I played the game, but I also couldn't break the trees. I pressed, held and mashed e to break them but nothing happened. I really like the graphics and the idea is good too. I would happily come back if I could break the trees.
It took me a little moment to understand how to break the stuff, I was spamming the key instead of letting it do its thing. To others who had the same issue, once you press E just let the animation play until the thing is broken. The art is top notch and I liked playing in that little space and keep my fire alive. The music loop was fitting with the overall feel of the game and not too distracting. Good job on the weather effects, too!
@jcmonkey Thanks! There was an interaction bug but it's fixed now so I hope you can enjoy the game :)
@badoomtch Thanks! There was a bug with the interaction which I've fixed. It should work now!
This game is so cute! It looks very polished, and the music is nice and relaxing while my little guy runs around panicked trying to keep the fire going. I love it!
It's an impressive game for such a short time. I played this last night, so maybe 48 hours?
really warm and fuzzy 3D art. this game is ON. FIRE.
- really good graphics - gameplay tick down is maybe a bit fast - it seems to go down when not raining faster then the recovery from breaking down trees - SFX/music all work well with the game
Nice character you got here, I could see him freezing in ice cube in the end to finish the game. Fun, nice looking, good job :)
The bug so cute and the game is so polished  Controls felt little bit weird, but made running around feel like watching a stop motion animation, giving the visuals some extra fun twist.
Needed to come back one more time with one more not that obvious fact: the code is an art as well.
@onnofal Aw thank you! To be honest, I didn't expect anybody to check out my code!
I'm amazed at how much you packed in during a 48-hour competition! The graphics are fantastic and the gameplay is subtly deep. The first time I ran out of wood made me realize that you have to carefully manage which trees you cut down. A great idea and a great execution!
So much polish! Everything felt very cohesive. I thought the throw seemed a little unpredictable, especially if it was from far away. But overall great entry!
Really like the art style, reminded me of that new Tunic game. Aiming to throw can be a bit of a pain at times but otherwise smooth gameplay that's quick and simple to pick up. Great job.
Great, great graphics. The bug is sooo cute! I really liked this little game!
I love how straightforward the aesthetics are! It's all easily readable.
I was wondering what the point of the rocks were at first, and why you could break them down. It was then Zeus showed himself and it made a bit more sense. Do the number of rocks ultimately affect how many trees grow?
On an entirely unrelated note, the beetle makes me think of It Takes Two :')
This game looks so cute, I love the style! The 3D assets, music and UI blend in so well together! Additionally, that is the cutest beetle I've ever seen in a game, also love how stylish the fire looks!
The gameplay is very simple and easy to understand, I had so much fun running around with little logs on my back. I've also noticed how the stones increase difficulty by both hindering your movement and decreasing the space for trees to spawn, very good!
All in all, everything is super polished, you did an amazing job for your first game jam!
You did a great job! The art of your game is one of the most well polished i found in this jam! the the controls are solid! The only thing i would change is the mapping of the interact button. i rather prefer J (right hand), than E (left hand). I found less clumsy to use one hand to control the beetle and the other to interact...
Nice Work!
Hey, for a first game jam that's quite amazing. The art is simple but very effective, same for the gameplay. It lack a bit of more interactions but it's already a good basis! Keep going, if it's your first jam, your next ones will be amazing!
@jcg Thanks! In a way they do, because rocks prevent new trees from growing in the area.
@glayson Thanks! I agree, I could definitely do with going over the input.
Wow, what a charming little game! Love the visuals and the funky music! Controls work really well and gameplay feels nice and fresh!
You should definitely do this again. Huge *thumps up* for your first submission!
Really cute game ! I like the graphics, the chill music, and the fact that a game over is gentle (no changing screen, you have time to process the game over). Overall a very nice and chill game ! Also small advice, if you can also make the Q key go left and Z key go up (as well as the W and A of course, you'll support both azerty and qwerty keyboard, allowing users to not change their layout before playing ;)
@dodormeur Thanks for the feedback, maybe I should consider different layouts. The arrow keys also work, but I completely forgot to add it on the UI!
I liked this a lot! I loved the models and they really inspire me to try to make a 3d game sometime as well. The low-poly style is something I would love to be able to do :) The little bug and the trees are so cute! :D
The gameplay was very intuitive and surprisingly fun! I liked the idea of the rocks being in the way, but in the end they were not much of a problem for me I must say. Often I could just walk around them, and by the time many of them had gathered I had already almost lost anyway :) I don't think this is a real problem though, just an observation. On the mechanics side I feel like throwing a stack of logs had the same effect as throwing just a single log into the fire? Maybe this is just my imagination? I kind of expected the healthbar to shoot up once I threw in a big stack of logs, but this did not really happen
The music was a little repetitive, but not very annoying, so I think it is fine. It is definitely better than any music I ever made, so just the fact that there is music impresses me XD
Amazing job with this! I saw this was your first game jam, so that makes it even more impressive! Also, welcome to the hobby :) I started about a year and a half ago (after thinking about doing one for way too long) and I must say it was the best decision ever! They are just so much fun! I hope you will have the same amount of fun as I have had :D
Really liked the atmosphere of this game! Love the style and the weather effects look great. The game is short and to the point as well. Also really liked the throwing mechanic, definitely made it more tactical. Overal really enjoyed this game!
it is a perfect game finished and very nice graphics and atmosphere
This is really cute a great take on the theme! Would have really loved to see some more animations, but the art style on its own works great. I initially thought if I let trees grow they would eventually grow leaves and work as an umbrella for the fire (I found out that wasn't the case), but could be an interesting mechanic if you were to expand on this!
Really cute and polished game. I liked the rain mechanic and that you can break the stones. Gives you a little something to strategize. Also, i like that you can continue playing after the fire is out. So the end is chill and not a Game Over screen in your face. Really good submission to the compo.
Fantastic entry! Everything from graphics to audio and gameplay is great!
It's really cute and looks good and polished, i wish cutting the trees was a little faster tho. Good job!
I agree with all the comments. Your game is absolutely cute designed and fun to play. I'd love to play more levels :) It's astonishing you put so much love in details (like animations). Awesome submission!
More lovely game! You found time for everything, even quality presentation. As a first ever jam and you blow most competition away, hope to see more from you. And I don't even like bugs
@wuppos Thanks for such a detailed response! Each log adds a flat amount of life to the fire, maybe the feedback is lacking there. I only figured out how to use BeepBox days before the compo, so I'm just glad the music isn't *too* annoying! There's a reason I added a mute button, just in case haha. Looking forward to more jams now!
Lasted for almost 3 minutes
Pros:
- Adorable main character - Great minimalistic visual on isometric scene - Good game feel, so the gameplay itself - Clear and responsive controls - Nice take on the theme - Music in Compo is always a +
Cons:
- I believe leaving a tree or stone away and coming back to it resets it's ATK (actions-to-kill) counter. Would be nice if each individual object had them, but I believe that was to prevent insta bashing (focus out and in on the object to rapidly take it down)
Solid, properly scoped entry and excellent job!
I believe you have only provided the actual `source code` instead of the entire project to check it out. As per compo rules, it would be nice to see all of it (placement, scenes, graphical materials etc) and not just script codes.
Simplicity at its finest! A great combo of UI, music, art and game design. A great first game jam entry!
I got two ideas for your feature updates:
* Add outline highlighting when you can chop a tree or throw the trees into the fire. * You could consider adding mouse support for the direction. Maybe the control would be feel easier.
