LD46 — Keep it alive

From Dusk Till Dawn by Nikolay Zapolnov 2020-05-01T19:08:52Z

Very fun and humorous concept, excellent graphics and sound. The game mechanic part was too hard for me, so I had to rely on the walk through video to check more of the. game. Consider having an option to vary the difficulty level by an option to adjust the size of the catch bowl. I would have been willing to try several more times if I did not have to sit through the intro animation every time. If you are attached to the idea of always starting from the intro, consider making at least three variations of the intro, so it's always different... maybe interject some jokes or dialogue about organs, such as "oh, I love your brain", " I love you for your heart", etc. Overall, excellent job :-)

Thanks Nikolay. I totally understand the deadline thing :-)

Egg Tender by ludevum 2020-04-21T19:43:20Z

I love the elegance and simplicity of the design, as well as the very endearing tone. As a suggestion, consider adding another layer of atmospheric sound, such as wind blowing through trees or river water flowing. I think that would ground the piece a bit more strongly. Great work overall.

Cardkin by Akusan 2020-05-01T19:21:56Z

I like the gentle tone of the game. I was confused as to how to make things progress. Consider adding animations for items visually going in and out of bag. Also, consider replacing the bag with a table or a shelf so player can always see what they have. Overall, this is a great start on a game :-)

Outpowered by LCStark 2020-05-01T20:48:11Z

Overall a great job. It took me awhile to figure out that you can change the rotation of player with the mouse position (the player automatically rotates to some degree with the WASD keys, and I thought I was limited to that at first). You may want to add that to the instructions. Also, I recommend changing the shape of the player so that it's more obvious as to which side the bullets are going to come out. Good work :-)

The Cube by Casual Dutchman 2020-04-23T01:43:49Z

Thanks for the response Itch.io and for uploading the Mac version. On my computer the security settings will not allow the app to open since the app is not registered with Apple. I did just check out your video, which documents the game really well and coveys the experience fully. I think the visual design is great, and the colors and shapes evoke a strong sense of an other-worldly atmosphere. One suggestion is to adjust the players camera settings to give it a bit of buffer in the movement. The set up now (as seen in the video) has a hard-edged stop-start motion when you look around. Great work.

Don't Go Grandpa by Ignacio Zamorano 2020-04-21T21:26:26Z

Love it. Love it. Love it. Beautiful visual design and fun game play elements. Consider adding a virus-zapping mechanic, or a supply of face masks :-)

Tamagotchu by beats 2020-04-22T00:42:02Z

LOVE IT! The simplicity in the design is brilliant, and the music adds a great groove to the battery bliss at the end. Great work!

HYPERHOP: GALACTIC LANCER by Swanijam 2020-05-01T19:49:42Z

I watched the lets play video that someone posted to your Itch.io page (I was not able to play since I'm not on a Windows machine). I love the graphics, ambient sound, fluid sense of movement, and the whimsical sense of floating in space. The light-hearted vibe kind of takes a nose-dive when you have to start killing innocent looking, child-like things. I would consider a different kind of space food that does not involve violence for this particular game. The beauty of the piece deserves a life-affirming game mechanic :-)

Oaks & Pines by Argon 2020-04-21T19:59:06Z

I love the graphics and sound. Very beautiful and calming. I did find the game logic a bit too complex for my taste. Consider options for a more simple game play for the first level, so the player can get a handle on the process before adding more complexity in another level. Overall great job!

ADOA - Addition Dino Offspring Alive by fabrito 2020-04-25T01:43:34Z

Overall this is a great educational game. I recommend adding some sound :-)

The Fading Fire by LudumDareDevil 2020-04-25T01:36:00Z

I tried running the HTML5 version on Mac (I tired using both the Safari browser and Chrome), but could not get it to work. Possibly your game is missing a loading screen to indicate something is happening.

Rouge Connection by Edalbung 2020-04-21T20:19:53Z

The graphics and sound are great. While playing this I found that I was could best protect myself by not moving and just throwing the ball. Consider adding a clear motivation for moving. Overall, great work!

Rouge Connection by Edalbung 2020-04-22T16:23:46Z

@edalbung Thank you, I'm glad my feedback was helpful :-)

Temple of Enlightenment by prepparedheathen 2020-04-27T16:42:00Z

I tried the HTML5 version using Chrome on a Mac. It did not work. It produced this error message:

call_indirect to a null table entry (evaluating 'Module["asm"]["Hi"].apply(null, arguments)')

Keep Jeff Alive by BenG 2020-04-25T21:49:07Z

The graphics are great. The game play was a bit confusing for me at first, since the controls move to characters at once. The spikes come on too fast and unexpectedly for a first level for me. Consider dropping it down a few notches at the start... or build in some kind of warning that spike is coming... or, at least, position the mother in the middle at the beginning so she does not get killed right away with no visual clue as to why :-) Overall, great work for a first Unity game. Consider adding screenshots to your project page here, as that will encourage others to play.

The little match girl by yangying 2020-04-25T21:35:10Z

Great work. I love the concept and graphics. I watched your trailer video but was not able to download the game on my machine. The concept brings back memories of when I saw the Disney animated short based on the same story, which was the most emotionally intense animation piece I've ever seen. I recommend you put in your project notes that your game is based on the classic fairy tale "The Little Match Girl" by Hans Christian Andersen. It's always good to give credit where credit is due :-) I appreciate you making a game about something very vulnerable.

The little match girl by yangying 2020-04-26T15:54:00Z

@yangying Thanks for the response. I'm glad me feedback was helpful :-)

Vestige by BitPokit 2020-04-21T20:12:36Z

I love the elegant and minimalist design and high quality implementation of sound. For me, the game was a bit too challenging, but I have limited experience with playing video games. Consider having easier mode for a first level for us slower cats. Overall, great work!

Virtual Fish Tank by Jay Berlin 2020-05-01T19:37:18Z

This is a great start on a lovely, meditative game. The see the atmosphere of the sound as a key element of the piece, so consider refining that to make it as warming and calming as possible (I would take out the buzzing sound and focus on variations in bubble sounds). Consider adding visual cues on the fish as to their state... and maybe focus the game quality-of-life levels instead of life and death. Consider an option for adding scenery to the tanks... mountains, castles, etc, with openings for the fish to swim through... all adding to their overall quality of life score, and the visual quality of the piece. You did lots of great work here within the short window of the game jam.

Virtual Fish Tank by Jay Berlin 2020-05-08T01:39:28Z

Thanks Jay. Good luck with the updates :-)

@yodog Thanks Mario, I appreciate the very helpful suggestion. I just added a more complete description on my project page.

@David-knox Thanks David, I appreciate the kind feedback :-)

@spaceguy99 Thanks Spaceguy, I appreciate the kind feedback :-)

@akusan Thanks Akusan. The letter spinning is linked to the main game mechanic of directing air onto the fire. I just added more description to my project page. Sorry it was not clear before. I appreciate the kind feedback :-)

@beats I'm glad you liked the pizza reference. Thanks for the kind feedback :-)

Air for Inspiration by studiocurtis 2020-04-23T00:58:45Z

@edalbung Thanks Edalbung, I'm grateful for the detailed feedback. I agree, the core mechanic of the air could use a lot of fine tuning to make it feel more fluid.

@bajtix Thanks Bajtix, I'm grateful for the kind feedback :-)

Air for Inspiration by studiocurtis 2020-05-02T13:47:07Z

@lcstark Thank you, I appreciate the detailed feedback and the tip on the link issue. I agree, the game as it is, feels a bit too random in its pace and could use some tuning. There was not time to iron that out before the deadline.

@keppu Thanks Keppu, I'm very grateful for the kind feedback :-)

Air for Inspiration by studiocurtis 2020-05-08T01:45:06Z

@lessthanridiculous Thanks so much for the kind feedback. I'm glad to hear someone saw the hilarious aspect of the piece. I was learning a new game engine as I was doing this project, and had intentions of it going in a different direction, but a number of constraints pushed it into a more spastic solution :-) It could use a lot of fine tuning to make more sense, but there was not time for that.

@skosnowich Thanks for the kind feedback :-)

Air for Inspiration by studiocurtis 2020-05-09T23:15:03Z

@gunturtle Thanks for the kind feedback. I did have some initial code set up intended to have the fire go out, but I ran out of time and did not get to adjust that to make it work before the deadline.

CaveFlame by Pretzol 2020-04-21T20:58:30Z

I love the cartoon graphics and simple visual approach. I played the HTML5 version, and the navigation did not seem to work. I was not able to move though the rooms. Consider adding arrow buttons to make it more clear how to navigate. Also consider adding navigation instruction in the description. I was initially trying to use WASD and arrow keys before realizing that I needed to click instead. Overall, a great start on a fun game!

CaveFlame by Pretzol 2020-04-22T00:32:24Z

@pretzol Thanks, I'm glad my feedback was helpful.

Teeter (HTML) by murpyh 2020-04-25T21:16:44Z

I like the simplify in the graphics. It took me a while to figure out how to control the cup. I tried WASD then Arrowkeys, and almost gave up, then tired using the mouse. I recommend letting people know to use the mouse in your instructions to avoid frustration :-)
