LD45 — Start with nothing

Are you there? by limered 2019-10-07T22:53:48Z

I love the 2d paper-crafty style of the game. It's moody and cohesive. I also love how all the characters say their words (and the fact that there are multiple voice recordings for each word). It's a difficult game, the blue megahit guys tend to always get me at least once. There's also a bug with the treasure chest room that softlocks the game (you can't leave). I also had one occasion where enemies from another room ran through the wall (this might have been because I activated a room as I died)

Edge of Twilight by OccultOne 2019-10-15T01:40:14Z

I enjoyed my time with it; really reminded me of Frostpunk and I appreciate how we start without resources so the very first thing we have to do is knock down a building. I think it'd be a lot easier to get start the game if we were notified about the ability to demolish buildings first thing (maybe directly indicating the toy factory). I feel like we're intended to knock down the toy factory first since it gives so many resources and produces very little happiness, but I think it'd help reinforce the idea behind the game to make the choice a little less simple. Maybe greatly increasing the happiness production of the building so that we get an immediate, obvious feedback for destroying it (notably nothing would actually change about how the game starts, but the big change in happiness would help nail home the impact of our decisions early on).

Liberation by Light by Yaroslav Kravtsov 2019-10-08T00:26:15Z

I also found the movie theater, love it. I mostly enjoyed my time with the game; the controls were a little slidey which made it somewhat fiddley to try and guide the wisp into the lanterns. I feel like holding q doesn't work. Whenever I hold q instead of just tapping it I enter meditation mode when I press it, then leave it when I let go. I would also love a button to teleport my astral spirit back to me. It feels like I have to walk everywhere twice.

Seedling by mechanicallife 2019-10-09T01:05:00Z

I loved it, it's a great relaxing game to play. I just wish the jetpack canceled downward momentum like it does in most games; helps it feel better when you don't use it immediately after jumping.

Chad's Revenge by loadsofmana 2019-10-07T23:16:21Z

It feels like it could be a fun rpg. It starts off so slow though. The way that enemies respawn mean that you can't really get anywhere until you can deal enough damage to kill them faster than they respawn (unless you want to damage boost through, but then you just end up underleveled for everything after that). It's a very grindy game, though I understand that animations and enemy types could give variety in the future.

Over The Threshold by redcubegames 2019-10-09T23:04:44Z

The art reminded me of some of the old flash point'n'click adventures. When it tells you to press 'a' to move left, it's not immediately obvious that you have to press and hold for a couple of seconds. It seemed like nothing was happening when I pressed it. If you started the character just off to the right of the screen it'd be more obvious that everything is working properly.

P L A G U E T I M E by bruins 2019-10-08T01:02:38Z

It was fun once I figured out what to do. The pixel art animation is lovely and amazingly complete. It's '2' to equip the hatchet and '1' to unequip anything. You also don't left click to swing tools, you just kinda wiggle around the mouse. There were a few things that felt awkward. I don't really like wiggling to use tools, I just end up with my character spazzing out as I swipe the mouse across his face. There's also a weird thing with resources not being picked up until I leave their hitbox and re-enter. This is probably because only onEnter is used to detect collisions. I also found that I could stand on top of the slimes and they couldn't hit me which was weird. All the little things aside it was fun to play.

Cast Away by OrdiNeu 2019-10-08T02:57:22Z

It was a really fun and complete game (that complete bit is actually somewhat rare in LD so good job). I love the tradeoff you built into the game between building defences and upgrading weapons vs saving up for the ship. There's the potential for a neat bit of give and take with nights getting more difficult the longer we take. I don't think we should be able to mash our way through trees though. The day progresses in realtime, but my tree smashing ability is linked to how willing I am to kill my hand (hint: extremely willing). I was able to gather so much wood and rocks that that tradeoff tragically disappeared. I think linking the chopping of trees to just a held button and a fixed time would help solve the issue.

Fanfare Fantasy by Valden 2019-10-07T23:08:18Z

I loved it; always up for a good rhythm game. Amazingly polished and it feels good to play. This is the first LD game I played to completion so far. One knitpick is that pressing up and down at the same time is amazingly awkward on certain keyboards. Also, since the arrow receivers are at the edge of the of the diamond and new arrows spawn at the center, I found my eyes getting dragged around and pinging around the screen. I got used to it, but it was very distracting for the first few minutes.

Rolley Sh❤t by Andreas Roschal 2019-10-07T23:36:17Z

Oh my god it has a loading bar and an animated start screen. How the heck did you guys find time for that? Also great game.

Where are my groceries!? by JoshuaDolman 2019-10-08T23:00:12Z

Congrats on getting a game out, it's not easy to throw together a game in 48 hours (and sometimes having more teammates can actually make it harder). If you changed the wording on the cow sign from "bring" to "chase" I think people would understand faster.

Cave by Team-on 2019-10-09T22:53:30Z

The pixel art is great; I love the fire animations. It'd be nice to break things by either clicking once or click and hold.

Raiders of the Lost Bark by Moritz Jaeger 2019-10-08T01:16:18Z

It's a cute game, I love the 2d store stalls, but I just felt like I didn't really know what I was supposed to be doing. I explored around as much as I could, but all I could find was more treasure. It was difficult to tell if I was actually intended to go in a certain direction, or if it was just an empty area ahead of me and I was wasting my time by exploring it.

Gardening Take Over by zachabossaloler 2019-10-08T22:23:45Z

It's an interesting idea to take away direct control of our weapon. I think it'd be more interesting if the sword orbited further away from us. Also, as everyone else has already mentioned, check the trigger box on the sword's collider.

Updates by MarcoMing 2019-10-07T23:51:44Z

It's a neat idea. I wish I had a bigger screen size size to start with so that I'd get a chance to see the moving 1's before I ran into them.

ClockFall by lzklein 2019-10-07T23:26:41Z

The link seems to be fixed? I was able to download and play the game. The modelling is gorgeous, I love the little rotating clockwork enemies and the giant cogs in the stage. The game slows down a bit when I spawn the maximum number of enemies, especially when I start to destroy some of them. I somehow managed to get myself squished upwards and ended up running above everyone's head.

In the Beginning by shadow30 2019-10-08T00:13:47Z

I liked it. It was a weirdly relaxing arcade game. As other people have said the prediction element adds a nice bit of challenge and I like how you motivate risky shots with more points.

World of Nothing by DS Nahogara 2019-10-08T23:56:23Z

It feels like it could be a cool game. I'm not sure if the screen shake is intended or not, but it's a little nauseating. I'm also not sure what all of the buildings do, a little text blurb when you hover over them would go a long way to making the game easier to understand.

OH GOD! by SideKick 2019-10-08T00:38:59Z

So I got as far as the quiz room where I got softlocked (nothing showed up when I went through the door, just the background). Overall it's got a cute design, I like how the earth in the background changes. The maze game and the PK starstorm were kinda tedious. I also feel like the caesar game would be really hard for touchpad users. It's an impressive amount of content for a jam game.

Soul Corrupter by supercannon 2019-10-08T00:49:19Z

I like how we're incentivized to move from circle to circle since keeping our speed means we get to draw a new circle faster. Getting hit does feel a little arbitrary at times, it's difficult to dodge when we're swinging around in a circle. It also feels awful when we run into a pillar while swing around since we not only lose our circle, we also drop all of our momentum. Overall I liked it, as someone who's played the attack on titan fan game it's a lot of fun to fly around on a tether.

P.O.S.E.V.Y - [CROPS] by Banana090 2019-10-07T22:44:40Z

So, as posted above, the game doesn't fit my screen. However, you can fix this by zooming out in your browser (typically ctrl and +/-). This game reminds me a lot of Atomicrops and the GUI and art is amazingly polished for an LD jam. It took me a minute to realize I could punch things if I switched to an empty inventory slot. Otherwise it's a good start to what could be a really fun game!

Blob of nothing by Zanthous 2019-10-08T23:16:06Z

I love that enemies can also pick up parts. I actually managed to softlock myself :face_palm: I killed the enemy by pushing them down into the spikes and the part went into the spikes and I had to reload. That aside I had fun!

Spellody by EvilScotsman 2019-10-09T00:14:39Z

It was fun, it reminded me of playing Magicka; mixing different "elements" to get different effects. When I got the chance to use more notes, sometimes I actually wished that I could go back to just using one or two (especially for the sphere enemies who get one-shot anyways). Maybe if we let go without selecting the maximum number of notes we could still get the effect.
