fun idea!

munchie-games 2024-10-08 12:31

Plays well, I like the idea. With some polish it could be a proper game. I think you should add mouse controls, it would feel really good.

zwartraider 2024-10-08 13:59

This game is such a great total package! The visuals and presentation are excellent. But the gameplay is also introduced at a good pace: the game guides you on the mechanics side, what button to press and so on. You are then free to figure out a strategy and learn as you go. I really like it!

giraffalope 2024-10-08 14:01

The enemy kept getting amazing rolls. :'( Really cool game + ruleset though! I could see it becoming a full lil game on steam. :) I loved the mix of 2D + 3D for the board as well. Only thing that confused me was the change in aspect ratios at the beginning. Really great work!

j-rara 2024-10-08 14:06

Nice idea. Music and artwork makes me think of Stronghold. Adding more complex bug movements could add some depth to the strategizing. Also, the controls could be improved.

mrjimbles 2024-10-08 14:13

That was genuinely fire. The 3d mix with sprite art was great, the gameplay was simple but fun, my only gripe was that the turns could go a little faster and maybe mouse control would have been a better call. Other than that though, it was a great idea really well executed.

antti-haavikko 2024-10-08 14:20

Very fun! Didn't even check the help pics you had posted and only took a round or two to fully grasp the idea of it. Very intuitive!

Pretty cool visuals. Nice mix of 2D and 3D though I don't really think the 3D gave anything to the game really besides funky dice. Really liked the pixel art of the characters.

The controls were a bit awkward. The constant extra unnecessary enter hit every turn to roll dice was kinda pointless. There also was a bit of a delay before it registered that enter press on the start of the turn which was kinda pointless. No need to repeat to player what to do at that point anymore when it's already dozens of rounds in. Mouse controls would have probably been the best option here in my opinion.

Allowing a single re-roll and maybe rolling both the dice at once (there were two anyway) would give a bit more chance for strategy. Could even let the player choose which to use for deploy and which for movement.

It was kinda easy as the opponent didn't seem too sharp. Even getting a single small fry next to the king was often worth several hit points as they didn't seem bothered by it at all and only randomly spawned something next to it for a kill. They always also spawned everything right next to their king even though doing it on the other side gives you much shorter path for attack. Easily beat it on my first try not knowing the mechanics or any thing at the start and I was even rolling like garbage all the time, mainly 1s and 2s.

If going for a single player experience, I'd do more of a build up with smaller boards and quicker rounds at start. That'd also ease the mechanics in quicker without that much of a commitment. Could then even play around with asymmetric board shapes and maybe having powerups or something on the board to spice it up even more and keep it from getting repetitive.

Anyways, good job! 👍🎉

That was a very solid entry and very funny game! And I can say this is the best game I have played in this LDJam! At start I was not thinking about that would be a 3d scene, and I think the 3d scene makes the unique mood. Burning candles and dice makes this more like you are playing this Bugtallion in a bar or something.

The gameplay was awesome. The dice makes your strategy more random and fun, and you can upgrade your bug at most 2 times. Different bugs have different attack method. The basic one can attack enemies from adjective adjacent(not diagonal), advanced one can attack enemies from adjacent only diagonal, and the max rank could attack enemies from both the basic one and the advanced one. That makes the strategy more varies.

Win a game is very easy because the AI was not smart enough, but as a gamejam game that is good enough!

Thanks for the hard work!

alineo 2024-10-09 16:35

Really fun game ! The enemy was luckier than me with rolls, but i was smarter than him so I won haha. I could very well see it become a full game with less randomness and a smarter AI, well done

bzoo345 2024-10-09 20:47

Very interesting concept! strategy is not my strong point, so the opponent bested me! but I really enjoyed the graphics. gives it a very nice vibe

1cloud 2024-10-09 20:49

bro, this game is brilliant

robin-schmitz 2024-10-09 20:51

Wow, so cool!

I felt like playing a spin of of the "Inscryption" game. Such a beautiful entry. The mood was fantastic, the randomnes but you can control how to deal with it aspect is a lot of fun. I could totally see this being a bigger game with some items to manipulate dice throws. Very impressive to finish a game like this during a jam.

Well done! :)

spacecadet 2024-10-09 20:51

Fresh idea for the game. I really like the overall feel and aesthetics of your game. I am a bit confused if I was supposed to be able to distribute the movement points with my troops as the enemy seemed to be doing. I didn't find that option.

tgnics 2024-10-09 20:51

Wow, this game is a banger! Love the mechanic, and I feel like it could even be a multiplayer or a simple physical boardgame! Loved it, and for now it is my favorite game in this jam. Amazing job!

diomont 2024-10-09 20:52

What an amazing game concept, this could definitely be a real tabletop game! A multiplayer version of this would be fantastic, or perhaps a single player campaign with roguelike elements. Would love to see an expanded version of this in the future.

pierre-marie 2024-10-09 20:56

Oooh, one of the best concepts I've seen so far! Well done!

alexis-roca 2024-10-09 21:00

Wow impressive ! The graphics deserve to be more coherent between each other, if I had to choose, I loved the creatures style ! Good job 🔥

thom13made 2024-10-09 21:09

this game is crazy good. loved it. spent a good time with it. really well polished. incredyble work in just 3 days. Wow, congrats. really fun too! thanks you for your work. Super good music too, the mood was on point!

winter2277 2024-10-09 21:15

Wow amazing! I really got hooked by this game. It's just really fun. The mechanics seemed complicated at first from the guide but it became extremely obvious from just playing. The table top 2D game in 3D environment is a really cool aesthetic. The animations were slick and the sounds were good. Great job!

neoawesomeon 2024-10-09 21:38

This was a good time! A simple but well made concept that became something pretty fun by the time I figured it out. I'd love to have a 2 player option at some point, as this looks like the kind of simple fun game you can hop on with a buddy and play for a while. I do wish the AI was smarter, as there isn't much replay value right now due to its low intelligence. Great stuff! Another favorite of the jam.

avi 2024-10-09 22:44

Such a clever game!! I could totally see this also as a cool board game for 2 people!

The AI logic must have been very interesting!!

ronn-fever 2024-10-10 05:58

Great vibe, great aesthetics. Fun, simple premise that you can easily understand with enough strategy in movement to make it fun. I think the randomness involved with rolling can make some impossible to lose games, but with a little balance in the rules for deployment this game would be quite addicting!

loveschach 2024-10-10 06:12

This game is a ton of fun! I was initially fairly overwhelmed because the enemy rolled high at the beginning, but I fought back and overwhelmed them.

My one criticism is they weren't very good at deciding to defend, they mostly played aggressively even though I was in their base.

Would love a more polished version of this or a PvP version.

fusionnist 2024-10-10 14:36

Hi! Downloading the .exe says I am missing the .pck file... Loved this! Although the game is very easy, it feels so complete, plays nice and is very pretty - so if you ever felt like doing more with this, I'd definitely stick around! Congrats!

slippers 2024-10-10 15:20

This is awesome. It's a really complete experience, and thouroughly enjoyable.

I can see a few comments from people about unluckly dice, I have no idea whether it's truly random or not, but most games cheat with dice and 'random rolls' because humans usually feel hard done by on rolls that are truly random.

Truly great entry, I love the strategy element, the art is great, but possibly is mismatched in places? I feel like the font on the Main menu and then the start button clash for example, but I'm really having to clutch at straws because there's really nothing about the game I didn't like!

Amazing, thanks.

david-huculak 2024-10-10 17:51

fun game! the AI made some quite bad decisions so it was easy to cheese in my playthrough but it was a cool concept!

goodwincek 2024-10-10 18:07

@fusionnist thank you for that download report! I fixed the upload now the .zip will have the correct files all there. Thank you for playing, and glad you enjoyed :)

Also thanks to everyone for the amazing feedback and suggestions so far! A lot of great feedback that helps us see where we need to improve, and which aspects are working. We're really thrilled that so many of you enjoyed the concept! We've already been brainstorming and planning how we might expand this into a full feature game one day.

loig 2024-10-10 19:57

Good game idea, I liked it. However, the AI is really bad at this game, it does not even try to defend its king. I think playing against another human would be much more interesting.

I would have liked to be able to rotate the dice pattern on the board to place new guys (useful for 2 and 3).

Also, I think it would have been more natural to control with the mouse (as you are using physics, we could even throw the die by ourselves).

fabula-rasa 2024-10-10 21:32

Pretty fun strategy! Visuals are very nice, I especially like the light work. Music was also nice and fitting. Everything seem quite well-polished!

I'm not sure what I think about the randomness element the dice introduce. I imagine that with a streak of unlucky rolls, you can feel like there is no skill you can apply that would save you. That's potentially bad. But on the other hand, all the rounds I played were rather on an easy side and I never had a "streak of ones" - so maybe you cheat a little there

AI could use some more brains , as it is rather easy to defeat it. But overall, it's a really impressive jam game! Great job!

obidiix-minusinfinity 2024-10-10 21:39

Incredible game, I had a lot of fun playing it and felt very well polished, it may sound weird, but I don't have a single complain about the game

hilary-fischer 2024-10-10 22:42

This was a really fun game! It seemed like alot of gameplay for a ludum dare game which I especially liked. Also, I liked the story/mood/setting you used with the drawings at the beginning, music, etc. - so fun! Something to indicate whether the bug was selected in the movement phase would have been helpful. Great job!

martenscedric 2024-10-11 02:35

This was a great game! The main issue is that AI was quite dumb, but the rest was great!

sharky3188 2024-10-11 03:53

Really solid game, i wasn't sure what to expect when i started playing, but i quickly found my self invested in the match. The gameplay is very simple, yet the upgrading and positing on units really makes you consider your best moves, i love how each dice roll really changes up how to consider your next move. I would have liked some potential safety nets for bad rolls (like a chance to re-roll but lose a unit or something), but i could picture that being fleshed out more down the line. I could very easily see this being expanded upon. The audio was great really fit the theme and kept me wanting to play more. Great entry!

adrien-tremblay 2024-10-13 15:52

Fun and chill game! My only complaint was there is no indication of when you deselect a bug for movement

wildcodeplay 2024-10-18 08:17

I see we are not the only ones who come up with new and unique way to dice mechanic. :). Thanks also for your rating. The style and sound somehow reminded me of the Gwent card game from the Witcher III :). 2024-10-18 10_14_49-Arc.png

weird-orb 2024-10-21 11:16

I had SO much fun with this! The sound and visuals were really engaging and I really enjoyed building my army and taking down the other side \\(^_^)/ Would love to see what this could become with more polish, maybe a smarter enemy - I was able to take out 6hp by parking right next to the queen without the other side targeting me at all. But for jam game, no complaints!
