It certainly is the art that drew me in to try the game, very nice! Smart move to help the player with those arrows, it certainly helped me, that's for sure! The sound when you're almost out of oxygen is a little annoying, I don't want to know what that sounded like in the HTML5 version with broken sfx... Anyway, overall a well put together little game. Good job, keep it up!

jacky-san 2025-04-09 09:27

@shores thank you very much for this feedback ! Much appreciated ! :)

greenradiation 2025-04-09 10:48

Very nice game, very polished! At first I didn't understand that I needed to navigate by the arrows for oxygen, and because of this I went down very quickly. In the end I only took oxygen once and immediately finished the game. At least it seemed to me that there was only 1 level in the game. Very cool graphics, I love this style, and the design is very well maintained. Great job!

jacky-san 2025-04-09 11:59

@greenradiation thank you so much for this feedback ! :) Yes, the game is not very long once you understand what to do !

tive 2025-04-09 17:05

I really dig this artstyle :)

mrmanguy 2025-04-09 17:16

Amazing, I can't believe this was your first time trying out the 1bit art style. You conveyed so much with it.

slay-a-stone 2025-04-09 17:16

Looks very cool, impressive art! Oxygen did go down really fast, it felt I did not have enough time to reach the oxygen spots. Especially when you needed to 'wait' to go down.

jacky-san 2025-04-09 17:33

@tive @mrmanguy @slay-a-stone thank you for your feedback !

monogatari 2025-04-09 18:03

Great artwork ! Music is really cool too and the sfx fits perfectly ! The gamefeel is pleasant thanks for the game ! =)

510 2025-04-09 18:11

I came here for the art style (pretty neat!) and I was able to enjoy a short play! Good job on the level design as well.

That's the kind of mini-games I like in a jam. Endless possible improvements in the future ;)

beebster-games 2025-04-09 18:46

You did a very nice job with the game. It runs well, it was hard to play, the graphics were cool, music was outstanding.

The only thing, and this is a common thread in jams in general, there was no way to escape out of the game. I had to bring up Task Manager' and kill the process to get out of the game.

Othere than that it was superior

jacky-san 2025-04-09 19:10

Thank you so much for your feedback !!! @monogatari @510 @beebster-games

piero-pbes-studio 2025-04-09 21:12

oh my another submarine game like my game !!!! sorry but i don't have a pc windows game to test it... i'm so sad

jacky-san 2025-04-09 21:15

@piero-pbes-studio sorry about that, we'll try to make a debugged HTML5 version soon

kamuniaft 2025-04-09 21:29

This is sooo good! I really enjoyed it. There may not be a ton of mechanics or details, but what’s there feels super polished and fits together really well. I especially loved the moment where you launch out of the water in that little submarine, then just lie on the ground to catch your breath - like some kind of sea creature :D Soundtrack and effects are very well done and artstyle is solid. Awesome work guys!

jacky-san 2025-04-09 21:36

@kamuniaft Thank you so much ! I'm really happy you appreciate it, honestly it was a certain challenge for us, first time we tried to make a game just a team of 2 (usually 4 guys in our team...).

ngryyyyy 2025-04-09 21:52

Very cooool congrats on the game :D

jelch 2025-04-09 22:07

Hello fellow submarine-game-made-in-godot! Love the graphics and the music, great vibes!

disvent 2025-04-09 22:09

I really love how your game looks and sounds, but it's really hard — I couldn't make it to the second oxygen point :(

jacky-san 2025-04-09 22:15

@ngryyyyy @jelch @disvent thanks !

@disvent this should not be this hard, once you understood how the submarine engine works ;)

batisdark 2025-04-09 22:18

Hmm, I seem to be confused with level. Each place that leads to oxygen (except the first one) is too far away to reach it. There are conflicting arrows to follow. Some pointing right, some left, but both were impossible to follow, since oxygen was depleting much faster (I couldn't even see new air pockets!). Not sure how people manage this one.

Art is really nice though! And music is a banger! I would tune all the effects down a bit - they are really sharp and loud and I would apreciate to hear that music over them personally

nuin 2025-04-09 22:18

@jacky-san I can't get to the second oxegyn I don't have enough time!!! What do I do?

exofrenon 2025-04-09 22:33

That is a great game title

Very straight forwward implementation of the theme. I loved the 1-bit pixel art graphics, simple but effective in setting the mood, along with the very fitting omnious music. The controls felt tight and the level was nicely designed, the arrow directions were a nice touch. Polished too.

A nice little Ludum Dare submission that feels like a vertical cut of a larger game.

jacky-san 2025-04-10 00:04

@batisdark thank you for this feedback !! hmm not sure to understand the problem, but you're not the first one to indicate O2 refills are too far from each other. I do not really know why it is a problem for some players ^^' Did you notice O2 refill is not immediate when you're in air pocket ? You have to wait to be fully refilled (sound fx is helping here). Arrows should always help you find correct paths and avoid incorrect ones. Maybe that can also help you @nuin (second oxygen pocket is really close to the beginning on the right). @exofrenon Thanks so much <3 You're right, we are pretty motivated to do a larger scale game with this first shot :)

nuin 2025-04-10 02:17

@jacky-san After the second oxygen pocket there's no way to get to the next one in time unless I'm just braindead haha

batisdark 2025-04-10 03:07

Second pocket is right next to first one, yes, but other than that there were no pockets I was able to reach. And yes, I was filling oxygen till its full...

apoly 2025-04-10 04:07

@jacky-san here's example of me not being able to reach third pocket: https://youtu.be/DYmvVVMzC9M

batisdark 2025-04-10 05:07

I wasn't even able to go to that one @apoly managed to reach. My ship is dying halfway through it... there is definatelly something wrong with it, since I do same movements with full oxy tank...

batisdark 2025-04-10 06:39

Sorry that bothering you, but its such a cool bug and so mysterious. At first I though that my screen resolution is the issue (4k monitor and have a lot of issues with scaling and such in jams), but we tried changing resolution and it doesn't help. So here is how it looks at my end https://youtu.be/I7JAOtNmrVw

jacky-san 2025-04-10 10:01

@Batisdark @apoly @NuiN Hi guys, thank you again for your tests ! Really appreciated :) I just had a discussion with my brother @notsu (the game coder) concerning this problem , seems we might have a problem in the time calculation : it seems not to be a fixed update between each O2 depleted tick, making it faster on higher CPU configuration and slower on less powerful configuration. Leading to all the problems you noticed ^^' We'll try to make an update in the coming days (as well as an HTML5 working export).

texugo 2025-04-10 12:09

The art? BEAUTIFUL. I love the UI and the vibes. Nice gameplay, I got some problems with the oxygen time as well but was able to have some fun with it! Congrats on the game

jacky-san 2025-04-10 12:19

@texugo thank you :D

lyamgtt 2025-04-10 21:12

OMG the art style look amazing !!

mamboman 2025-04-10 21:42

Well done! The graphics are amazing!

jacky-san 2025-04-11 12:37

@lyamgtt @mamboman Thanks :grin:

@batisdark @apoly @NuiN hello guys, we just released a patch version if you want to try gain

@piero-pbes-studio we now have a correct HTML5 version if you want to test it

apoly 2025-04-11 16:01

@jacky-san yep, that version works perfectly, it even feels a bit too easy, I have only refilled my oxygen once. Thanks for the patch, nice game!

jacky-san 2025-04-11 16:27

@apoly thx ! Yes we should definitely tweak somehow the difficulty a bit in future releases ! As well as expand this first level a little bit, and adding tons of other ideas :star2:

neowhoru 2025-04-11 17:57

The art style is really great and the music matches perfectly the game. The controls work also flawless but i miss something like a goal..you drive from oygen to oygen but you also could try to get directly to the goal. So its a bit short but it is super polished.

jacky-san 2025-04-11 18:08

@neowhoru thank you for this feedback  I absolutly agree that it is a bit short and lacks a bit of challenge, we'd like to continue to develop this game and improve it.

velis69 2025-04-11 18:40

Wooooooooooooooow i really love that retro art style in your game! 5! Check my retro shooter and rate too, comrade!

jacky-san 2025-04-11 18:45

@velis69 Thank you ! I'll do it comrade !

nuin 2025-04-11 18:51

@jacky-san It works now, nice!

nuclearextravaganza 2025-04-11 18:54

ahhh i'm in love with the graphics т_т it was a very decent play, thank you for your work!

pcho 2025-04-11 18:55

I really love the art! Nice gameplay, good job!

jacky-san 2025-04-11 19:09

@nuin thank you to have come back to test the game

@nuclearextravaganza @pcho thank you so much guys

ammonit 2025-04-12 04:04

Pixel art makes my irises square, then my eyeballs, and soon my whole head turns into one big pixel! — It’s amazing! The fish skeletons are a special charm.

jacky-san 2025-04-12 09:18

@ammonit oh thank you for your kind comment, btw the fish skeleton was one the first tile I wanted to have in the game

coderaurus 2025-04-12 12:25

Good entry. Music amplifies the dark, underwater adventure nicely. Gameplay is okay though I wished you could make an impact to submerging by pressing down. Saw some comments about the distances for oxygen zones and do agree that they are kind of far compared to the tank you have.

I like how the game looks. The important UI components kind of get lost in the noise, I would try giving the bit more space to stand out.

Well don, guys.

leorean 2025-04-12 12:56

Amazing little game! I love the 2-color art-style - the music is also quite mesmerizing and really captures the theme. Great job!

jacky-san 2025-04-12 20:05

@CodeRaurus @leorean thank you for your feedback !

@coderaurus yes we agree with my bro that thruster should not work this way and maybe have something more 360° without breaking the current feeling. Your remark on UI is also on the way, as there is only 2 colors, the important UI should be more visible !

sangheli 2025-04-13 00:02

A pleasant mini-game, simple in concept and easy to pick up. I like the 8-bit style graphics and the NES/GameBoy vibe — the rules are easy to understand, it’s such a cozy game.

I’d also like to suggest this icon for your game.

Screenshot 2025-04-13 03.52.36.png

jacky-san 2025-04-13 07:59

@sangheli thank you for your feedback and for the icon suggestion but i'd rather prefer a 1bit palette+square one

clink 2025-04-13 18:15

I'm a big fan of the overlay around the edges of the screen, it really helps sell the idea of being within a submarine. The submarine itself looks absolutely adorable, especially when flopping around on land. The limited colour palette was a very nice self-imposed constraint, and one that I think ended up working to the benefit of the project. A simple look for a simple game.

Also, I've noticed that it's possible to reach the end of the level without ever stopping for air by simply continuing to go straight down. Not sure if that was an intended feature? I personally might have preferred for the path leading to the goal to be a little more convoluted, but other than that, I've got no notes. Great job all around!

aune 2025-04-13 18:35

Very cool entry. Well executed and bonus point for the incredible music that feats really well the mood. I managed to go to the bottom. Good job!

jacky-san 2025-04-13 20:16

@clink Thank you so much for this detailed feedback ! About level design, we are aware of this design problem, the path to the finish was made in the last hours of the project, with the help signs indicating O2 refills because we thought it was too hard at the beginning but finally it is too easy  and no, to answer honestly it was not intended to be doable in a straight way :sob:

jacky-san 2025-04-13 20:20

@aune Thank you !! Music took me about one and a half hour, my first idea was to use a "tracker" style software with 8bit or 16bit constraints (NES/SNES) to have something in the same mood as the 1bit pixelart, but due to the lack of time I had to choose a more simple approach with a software I was using for years, sometimes you can take risks sometimes not  (but i really want to try to remake the music on a tracker to see if it fits better the general mood)

j-rara 2025-04-15 11:47

Really great concept and fun! The O2 bug in first version really made me sweat, but I managed to find the end before drowning . I love the art style and audio was perfect. Great job!

jacky-san 2025-04-15 22:23

@j-rara Thank you  and really happy that you got fun on the game

egor-iv 2025-04-16 10:35

Nice graphics, I'd like to collect resources along the way or have an endless bottom to set a record.

euler-moises 2025-04-17 03:14

Quick and to the point!

I loved the art and the choice of the 2-bit palette. The music is really cool too.

I look forward to more internships. :)

Congratulations!

librory 2025-04-17 17:59

Very charming small game) like visuals and sounds, it could become something more for sure) Great job!

jacky-san 2025-04-17 19:39

@egor-iv @euler-moises @librory thanks guys ! :smiley:

ditam 2025-04-18 18:32

Very nicely polished, excellent visuals and audio. I wish there was a bit more to do - I'd love to see a more challenging post-jam version with the same music and graphics. I feel like this could go in many directions from here: the music felt a bit darker and atmospheric, while the sound effects and game mechanics made it feel a bit more arcade-y. The monochrome aesthetic could certainly work for a more serious game, but the "frame" made everything look a bit retro and silly, as if you were not present in the scene, just looking at some retro handheld device...

I don't mean any of this as a critique - somehow this all works very well together as is!

jacky-san 2025-04-18 18:41

@ditam oh thank you so much  yes we are surely going to make a real game from this early prototype

shadyshade 2025-04-18 20:14

Hey, that was pretty fun and cute looking game! Nice job! :gift_heart:

piero-pbes-studio 2025-04-18 20:29

Done it's tested and finished... I really liked the atmosphere and obviously the whole artistic side, the graphics, the sounds and the music, the UI is very cool... but what I preferred was jumping with the submarine out of the water like a beached fish... so funny and also the little square bubbles when you accelerate mmh I love it (I think I'm going to steal the idea from you)

jacky-san 2025-04-18 21:21

@shadyshade @piero-pbes-studio thanks guys ! @piero-pbes-studio You can steal the idea

ace17 2025-04-18 21:35

Really cool, I loved it, from start to finish!

The controls are solid, the sub is satisfying to maneuver, the game is fun, and, in particular ... great job on the music! it's very convincing, and it sets a tense mood, that is perfect for a game were you're in constant danger of running out of oxygen ...

The choice of 1-bit pixelated graphics, with old-school 8-bit SFX ... might clash a little with the music, I dunno ... ( I do the same, I'm not gonna complain! ). Maybe a slight reverb on the SFX might help to blend them with the soundscape, and reinforce the player's ... immersion :-)

I would happily play a longer ( deeper? ) version!

tygrak 2025-04-18 21:37

Short and sweet! Nice sound design and great graphics :)

johnnysix 2025-04-18 22:11

Great stuff, loved the art style and the attention to detail on the UI. Very cool. The music was great too, reminded me of the old Zyrinx games.

momotiktik 2025-04-19 11:36

Aaah, it's such a cute little game! Definitely didn't trigger my mario world water levels trauma with the controls :D I really liked the style and how everything is super clear, nice overall!

yorsh 2025-04-19 12:06

Small game but it's complete and feels great! Graphics are really nice, it got nice audio and mood. The gameplay works really well, it's simple and fun.

I think it's a rare case of the content being just a bit short. I would love to see either multiple levels, procedural generation, a bigger level, stuff to find...Tho it's still much better to have a great game with too little content than the opposite.

Great work!

jacky-san 2025-04-19 22:46

@ace17 @tygrak @johnnysix @momotiktik @yorsh Thank you so much guys, I really appreciate the time you spend on the game and the time you spend on rating & commenting, glad you liked the experience

@ace17 yes you're right, about SFX, a little reverb will certainly make it blend with the rest of the soundscape  thanks !

@yorsh we're planning to work on something a bit longer than this prototype !

phasmantic 2025-04-21 03:19

Amazing job with the pixel art. Simple enough concept, but great implementation!

jacky-san 2025-04-21 23:13

@phasmantic thank you :smiley:

jacobingalls 2025-04-23 05:11

Amazing! Art, Music, Polish amazing. My one nit (if can all it that) is it's too short! I can get to the end without much navigation, and don't need to refill O2. Really like the feel; and again, music is spot on.

jacky-san 2025-04-23 12:37

@jacobingalls thank you for give it a try and your nice feedback ! Yes, game is waayy too short, we'll fix that very soon
