LD36 — Ancient Technology

MagiTech by Green_Cafe 2016-08-29T22:56:00

It is very broken, but I know you guys are already aware of that! A cool experience I had from it was walking into a room and being swarmed by the enemies who proceeded to murder me.

I think one of the highest priority things to implement at the moment is an explanation for the combat system because I was not able to figure it out.

The Pogo Stick of Power by SbstnC 2016-08-30T00:14:00

I love the hand drawn style of this game. The controls are also spot on, it took a second to get used to but once I realized that "oh yea, I have to jump to move on a pogo stick" it was perfect. The control over the jump height is also perfect.

Hitboxes on enemies were a bit big and I found myself getting aggravated at them.

The end was super cute, and I liked that we had to play the "cutscene" ourselves. This is one of my favorites so far.

CaveThumb by joelthebergman 2016-08-30T00:33:00

This really through me back to Spykids ;) very good game but a little laggy on my computer

CIty of Sand by Uruca Games 2016-08-29T22:44:00

Absolutely beautiful art and sound for this game. The gameplay seems slightly more lacking as a lot of the difficulty is just trying to get the blocks to do what you want. Other than that it's great!

Pre-ARC by Geruhn 2016-08-31T22:06:00

I would have liked to play this, but the smart phone requirement was too much. I wonder if this type of gaming will catch on ever?

Ancient Tower Defense by Gulyasarni66 2016-08-29T23:44:00

The code is very good, but the graphics could be updated just a bit. I really enjoy how you can load the game(great touch) very very well done

Rolling Time by austintradr 2016-08-30T00:16:00

@Vaiaphraim, Thank you so much for playing, glad you enjoyed :)

Rolling Time by austintradr 2016-08-30T00:26:00

@AWOL On Windows the 'RollingTime.exe' is the file you want to open (after you've extracted the contents). On Mac, extract the contents and just open the app itself. Hope this helped! If it didn't I'll come to you with my laptop and we can play.

Rolling Time by austintradr 2016-08-30T00:27:00

@AWOL, you have to download go into the file, extract and then play, hope it starts to work

Rolling Time by austintradr 2016-08-30T00:28:00

Thank you so much @thatsBamboo

Rolling Time by austintradr 2016-08-30T00:29:00

@Teekeks could you tell me a little more about what's going on with the map not reseting? I haven't seen this issue myself. Thanks!

Dig Dig Revolution by LittleDoomDevs 2016-08-31T22:36:00

Interesting idea, but moving in time to the beat really did not work out. First of all I found it far more effective to just spam the direction I wanted to go until I happened to go that way. If you look at the game Crypt of the Necrodancer, their action with the beat works because the entire game functions with the beat as you essentially dance around enemies and time your attacks accordingly. The combination of it with just running around collecting objects in the ground did not work thematically or gameplay wise.

Cave (man) Story by Culturebosh_games 2016-08-31T22:51:00

Super impressive submission. I loved the menu first of all, it was awesome and interactive and also taught the core mechanic of the game instantly. The sound effects and extra characters really made me feel immersed. So glad I played this!

The Awakening of the Golem by DragonZBW (SparkLight Games) 2016-08-30T00:41:00

This game is awesome, I burst out laughing when this massive robot just pops up in the middle of these dudes camping and they all peace out. I had a great time running around slaughtering them, I wish they were slightly slower than you so you could catch them, but it was fun anyway and the laser animation is awesome. Then I came back here and read that there is an end game so I immediately loaded it back up.

The ending is good, I like all the statistics that you're given. Very enjoyably experience all around.

Ancient Techno-ology by elli 2016-08-30T01:44:00

I've been leaving fairly in depth reviews, but for this game, I don't even know what I just played, but I know I enjoyed it.

Search Treasure By Amine Tcherak by Amine Tcherak 2016-08-30T00:01:00

I think you should try alternate control layouts, consider all the keys that do things (other than arrow keys) be on one row together for a natural hand position. I also could not tell if fighting was occurring other than possibly the enemy health going down? Or mine? A lot of elements weren't totally clear, so think about that. It's a good first attempt though!

Cave Defender by boddiul 2016-08-30T00:30:00

Really love the game, but I would of really loved different weapon types

Sepulcrum by blackcode 2016-08-31T22:25:00

Very well polished, the intro was especially impressive! The puzzles themselves were not terribly interesting, but the art that went into them was great. I also enjoyed the difficulty curve with the way that it rapidly scaled up.

Also this is a more personal thing, but you should still consider your colorblind audience. The color adding puzzle was essentially impossible for me to complete and it ate away at my time with guesses.

My house is over there by kyyninen 2016-08-31T21:56:00

I love the atmosphere, it really feels like I could be walking around a quaint neighborhood at night. I think the idea of a simple exploration game like this is very interesting, especially with that fact that there wasn't obvious guidance.

The Huckster by MrBrenan 2016-08-29T23:50:00

Super cool, the intro was very impressive and I love the narration. I was playing the web version so this may have been fixed, but there are many spelling and grammatical errors in the subtitles and speech. Not a huge deal but it hurt the immersion. Also a recommendation to use another key than E to hold things when needing to move with WASD, it's hard especially to move forward while grabbing on. Otherwise this is insanely polished for 72 hours and I'm impressed.

Decimus Maximus by mihaivdev 2016-08-31T21:49:00

Good concept, I like the idea of a gladiator arena battle but with the ancient weapons. Unfortunately I don't believe it was not executed as well as it could have been. The controls were not intuitive and felt very uncomfortable and unsatisfying. Since movement is part of the combat, it needs to feel fluent and reliable. The catapult actually does nothing and cannot be aimed other than direction so it would actually be better to not have it. There was also no apparent way to exit the game, at least during gameplay. I'd love to see a game like this work, keep at it!

Azymuth by Geckoo1337 2016-08-29T23:37:00

I really like the concept, a pure speedrun game like this is something I've always wanted. I think the biggest issue is the controls though, it adds a layer of difficulty that really shouldn't be there, just trying to move properly. Overall great game, I like the high scores implementation too!

Blood Sacrifice by concalf 2016-08-29T23:54:00

Really love gameplay, but it does need a little tweaking. The game design is cool though

Blowin' Around The World! by Coomzy 2016-08-29T23:46:00

AWESOME game!!! For three day, this is very well put together. This game also made me laugh great job

Airship Journey by vmunhoz 2016-08-30T00:00:00

Absolutely amazing, but I would increase the speed of the ships. Also I loved the explosion, super cool

Temple Quest by Vaiaphraim 2016-08-30T01:36:00

I really like the music, but the gameplay seemed fairly lacking. Certain parts in the levels were very difficult and precise and no checkpoints was unforgiving. The intro text was also at a hard to read angle.

Sorry for nitpicking!

Flamethrowing Dynamite Wizards on Ice by richardjs 2016-08-30T00:32:00

Really cool submission. Would love to see the movements become smoother

ArsonVille by Graham Weldon 2016-08-30T00:25:00

Sick concept. Graphics were A1, When I completed the first map I was a little upset because I thought it was only one map, then I discovered you can play all new maps. Amazing game

Ancient Switchboard by Narkhos 2016-08-31T22:11:00

Interesting game, but unless you are familiar with Conway's Game of Life it makes essentially no sense. I'd recommend having maybe a small tutorial or at least explain the mechanics in some way.

It seems that you made your own sound effects which is cool, but they are very rough. The puzzle complete sound was headache inducing and far too loud compared to the rest of the game. Consider polishing them a little more to balance with the rest.

Also it's "Frozen" not "Freezed" :)

Goblin Defence! by Senor Salty 2016-08-30T00:06:00

I love the menu! I am a sucker for animated menus.

The sound design overall is pretty rough, I found myself reaching for the mute button very quickly. The enemies seem to have a little too much health, I could rarely knock them down in time despite spamming arrows into them. Also consider making your fonts a little crisper, pixelated text is harsh on the eyes.

I can see it being very fun with a bit of polish and shine though!

Angry Bullets by maartene 2016-08-29T23:05:00

Solid game, I like the take on the classic genre with being able to move the catapult. I'd encountered a few troublesome scenarios: I had clicked the mouse after the shot+destruction was done, but before the camera was all the way back and it shot the ball right at the foot of the cannon. Also when a ball was rolling very slowly it took a while for the round to reset. Maybe have an exception for these?

Otherwise, like it was already said, very chill game!

20000 Pixels Into The Sea by blinry 2016-08-29T23:45:00

Awesome game, I was immediately impressed upon opening it. The controls aren't very intuitive, though I'm sure if I was a sailor they would be. I'd recommend maybe a bit more instruction and a bigger pick up radius for the people.

Wheel Warrior by Shatter Point Studios 2016-08-31T22:30:00

Interesting idea, and I understand what you guys were going for, but it really was not fun to play. Having to hold spacebar just to play the game is not an extra task I want to do, and the fact that you have to change the batteries interrupts the endless runner in an unexpected and intrusive way. The runner itself was not very fun either - to justify the annoying mechanics, the game needs to be extra fun, which it wasn't. In turn I quickly turned it off.

On the other hand the graphics are undoubtedly awesome, and I did definitely appreciate the child's voice sound effect.

Sprite Warrior by monkeybit29 2016-08-31T22:04:00

The combat seems like a lot of fun, but the intro hallway was far too long and the character moves far too slowly. I was bored pretty quickly from all the walking.

Monolith by maskinmask 2016-08-29T22:45:00

it's broken but looks good :))
