LD37 — One room

Spooky Ghost Room by Dragojt 2016-12-19T16:43:00

Great job for making it procedural ! The gameplay is too simple, I would like more differents threats and traps, or interactions, but I think the next thing on which you should work is on feedbacks, the death and light collecting are just fonctionnal, make them feel terryfying and rewarding with sounds, screenshakes, particles, or which effects you want, you will see that it changes completely the feeling of the game and add a lot to it !
But it's your first LD and you're beginners, so not bad ! You have a finished project now. I hope to see your team on the next LD for an even bigger and better project ;). Good continuation !

The Nightmare Room by Olowynd 2016-12-19T14:41:00

Hey Diplodino, which version have you download ? Have you any error message displayed ?
(I couldn't test for Linux and MacOS/X, so unfortunately I'm only sure it's work for Windows. :/ )

Maggie's Grinning Soul by Diplodino 2016-12-19T16:29:00

The polish is awesome for a Ludum Dare game, I can't believe my eyes, I just had a problem: after ask all the questions of a categorie, the bottom box is now empty and I can't get back to the selection of the categories, maybe I miss something on the controls ? I don't know.

Just a normal top-down shooter by dave003 2016-12-19T16:55:00

It should fit more in "shoot'em'up" - "danmaku" or "bullet hell" or something like that than in "top down shooter" in my opinion.
But let's forget theses considerations to talk about the game itself, the mechanic of enemies who copy you when you're touched is very cool, but not very exploited, the game is still too short and simple. It would be nice to have more variety with powers, differenciates hero shoots and enemy shoots... generally have more feedbacks, a moving background, things like that. Good luck for enhancing your game or work in other projects, and gj tho for submit your first LD game at the mercy of internet :>.
(Oh, and I got the crash too, unfortunately I can't figured why :/ )

Laser Panic by ACCBDD 2016-12-19T16:10:00

Fun little game, I really appreciate the hook mechanic (and i'm pretty jealous cause i don't know how to handle such a thing in Unity :3), but I feels a little lack of player control on the character, it's too slow and floaty, i would like more gravity, and more speed following the inputs. The musics and feedbacks are very very nice, and even if the game is short it has the pride to be "finished".
I think with the modifications on the controls I suggere and with differents level design and more threats and differents things to handle it could be a really awesome platformer (but maybe all the suggestions wouldn't fit the one room theme).
Nice work !

Laser Panic by ACCBDD 2016-12-19T18:51:00

I have replay it and got a lot of fun, so here a:

Room of Chaos and Creation by fivecyclops 2016-12-19T15:51:00

Hello, this comment may content spoilers and it's more notes than a constructed review but let's go:

> The modelisation is really good for a Ludum Dare and the lighting was really nice (it seems frequent for games made on Unreal Engine, but I notice nonetheless).
> Also, cool little camera movement.
> For the beginning especially (but a little too during the whole game, notably during the tentacles room or the dark room), I got difficulty to active the trigger for make the room progress, I don't really know how it's managed. I think the game need either to facilitate the progression to the next state or (better but longer to implement) has some interactions to keep the player busy and interested and getting him more in the mood in the waiting for the next state to appear.
> The ambients sounds bring really a lot.
> Love the atmosphere, the beginning was very calm but I got a great fear with the black rock screamer, and the next events get me in a totally different attitude in comparison with the start of the game, that was cool.
> Got stuck in the dark room for a really long time.
> After getting out of this room, i was stuck in a loop of rooms and I don't found the exit, that was a little unsatisfying cause I wasn't able to got a end.

So I think it lack of interactions and dialogs/text lines, some feedbacks (foostep sounds, visual clue for the triggers,...) and especially: easier triggers to activate.
Good job tho, I appreciate the ambient, music and graphics.

The Library by Stending 2016-12-14T20:48:00

I've already told you my first impressions so I will explain my thoughts a little deeper now:
> Really awesome graphics and audio.
> This leads to a very nice atmosphere, with the polish of the title screen too.
> Find how to begin a partition is not obvious, but I doesn't get stuck for too long personnaly, so for me it was playful and let you time to be in the mood, so it's cool.
> I have begin with the Earth music, and found it really fast and difficult, too much for the first approch with the gameplay, even with the good affordance with the leaves = arrow keys.
> The Fire music should be a perfect beginning, very appreciate this one.
> I found the timing a little weird, like you must press just before the note, but i'm not sure for this one, it's maybe just me. Ah, and the dark note at the right made me believe that I fail a note each time, not very intuitive this one.
And I think that's all, great relaxing experience, good job !

Walkie Talkie by managore 2016-12-19T15:55:00

The concept is just really awesome and unique, I would love to write stories that can be played with meaning with the letters and words used in the gameplay with it.
In the current state the gameplay is a little too rigid and there is a lack of sounds feedbacks for get in a even cooler mood, but this is just incredible. This is just the best gameplay idea I've seen during this LD, great job as always, very inventive !

Fighting Spirits by Pyrofoux 2016-12-14T21:00:00

Hey, I begin to take a shower and I find the scene really interesting, I was really excited about the game but I think I'm on a bug now: I try to do things on computers but I'm stuck on it. Maybe I just need to wait more and this express a computer/web addiction but I fear it's a kind of infinite loop with sentences appearing on this black background: http://puu.sh/sPDeV/92da0a851a.png
I'm gonna retry soon if it don't change and let a more interesting comment !

Fighting Spirits by Pyrofoux 2016-12-19T14:30:00

Cool game ! My first experience was mitigated, I was seeing great potential but the bugs were making the game incomprehensible until it becomes unplayable. But now you have fixed everything I supposed, I got no problem this time and was able to enjoy the full experiment, and it was really great !

First, the theme, the subject talk a lot to me, being isolated in one room with yourself, struggling with a kind of depression that always come back whatever you do to overcome it, I'm really happy to see this topic in a video game.
We can not really represent all the complexity of it but you seized a good playable representation here.

Secondly, the gameplay. Before you got the sword, you understand that you can't do anything against the "bad faces", but after you got it, you don't know if you should continue to beat them or if you must loose, whatever you do, it fit with the story, but when playing it really had a strange feeling and sometimes it seems pointeless to fight. I will not develop more because @gdcvdqpl pretty much said all my others thoughts on the gameplay (the rotating sword, the feedbacks, ...).

That's all for me, good job and thanks for fixed it, I've really enjoyed it !

LD39 — Running out of Power

CHAINED by Mr. Chelnoque 2017-08-02T23:35:18Z

Wow, it's was a great experience for the graphics and sound design, it was amazing ! I love it very much. But the controls are a bit strange and it was hard to be very accurate, I've enjoy it but get a bit frustrated too sometimes. Nice atmosphere, good job !

Messages In The Void by Olowynd 2017-08-01T20:27:18Z

@jajo "surprisingly disturbing" it's a one of my goals making it ahah, thanks :). @surovyi Thanks you, glad you like the graphics ! Yes, the gameplay is very important for the narration but I wanted to keep it simple, I think it's already not so easy to figure how to have the "good end", but it's hard to really know when you create the game and can't do playtests.

Messages In The Void by Olowynd 2017-08-01T23:28:19Z

@landberglife (The jump is useless cause finally i find it was too overhelming to have things to jump over). You can stop walking and just read if you want, but eventually the Void will be too close to you, so you should use the torchlight to run faster and distance it (but the torch use a lot of battery). Far at the left, there is a special place. You have to reach it without die because of the void or 0% battery for being able to unlock ends 3 and 4. I would not like to spoil them or how to get them but I hope you will find the better end ! (Communication is the key, also don't ignore screams) Thanks for your comment, I know the reading + gameplay can be a weakness of the game cause it's hard, but imo it's also a strenght by the meaning it have. Now, don't let Lily die, I've hope in you ! \(^-^)/ <3

Messages In The Void by Olowynd 2017-08-02T12:55:21Z

@mrjotubes > I'm glad that it gets you very involved and that you finally got the ending 4 ! And yeah, it can be a french thing, I hear about statistics that 1/5 person in France will suffer from depression during his life. I don't remember the source but it seems really huge :s. Or maybe we are just grumpy people >:[ (cliché). @starlight-glimmer-is-best-poney Yes, rythm was not easy to made, finding a balance with reading & writing time, danger, battery... also I know that I need to enhance my writing skills in English, it's even more important for a mostly narrative game, cool that it wasn't too problematic tho ! Thanks both of you a lot for your kinds words <3, it's important to me and i'm very happy that you have appreciate it, even if it's not really a "fun" kind of game.

Messages In The Void by Olowynd 2017-08-02T22:53:40Z

Thanks you all for your kind comments <3. And yeah @hhsaez I forgot to add a Quit button on the title screen, but I was too lazy to rebuild and reupload the 3 versions just for this ahah, you're forced to Alt+F4 my game, sorry !

Rat Hole City by MrChippy 2017-08-02T15:25:49Z

Damn, I was surprised each time thoses buggaboos start jumping at me ! It's a solid entry, no bugs (except the buggaboos eheh), no strange controls, even a title screen and a tutorial, and a concept that fit nice to the theme, with differents levels to exploit it a little bit. The piano music was good, yeah, not an incredible melody, but its fit with the game and it changes with the events, and that's a really a nice touch. Also bonus points for the character animation, even if him graphic his a stickman, there is a great effort to animate it ! Great job !

Mining Brothers: An Energetic Tale by bakudas 2017-08-02T18:08:58Z

Hi, I love the graphics they are absolutely awesome, and the music is pretty cool too. The gameplay is really exhausting for the finger but on a short game it's cool ! But the problem is you get stuck very easily and loose all your progression + need to restart the game, it's really unfair and need to be fixed (you can do this sort of thing even if the jam is over, cause it's really a need here). Pro tip: As you are on Unity, I think just add a PhysicMaterial2D on your player and even on the walls if needed will fix this problem, just put the friction coefficient to 0, and maybe add some bounciness on the player for fun and be really sure it will not be stuck. I hope you will fix this, cause I think it have good things to offer and it will be a solid entry that deserves more ratings when fixed, good luck ! (screenshot of the stuck problem:) stuck.png

Yet Another Exhausted Day by Gao Ming 2017-08-01T21:33:58Z

Olala it's awesome ! I relate to this a lot =.= zzz. It was super funny I got so much laughs for the firsts pillow jumps, and the animation and wall climbing, that was amazing. And there is serious level design and cinematographic good stuff involved. And the graphics are simple but so clean, this is a very good job, seriously I'm in love with this !! My favorite jam entry so far, it rocks !!!

Zombies 'n Kebabs by alaah 2017-08-02T13:47:16Z

Wow, the graphics are excellent, it was really cool to see (and I've liked SGNG so I found it even more cool). I would totally like to play an enhanced and less unfair (but not necessarily less hard) version of the game ! The game absolutely need something to prevent you where the dead killer ponies will be spawning (or don't permit them to damage you until they are totally out the floor). Also, it would be really useful to be able to change the direction you are facing when jumping for shoot to both sides of the screen, and it would be nice to have slighty less delay until the jump start when you press space. I still haven't beat that unkillable master dead killer pony at the east but I try hard ! (The flying killers kebabs are pure genius). So, full of references, very good graphics & animation, nice musical theme too but too unfair. Nice work tho, I hope you will made a post-event better version with more funny things and a balanced challenge ! ;)

Zombies 'n Kebabs by alaah 2017-08-02T15:59:59Z

After testing the v2, I like the changes you made for the jump+shoot and power balancing and also the spawning ponies, it's really more enjoyable to play. But when I cross the river I die everytime without seeing anything (so I supposed it's a flying killer kebab spawning right on me), also I can't jump over the pony master because of other kebabs, so even with a lot of try I haven't be able to go really far to the east and find something to beat the boss. (Or maybe it's not at the far right and I'm missing something). So I'm a bit frustrated, but good changes tho ^^.

Power de Poisson by Jajo 2017-08-01T20:46:17Z

Nice name in frenglish ahah ! Penguins and fishes are funny but the gameplay itself is not really innovative. But it's clean and finished, graphics, music, even a title screen and a game over screen, and for a ludum dare game that's nice ! Good luck for your nexts projects ! It's just a suggestion but maybe play more with the fun aspect on the game and make the penguins screams things or comment your playstyle for example, it can be great even with a simple gameplay ! You only need to find some kind of "twist" in it !

MotherBoard by nikrt 2017-08-01T19:53:47Z

"Die Facebook !!" "Die Snapchat !!" It was a really fun entry ! Nice title screen, super cool environment (seeing the phone screen as the ceiling is kinda cool), and gosh, that epic music get you involved instantly ! I've got an hard time the firts games figuring out the controls, but when you get it it's really enjoyable, even if sometimes I still don't go where I wanted to go by mistake. Nice job too for animate the apps avatars and put some graphical and sound feedbacks (even if I don't get the purpose of some particles like in the screen below, is the phone suffering ? Or it's an app avatar shooting but there is a collision problem and the particles effect is not at the right place ?). Pretty solid entry overall, gj ! particles.png

arena.sim by Rionisse 2017-08-02T17:44:09Z

Wow, I've really enjoy this game ! The music is so cool and the graphics are so neat, great jobs on the animated faces. The game really have a strong identity (especially visual), and that's awesome for a Ludum Dare entry. The AI is really well designed and hard to beat, at least at the beginning, after your figure out to dodge his bullets and let him pursuit you so you fire behind you while running and can manage to do multiple kill without loss much hp, but it's longer and you can run out of power and fall out of the zone. Even with this strategy, the game is still hard, I only manage to 12 kills !highscore.png Great job and congratulations to all the team !

Sunseeker by Surovyi 2017-08-01T21:14:58Z

Really awesome graphics, it's amazing that you were able to create all of them during the jam, great job ! Also the music, the writing police, the title screen, all of this is really really clean, nice job. But the health bar doesn't fit in term of quality regarding of all the other stuff. Also in my opinion it lacks of indicator for the king health and the magician power. But maybe I've miss them, it's a bit overwhelming because you start with a lot of enemies inside the barrier and tons of stuffs to look at: the backgrounds, the catapults, the enemies, your allies, the king, the magician. Maybe it will be easier by making the game more progressive with only the king the magician and you at the beginning, then the enemies come, and there is more and more enemies/allies/and catapults with time. Another things that could be enhance is your panel of actions and the AI, but I think I start to forgot that it's a game jam, so we have a pretty solid entry here !

Running out of steam by supremefist 2017-08-02T19:25:03Z

That's what a good Ludum Dare entry is ! Simple concept not too hard to figure out how it's works (even if the first time I was a little lost, it's relatively fast to understand what are the actions->consequences relations on differents gauges imo), one good level to explore the idea the game purpose, and a nice visual and sound design for complete it. There is even an in game tutorial and no bugs, nothing that get you out of the game when you're in. That's really neat, I've really enjoy it, it's a little hard but not frustrating (even if I fall after the last cliff, but that's because I didn't read the text under the game before play it, I'm the worst :> ) and the cute music add a lot to the game. Good job mate !

Depths of Oceania by cnoble 2017-08-02T15:42:27Z

Hi, it was already say but i'm very impressed that you have create all thoses nice 3D assets and give birth to this virtual world, and in only 48h, it's not even a Jam, it's a Compo, wowowow !! The controls could be enhanced for be more reactive and give you more the sense of being underwater, and I've got an hard time controlling the canon, but anyway that was pretty good. And the audio helps too for get you in the mood. Nice little game and solid compo entry, good job !

After the Crash by Nalozyc Shade 2017-08-03T11:21:05Z

Hi, it was a well written sad story ! It probably deserves more graphics to enhance the visual aspect of the "text-side" of the game, as you see it a lot, and smoother transitions between the differents sides of the game (or maybe not, it has an effect of something sudden, just like the car crash, so...). I don't know, but it was interesting !

The P.U.R.G.E. Protocol by hhsaez 2017-08-02T23:16:05Z

Sad that there is no audio ! The atmosphere was very interesting, I really like the 3D modelisation of the room, and wow, when I suddenly see the shadow and search where it come from I got really surprised when I see the flying corpse outside. A creepy "wow moment", but very cool ! Like @zee , I found some questions a bit innapropried, but overall it was a good experience, nice entry !

Engolasters January 2021 by Deconstructeam 2017-08-02T17:30:02Z

It's amazing, I can't believe you made this during a jam, the graphics are awesome, the story is very interesting and intriguing, and the phone is a really a smart way to have differents actions to do and keep a link with the rest of the world and the differents endings made the game replayable and really push you to replay it and explore all it have to offer. I have finish the game twice for now, but still haven't got the best ending (I've missclick on some dialogs choice bubbles (don't call when you drive, peeps...). Really great job and congratulations to all the team !

SpaceY by luckyy 2017-08-02T19:02:51Z

The game is incredibly beautiful and the sounds are really neat too ! I was just good to immerge you in that atmosphere, you have manage to create a real virtual world presence here, great job ! The animation of our tiny ship make it good too to move, even if I don't really like the controls for how you rotate your ship and stuff. Maybe it's a little too passive and lack of things to do, but for me the experience was still good, I just liked to move around and enjoy the graphics and the sound, the atmosphere. Nice entry mate, good job ! It deserves more ratings tho.

Torch Boy by FloBar 2017-08-01T20:07:23Z

Nice game ! I haven't immediatly understood that you should destroy the key cage to escape so I've try killing minions, thinking it will break them after killing them all or something. But once you figure out that you need to break the cage yourself, it's a lot harder but you can finish the game really quickly. The concept is interesting, it's too bad there is only one level, it will be really cool with some twists on this base concept (but it's a game jam so it's normal and it means it's good :] ). Really clean for a compo, the graphics, the sounds, you even took time for make a title screen and a tutorial, that's awesome !

a story about a cat by increpare 2017-08-02T19:47:36Z

Try to not cry... cry a lot. I'm not gonna say you "congratulations" cause you broke my heart... :'( But "nice" game tho, I really like the atmosphere and the graphics, it's amazing how you've create a credible world place from nothing in... gosh, only 48 hours (I just see it's a compo and not a jam). And there is also some sound design to dress up the game a little bit. It's a 5 stars Graphics and Mood for me. Also it was really enjoyable to climb on stuff especially people's head, but the very first objective was hard to figure out. Not really a problem tho, it's cool to just search and explore, and adapted to a cat. So good job mate, but why did you have to broke my heart ?? I hope there is a secret good ending. :'(

When the world goes to hell, I'll be here playing Video Games. by Will Walters 2017-08-01T18:41:21Z

Woah, I got really surprised ! Nice twist. I didn't expected to be sad at the end of a cute looking game like this ahah. Also I haven't experienced any lags, works fine for me (and I don't have an awesome machine).

DRAIN by LERPish 2017-08-02T16:23:09Z

Awesome graphics and animations ! The cutscene at the beginning make me think about thoses "old but gold" flashgames that are cool but are like "yeah, look how cool I am !! 8] ". It was really nice and fun ! The gameplay itself is a bit strange, I don't know I don't really get it, I don't find the slow time power really useful and it's easier and less power consuming to just stay on left click (but it's faster to kill by clicking a lot, but really too power consuming). Anyway, it's still a pretty solid entry imo, I've loved the atmosphere !

Space Rescue. My first Jam game by Joskineide 2017-08-02T20:24:37Z

Woah, the concept is super cool, and the realisation of it is pretty nice ! Interesting levels, and neat graphics and sounds, I love it ! Could use more mecanics to add more twists and complex level design, but that's for a more complete game maybe, not for a ludum dare, it's really complete in the current state imo ! Deserves way more ratings (and good ones). I really like it ! I'm gonna try to finished it now, I've only saved 24 persons on my best run (with a strategy focused on saving the most battery possible, instead of saving every person of every level like I was doing before). Great job !

Suicide Watch by MrJotubes 2017-08-01T22:15:45Z

Wow, we have almost the same pitch for our games, but a different treatment, that's cool to see ! I would have liked more text when the game really start for get you still/more involved. Also when it starts it's a bit overwhelming, you don't really know what to do, but it's cool to figure out what to do too so it would be nice to just make the differents actions possibles more clear. So a bit more visual coherence between the differents graphics assets would be great for this and for have a stronger visual identity too. Anyway, it's a pretty solid entry, even more when you take in consideration that it's your first ludum dare, great job to all the team !

Theresa Dreams of Wheat by essell 2017-08-02T22:59:00Z

Oh boy, I've got so much trouble rendering 3D text that can't be see everywhere and only on one side (not for this jam, but for older unity projects), I'm sorry that I didn't remember where I have find a solution, it has take me a lot of research and I wish I could gain time for you :(. I think it was only done by a shader, not even a script, but I'm not sure... Anyway, the game was really funny, didn't know that Theresa May fun fact. Very original twist on the theme ! Great job on the sound design tho, with all the peeps talking and with the sound volume evolving between rooms and distances.

Exo by exo 2017-08-01T19:06:28Z

The graphics are pretty good, I love that power stealing animation ! The music is good too, too bad that you run out of time to finished it. It lacks of things to do and a nice level for explores differents possibilities granted by stealing enemies power when killing them, that's a cool concept. Also it really needs a game over + restart function, and I don't like really much the jump (maybe change gravity or add a short time where you can still jump if you are quitting the ground can help, but maybe it's just a matter of personal preferences here). And a last thing: Imo, the purpose of ludum dare, no, of game jams, no of the whole gamedev is TO RUN OUT OF TIME TO FINISH. Good luck for your futures projects :).
