Incredible! Loved the animations!

rbeattie 2020-04-21 02:10

Nice we also like fire games

elio 2020-04-21 02:13

It was a very fun game, keep the hard work :D

The graphics are intriguing especially with the smoke effect on your character. Though the graphics leave a lot to be desired its not the worst I've ever seen and it's very consistent. The constant sizzling of the fire got very annoying early on when I was playing and I wish there was some music. The game was incredibly confusing and I could not figure out where to go. Your character moves too fast and I fell off the cliff many times because of it. The collisions on the edges of the platforms ended up causing me to get stuck into the sides of them very often. The game isn't the greatest but it had good aspects you could work on.

ludumdaredevil 2020-04-21 02:51

yeah sorry about all that. All my online school got in the way of fixing most of the problems, but thanks for the input. I really appreciate it. I learn a lot from good feedback.

ludumdaredevil 2020-04-21 02:52

I was going to add music, but I ran out of time. :(

abdurrahman-khallouf 2020-04-21 14:34

I dont know why I could not run the game at all :( after run the game no loading no nothin. installed the Pc version . it was web as well :)

ludumdaredevil 2020-04-21 15:51

really? I'll try to fix it.

ludumdaredevil 2020-04-21 15:57

not sure what's wrong with the web version. The pc one should work

studiocurtis 2020-04-25 01:36

I tried running the HTML5 version on Mac (I tired using both the Safari browser and Chrome), but could not get it to work. Possibly your game is missing a loading screen to indicate something is happening.

ludumdaredevil 2020-04-25 12:38

Ok I fixed the HTML5 version and now it should work. Enjoy!

*I like the disclaimer.*

I remember my first jam. I was older than 12, managed to put something together, but it didn't live up to my standards and I never published it. I chickened out! You did something and also published it. Good on you!

Protecting a flame, that is also a dude, is novel. The ponds work within this idea, yet the rain does not. That's a shame. I looked forward to dodging random droplets, yet it was not to be.

Of course, the platforming is the main mechanic here. It is functional, but also very imprecise. This is the very first thing that happened to me:

TheFadingFire.png

Which would actually be a very cool feature, like a ledge grab with the head, but jumping does not work from this position. It is worth developing these kind of "bugs" into features when they pop-up.

Could not find the eternal flame. The small platforms were too much for me. With checkpoints I would have persevered to see the ending.

You made something that works and put it up. Good! Keep at it.

To @HuvaaKoodia:

Yeah I couldn't keep up with school and this game so one thing had to win... of course it was school. I was going to make it where you could dodge the rain drops but I just ran out of time. But that's ok. It's all apart of the challenge. Ludum Dare wouldn't be as fun without the small time frames. Thanks for the feedback!

What a surprise! This is my favorite type of action game. Although it's just a prototype, it's fun and creative. The future of young age is limitless. Come on!

aguahervida 2020-04-28 15:44

Great job! I'm impressed by how much you did being this young O: I like to give feedback to make games better, don't take it personal, is for a better game :)

The game is super polish which is nice, has a lot of particles and sound effects well done, the enemies could be easier and become harder and harder as you progress to your level (the first water drop you as a player encounter takes like 10 hits to kill, and it doesn't show any sign of damage, like a knockback or a color flash) Would be better if you started killing easy watter drops and then harder ones.

The head gets stuck in the platforms, and this may be nice, but if you can recover from that is just frustrating u.u I loved the sound effects and again, the particles, not a lot of people add those, congrats.

Overall is a great game, the tutorial is simple and direct, and with a little bit more work this game could potencially be even better, keep it up with the good work, like seriously you are only 12! You can be much much more :D

To @aguahervida: Thank you so much for the feedback! I really appreciate it. Good tips and suggestions really help me to improve my game dev. You guys really make my learning journey a lot easier!

Thanks for playing my game and I hope you enjoyed it.

mrchippy 2020-04-28 16:36

The flame and water dropplet were both pretty cute. The shrinking mechanic was pretty good too.

I would be pretty happy with myself if this was the quality of my first jam entry, so good job.

It seems that the collision issues are being adressed a lot so I'd like to suggest working on level design. The precise jumps and areas where you can fall onto a lower area make the level really awkward and maze-y (which is what almost everybody starts off doing). Learning more about level design and making more thoughtful levels will add a huge boost in quality to your game.

ludumdaredevil 2020-04-28 16:47

To @mrchippy: Thanks for the feedback! I'll definitely take the time to learn about level design. I really like that so many people are playing my game and giving me priceless feedback! Before I could enter into Ludum Dare I only had my family and friends to play my games which isn't necessarily bad but they don't know how it feels to make a game in 48 to 72 hours. So thanks for playing my game and I hope you enjoyed it!

Fun little game. I like that you can get different jump heights based on how long you hold the button. Platforming felt pretty good too - not too floaty like I often see. Getting more jump height at the cost of being faster and harder to control when you touch water and shrink was a cool trade-off.

The only problem with the physics I had was I sometimes got stuck halfway on a platform - like, the fire dude's chin would land on the platform and he'd get caught. Sometimes I could get up from this but sometimes I fell and died. I'd suggest trying to find a way to make your character collide with solid objects like the ground based on something other than his sprite.

I thought it was a little weird that you used the mouse button to shoot but you couldn't aim - for a while I kept trying to shoot in the other direction than I was facing by clicking on that side. Not really a problem once I got used to it though.

I think the enemies took a few too many shots to kill, and it wasn't clear to me at first if I was actually dealing damage. It would help if there was something like a particle effect when they got hit - or maybe they could shrink like you do when you get hurt by water! I also think it would be nice if you didn't die to them in one hit.

Overall, nice entry and impressive work for someone your age. Keep at it!

eduardogacn 2020-04-29 02:55

the game is fun, the level not so much, the truth is I don't know where to go, many paths at the beginning.

Anyway great initiative, good job :)
