Excellent game! Beautiful and interesting narrative.

adrien-dittrick 2021-04-27 19:13

Never played a mystery game where I spent so little time reading the dialog, good job! Funny words.

squidly 2021-04-28 05:58

I would literally pay money for this.

Like, as it is.

First off, your presentation is phenomenal. From cutscenes to the gorgeous art style.

Second off, your writing is hilarious and well done. Loved the IT Crowd reference, but just the entire concept of things is just REALLY well written.

Third off, your music is atmospheric and sets the tone for a great detective setup.

Fourth off, your gameplay is actually really clever and the whole theme is set up perfectly.

5s across the board. I have nothing else to say except... like, do more. This would be a phenomenal full game.

tipyx 2021-04-28 08:43

As I said during my stream, good job to all of you, it's a pretty good entry. I liked how you turn the jam time limit as a constraint to your artistic direction :).

chunkish-campino 2021-04-28 17:00

Very nice stylistic decisions! Nicely done man!

usenrame 2021-04-28 17:02

Game style is crazy stylish! <3 <3 <3 Sounds are great!

cubanfrog 2021-04-28 17:06

Wow, this was an excellent game with very strong visuals and good sound design. I really liked the character design s of the game. The puzzles were quite simple after I got the general gist of the game, but the presentation was more than enough for a jam game.

frompdx 2021-04-28 17:11

By far one of the best I have played in this jam. Nice work! The only thing that I struggled with is that there isn't a lot of feedback when "click to continue..." appears. I found myself clicking and clicking and not really sure if it worked because it would take a while to transition scenes.

wilhelmstein 2021-04-28 17:13

Great entry! My only suggestion would be the addition of being able to lose.

notpresident35 2021-04-28 17:14

Love the style! It feels like it belongs in a comic, which really helps sell the story.

The mechanics do get a bit repetitive, since there's no variety beyond simple fetch quests, but I really like the idea of collecting bits of evidence to get secret keywords. Some simple puzzles (IE if there were some pieces of evidence that had been shredded and you have to get all of the pieces, or if there were some pieces that were partially burned so you have to fill in missing letters, or even some pieces that were so tiny you needed a magnifying glass to read them) would add a lot of flavor to the game.

For a Ludum Dare entry, the whole experience is really impressive! Great work!

cakestorm 2021-04-28 17:19

Brilliant game - I loved it! It's such a simple idea, collecting **_clues_** and finding the right person, but it works so well here! I really liked how you had to bring it all together at the end, and test your memory on the keywords - really added some **_depth_** to the game. The story was a really nice addition too, and it helped keep me going throughout. I loved all the nonsensical **_humour_** of it all. I would say though that the game got a bit tedious at points - the characters who delayed you didn't really add much to the game, and just wasted your time without adding any **_challenge_**. I don't usually like hard memory games either, but I still found this one too easy - some more difficulty in guessing the correct **_sentences_** would've been nice.

Artstyle-wise, I found it wonderful. The **_environments_** were all very attractive and the low-poly style of it worked very well. The cutouts were a creative way to show characters, and the designs on them - especially the **_fish people_** - were all very well done. The only real issue I had with it is that throughout the game I was always dressed as a waiter, which was a little strange on a **_submarine_**. The music was very nice, as were the **_sound effects_** - it was only a minor thing, but the little footstep sounds were a good **_idea_** to add. The ambient background noises also helped to make the game feel more alive, so it was nice to hear those.

It was a great detective game with a lot of charm and personality to it, and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing - very well done on this one!

I liked the art style, one of the more polished games I've played so far.

fractal 2021-04-28 20:51

Wow, this was amazing, the gameplay was especially nice and how a complex story is intertwined with the relatively simple idea of remembering words. Very well done!

ec2151 2021-04-29 06:26

I want to give specific props to your sound guy for realizing the game so well. It's filled with great incidental sound work that really helps sell the game despite the quick deadline and short turnaround. Trust me, I know =) The use of cutouts is cute and a smart choice to save time on animating.

I think one thing to consider is that "dullards wasting your time" doesn't have any real penalty. I would have thought a time limit or something would come into play that would create more fail states; however it can be expected that you can't do everything you want for a gamejam.

Overall this was enjoyable, so kudos to all.

lesinvisible 2021-04-29 17:08

Fantastic game, everything here feels solid. It's amazing how you managed to make such COMPLETE game in game JAM.

kenforest 2021-04-29 18:15

Wow very unusual and cool graphic style, i like it. Good work

raphiell 2021-04-30 01:54

Amazing entry! It's great to see a fellow corkboard game! I found myself sliding around on the last level when I wasn't moving. Great art, music, and controls. Great little experience, well done!

ramble-house-games 2021-04-30 07:35

I laughed out loud more than once playing this game. The paper doll animation alone is enough to make the game fun. The clue mechanic is easy enough to keep the game casual, but demands enough attention to keep the game engaging. The story is bonkers in the best way, and I am looking forward to my next opportunity to call some one a “Wandering Dullard”. Thanks so much for bringing this by my stream. madbarron 2021-04-30 18:49

@raphiell Thanks for the review and the bug report! I fixed it so you no longer slip around the third level or down ramps

ellipsis 2021-05-01 05:17

5 stars this is a simply amazing game! Did you really make it in 3 days? Everything from the goofy walking animation to the catchy music to the snappy, gut-busting dialog was a home run. Don't stop making games!

gamedevtraum 2021-05-01 14:52

Hi! Thanks for commenting on my game! Excelent job with Deep Cover guys!! It was an amazing experience, all aspects of the game were very polished, mechanics, graphics, music and story, all fit perfectly together. Congratulations for such a great game :D

borderdestroyer 2021-05-01 20:13

This game was super amazing! I absolutely loved the art style of it and was left wanting more at the ending! This has by far been one of the better games I have seen on here so far, good job all in all!

c4scar 2021-05-02 03:05

The art style was really cool and the story was interesting. I liked how smooth the character movement was. The mechanic of keywords worked really well and made you feel somewhat like an actual detective. Cool to see it pulled off. Great game.

juanj7 2021-05-02 16:24

Wow! This is excellent, I really liked everything about it, from those nice cardboard animations to the music acompaigning the scenes. I also found the evidence mechanic very innovative and surely something to build upon. Great job, team!

paulhocker 2021-05-03 04:19

really dig this style. i had a lot of fun exploring and finding clues. very nice job. thanks for making this gamne.

nsadie 2021-05-06 20:21

Such a cool game! I loved the graphics, the mood and the story. I would love to play a longer version of something like this with some more interaction with the environment and some puzzles!

oco 2021-05-06 20:32

Such a delightful game, it was easy to get the hang of gameplay and controls. The different environments with their respective music and lighting worked well to set the mood of the scene, putting me directly into the character and the story!

The evidence and clue system takes some thinking but remains easy enough to follow. Having every piece of evidence serving a purpose in moving the plot along makes the story satisfying. Dry humor in the dialogue was enjoyable too. Thank you for the experience!

glaikunt 2021-05-07 09:32

The style seems really unique. I enjoyed playing through the puzzle, lots of things you could add to this idea. Really enjoyed it great job!

sephy 2021-05-12 19:14

Wow! Fantastic entry as many others have pointed out. Only "criticism" I can think of it that I didn't find it very clear what happened if you bumped into one of the dullards. There was no consequence other than a short wait?

oddballdave 2021-05-13 09:39

Wow! You all put a lot of work into this. Great job. I love the cut out style. Artwork was great. Audio was great. Plot was fun and engaging. I noticed a couple of areas that could have done with a bit of extra work but more than forgivable given the final entry. And you got me lol at the IT Crowd reference so well done for that. This is probably my favourite entry I've played so far.

Good stuff :8ball:

gamescodedogs 2021-05-13 14:57

Nice, funny and stylish game :) There was a little lack of opportunity to lose. But overall - great thing!

bastienre4 2021-05-14 15:57

Wow, the aesthetics is amazing! Good entry, congrats!

chtimy 2021-05-14 16:30

The game is funny in narration, is original by gameplay and the graphics are also original as a board game. I like it! The end is funny ^^ Thank you for your game! 5/5

krazune 2021-05-14 16:38

Very nice game, loved the artistic style and word mechanics. I think this could easily turn into a full fledged game.

arefnue 2021-05-17 18:11

Nice art!

fupi 2021-05-17 19:57

Here are the notes I took while playing: - Beautiful graphics, music, the whole mood is perfect! - Really quick tutorial! - Gathering evidence is pretty satisfying! And genius way of showing them! - Didn't expect there to be another level! Impressive! - The guy is still dressed like a waiter which is a bit silly :p - JDSAKJDASKJADSJ

Just genius! Hilarious! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really liked this, best game so far. Congrats to all the team. You clearly had a defined vision from the start and executed it flawlessly, fricking, well done!

madorly 2021-05-18 01:48

What a nice game, I loved it so much! The story was really interesting, the gameplay was nice and fun, and those graphics! I loved them! It reminded me of a table game.

Just a little thing, I found it a bit strange that the main character was a waiter in all the game, but oeverall it was a really nice game. Good job on the team!

ETA: the tutorial was really effective and simple, good job!
