coming back. Nice job! |
| Aug 1 02:57:58 | 1h 07m | Caffeine Raid | ♥ 3 | I am really impressed! The game looks excellent, and you even had time to put in a player select. Everything about the mood reminded me of having a sleepover when I was little. I really liked it. The game is a little difficult, since once mom sees you its basically over, but its short enough that its still fun. Excellent job! |
| Aug 1 03:28:29 | 30m 31s | Shy Gladiator | ♥ 2 | Man, this game really came along. I really like it - it's kind of like punch out with huge monsters. I agree with @pkenney on the proactive piece - killing the cyclops quickly is very satisfying. I also still think a camera which tracks the midpoint between you and the monster would be useful. If the monster cannot be targeted (like when the dead are separate or when the dragon flies away, which I assume is supposed to be unpredicatble), just have the camera center on the gladiator. The current camera DOES have a cinematic gravitas to it, but when you run really far you can't see where you are going. Awesome game - maybe the best 'game' I've played here yet. |
| Aug 1 03:41:21 | 12m 52s | Charge! | ♥ 0 | Wow, excellent! I haven't beaten it yet, so i can't yet comment on the difficulty, but this is really fun! My only comment is common to pico8 games with extremely detailed sprite work - i sometimes have trouble differentiating walls from floors and other details - everything is so shaded it is hard to tell. The game is gorgeous though. Bravo! Probably the single most polished entry i've played yet. |
| Aug 1 17:02:06 | 13h 20m | AstroMouse | ♥ 0 | Wow, you really nailed the theme on this one. I like the idea of a mini, real-time FTL. It is quite challenging - I could not beat it. I agree with @eric-florio that maybe making the transition faster would help. Also, even if you don't do that, I think allowing the ship to move forward when you are not looking would help a bit. This is one of the most polished games I've played here. Cheers! |
| Aug 2 02:59:28 | 9h 57m | Blasphemy! | ♥ 1 | Beat it! Whew, that was tough! I agree with some of the comments regarding the difficulty. I specifically had trouble with the sliding mechanic. If you are against a wall, but NOT holding the arrow towards the wall, you still slide slowly, whereas the slide is gruelingly slow if you hold the arrow. I would maybe adjust this to a single speed while sliding down (maybe the faster of the two) and turn OFF sliding if you do not press against the wall - this would help you fall faster in situations where you need it. Also, this game is begging for 60fps! _update60() please! That being said, this is a very polished entry. The music is excellent and the transitions and effects are really well done. I really enjoyed my time with it. At first, I thought it might be nice to not press X to push a button, but it actually feels kind of nice - jumping by the final button in midair and hitting X feels great. Well done! |
| Aug 2 04:29:27 | 1h 29m | Gargoyle's Curse | ♥ 1 | I think you nailed the theme with this game - well done! Gameplay wise, it is a bit shallow, but I love time-management focused action games. Once i saw that you can break the boxes, I won pretty easily. In fact, I barely had to pump at all, as long as I broke the boxes quickly enough. I really liked it, nice work my pico friend. |
| Aug 2 04:38:24 | 8m 57s | Temple of Illumination | ♥ 3 | This game looks great - some really nice lighting going on. With the cool lighting and setting, i was a little disappointed that it was just small, bite sized levels - I think the game could have done well with a big temple to explore. I realize thats really hard in a game jam, but the setting seemed to point to that. It plays well though, so thats good. Nice game. |
| Aug 3 02:11:47 | 21h 33m | People are the power | ♥ 1 | You really nailed the theme on this, in addition to making a really playable game! It's pretty complete, I was impressed by how full the gameplay feels. It has a bit of a Rampage vibe in that you are terrorizing little people. I had a little trouble figuring out the weapons, and the pacifier is still not super useful for me. I thought the SOL used way too much power to charge - one bad shot ruins the level. Regardless, really fun - would be neat if you were driving around a little city or town and zapping people. |
| Aug 3 02:22:40 | 10m 53s | DraBot | ♥ 2 | It has to be said again that this game looks great - well done. I realize it is a source of controversy, but I kind of like the NES-Castlevania weightiness to movement and combat - this is a very deliberate platformer, not a twitch platformer. That being said, there is not a lot of "weight" behind any of the attackes or movements - it's sometimes hard to know you are hitting someone, as well as that you are getting hit. Given the game's graphics, this is not an easy fix I realize. Really solid entry, well-played. |
| Aug 3 04:14:16 | 1h 51m | Power Struggle | ♥ 1 | Great looking game. Is there a reason that shooting needs to be on a mouse button? It makes the game difficult to play on a laptop.I thought the collisions were OK - difficult, but OK. Music is good too. |
| Aug 3 04:22:21 | 8m 05s | Stargust | ♥ 1 | I love the presentation - playing as a smiling cloud is cute. The gameplay is also pretty innovative. I found keeping track of all the abilities a little tricky. Also, you run out of water very quickly - I barely feel like I got any watering done. Solid looking game and concept, though. Nice to see yet another person repping pico8! |
| Aug 3 15:28:48 | 11h 06m | We Made A Game While Camping | ♥ 1 | Excellent! This is the jammiest game I've played. I played 3 times until I won! The frantic music really goes a long way to setting the mood. I love the little quests and everything. I don't know how much more this idea can be extended, but it was super-fun - one of the few games i beat, and DEFINITELY the only one i was willing to sit through multiple game overs for. I love that the game just shuts down if you lose. I gave this entry really high marks - awesome work. |
| Aug 4 23:17:32 | 31h 48m | Breathless Parks - Running, out of Power | ♥ 2 | lol. Totally silly. Nice jammie game. I would love some more mini games! |
| Aug 4 23:24:58 | 7m 26s | Ready, HANDHELD! | ♥ 0 | Creatively, this game is on the mark. Great theme, the darkening mechanic is solid, and the moving of the gameboy is silly. In terms of platformer mechanics, the game has some serious jank. The delay on the jump doesn't really make sense without an animation - it can be done, like commander keen, but there's no indication of that here. Regardless, this is the kind of jammie game i come to ludum dare for. Nice job! |
| Aug 5 01:55:39 | 2h 30m | Tower of Power | ♥ 2 | A pretty standard TD game, but the one stat is a really good idea. I found the difficulty to be a little low - I am currently just letting it run in the background of my PC. In terms of theme, I like how you captured it in the thematic elements of your game but also the gameplay. One thing that was missing for me was some impact from the enemies - a sound or graphic or something to show that they are attacking would go a long way. Otherwise, nice game! |
| Aug 5 02:01:52 | 6m 13s | Sight Jumper | ♥ 0 | I agree with @epono that there is not quite enough information being given to the player, especially since the eyes on screen convey digital information. That being said, it is a very clever idea. Unfortunately, I also don't see how it fits the theme of running out of power. I would love to see this expanded. |
| Aug 5 20:04:39 | 18h 02m | Pepe, The Power Plant | ♥ 1 | Great artwork and animations! Really a stellar looking game. gameplay-wise it is a tad shallow, but that's ludum dare for you. I think this could be a clever game with some obstacles and audio work. |
| Aug 5 20:10:48 | 6m 09s | Dodge The Box. | ♥ 0 | I agree with @thygrrr - this is a small detail, but your splash screens were great! Really very sharp. I found the game itself to be a good idea, but a bit basic. Still fun! |
| Aug 5 21:14:57 | 1h 04m | Soul Gun | ♥ 3 | Great looking game. I might have been able to deal with the difficulty, but the game ran pretty poorly on my laptop, which made some of the jumps into glitchy messes. Since dying happens so quickly, I recommend making the respawn time extremely short - Team Meat, during a design talk, once mentioned that they made their super-hard style work since the iteration time was so short. Amazing game for such a short time, maybe a bit difficult. |
| Aug 6 01:54:41 | 4h 39m | Spacy adventure | ♥ 1 | Great looking and playing game! I agree with @almax that the screen is a bit too busy. Also, while the energy mechanic works well, it's not the most original game. SOlid work, here here for pico8. |
| Aug 6 03:33:21 | 1h 38m | Torch Boy | ♥ 1 | Super solid mechanics. I just wish it were longer. Nicely done! |
| Aug 6 03:44:49 | 11m 28s | Angry Tracks | ♥ 0 | Wow, this is really ambitious! I was having some trouble with the web version on my computer - the window was not "catching" my mouse, so any time I tried to look too far the mouse would leave the screen and I lost control. Also, I had a hard time keeping track of what everything does in game. I recognize that this is kind of a janky solution, but you may want to consider having text pop up over items that just say "coolant" or "gun". Nice job! Also, make sure that you visit other people's games - your game will not get featured if your account is not tracked reviewing other people's games. Good luck! |
| Aug 6 04:00:41 | 15m 52s | Archetype - Running Out of Power | ♥ 0 | I played solo, but this game was still really cool. I actually liked the graphics, even if they were placeholder graphics. It would be hard to wrangle people for this, but this would be a really fun 4 player splitscreen affair. Great job! |
| Aug 6 04:08:47 | 8m 06s | I'm Not Your President | ♥ 0 | This game looks amazing. Too amazing, in fact - my laptop completely choked on it - I got like 5 fps. Can you upload a post-compo version with lower resolution of lower effects? |
| Aug 6 04:13:04 | 4m 17s | Battery | ♥ 0 | Simply stellar. This is what a jam game should be. I've bookmarked the page for later. Am I a sap? Maybe! |
| Aug 7 03:36:22 | 23h 23m | Plasma Arena | ♥ 2 | Wow, this is hardcore. I missed quake-style shooters back in the 90s, so I had a really hard time with the movement tech in this game (rocket jumps, strafe jumps). That being said, its a pretty awesome accomplishment. Did you cook up this 3d engine in just a weekend? Bravo. |
| Aug 7 04:45:52 | 1h 09m | Soulviver | ♥ 0 | Pretty funny game! I love the voicework - all the sound effects are hilarious. The level design is actually really good too. The physics are a little jank - they work with the humor in this jam game, but I don't know if they would extend to a full game. I really liked it! |
| Aug 8 04:57:22 | 24h 11m | Turtle's Quest | ♥ 1 | The graphics in this game are very well done - the crocs look very cute. I had major issues with the jumping - even when i was just walking in an open area, the turtle often wouldn't jump. I could not unlock a single croc due to the jumping not working. Great looking artwork, just need to polish those physics a bit. |
| Aug 8 05:10:11 | 12m 49s | Fart Squirrel | ♥ 0 | Pretty solid game - I actually like the act of managing floating versus jumping. However, the spike tunnel is nearly impossible to clear - I could never do it, so I didn't get very far. Solid mechanics, and it looks great. |
| Aug 8 05:19:07 | 8m 56s | Player in the Dark | ♥ 2 | Even when using the flashlight, the game is extremely dark - I couldn't see any of the platforms, especially tough when they were moving. This is a shame, cuz its a pretty cool game! I like the intermittent save points, the character, and the lighting effects. Maybe consider making the flashlight effect much more pronounced. |
| Aug 8 05:28:41 | 9m 34s | Pro Cycling Simulator 91 | ♥ 1 | This was extremely silly. The win and lose screens are really funny! This is exactly the quick kind of goofy game the I love LD for. Bravo. |
| Aug 9 03:34:58 | 22h 06m | Plug Me | ♥ 0 | A really sharp game, and one that absolutely nailed the theme. My only feedback is that the game fits the theme almost too well - I loved it here, but I don't know that it would make much sense outside of this. You mentioned doing a full release - I think if you came up with other gimmicks to design around (maybe the bar goes in reverse? Maybe the whole level dissappears?) you could have a full game. |
| Aug 9 03:49:22 | 14m 24s | Float | ♥ 1 | The mechanics of this game are excellent - I feel like i've seen several movies where they do something like this, and it's cool to actually do it yourself. I played the web version on my cheapo laptop and it ran just fine. My only critique is that the game is a tad bare-bones, but that is understandable for LD. Of all the games I have played, I would most like to see this one fleshed out. I think it would actaully work with a scary, horror theme. Cool game! |
| Aug 9 04:04:40 | 15m 18s | Powerless | ♥ 1 | Very very cool game. A great spin on the theme, and I like how much personality has been injected into the minimalist graphics (the red dots beating up the center is chilling). I could use a hotkey for making people into police. It might also be fun to have some alternate geometries or other factors at play in the field. Very cool game. |
| Aug 9 22:53:36 | 18h 48m | Artax | ♥ 1 | Beautiful looking game, and the gameplay is there too. I plan to go back and finish when I have time. Really great looking game. Not the most original idea (helping a character who does stuff for you), but that is probably my only minor critique. |
| Aug 12 20:19:36 | 69h 26m | Zombie Power Station | ♥ 1 | Game concept and theme are spot on! I love the idea, especially since your gameplay loop (shoot zombies, get guts, drop them in bin while managing power) adds a ton of strategy to a fairly simple game. I had two problems, though - the game performance was really poor on my laptop - I think a platformer like this should run a little more smoothly. Also, and this can't really be helped in a jam, i could have used more visual and audio cues - a sound effect or something when you pick up guts would be key. All that being said, I loved the concept and the gameplay was surprisingly deep. Nice! Also, your stream was great! Thanks a ton for playing my game a bit - it is really informative as a dev to get to see people play your game - my only experience was watching myself play, so it's useful to see where I can make improvements. |
| Aug 13 03:16:02 | 6h 56m | Runic Forest | ♥ 1 | Stellar game. I can't believe that it opens with voice acting! in a jam! I thought the game mechanics work really well, but I actually had a bit of a problem with my direction in the game. It is necessary to run around to recharge your magic at the stations, but it kind of lacks urgency. Many times I found myself waiting around for enemies to respawn. I think this would work really well as a tower defense, actually - maybe stick something in the middle that you are defending and have enemies spawn at the edges of the arena. One question on your code - it looks like you used LOVE. I know this is a jam game and not compo, but do you plan to share your source? I code with Lua in pico8, and I am interested in using LOVE next. Your game looks really clean, and I would love to see an example. THanks! |
| Aug 13 03:30:38 | 14m 36s | The Electrician | ♥ 1 | I love jamming on android. I played several times, but I still do not get the logic behind getting zapped or getting points - it seems randomized level to level. Is it just that you have to memorize the colors as you go? Thats a bit tricky, especially for colorblind folks like me. You should also really let your game be graded for audio, cuz the tune is awesome. |
| Aug 13 03:36:20 | 5m 42s | Ten Little Letters | ♥ 3 | I think this game is pretty clever from a dev perspective - it's an interesting game to put together and i'm sure the code is interesting. However, the game was not really my cup of tea - playing it well requires a LOT of clicking, which is not an activity I love. Very cool idea, though. I'm pretty interested in LOVE right now, so I might take a peak at your code. |
| Aug 13 03:57:18 | 20m 58s | They come at night | ♥ 1 | This is a really ambitious game for the compo! I agree with a few people above that the balancing of the game is a bit off - I played pretty poorly but still won in the end. Also, the fast forward function should go much much faster - I felt like I was waiting forever when I ran out of power for enemies to roll in. That all being said, the game plays really well, and I was compelled to beat it. Nice job! Quick question - what exactly did you use the music21 toolkit for? It's an interesting looking package, but you don't have music here. |
| Aug 13 04:07:26 | 10m 08s | Character Building | ♥ 1 | So, uh, @badly-drawn-rod... everything ok, bud? pico8 love, btw. |
| Aug 17 04:59:53 | 96h 52m | Windup | ♥ 1 | This was fantastic! A 3d platformer for a jam is really ambitious. It looks great, and all things considered it plays fairly well - The jumping is a tiny bit janky, but your geometry is somewhat complex so it works pretty well. I agree with the posters above that it was tricky to figure out when your energy is running out and what powerups are doing. Maybe more gui items? Stellar jam game. |
| Aug 17 05:13:14 | 13m 21s | Recharge | ♥ 3 | Art looks great - would love to see this finished. |
